There are some families that welcome newcomers with open arms, then there are the Butlers. An East End family no good girl wants to marry into…

Michael Butler was always the nice one, until he started running the family business. Nancy is desperate to leave, and though she would never turn her back on her children, every step they take in their father’s footsteps destroys her a little more.

As the old saying goes – you keep your friends close, and your enemies closer…

But you keep your family right where you can see them.

Mother of God. This one was full on all they way but just when I was settling down to finish it she threw a tsunami at me. I was gobsmacked. Had to take some deep breaths. Fucking brilliant twist. I never saw it coming ...

We are in the eighties now. Vinny is still the dirty scumbag that he always was ... well, in my opinion anyway. Michael - you're not too far behind him. Little Vinny, you are quite the little prick too.

"You were right about my dad all along, Granddad. he's a proper cunt."

Queenie and Viv ... you just have to laugh at them and their antics. Sherry and Brandy sales were high with them around.

Queenie and Vivian had found a new tipple they were rather partial to. It was called Baileys ...

"I saw Fat Beryl down the market yesterday. Got Indians either side of her now. Be like walking through the streets of Calcutta 'ere soon ..."

"Everything will be OK, Mum. That cunt God must hate us, but he'll never break us. Us Butlers are unbreakable ..."

I wonder will they get their comeuppance and who will be the one to break the Butlers. Vinny has a lot of enemies. Slimy bastard.

"To new beginnings."

This is the 3rd book in Kimberley Chambers series about The Butler family. It starts where Payback finishes and gets straight back into the story again.
 photo hqdefault_zpsujm3ab5z.jpg
Michael is now running the club and the business.
Vinny is serving time in prison but thats not going to slow him down. Plotting and planning and waiting for his sentence to end he knows exactly what he needs to do when he gets out.

Its now the Eighties and things are changing....
Can the brothers pull together?

All in all, you’re a top fucking brother, Michael Butler , and I love ya to death.’

Its very hard to talk about the book without giving anything away about the plot and I really don't want to spoil any of the story ahead..
So I will go straight to my thoughts.....

Kimberley Chambers you have pulled out another great corker with this story. It was so worth the wait. The Butlers are great. In honesty none of them have any real redeeming qualities but they are fantastic characters.
I love Queenie and Viv.

Now Vinny.... A psycho, but one that adores his mother Queenie and his daughter and will stop at nothing to keep his family together.

I can't actually believe that it is coming up to three years since I read my first Kimberley Chambers book. I had no idea when I decided to read The Feud that I would spend that week barely sleeping, unable to stop reading until I had completed the Mitchell & O'Hara trilogy. Now a number one bestselling author, Kimberley is finally receiving the recognition and success that she absolutely deserves.

Discussing the plot or even the characters without giving away the plot of previous books is impossible, and I would definitely recommend reading The Trap and Payback before The Wronged. Events in The Wronged left me speechless, and the chilling and haunting ending was in my thoughts for weeks afterwards. Picking up following the events of Payback and the years that followed, we learn just what has happened to the Butler family in that time. With the amount of death and heartache the family has suffered in the past, it isn't over yet and it isn't long before the family is once again falling apart. With enemies within and outside the family this is again a story of revenge, and that makes the book all the more exciting because there's characters plotting away but we don't know just whose plans will come to fruition and who will even still be alive by the end of the book. The writing style and back and forth way the story is told might not be for everyone, but I love it. It allows for lots of mini-cliffhangers throughout the book.

Kimberley creates some fantastic characters, but also some extremely hateful ones as well. Vinny Butler and his son, Little Vinny are two evil characters. But, they are also two of the most fascinating and the series wouldn't be the same without them. Is it wrong for me to be looking for positives in these two characters? Queenie and Vivian are just brilliant, two proper East End characters that I just love and who almost had me in tears laughing thanks to Kim's unique brand of humour. Never afraid to say it how it is, or to voice their opinions loud and clear, they say what most other people are afraid to say and Queenie is definitely one of my favourites in the Butler family. I loved the little nods from Kim to things taking place around the time the book is set, watching Brookside and the start of EastEnders being some standout parts thanks to the sisters observations. They certainly aren't afraid to tell people what they think of them, often in the knowledge that the threat of Michael and Vinny will shut most people up.

