It started out really promising. I was entertained through the first half because I was genuinely curious where the story was going, you get the commentary around influencer culture, perfectionism, authenticity, and the pressure to curate a perfect life and that was interesting.

Then the story took a turn and completely lost me. It wasn’t hard to follow, I just stopped buying the logic of what was happening, and once that happened my interest dropped across the board. The romance was secondary and didn’t add much, and the ending still didn’t land for me.

There were ideas here that I liked, but the execution just didn’t come together in a way that worked for me.

I’d recommend this to readers who enjoy contemporary stories with social-media commentary, magical realism, and romance, especially if you’re more willing to go with the premise than I was.

Interesting concept, mediocre execution. I think this is like Barbie the movie when she suddenly wake up and find herself in a not-so real life (I haven't seen the movie btw). I could never have pushed through it if not for the audiobook as Samantha Brentmoore is one of my favorite female narrators.

I’m usually not a fan of Groundhog Day type books. I think Iman Hariri-Kia did a great job at creating a lighthearted environment for romance. There were a few twists along the way too. Laia Grace’s influencer posts were way over the top and very cringey.

This was such a treat!! I’ve really enjoyed Iman’s previous work and if you’ve enjoyed her other writing you’ll absolutely love this!

I went into this book completely blind which I think made my experience even better! At the beginning when Laia started going through her day in the life I was like “umm what am I reading?” But by the end I was hooked!!! I couldn’t put it down I really read it in one sitting. I loved the whole “stuck in the algorithm” concept I thought it was such a fun take on the Groundhog Day trope.

I really enjoyed Noah and Laia’s relationship and how they both aren’t perfect people but as their relationship progresses they help make each other better. They’re definitely a slow burn, but really there’s so much going on in this book you don’t even mind.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I reminded me a little bit of Just Watch Me by Lior Torenberg which I read and loved last year in the kind of the how being chronically online can affect you and the twist. Ahh it’s just so good I will definitely be recommending this and purchasing a physical copy once it’s released!!

Such a treat to get to read one of my most anticipated books months before it is published!
As I already had preordered this book, I knew I would really like this book. And while I have some thoughts, I really did enjoy this book!

Question though: why does the FMC have long luscious hair on the cover when she is described to have a stick-straight bob? (The difference for the MMC is explained.)

Love a good time travel / time loop story and this one started off especially mysterious and slightly chilling. Also, the repetition of the various “chapter one” captions was a cute Easter egg!
Things took a while – perhaps too long – to take off, but when the story finally landed on Big Topics such as identity, moving on, family obligations, cultural background, evolving, and more, the FMC really started to shine.

Unfortunately, the story did not really land for me and things were too surface-level. Yes, slightly ironic for me to write this in relation to this book, but I just wished things were more solid.

The various pop culture nods were too cute (stick-and-peel tiles DIY mention and the reference to adding too much vignette to your photos had me howling), but shame on her for not knowing anything about Groundhog Day!
The references to the author’s other books were adorable.

I was neutral about the FMC and MMC and their relationship, though I did like what the universe had in store for them.
I was rooting more for Laia’s (also lurved @Laiability as a screen name!) relationship with her family and with her girlfriends.

All in all, good premise, fab magical realism, but left me wanting more.
A solid 3.5 stars rounded down.

DNF at 31%. The premise had promise. I was intrigued when I figured out what was going on in the beginning, and thought it was a unique way to go about this Groundhog Day type of story. Sadly, this just wasn’t for me.

I understand the FMC is in a time loop and reliving days over and over, but there are ways to do that without being so repetitive - I’ve read other books that have been successful doing this. It was just so repetitive with minuscule changes, that I unconsciously started skimming the pages.

The FMC is kind of a robot. And - again - I understand this is part of the plot and I suspect there to be a lot of growth throughout the novel. But 30% in and there just wasn’t enough growth by that point to keep me interested. Her dialogue and thoughts constantly rambled over things that just didn’t add to the story at all.

