The Ripper
When a Jack the Ripper copycat killer murders a waitress in Whitechapel, a tabloid newspaper hires private detective Matthew Reid, descendant of the detective on the original case, as a publicity stunt to sell newspapers. Meanwhile, when Reid’s daughter Chelsea, a survivor of a vicious attacker who butchered her face, learns that a killer is stalking a group of Ripperologists at a writer’s convention in Florida, Reid’s investigation becomes much more than he bargained for. With the help of the ghosts of the original five victims of the Ripper, Chelsea discovers that a sadistic entity believes itself to be the ghost of the Jack the Ripper, and when the entity starts hopping bodies, the streets of Fort Lauderdale run red with blood.

Maldonado now lives in Lehigh Acres, Florida, with his small family and two dogs, Esme and Sammy. He's a fan of most things geeky (think: Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Charmed, Once Upon A Time, The Walking Dead, all kind of books like Beautiful Creatures, The Vampire Chronicles, Twilight Saga, The Hunger Games, Fear Street, Harry Potter...). He has been in love with books since he was given his first novel on his 8th birthday called "I Know What You Did Last Summer" by Lois Duncan, way before Hollywood ever thought of making a Blockbuster movie out of it.
Everyone who knew him in school says that he is caring, giving, and the brave one out of the group of friends. Every time you see Maldonado, he always has a book in his hand reading. While he was in high school he wrote poems and short stories and had a number of them published in the school newspaper.

The Ripper is a riveting horror story by L.A. Maldonado. Ripperologist Chelsea Reid gains clairvoyant vision after a brutal attack and warns a stranger in Whitechapel of her forthcoming murder. A tabloid hires Chelsea’s detective father, Matthew, descendant of the detective on the original case, to increase their newspaper sales when the woman is murdered and a Jack the Ripper copycat surfaces. Matthew is unaware of Chelsea’s involvement, but gets a message that she is the Ripper’s intended target and visits her at a Ripperology convention in Fort Lauderdale. His timing is perfect when Ripperologists, spellbound by an occult group known as the Ripper’s Ring which is controlled by the original murderer, commit acts of evisceration. Matthew and Chelsea acknowledge the guidance of Jack the Ripper’s first five victims who trail them everywhere, but wonder if they are walking into a trap.
The Ripper is not suitable for the squeamish, due to its graphic descriptions, but it’s certainly a fascinating horror tale worth reading. L.A. Maldonado displays his excellent writing capabilities with an original, dark version of Jack the Ripper. Although it’s fiction, the author’s well-defined details are convincing, thus the lifestyle of the original prostitutes are probably accurate; especially that of Jack the Ripper’s mother, who was brutish but provided amusement to the story with her bawdy antics. The story has a captivating beginning that lured me into reading. I was thrilled with the gripping drama and great dialogue that followed. The characters are all noteworthy ones who made The Ripper more exciting to read.

What a terrific story! A truly gripping and terrifying tale of another ripper type serial killer. This is a short story and a fast read but a very well written story with well developed characters and a well developed story line. This is a must read!!!