I love the East End of London, it's one of my favourite areas and despite it being vastly different nowadays, I love reading books that capture that era and Kimberley does that so well. Everything about The Wronged is so vivid because of how authentic the whole thing feels, nods to real life gangsters and places, mentions of music, films, TV shows, news events and of course brilliant descriptions thanks to Kimberley's knowledge of the area all help to form that picture inside your head. I would love to see these books made into a TV show one day.

This genre often has strong female characters, but with Kimberley's books the male characters are often the more dominant and do rule the roost so to speak, but the power of certain female characters is often understated, and well, I was left stunned with the actions of a couple of the female characters during this book... To say more would of course ruin it and there are far too many characters and history for me to relay here, but it was brilliant. Speaking of strong male characters, I was delighted to see Eddie Mitchell played a rather significant role in this book rather than just a couple of fleeting appearances. Fans are crying out for a return to the Mitchell family and I think the story here will satisfy those readers wanting a full story. Also, Facebook fans will be pleased to finally see the latest addition to the Butler family...

Kimberley has really played a blinder with this one. You only have to read my other reviews of her books to see just how much I love this author, but that means that I judge each book more harshly rather than just giving them all five stars. I mean every single word when I say how good this book was, how much I enjoyed it and how much I recommend it. This will surely be another number one for Kimberley Chambers, and here's to many more in the future.

I first read Kimberley Chambers last August and by September I turned the last pages of the Payback it has been long wait for this book so when I was offered The wronged by Kimberley herself it was like winning the lottery as if I had to choose one author to read for life it would be Kimberley books as I love her 'hard man thuggish thrillers.

The wronged as all Kim's fans will know is the third book in the butler series the first one is the trap the second one is Payback.

In the wronged we start of where payback left us with a funeral of a character and Vinny being in prison I will try hard not to spoil anything within the wronged.

Whilst Vinny is in prison it was nice to see Michael become DARE I say it main man of the family as everyone knows Queenie is the head of the butlers as so she rightly points out if it wasn't for her none of them would not exist. I always thought Michael was more of the calmer and nicer butler especially as you see him of a relationship with Albie his father but being a butler there is a nasty and violent side of him which we see in this book but whilst Vinnie is in prison I think Michael does a brilliant job in holding the butler empire together even though he is not appreciated for it.

Young Vinny he I think is one to watch as sometimes I didn't like him and other times I felt sorry for him. Young Vinny does play apart in a character that gets what is coming to him as if it weren't for his lies this person would probably still be getting the better of Vinnie Butler so he did sort of grow on me as I could see from the start of the wronged to the end of the book this is the character who endured the most growth for me.

I love the females in this book I've always liked Nancy far to sweet and kind to be a butler and my heart went out to her in this book but I'm so glad she got what I think is a second chance as for Queenie and Aunt Viv I would love to spend the weekend with them I love the relationship between them they are each other's rocks no matter what happens.

I have to mention the newcomer to the butler family that of Fred the dog I have seen pics of him on Facebook so nice to see him have a mention in the book.

With the wronged you do not have to wait for the build up of drama it just happens straight away every single chapter is action packed there was no time to catch my breath and I loved it

I think Kimberley is an incredible writer the way in which she writes this type of book the violence, the toughness, the swearing, the drugs, the family loyalty I wish I knew where she gets her inspiration from for the butlers as everything is just genius.

The ending totally threw me I think my heart stopped I could not believe it. I can see big things for book 4 I noticed that the Mitchell's was mentioned a few times as if kim had plans I think to keep them allies especially as something is said at the end of the book i think the butlers will need all the friends they have also I have a lot of questions in my head that I need answers to that I'm hoping book 4 will answer especially concerning little Vinny who will he grew up to be ? Will he still blame others for his own mistakes? Would like to see the relationship between young Vinny and Daniel as these are growing up i think if young Vinny goes off the rails these two could be worse than the current generation of Butlers ever was.

If you're a fan of Kimberley's like myself this book will not disappoint so much drama happens and the wronged should be and think will be another best seller for Kimberley

I'm not sure what I'm going to do while I'm waiting for the next book as would love to read it now but I know it will be worth waiting for.

The wronged is a brilliant book and its worth more than a 5/5.

Thank you so much to Kimberley for letting  me have a review copy of the Wronged.