This definitely had potential but I just didn’t like the execution. And if I’m over a quarter of the way through the book and just don’t care at all about the character I’m reading about… well that’s an easy way for me to DNF, unfortunately.

Groundhog Day Rom Com + Influencer FMC/Depression Rep MMC + Who Saves Who? + Finding True Self

This book follows lifestyle influencer, Laia Grace, who is repeating the “perfect day” every day. From the moment she wakes up she puts on a mask and lives her life as an inspirational young adult living in New York City, romanticizing life. Her timeline starts to go awry and she meets Noah who is also stuck in this repeating cycle. They embark on a mission to break out of the algorithm cycle and feelings develop along the way.

I went into this book blind and was shocked when I found out what triggered Laia to get stuck in the timeline. I love how the story developed and how it was about Laia finding and loving her true self. This book touched on several important topics such as 2nd generational pressures, the assimilation of western beauty standards, the constant rat race we find ourselves in to get a good paying job to afford life, and the fear of showing our true identity and facing rejection.

I had high hopes going into this book after reading the authors previous work, Female Fantasy (loved it), and I enjoyed this one so much.

These kind of same day, day after day, stories are always hit or miss for me. Sometimes they work, and other times I just can’t fully buy into it.

Once in a Timeline follows Laia, an influencer who finds herself stuck reliving her idea of the perfect day. At first she just goes along with it, but then she meets Noah and suddenly things start going a little differently. His presence makes her start questioning whether her life is actually as perfect as she thought it was.

I thought the story was… fine. There were some twists and turns that kept things moving, but I never felt that excited. I just never found myself getting super emotionally invested in the story or the characters.

What I did really like was the commentary on being chronically online and constantly curating your life. The whole idea of creating this “perfect” version of yourself and then starting to believe that’s what your life is supposed to look like was probably my favorite part of the book.

Overall, this was an okay read for me. I liked the premise and the message behind it, but I just wanted a little more from the story.

This book was so much fun and exactly what I needed! This book is Groundhogs Day meets Clueless but instead of Bill Murray we get Laia, a social influencer stuck in the algorithm reliving her perfect day in the life on repeat. She gets her meet cute with Noah and they work together to try to break free. This book hooked me from the opening scene when Laia is talking about putting whale seamen on her face as part of her beauty routine!

"Laia Laia pants on fire" as Noah teases her and calls her out on her influencer act. They are adorable and work together to overcome their obstacles, accept themselves for who they are and find peace. My husband and I were hanging lights at the top peaks of our house and I needed to switch from the high stress romantasy I was listening to and this was perfect. It was so fun and easy to sink into.

Samantha Brentmoor narrates this in single narration and she is so talented. She draws you in and is able to create a believable male voice with seeming ease (I'm sure it's harder than it looks!). I was really impressed when she would jump into her influencer voice while doing the voice overs for Laia's day in the life video. It was so believable.

Read this book if you love a romcom with a time loop, a sprinkle of magical realism, and a hard look at learning how to accept yourself, even the parts you try to hide from the world.

Friends, I’ve been loving reading books that make me feel seen and represented, and this book did just that! As a first-generation Syrian American, I just knew I’d connect with the author of this book, Iman Hariri-Kia, who’s a first-generation Iranian American.

This was a fun, witty, hilarious, and touching rom-com where our FMC, Laia Grace (a social media influencer), gets stuck in a time loop and needs to learn to love herself and grow to get out of this nightmare. This is an own-voices book, so our FMC is also Iranian American. I absolutely adored the romance with the MMC, but what I loved most was the cultural references and hardships that our FMC discussed. She talks about how people look at her differently for being Iranian (SWANA) and how inherited generational trauma is embedded in you even though you weren’t born in the homeland of your ancestors. There were so many times when I laughed and cried because of how much her experience hit close to home. This really was a story about growth, relationships, and loving/finding yourself, especially as a child of immigrants.

The romance between Laia Grace and Noah was wonderful. Noah also had a lot to learn of his own. The two of them together brought about growth on both ends.

