The secret is out... and it's wearing a soprano's robe.
At Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Sunday morning is usually for praise. But when Valencia Dupree—a woman with a voice like silk and a smile full of secrets—joins the choir, the spirit isn't the only thing moving.
Keke Wilkerson has seen it all from the alto section, but she’s never seen a side chick audition for a duet with the First Lady. As the peppermints stop crunching and the truth begins to sing, the church is forced to face a scandal that not even the best-pressed robe can hide.
In this high-stakes urban drama, one woman will lose her position, one will find her freedom, and the whole town will find out what happens when you try to turn a lie into a solo.
Messy, messy, messy, yet hilarious! One Sunday service changed the lives of many, with one solo, and a letter to the church board. Pastor got backed into a corner, and should have just hid in the shadows, cause there was not getting out of this mess! 😮🤯 Miss Keke had me laughing out loud with her commentary. Another good, quick read with amazing gems intertwined.
This was funny and messy, Valencia was wearing audacity like it was dress that fit her body just right. I mean the nerve of her to walk in church during the choir see her little heart out and was having affair with the Pastor then thought that she could shame the first lady into thinking that she was the chosen one and in fact, the Pastor didn’t choose her at all he fed our lies and she ate them up like big mama fixed her a plate. This is the third book by this author that I read, and all her books are funny they are short stories and hilarious straight hilarious.
Listen to me, I am enjoying these short stories, they are truly making my weekend 👏🏾. Now the title alone felt like an oxymoron because a pastor and a mistress in the same sentence, Lordy. These church members had me so good 🤣, "I was nosy with spiritual discernment." I was talking to my husband while laughing throughout reading this and he just shook his head. But some really wise words were delivered with the tea - "Don't ever let a man make you audition for a place that was never yours." "And don't ever confuse being wanted with being valued." 🤏🏽
This book was soooooooooo messy and unfortunately a correct depletion on what goes on at some churches. Milton was only showed accountability for his actions after he was exposed and never sincerely apologized. I’m glad Denise and Valencia ended their relationships with Milton and started their own individual healing journeys. I really liked the new pastor, Pastor Bell because she was about our Father’s business. I also liked how KeKe was very observant and had Denise’s back.
This was a fun short story. Anyone who’s been a part of an African-American church can relate to the drama involved. Probably not to the exacts in the story, but on some way or fashion. The author has did a good job of providing depth in the characters. This story kept me laughing and engaged. I just wish the action wasn’t so predictable. I’d like to see more of a twist, but this was a good short story.
I liked the book and believe you me this book is a work of fiction. In some churches especially the African American Churches there is a story like this in Real life. The old Saying goes what is done in the dark will eventually come to light. God don't like ugly and he's not to crazy about beauty.
Story was funny from the beginning. It touched on a lot of stereotypes associated with churches. The fact that the former first lady came out on top was perfection.
My initial review not sure what how it ended as a comment. She came in messy. Her intent to cause drama. Then wanted to be given grace. The First lady kept it together for the most part.
Oh my goodness, this novella was a special type of messy😮😳…yet profoundly accurate & embarrassingly hilarious 🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️‼️Nevertheless, “The Pastor’s Mistress Joined The Choir: A Fun Church Dramedy Short Story” - Book 1 there’s more sanctimonious scandal🤭🫣🥴🫤‼️
This one was written differently and the writing style just became irritating to me with these short sentences instead of just writing what you mean in a paragraph. Ex She looked lighter. Not healed all the way. Not magically fixed. But lighter. Ex No anger. No performance. Just recognition.
