She’ll do whatever it takes to keep a roof over the head of herself and her one year old son. Including making nice with the twin she doesn’t remember and stealing baby food from a grocery store.

For once he just wants to have some fun with the hot girl, and Anya is more than willing to make him forget her petty theft in the most delicious way possible.

I really enjoyed this 5th book in the Blurred Lines Series. Before reading the book, I was doubtful about Anya making a credible main character. I was soon relieved of that worry, as there was so much more to her than what was apparent in the last book. She was very complicated and not always easy to like, but her fierce determination to do right by her son made me admire her. She hadn't had an easy life, and had never been shown love, so she didn't have much trust in relationships. Kane, on the other hand, was nurturing, and it was in his nature to take care of everyone. It was his inclination to step in and rescue everyone else without thinking much about what he needed. I really enjoyed the story of these two getting to know one another, and finding their way to a relationship that worked for both of them.

Anya is an impoverished, young single mother who has always had to look out for herself. She's afraid a man she turned to when she was backed into a corner will harm her son, so she seeks shelter with the twin sister she only recently realized she had. From experience, she knows to trust no one, but when she meets Kane at a bus station, he lends help when she needs it most. As they get to know one another, Anya is afraid to trust in her developing feelings for Kane. If they are to be able to have anything together, she will have to overcome her past in order to trust and believe in Kane and what they could have.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Breathe Me In. It was a very quick and easy book to read. It had great characters and an interesting storyline. I was glad to see the characters from the last book again, and was completely satisfied with the way the story played out.

It was a really nice read, even though I haven't read the previous books in the series. I really loved Kane and understood Anya. I cried and wished there was something to be done about this wonderful girl who had it such a difficult life, she didn't actually realize she was in love. I could have been easily a 5 star read but the ending seemed forced and left something to be desired.
Other than that, I really enjoyed it.

Another freaking fantastic book by Erin McCarthy!!!! Breathe Me In is book five in the Blurred Lines series and is Anya and Kane's story. Anya is Chloe's (from Meant for Me) twin sister and a single mother who has hit rock bottom. Anya and Chloe were abandoned by their parents and put into foster care, where they were split apart at the age of three. Anya doesn't remember Chloe and has learned not to trust anyone, she reacts very badly when Chloe tracks her down and they meet for the first time. When she gets kicked out of her apartment for refusing to have sex with the manager, she turns to Chloe and Ethan hoping they will take her and her son, Asher in. On her way to Chloe, Anya, who has no money and hasn't eaten in days, is desperate to get food for Asher and steals some baby food from a convenient store. She's confronted by a fellow shopper, Kane, who is also a cop, about her theft but he lets her go after buying her a sandwich, giving her some cash and making her give him her number. Their relationship is a series of ups and downs, Anya can't let go of her trust issues and Kane is the classic knight in shining armor, he does everything he can to ensure she is safe, happy and protected. This story was pretty intense and sometimes frustrating, I just wanted Anya to let go of the past and open her eyes to see what was in right front of her face.

The beginning was great and I really enjoyed how Anya and Kane interacted and how they started to bond. But as the story went on I started to get annoyed with Anya for being such a bit*h and with Kane for being such a wimp. I mean, the NYC epizode? He changed his mind with her doing nothing but looking sad.
The ending was way to rushed and nothing was really resolved even though we get to see a glimps of their happy ever after. I'd like to read a novella with those two, how they are three years from now, how they deal with their insecurities and issues and the probable baby.
I expected to see more interaction between her and Chloe and Ethan.
But overall I quite enjoyed this book)

The reality of this one is a little too far off for me, and from experience I know that when you're that down and out, you'll accept a little help survival partially depends on that. I tried to move past that, about mid way things started to get a little more realistic and I was like, 'ok I can deal with this'. I enjoyed that middle section of the book, wasn't super realistic to me, but I enjoyed it. Then that ending happened and it was a little too nonchalant for me.

You can checkout my full review and thoughts on the series here.

As are all of McCarthy's e-books, this was a quick, easy read. It was fun to see the story unfold of these final characters from the previous books. Once again, though, I felt unsatisfied with the ending. There were some interesting back stories to Anya and Kane and I would have liked to see them developed more. I also would have liked to see all of the characters from this series come together in some way since they're all connected. I was kind of surprised to see there wasn't a sixth book to complete this series. Regardless, if you need a beach read, this series would be it.

