Fourteen-year-old Elijah Storm is a typical teenage boy who thirsts for adventure and puts up with his family’s Christianity. It is not that Elijah doesn’t want to be a Christian; it is that he loves adventures and sees the Christian life as boring. Through the sudden death of his grandfather, Elijah learns that the Christian life is the greatest adventure in all creation as he discovers an amazing new realm and embarks on a life-long quest to take his grandfather’s place as a defender of the realms.
What an amazing way to portray our journey in the Lord! With a feel of Narnia, I was engaged in each step, each fight and every moment of victory. This book is for the new Christian, the young believer who will need guidance and what a better way to help them and unbelievers is one of those bedtime stories parents need to remind their children that greater is he that is in them than he that is in the world! I look forward to next book as well as other books by Nathan D Thomas. Not i was blessed!
LOVE THIS BOOK!! Perfect family adventure that knits truth throughout!! Much akin to CS Lewis Chronicles of Narnia. This was a family read aloud and we all throughly enjoyed the story and conversations it brought up about spirit and flesh. Fantasticly written an adventure worth reading!!
This is a speculative story – the author’s idea of what might be happening around us in a spiritual realm. If you enjoy speculative fantasy, you’ll probably really like this enjoyable read. Teenager Eli is devastated. His beloved grandfather has just passed away. While everyone gathers after the funeral, Eli goes off alone - needing time to deal with his grief. In a moment of quiet contemplation, he chooses to honor his grandfather’s wishes and truly turn his life over to Christ. This momentous decision changes everything. Suddenly Eli finds himself in a spiritual realm. If he has the courage to answer his calling, he will begin his mission of defeating evil and defending the faith in both the spiritual and the earthly realms. This first book in the series is an action-packed adventure focusing on Eli’s training. In order to become a Defender of the Realm, this young teen must first complete several challenges. As Eli works to prove himself worthy of this Holy mission, his newfound faith and internal strength are put to the test.
A new author to me. I loved the way the author wove in scripture, doctrine, and application of the Bible into the novel. It is for young teens, but I loved it as an adult. I am always looking for more Christian teen fiction, there is soooo little available. I think I can count on one hand, the number of excellent Christian authors for youth. Therefore I was especially happy to find this author.
We have 5 grandchildren so, I am always on the hunt for a Good Christian author, who is not afraid to include Bible verses and how to apply them to our life.
It also was a interesting Christian fantasy/reality novel.
This is a fantastical AND Biblical story that uses Scripture as our weapons and Faith as our Guide in life and within the Realms! It has a plot that can be placed in anyone’s life as a teaching and empowering force that a Christ follower needs. NOT religious; Inspirational! This might be for teens and young adults, but I as a 49-year-old woman NEEDED THIS in 2022. I will continue to follow Eli’s quest for the Armor of God in Ephesians 6 and will try make sure mine is kept. Eli will capture your heart and help you to find your path to and with Jesus. Amen! I have been blown away at the depth of doctrine, theology, and real world application that this book makes. Parables and lessons from the Bible come alive in such a clear and concise way that you'll forget your reading fantasy and see the parallels to your own Christian life. My kids groan when they think Eli is going to make the wrong decisions, we cheer when he overcomes the Enemy, and our spirits are pricked when we recognize our own failings.
I was so hopeful regarding this book, but it was so weak and disappointing that I had to skip past most of it to the end just to be finished. The descriptions and dialogue were totally Lame. I did not enjoy it at all.
3/5 stars. I enjoyed the book more this time than the first time I read it. I feel that this book portrays somehow the christian life and everything. I do think that somethings happened way too fast, like the fact the Eli converted into a christian too fast.