OH MY GOD. Kimberley. You have written a book and half here.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books featuring the wonderful Butler Family. The Trap and Payback. And after the end of Payback, I thought Kimberley would really have her work cut out matching it, But no, Kimberley has not matched it. shes bettered it. This is why Kimberly Chambers is such a fantastic author . And I think this book has everything a book should have. It keeps you wanting more. Holding your breath, talking to the pages, laughing, screaming at characters.
I had decided before I started this book that I was going to take my time with it, and enjoy it. OHHH no that isn't possible, because once started you just can't help but keep going. Then you end up gutted that you have to wait, for Kimberley to bring out another book.

What A fantastic read.

I would really like to suggest that if you have not read the first two books, then it really is worth doing so before you start this one. I think you would get away with just reading this alone, but you would enjoy it even more if you had read the previous two. Available here - The Trap. Payback. And if you haven't yet read them then Lucky you.... you can read all 3 back to back.

Again we visit the not so wonderful Butler family. A family that seem to make the rules up as they go along. Queenie and her sister Viv, still seem to be my favorite characters. I love the way they come across. I think a Life and loves of Queenie and Viv book should be written. I think the humour in Queenie and Viv, and their no nonsense ways is first class.
This book kicks off pretty much from the ending of the last one, and if you have read the last one you will know what I mean.
Michael and Vinny are The Buttler men, Vinnie is a man on a mission, someone not to be messed with, . Michael seems slightly more likeable, but certainly not loveable. His boys are slowly growing up, what sort of life would you want for your sons. I'm sure it wouldn't be a Butler life.
Little Vinny is well, just a little twat, or a big one as he has started to grow up now. I hated him in the last book, and I hated him in this book.
But my feeling for the characters is what helped me fly through this book. It doesn't matter which character you love or hate, you need to know what is going on with them, and therefore you have to keep reading.
I'm trying my best not to say everything I want to say about this book, because if like me you have waited a year to read it, then it would be so unfair to spoil any of it for you.

This book......this series......

"You keep your friends close, and your enemies closer…
But you keep your family right where you can see them."

With Michael running the show and keeping the Butler's safe and their enemies in line, he has his hands beyond full. With three boys who are a proving to be a chip off of the ole family mantra and a
marriage on the rocks, his brother in prison, family member dying on the drop of a dime and covering up murders like he is changing socks, Michael is bound to break.

 photo PicsArt_02-26-09.22.11_zpsz4oc3bls.png

Just when Michael thinks he has things under control, tragedy strikes again and the Butler family is once again tossed into the middle of fighting to remain the dominating family they have always been.

One tragedy leads right into another and there is no stopping the darkness that has plagued them.

Kimberly Chambers.....I AM HOOKED SO BAD!! LOVE ME SOME BUTLERS!!

The Wronged is the third book in The Butler series. I would highly recommend reading the books in order as there are things you would need to know about the characters pasts and boy what pasts they are!

This is a family that you will love and hate at the same time. My emotions and feelings for some of the characters were constantly changing. Sometimes I liked them or even worried about them, then they would do something of which I didn’t agree with and I started to resent them.

The older generation of the family really lighten up this otherwise dark and compelling read. So many times I found myself chuckling away at something they would come out with or even their antics. The younger generation, well they broke my heart. Literally. I don’t think anyone is born bad but it certainly doesn’t help having the fathers that they do.

As always the author never fails to put me through the wringer with her story telling. One part I couldn’t read from the floodgates that had opened in my eyes. There definitely isn’t any fairy tale endings in these books but then that’s usually real life for you.

The Wronged is another emotional and hard hitting read. It really is like your favourite television soap apart from instead of watching it, you are reading about it. This is one family, that whilst you will thank god for not knowing or living near them, they will steal a piece of your heart.

I really enjoy this series, although if I met a Butler I would run a mile. So entertaining, a bit raw in places but that is what makes this series so intriguing. As for Queenie and Viv they are hilarious, not to everybody's taste, but certainly mine. Looking out for the next book now. You need to read them in order to get into the full story.

The reason I have put book 3 in the title is I've noticed some people don't realise this is part of the Butler Family Series and there are now five books.
Like I've said with the other two books this book was fantastic and probably the best out of the 3 so far , when it comes to twists and shocks I truly didn't see them coming and found the book unpredictable.
Vinny still being the terror that he is and Michael also stepping up in the family and don't get me started on the junior Butlers.
Queen and Viv are as amazing as ever and their relationship is one in a million.
When I first started I questioned what else can this family go through, how much more could KC write about and my answer to that A LOT!!!
I have now downloaded the last 2 books as waiting 30 seconds for them to download is far too long 😊 . It's taken me around 5 days to read the 3 books and I can't stop now.
Well done! KC another fantastic read.