Another amazing, must have book from Erin McCarthys blurred lines series. Loved this book. Highly recommend it. Loved reading about Anya and Kane.
Anya has nowhere to go with no money and a baby. She has to get to her twin sister for help. But runs into Kane first. Kane is a cop. But has trust issues. Actually they both do. Can they let their guard down for once to let love in.

The fifth book in Erin's series is Anya's story! Life has been tough on Anya and she is very wary of love. Enter Kane.....wow...hot cop alert! He is just the Alpha male that Anya needs to show her love, trust & hope! Thank you for sharing the stories in your head Erin!!!! You are on my Must Read List!!

I'm not sure what I was expecting this story to be like, or how I would feel about it when I first picked it up. It has been on my TBR for a while, and it fit a challenge that I was working on, so decided now was the time. It was surprisingly tame for the heavy topics that were involved in it. As with a lot of other books that I've read this month, I felt like in the second half of the book, there were a lot of things that happened off page and in between time jumps. I feel like it would have been better had they been included for us to read about at the time they happened. And I wish we could have had more of Asher, he was almost never on page, and having him interact with Anya and Kane would have brought more to the story. The biggest issue for me was that the point of view changed without headers telling us who was speaking, sometimes at the chapter break, but also mid-chapter. Besides that, it was a nice story, way more light and contemporary than I'm used to or like. I am mildly interested in reading the stories for the side characters.

I liked Anya the girl was fierce, strong, and proud, “let me give you some money at least, so you can get a few things.” I pulled out my wallet. I had forty in cash and I tried to hand it to her. She physically took a step back." Kane is a man with an agenda, “I’m going to go get a condom and let you finish your pizza. Then yes, I will do you with my delicious ***k.” I liked this book, I loved Kane.

Male and female pov

Main characters: Anya and Kane
Minor characters: Chloe (Anya's sister), Ethan (Chloe's boyfriend)

I think this was the best book of the series, format wise. It was told in dual pov which made it so much better. Anytime it felt like a character was skipping stuff it would switch to the other characters pov and it would pick right back up. The pacing was improved. The storyline still had a few far fetched elements but overall it was good.

Synopsis:
Anya has had a hard life. She was adopted separate from her twin Chloe in Russia as a child and then returned to foster care. She's always felt inadequate and unworthy.

She has a son named Asher whose father died from a heroin overdose while she was pregnant. She was living in New York but she was struggling. Her ex's drug dealer (Diego) makes her an offer so she can get her ex cremated. He gives her money for the cremation and offers to sell her baby for money. She accepts both but leaves the city before handing over the baby. (She never planned to give up her son)

She runs away from New York by bus on her way to Chloe's house in Maine. When she gets there she leaves her purse and phone on the bus. She has no money so she steals some baby food. Kane is an off duty cop who sees her. He tries to get her to go back in but she passes out due to lack of food.

Kane feels drawn to her and gives her money for food and tries to give her a ride. She accepts the money but not the ride. He gives her his phone number and asks her to call him when she gets to her sisters house.

She gets to Chloe's house and decides she needs to pay Kane back. She thinks she can seduce him to get him to offer her protection from Diego. She flirts with him and they make an arrangement for her to clean for him to pay him back for loaning her money.

She goes to his house and they end up sleeping together. They make plans for her to go back the next morning. They sleep together again and she panics in the middle of it. She's not used to people being nice to her.

They stop talking and they're both mad the other isn't talking to them. He's out at a bar and texts her a message about pulling her hair when they slept together. They fight and she confesses that she likes him and it scares her. He deletes the message without reading it.

He sees her at the park and stops to talk to her. He tells her he didn't read the message and she tells him in person. They decide to date. Ethan warns Kane that he has to be fully invested in Anya or things won't work out. They end up back at his place and she tells him about Diego.

They date for a few weeks and he takes her to meet his family. She feels inadequate and questions why he's settling for her when he can do so much better. She decides to pay Diego back so she'll be a better person for him. She leaves for New York without telling him.

He finds out she's missing and gets upset. Kane's father walked out on his family and he resents him. When she does the same he gets upset with her, but he's also concerned for her safety. He gets in touch with her and she tells him her plan to pay Diego back in New York. He tells her to come back and she refuses.

In New York she gives Diego back the money she owed him hoping that'll make him forget about her baby. He lets it go but gives her a Baggie of drugs. When she's leaving she gets arrested by the cops. She calls Kane to bail her out and he comes. They get into a fight and break up. Her case gets thrown out in court and they drive home in silence.