Do yourself a favor and go pre-order this book (preferably from an indie bookstore). Out October 13, 2026.

I really enjoyed this book! I don’t think I’ve ever read a Groundhog Day-style story centered around an influencer before, so the premise immediately hooked me. I’m also a huge fan of magical realism, so as soon as I heard about this release, I knew I had to pick it up.

One of my favorite parts was how the story kept returning to Chapter One in the beginning. It was such a fun and creative way to make the reader feel stuck in the same loop as the main character, and I thought it worked really well.

The pacing was definitely slow at first, and it took a while for the story to really get going. Once it did, though, it tackled some great themes like identity, family expectations, personal growth, learning to move forward, and figuring out who you are beyond what everyone else expects of you.

My biggest issue was that I wanted more. The story introduced so many interesting ideas, but I felt like it only skimmed the surface of them. I kept waiting for those emotional moments and themes to be explored more deeply, and I think that extra depth would’ve made the story even more impactful.

Overall, this was such a unique premise with magical realism—two things I absolutely love. While I enjoyed the journey, I walked away wishing the book had dug a little deeper into its characters and themes. Even so, it’s an entertaining and thought-provoking read that I’m glad I picked up.

First of all, this book is so fucking sharp and FUNNY!!!!!!! And it needs to be said!!!!

Truly such a spot-on take on influencer culture in a way that is never cruel or demeaning. Iman has a beautiful way of being honest while always remaining empathetic, and her characters are always so fully realized because of it. Laia you will always be famous to ME!!!!!!!!!!

When you lose count over how many times you’ve teared up and cried during a book you know it’s a banger.

Yet again Iman has given us a witty tongue in cheek, self aware story that I think everyone will be able to take something away from. While this book is funny and satirical at times it also packs an emotional punch and dissects social media, societal pressures, western beauty standards, mental health and self doubt. But also along side those topics has our main characters fight for love, self acceptance, true authenticity and happiness. I think Iman did something special here.

The romance. Laia and Noah were such a pleasure to read. Stuck in a time loop where everyone around them are npcs and have the tendency to glitch, Laia and Noah are determined to get back to reality but things aren’t that simple. Laia is an Iranian social media influencer who makes DITL’s has lost herself. She’s constantly chasing the unattainable and although she doesn’t say it out loud, it’s pretty obvious that she’s miserable. Noah sees right through her and is adamant that in order to get home something in her daily life has to shift. Noah is steadfast and strong but he also has his own problems he’s by no means a “cookie cutter” or as I like to say a “cardboard cut out” mmc and I loved that he had his own struggles to get through too. Laia and Noah spend day after day trying to break the time loop whilst also opening up, learning to be brave, doing things they typically wouldn’t out of fear and falling in love.

One thing I loved is that even though this is very much a commentary on social media and influencer lifestyle Iman never points the finger and makes it feel like influencers are the “bad guys” but more so a product of the world we’re living in. Laia actually loves sharing her life online, it’s her fear of showing her true authentic self in case people turn their backs on her that she’s scared of.

The sex. Iman writes some hot and emotional sex scenes and I feel like the sex and the conversation around sex in this book is just so important. The way that Laia talks about her relationship with sex and what she gets or more so, what she doesn’t get out of it is gut punching and all too familiar and the fact that Noah is able to pick up on this, slow things down and ask questions was just a delight to read.

The writing. Again sharp, snappy and witty, I was laughing one moment and crying the next. The writing is smooth and the pacing is brilliant. We’re allowed to linger in emotional scenes and the time loop scenes we see again and again don’t feel repetitive.

Overall a very special book with so many little messages and packed full of romance but also life lessons and reminders to be your true self. An absolute pleasure to read

An influencer stuck reliving her own "day in the life" video forever, until a scruffy stranger shows up insisting he's stuck too? Say less.