Loving this series. It is gritty and has a few incidents of language, but it all feels proportionate to the story and lifestyle of the characters. After all, these are very intelligent people even if they chose a life of crime.
The twists and turns of the story kept me engrossed and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series very much.
Gangster crime of very good quality!

Wow, yet again I was not disappointed. What an outstanding book, just as full of trauma, emotion, and shocks as the previous books....As Head of the family although he is one evil man and a force to be reckoned with his family always comes first and he adores his mom...I just cannot help but like Vinny Butler ... Bring on Tained Love , book 4 in the series.

Quality Rating: Two/Three Stars?
Enjoyment Rating: One/Two Stars?

Thank you to HarperCollins for providing me with this copy to review!

This is the first review copy I've ever not been able to finish, and I've been wondering about how to write this review fairly, but not harshly. It's hard for me to distinguish between what I just didn't like about this book, and what actually are the flaws in it. I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to be brutally honest - I am asked to be after all - but also accepting that I clearly wasn't part of this target audience and so am not that likely to understand its reasonings.

For me, I can't say that I particularly enjoyed the writing of The Wronged. There was an unnecessary amount of swearing - and I have no problem with swearing. But when it gets to the point where you can't find a line that doesn't have swearing that has now lost all impact because it's been used so much, I think it's gone too far. The general structure also just didn't work for me: it seemed like a very basic 'this happened, and then this happened, and then he went and did this, then she said this' ordeal and it just took out any sort of tension or pace, and frankly enjoyment for me. The extremely short scenes didn't really help this. The page-and-a-half conversations worked at the start to throw us into the story, but as it carried on it felt a bit like Chambers couldn't maintain a narrative for more longer.

I really liked how the story begins straight in the middle of everything: it was a different kind of way to be introduced to the characters and I think worked quite well for tying each of them together. On the other hand, being told who Molly's murderer was within the first few pages lost all the suspense and mystery for the rest of the book to me. I was expecting another couple of things that hinted otherwise to come up, but as far as I could see we were just jumping off the dysfunctional members of the family, with their typical drug taking, and abortions, and this that and the other. Maybe if I'd kept reading something new would have jumped out, or perhaps a different take on these issues, but unfortunately by the time I got to my decision limit [the number of pages I make myself read to make sure I'm not being lazy or giving up too soon] it just wasn't enough to keep me reading.

The characters were very dislikable for me, and seemed to lack any sense of depth and were incredibly robotic. Sure, they had issues, and they were conflicted about these things, but there wasn't any sense that it was important or that what they were choosing was going to have any implications on them in the future: they just seemed a bit...emotionless.
Little Vinny seems to be the focus for everything going wrong in the family, but honestly I can't see anything he did wrong that was any worse than the rest of them. And they all seemed unconditionally against him, so can you really blame him for going out all the time and having 'typical teenager behaviour'?
Queenie also stood out to be as an important character, and perhaps is has more gravity over the later parts of the book, but she did nothing of note while I was reading.

Without reading the whole book, it's hard to talk about the pacing: from what I read, it started off well but then feel and hovered at exactly the same rate for a long time. The dramas didn't grow or fall in tension; there weren't plot twists with any effect. I would thin this was partly to do with the tiny scene lengths; we'd have a chapter with quite a few little scenes in them that lasted a page and a half before shifting to someone else. Because of this I was never reading anything long enough to get any sort of attachment about it.

Like I said, I'm clearly not the target audience for this book: I just didn't understand the purpose of the structure, I hated the characters and was bored of the melodramatic dramas even fifty pages. It just was not for me. But I don't think I really know who it was for, either.

Blurb from Goodreads

Vinny Butler has used his time in prison well: to plan the downfall of all who’ve wronged him.

As always with the Butlers, family comes first: Vinny’s brother Michael may think he’s the top dog running the family business, but it won’t last when Vinny finds out how good his brother’s got it.

Meanwhile, Vinny is incensed when he finds out that Joanna had a baby in secret while he was in prison – but that’s nothing compared to his anger when he finds out who the father is.

In the background, Little Vinny thinks he’s one step ahead of his dad as always, and playing a dangerous game: he’s still keeping a secret he’ll take to his grave – even if that means that he sends more people to theirs first…

The Butlers are at war, and they’re taking everyone down with them – it’s all going to end in flames…

My Review

Can we just start with one word please, SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL! I have eagerly awaited this since I got an ARC of the second installment and stayed up til 4am reading it! I had this one for a few days before picking it up, why? Because when you have two awesome books in a series you do worry, just how good can the third one be? Well, I shouldn't have bothered holding off, ooft Chambers brings it forward and blows it out of the water!