On the way home she's upset and he apologizes. He tells her he wants to be with her but they have to trust each other more. They reconcile and move in together. She gets pregnant again and he's happy.

Oh my goodness this was one of my favorite books. I was so looking forward to reading this book after the last one. We learn about Anya in the previous book and i couldn't wait to read more about her in this book.

Anya has lived a tough life after her rough start as a child in Russia to her rough childhood when she was bounced between foster homes and eventually she decide to runaway on to live on her own as a teenager . Since having a child she has made choices to scrape by to keep her child feed and a house over there heads. So Anya decides she is going to head to her sisters with the little items she has after she gets evicted out her last place she lived and hope she takes her in .

Along the way Anya she meets Kane in the most unexpected of places as she is stealing baby food to feed her child. Kane decides he is going to help her and not not bust her even though he is a cop. He thinks there is something special about her. After this incident at the store Anya and Kane begin to start spending more time together they have an instant attraction and know they have to figure this out. But can Kane handle the many times that Anya tries to pull aways scared as there relationship builds.

i want everyone to read this book. Its about rooting for the underdog and taking care of others and not giving up on them even when they push you away. i think thats an amazing message.

I received this as an ARC from the AUTHOR.

Amazing read! This is the 5th book in Erin McCarthy's Blurred Lines series. I love how the series keeps evolving. You still get to see older characters you have previously read about in the first four books, which I love, however, she is always bringing new characters and future paths to the series.

In this book we get to truly know Anya Strange-Chloe's twin sister- and Kane Dermott, a local cop. Anya had a rough life, being abandoned, separated from her sister and not having the best adoptive family. Where as Kane grew up with a loving mother and 5 brothers and sisters. How they grew up has shaped them into the people they are now. Anya feels alone in the world and that everyone is only out to get something from her. Kane, being a cop, knows that they are bad people and bad things in the world but he only wants to make things better.

Anya and Kane get off to a little bit of a rocky start, mostly due to her trust and abandonment issues. I love watching the story progress and Kane slowly showing Anya that its okay to trust people. That she doesn’t always have to be alone.

Breathe Me In is the fifth book in Erin McCarthy's Blurred Line series. It features Anya from book four. It can be read as a standalone, but to truly appreciate how far Anya has come and all the more detail of her and her twin sister's past, would be beneficial to read the prior book. I liked this book very much, I liked the interactions between Anya and Kane, as well as each characters introspective look at themselves. To love Anya, or even take the chance to like her, could only be someone like Kane, a nurturing defender of the lost soul personality. Ms McCarthy writes quirky romances well, and can alternate the story from multiple points of view and not confuse the reader. This is not one of her more humorous light reads, it has more serious conflicts for the characters to deal with. There is fast hard sex, language, and features a tattooed multi pierced not easy to love heroine that didn't do well as a foster child, if any of these cause any triggers of these things for you, I'll warn you now. I'm looking forward to the next story in this series, and wonder who it will feature.

Clash of the titans

Yeah, big emotional titans that held both Anya and Kane in their grip. Both had abandonment issues, both were trying to be faithful to their own sense of personal morality, both wanted to be better than they perceived themselves to be. They met under the worst circumstances, as cop and a shoplifter, and their trust issues remained the giant elephant in the living room for the first weeks of their relationship. And those concerns stubbornly entrenched at the core of this novel. While I could wish it was longer, seeing how I enjoyed getting to know these characters, the intensity level was such that perhaps it was just long enough. At any rate, it is a wonderful story and one I feel is every bit a testimony to McCarthy's writing expertise and the kind of story she seems to enjoy telling. If it is the last book in the series, I'll be sorry to see it end. It's been a very good reading experience.

a really good story. however, why not go look for the purse? not EVERYBODY steals money from a lost purse. also, would have liked to begin to see some resolution for Chloe's speech problem since it was based on telling her not to talk about her sister. the beginning of Anya and Kane's relationship was pretty funny: he was imagining all the ways she might be planning to rip him off; she was just looking to cop some protection (aren't we all?). it is highly highly unlikely that her custody of her son would be in question. courts/cps do not WANT to remove children from homes. only if the child is not being cared for or if the child is probably in danger. this was totally not the case. also, some time should have been spent on finding Anya's offcial identity. it's sort of like EM ran out of time so she just finished the book. but still a very good story.

