Around a year ago, my friends and I got together to watch an MMA fight. During one of the preliminary fights to the main event I watched a women get beaten so hard that her face pealed open and began to expose the eye ball canal. My stomach turned and all of the sudden an ethical consideration popped up in my heart…. “Does God delight in this?”.

When I saw that Sean DeMars released a new book on the ethics of MMA from a Christian worldview I was thankful and intrigued. This book challenged me and gave language to thoughts I’ve kicked around in my head since that uncomfortable night a year ago.

I leave this work with a large spiritual pebble in my shoe that is causing me to heavily consider no longer watching MMA.

There are 3 strengths to the work:

1) Bullet proof argument: Sean’s argument is biblical and Christ centered. Christians will have a hard time disagreeing. His case is not overstated and the concise points make it easy to engage with.

2) Illustrations: DeMars is a preacher which means he loves to illustrate. His gifting towards simple comparisons and hypothetical questions help the reader see the severity of the topic anew.

3) Addressing Responses: Every argument and question I constructed in my mind going on was responses to and answered.

DeMars’ arguments are compelling, convincing, and filled with principles to be applied to other issues in our day.

Practically speaking I think that this resource could be used in a plethora of ways in ministry and personal edification. I think this work will be particularly helpful to show fellow believers how Christ is truly to be applied to all of life, and this is one issue that a faithful brother is attempting to achieve that goal in.

5/5, short read and worth the very reasonable price!