We left off book two with some shocking revelations, I won't say what however if you haven't read the first two, do so now as your doing yourself and the story a disservice! We open up on Christmas Eve, 1985 with Queenie, the head of the family, & Vivian her sister getting a blessing from a priest after all the deaths. Then we promptly flick back to 1980, at the funeral from the last death in book two (am I teasing you? Good you need to go read the previous ones!), and pick up almost immediately where we left off in the last book. The family are trying to come to terms with all that has transpired and more mayhem, murder, secrets and lies follow.

Little Vinnie is growing up, Ahmed is still hell bent on his plan, Michael has room to be his own man and put his plans into place and Vinnie senior is still as dangerous as he was and hangs in the shadows for no man or woman. As the story progresses, even more secrets are exposed, scandals are revealed and shocks, twists and turns are at the ready to send the reader into a tizzy! Honestly I can't recommend this series enough, a new member of the family appears by the name of Fred which if you follow Chambers Facebook you will be delighted by this "familiar" face. The book will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you frustrated and wanting more, which is what a good author is meant to do, 5/5 for me this time. Will I be reading this author again? Hell yeah, she is fast becoming one of my favourites and I cannot wait for the next installment!

It's not literary prize winning fiction, but boy what a story teller. The Butler family are like an addiction, gotta know what happens next. The books need to be read in order to fully appreciate them; The Wronged being the latest. This book moves so fast that before you know it it's ended and I really want to know what happens next.

Thank you, Kimberley Chambers for introducing me to the Butlers and all their clan.

“Not for the Faint Hearted”

I have never read/listened to a book that had this affect on me. I still despised most of the characters but found it compelling and addictive. I just hope the Butlers the main stars of this book get their comeuppance especially Vinny who has managed to have 9 lives. Even though he spent time in prison it just made him much harder, vindictive and dam right evil. The villain of the peace is his mum Queenie who knows what Vinny is capable of but turns a blind eye. Anyone who wrongs this family may as well flee the country or their life will be over. I am going to read the last instalment of the 4 parter and I cannot wait to see how everything is resolved or whatever Kimberley Chambers has in store. One thing to add if you read one of the series of books Kimberley Chambers cleverly works in some explanations so you get a bit of background but for reading all the books in order works best.

I stumbled into this book(pdf) by chance. I hadn't known at the time that it was part of a series; I hardly read back covers. I only learned that it was book 3 when I updated my goodreads account, and by that time I was about 30% through the book. Anyhow,

I really must commend Kimberly Chambers on her style of writing and the theme she chose for this book. Splendid.

I am not a fan of the Butlers though, and wish they'd all just die nje. Based on how this one ended, I can only guess that book 4 is hectic and more dramatic.

Considering how long The Wronged is, you'd half expect that the ending would be satisfying and that a certain character will get what it deserved, but nope. Nothing of that nature. Disappointing.

On the bright side though, the type of vulgar language and slang used in this book will keep you intrigued and glued to those pages. That's what got me.

All in all a good read.

Although I enjoyed this novel and it did keep me turning pages, as with the other novels in this series it did irritate me in some ways.

I'm starting to find the language a little grating as I don't feel it's necessary quite as much as this book uses it. Also, there were some pretty predictable plot twists which is always a disappointment.

The biggest thing of all for me though was how much of an anticlimax the whole war between Vinny and Ahmed was. This had been building for a whole 2 books and then was just a let down when it came to it.

Ughhhh, I do love the Butlers. BUT this was my least favourite Kimerley Chambers book so far.

Don't get me wrong, I was still gripped and read it in two days but the other ones were way more thrilling for me. The reason being, the Ahmed / Vinny situation was just a complete anti climax. I wanted DRAMA. It was over in like, a paragraph. I also hadn't predicted much in Kimberley Chambers other books, but Nancy Running off to Dean, I did predict. It doesn't take away that Chambers is an amazing story teller and I will continue to purchase all her books.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and whilst it does have some very gory moments it helps with understanding the characters. Have read several other books by Kimberley Chambers and I look forward to reading more. This is one of those books that even when you have finished you still keep thinking about the characters.