Laia Grace (yes, we will be saying both names the entire book, it's a whole bit) is doing the aspiring-NYC-lifestyle-influencer thing: the light, the latte, the life. Except the day keeps glitching. Turns out she's not filming content anymore, she IS the content, trapped in an infinite scroll of her own making. Enter Noah: unshaven, unfiltered (literally), and just as stuck as she is.

The Groundhog Day thing is hard to pull off and this mostly lands it. The early chapters lean into the repetition a little too hard though; I get that "stuck reliving the same day" needs to FEEL stuck, but there's a difference between "atmospheric" and "I've read this latte order description three times now." Once Noah shows up and they start actually working the problem, the pacing snaps into place.

What actually got me was the stuff underneath the algorithm gimmick: Laia hiding her Middle Eastern identity because of how she was treated for it, the dyed hair and colored contacts as costume, the way "authenticity" gets performed instead of lived when your job is posting your life. That's the real plot, and it's handled with heart.

The romance itself is a slow burn built on shared vulnerability rather than instant sparks, which I appreciated (no insta-love here). the ending was a liiiiitle cheesy but overall good and made me feel warm and fuzzy.

worth noting that this book is funny AF. I was laughing out loud in multiple parts.

I did have some confusion about the timeline overlap...the author tries to explain "why" it was "2 weeks" for Noah, but the solution didn't really land for me. idk how long a kidney transplant process takes when someone is in a coma, but felt a bit....forced? drawn out? idk.

TLDR: Black Mirror meets a Hallmark movie, with an Iranian American FMC finally choosing herself over the algorithm.

I loved Female Fantasy by Iman Hariri-Kia and knew going in to Once in a Timeline that I was in for a treat. I love magical realism, and Groundhog Day is one of my comfort movies, so I was immediately intrigued by the premise.

Without giving too much away, and honestly I recommend going in to this as blind as you can, our FMC, Laia is an influencer stuck in her perfect day. Every morning she wakes up, films her content, goes to events, then wakes up the next morning to do the exact same day over again. As time goes on, Laia starts to realize things feel a little weird, she starts questioning her day, and we get glimpses into how imperfect her life really is. On a particularly bad day, she runs into Noah and lets her know that actually they're both stuck in the algorithm and they need to work together to break out of this glitch.

The way Iman handles the influencer culture, it's not a mockery but an incredible commentary on how perfection is unattainable, even when influencers present themselves and their lives as perfect. The inauthenticity of social media and the way western culture defines beauty are both heavy plot points but also feel very rooted in reality.

The pop culture references in this book are insane - some truly deep cuts that had me laughing out loud. They're slipped in so well that I would reread them like, "wait is she referencing this?!" and were the absolute highlight.

Laia and Noah also have incredible chemistry and banter, they both opened up to one another about their insecurities and perceived failures, and they both encouraged each other to stand up for themselves. I'm walking away from this book wanting to be more open and honest with my friends and family, and myself really.

I genuinely went into this with pure curiosity. A book about a day in the life of an influencer? Not sure how I really felt about that. What I didn't expect was really fun magical realism, a lot of well written humor, and a very, very deep underlying message that I think most people these days need to hear.

This book is such a smart, layered look at influencer culture and everything that comes with it. It digs into Western beauty standards in a way that felt really honest. There's a lot here about self love and acceptance too, but not in a cheesy way, more like an unflinching look at how hard it is to actually love yourself when the whole system is built to make you feel like you need to change. I also really appreciated the cultural perspective woven through it, it added a layer of depth that made it feel even more real and not just surface level commentary.

To be honest, I was generally sort of shocked at the depth of this book, thinking that it would be more surface level, which is sort of the theme of the entire book. Ironic, as that is.

On top of all of that, there was just a really genuinely feet kicking good romance, several plot twists that had my jaw dropped, this one was a page turner. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. This was such a good time.

If you combined a time-loop rom-com with influencer culture, “stuck in the algorithm” magic realism, finding your true self, Persian heritage, and a fantastic audiobook… you’d get Once in a Timeline! 🎧

I went into this one blind, and I think that made it even better. There were definitely moments where I was like, “Hmm…where are we going with this?!” 🤔 but once everything came together, I was completely invested. Laia is an FMC you really have to let unfold as she figures out who she is beneath the perfectly curated life she created online.