I enjoyed this 5th book in the Blurred Lines Series. It introduced new characters but kept those from the last book too. It blended the characters lives so well it was like reading another chapter in the same book the way the books of this series worked. Anya is the twin to Chloe from book 4 and she was in an orphanage and adopted but was deemed a difficult child and bounced around the system. She has never felt like she deserved things in life. She now finds herself seeking out her twin for a place to stay for a bit until she can get the money to move on. She loves her son Asher and after his father od's and dies Anya is left to fend for herself and take care of some of his drug debts. So she is running, hiding from the drug dealer her boyfriend owed money to before he died. She meets Kane, the local policeman in Portland, Maine. He tries to help her out but she is very independent and a spitfire which only attracts him to her more. The story follows their developing friendship and how each has to learn to trust the other before they can move further in their relationship with each other. Great story.

Anya Strange was adopted from Russia as a child, but was rejected a year later, deemed a difficult child. After a life of bouncing from foster home to foster home Anya is living in East Village and barely scraping by. And she will do anything to keep a roof over her head and that of her baby. And that includes going to see the sister she did not know she had.
Kane Dermott doesn’t want to bust the pierced and sexy woman stealing at the grocery store, but neither does he want to help her or believe her sob story. Being a cop and the oldest of six siblings with a single mom, he’s always the one doing the right thing. The one everyone depends on. The good guy. Anya is more then willing to seduce Kane and hopefully keep herself and her son safe. but feelings develop along the line and now its up to both of them to see if they can make this work.

Woah, so the Hero is not a hero- he uses the heroine. She is in a bad spot and he takes advantage of that. Sure, she offers but he is a cop, he has money - she is broke and has no job. Dislike. Immediately.

Oh, and did I mention the lack of consent? The heroine tells the hero NO in the bedroom but haha, not that he cares. After all, he can see that she likes it. Said every rapist.

Other than that, Asher does not play a big enough role.

Writing style? Lacking. Guess my reading habit has changed a bit cause I really was not that into this one…

In Breathe Me In, the fifth installment of Erin McCarthy’s Blurred Lines Series, the reader is introduced to Kane and becomes better acquainted with Anya-Chloe’s twin sister from Meant for Me (please note, although you can read Breathe Me In as a stand alone novel, I believe that Anya's story is even more compelling having known her history and that of Chloe's). While we only had a brief encounter with Anya in Meant for Me, this reader has been quite curious to read Anya's story and understand why she was so horrible to Chloe, if her life could have been much worse then some of the other characters in this amazing series, how did those experiences shape her, and could her story move me like the other characters’ stories. Yes...yes it did.

Anya is a multi-layered character trying to survive and raise her son, hoping to understand how to love and support another person when she herself has never really experienced love or had anyone to lean on. And, each time I thought I understood her, I discovered another trait, learned another flaw, and was moved by another emotion. Kane is just an all-around amazing person, who is likely too trusting, too kind, and too open-minded for his own good. He is a wonderful character - authoritative, strong, and determined, but still also compassionate, loving, and vulnerable. He also has his triggers, and Anya pushes them - sometimes intentionally, and sometimes not.

This couple felt real. They were not perfect by any means, they miscommunicated with and misunderstood each other, and sometimes they had to admit they were wrong and had to force themselves to trust the other. They illustrated how hard relationships usually are to maintain and how worthwhile they can be if you truly participate and work at them.

Erin McCarthy has done it again-not that I ever doubted her. The Blurred Lines Series is my favorite to date.

I received this book for free in exchange for a honest review.

When lies are truth and truths are lies, sometimes only love is the answer . . .

Breathe Me In is the fifth book in the Blurred Lines series by Erin McCarthy; but no worries, you can read it without having to read the first four. The characters from the previous books are covered in a way you can pick up their story lines. However, I'd recommend reading all the books in the series, none of them are overlong and each book really sets the stage for the ones that follow.

Breathe Me In is the continuation of Anya's story; who we previously met in Meant For Me. Anya is a single mom who finds herself homeless, jobless, and penniless. While on her way to seek help from her twin sister Chloe, she meets Kane, a true knight-in-shining-armor. Though they have an instant connection, their pasts have shaped them into the people who view life and relationships in very different ways. Anya, with no ability to trust in anyone, but her own fierce self-reliance to support her son. Kane, always the good guy who does the right thing, that everyone can rely on. Can Anya let go of her past and learn to trust and believe in Kane? Can Kane reach through Anya's wall and show her what they could have before she pushes him away for good?

