Brigorras The Journey Into Arden’s Cave is a middle grade fantasy adventure about four children introduced to a world of magic, danger, and adventure.
Phuelicy’s life has always been guided by one helping her mentor, Arthena, free her father and the people trapped within Arden. Eli and Haley, orphans of Romani, never imagined there was anything unusual about them until their friend is accused of magic and they are pulled into a world they were taught to fear.
Strange visions, shared dreams, and the unexpected friendship of a shapeshifter draw them deeper into the mystery of who they truly are. As their paths intertwine, the four are thrust into a dangerous journey leading to Arden’s Cave, where legend says a powerful bloodline holds the key to unlocking an ancient gateway.
But discovery brings betrayal, sacrifice, and the risk of setting free far more than they ever expected.
I had the pleasure of reading this book before publication, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I quickly became invested in the characters and their journeys. One of the book’s greatest strengths is how distinct the characters feel, making then easy to connect with and root for. As someone who loved reading as a young girl, it would have meant so much to see characters who looked and felt like me represented in a story like this. The pacing kept me engaged and eager to keep turning the pages, and I was especially intrigued by the kingdom’s history and the mystery surrounding the banned magic. Overall, it’s an engaging read with compelling characters, an interesting plot, and a world that left me excited to see what happens next. Can’t wait for book 2 😁
This is possibly the most refreshing book I've read in a while. This is an amazing adventure in the discovery of magic for kids. It features strong and courageous black children who have found they are druids, witches, and shifters. The beauty in this story is one of mistrust, discovery, trust, and ultimately a betrayal that punches you right in the gut. I love how the children are facing some really difficult things, but they continue to push forward, which is all any of us can really do. I think if you have a reader between the ages of 8 and 14, they would really enjoy this read! It was a very fun journey, and I hope the author will keep up the series!
Have you ever read a book and immediately thought, "Yep, I'm going to read every single thing this author writes"? That's exactly how I felt after finishing Brigorras Light
The world building was absolutely incredible. It was detailed, immersive, and magical. I quickly became invested in Phuelicy's journey and her determination to free her father after spending her entire life preparing for that moment. So when Arthena's true motives started coming to light? I was SHOCKED. I genuinely believed she was helping Phuelicy, which made the betrayal hit so much harder. This was such a fun and magical adventure filled with twists, mysteries, and unforgettable characters. The ending left me desperately wanting more, and I cannot wait to pick up the next book to see what happens next
Brigorras Light by Stephanie Callwood is an absolute masterpiece of middle-grade fantasy that kept me hooked from start to finish. With its unrelenting twists, turns, and bursts of magical chaos, this novel is an exhilarating ride through a world where hope and danger collide in the most spectacular ways.
What truly sets this story apart is its rich, multi-layered characters. Each of the four protagonists—Phuelicy, Eli, Haley, and Syrus—are like intricate keys, each with their own unique storylines that weave seamlessly into the larger narrative. Callwood masterfully details how their individual journeys shape and reshape the unfolding chaos around them, making each character’s growth feel deeply authentic and compelling. Some are more daring, others more cautious, but all are driven by a fierce desire to survive, protect, and uncover the truth about their origins.
The world-building is lush and immersive, drawing readers into a universe filled with magic, danger, and ancient legends. The mystery surrounding Arden’s Cave and the legendary bloodline adds an extra layer of intrigue, kept me guessing right up until the jaw-dropping climax. The author’s skillful pacing ensures that the suspense never wanes, with each revelation more shocking than the last.
I especially appreciated how Callwood handles themes of friendship, sacrifice, and trust. The shared visions and dreams create a haunting sense of connection among the characters, emphasizing that their fates are intertwined in ways they never could have imagined. The story’s balance of action, emotion, and magic makes it a perfect read for middle-grade readers—and for anyone who loves a good adventure with heartfelt moments.
In summary, Brigorras Light is a beautifully crafted tale of hope amidst chaos, with characters that will stay with you long after the final page. Stephanie Callwood has truly created a captivating world brimming with magic and mystery. I highly recommend it to fans of fantasy adventure and young heroes stepping into their power.
This was a very entertaining and charming book that I read with my 11-year-old. We both loved the characters’ backstories. Haley and Phuelicy were two memorable characters who seemed to share similarities. Both characters were strong-willed and adventurous. Haley was always venturing off and getting into trouble, whereas Phuelicy seemed to do so unintentionally. Both of their behaviors led to some very suspenseful and shocking moments as the story unfolded.
Also, the journey to Arden’s cave was very treacherous as the main characters encountered some surprising enemies, leading to some pivotal moments and self-discoveries. Some learned that they were the key to bringing a united front, whereas others learned they were easily misled down the wrong path.
Overall, I think readers, young and old, will both enjoy this book. It is also a coming-of-age story about finding oneself and learning to be who you are instead of hiding behind closed doors. As for older audiences, it teaches us that sometimes we must let our children stand on their own feet, even if they make some mistakes along the way.
This is a shock to me, as I usually struggle with YA. But the author is such a great storyteller that I have been locked in since the prologue. The magic system is easy to understand; the stakes are high and the propensity for BETRAYAL is next level!!!
The story is told in multi POV so you get a good sense of the characters who learn about their history and the extent of their abilities throughout the novella. It was interesting watching them get to know and begin to trust each other, even though the reader knows something is brewing. I can’t wait to see where this story goes. There is a lot of emotional weight that we have yet to get through and I feel like we have barely scratched the surface. And I mean that in the BESTWAY possible !
An imaginative adventure filled with mystery, courage, and discovery! I loved following the journey into Arden's Cave and the way the story encourages young readers to be brave, believe in themselves, and keep going even when the path ahead is uncertain.