I loved the message about finding validation within yourself instead of constantly looking for it from everyone else. I think even if you’re not an influencer, we can all relate to the struggle of balancing our real lives with the version we see through our phones. Even on Bookstagram, it’s easy for a fun hobby to become about numbers, engagement, and how our lives look online. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also loved Noah and Laia’s relationship and watching them help each other become better versions of themselves. 🥹 Along the way, the story explores generational pressure, cultural identity, Western beauty standards, career expectations, and the fear of letting people see the real you. I especially loved the pieces of Laia’s Persian heritage and her desire to hold onto her family history and what makes her who she is. After recently reading The Lion Women of Tehran, it was neat to see that connection in a completely different story.

And the audiobook! 👏🏼 The sound effects, especially the ones that felt like actual social media videos popping up while scrolling, made the “stuck in the algorithm” concept even more immersive as you listen. I love those kinds of little details!

Okay this was soooo much fun! I finished this in just one day. Thank you Sourcebooks Audio and Cosmo Reads for this gifted audiobook and gifted eARC. I went into this book blind and began with the audiobook and it was excellent. Samantha Brentmoor is such an incredible narrator and she really pulled me in to this story with the way the audio began. It was fun and unique right from the start and I was immediately hooked. Content creator and influencer Laia Grace is “Groundhog Day” stuck in her “A Day In The Life” video forced to relive her “Perfect Day” on repeat until she meets a stranger who’s determined to help her escape the algorithm shes stuck in. There were a few times where I actually laughed out loud here - I have a few hilighted quotes that have my signature “I’m deadddd” written next to them. I even found myself tearing up at one point. This was so clever, creative and enjoyable and I highly recommend adding to your rom-com TBR. Especially if you’re into audiobooks! Once in a Timeline is out 10/13!

Magical realism fans- this one is for you.

What would happen if you got stuck in the algorithm? Like time stopped and you are forced to relive your perfect day in the life video that you posted over and over again. That’s reality for Laia Grace.

I was so pleasantly taken aback by how this story transpires. There was absolutely a moment that stopped me in my tracks and had me looking around the room wishing someone else was experiencing this with me because whaaaat!?! So good. I love when books give you that kind of feeling.

This was also such a great take on influencer culture in general and how society views content creators plus add in a dab of the patriarchy with a smidge of xenophobia and this book is going to give you a lot to ponder and talk about.

Overall, I had a fantastic time and I really enjoy Iman Hariri-Kia’s writing style and voice. Thank you so much to Cosmo Reads for the early copy!

I freaking love a good Groundhog Day time loop book! Seriously I eat it up EVERY TIME!

Laia Grace is everything. Trying to be a big time influencer by filming “her perfect day” only to find herself living it over and over and over again. And when she has to work through why she’s experiencing the same day on repeat, she discovers so much about herself. I loved her breaking from the influencer mold and returning to her authentic self. It was perfect.

I loved the narrator. She gave Laia the perfect personality.

And even the Ground Hog's Day and Truman Show mentions- all movies I grew up on. This story also gave me Just Like Heaven vibes which is also one of my favorites. I loved it! The book started superficial but then morphed and uniquely portrayed how much we change for others and put up a front on social media. Most people only post the highlights from life so they can fit in. We try to change ourselves to what we think people want, but we need to love ourselves first. Great read! 👏

A swoony, clever, modern twist on a Groundhog Day scenario. This book centered on a beauty influencer unknowingly stuck in a never-ending loop of her "perfect day." The slow burn, fated romance, while an important plot point, only helped elevate the story of not fitting in, finding yourself, the unrealistic beauty standards of today, while thoughtfully touching on the realities of depression and consumerism. There were times I was laughing, crying, and kicking my feet. Hariri-Kia's style of writing kept me engaged, excited, and left me full of hope.