It's a quick read and a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Favourite Quote: It felt like she could breathe me in. That she could just take one deep pull of air with her lungs and swallow me whole. Maybe she already had.

Breathe Me In is the fifth book in the Blurred Line Series by Erin McCarthy. It is a poignant romance about finding love and acceptance filled with Erin's trademark humor and engaging dialogue. This is an amazing story of overcoming personal tragedy and disappointment, to find that life gives second chances.

The complexity of the main character, Anya, is what makes this story believable. Abandoned by her birth parents, separated from her twin, rejected by her adoptive family; fate has dealt Anya blow after blow. One would think that life would have scrubbed away any chance for her to develop meaningful relationships and that she'd end up just another attachment disorder statistic. When one first meets Anya, in the previous Blurred Lines novel, Meant for Me, one fears that this might be the case.

But from the opening chapter, it is obvious that she is capable of a fierce and loyal love. She will do anything to protect her infant son, and it is by witnessing her as a mother that we see the person that she truly is, not who circumstance has forced her to to pretend to be.

I loved watching Anya go from simply surviving, to actually living, with the help of the handsome hero, Kane. There were sweet moments as well as steamy ones, and I was rooting for them from the first chapter.

I received this book as an ARC from the Author for my honest review

I am a huge fan of Erin McCarthy and I have read every book that she has written. She has the ability to make you believe that love still exists, that anyone can be redeemed and deserves love. This book is one of the funniest stories of the 5 in the series, which is great because there are moments that are also really sad and heartbreaking so it helps to keep everything very well balanced out.

This book right now is selling for 3.99 which I think is a great price, I honestly believe that it is worth much more. If you want a funny romance about a couple with a dark past and rocky future together than this is the book for you. McCarthy holds no punches with this book she takes you along on a the journey that is Anya and Kane and you will enjoy every second of it!

Anya is on the run looking for a safe place to take care of her child, completely out of options she turns to her long lost sister. While trying to use her 5 finger discount to get some items for her child Anya is caught red handed by a sexy off duty officer and falls, in more ways than you can imagine, for Kane right away.

Kane is used to being the hero and he is not sure he wants to put back on his cape and save Anya; but there is something Anya he cant just walk away from.
Luckily for us we get a front row seat to everything!

Breathe Me In is the fifth book in the Blurred Lines Series. It is a NA book with all of the angst and drama that go along with a young person's life.
Anya hasn't had it easy since she and her twin sister were both adopted as young children. Chloe found her forever home, but Anya's adoption didn't workout and she was then passed from foster home to foster home until she ran away to live on the streets.
Now she and her infant son Asher were on the run. With nowhere to go she found herself seeking out Chloe and Ethan after telling them she wanted nothing to do with them. Making the trip with none of their belongings and losing her purse she resorts to stealing food for her son.
Kane a young off duty cop sees Anya take food for her baby and leave without paying. He doesn't want this to go bad for anyone so he follows her out hoping to talk her into giving the food back so he doesn't have to call it in. Kane sees something in Anya that makes him want to get to know her better, but Anya is standoffish and keeps her guard up.
Kane's consistent pushing and Anya finally letting her guard down just enough for Kane to prove he's a nice guy and wants to have a relationship her. Anya lets him in.

I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Breathe me in is the fifth book of this series, you get to meet anya and hear her side of the life she was given, adopted from Russia one of a twin, anya didn't find her happy home, she had a hard life and ended up going from foster home after another. After thinking she'd found some balance with her boyfriend Sam it was all destroyed when Sam overdosed leaving anya with a child and her owing a drug dealer, hitting rock bottom she goes to find her sister Chloe, knowing she could not be welcome after there last meeting anya knowing she has no choice but to try.
Kane someone who just can't help himself but care for those with less than him sees a young mum steal baby food for her son, she looks very tired and looks like she needs to eat too. Being there at the right time to catch anya as she collapses from exhaustion, Kane knows he can't let her go.
Even though they both doing know each other they are happy to use the sexual tension between them both scared to commit, but I loved that in the end they both work though there troubled past and find true love. I have lived the whole series and enjoyed seeing everyone grow throughout the books. Theres not one Erin McCarthy book I haven't not liked.
