You’re Doing It Wrong: Dump the Myths, Misconceptions, and Bad Advice You Believe

Rate this book
Ever see those posts on social media about using your headrest to escape a sinking vehicle? Or to change your voicemail if lost? Ever use hydrogen peroxide to clean a wound? Or even day to day stuff like a plastic cutting board being more hygienic than wood? Does coffee dehydrate you? We're doing it wrong. There are over 130 entries setting us straight. Including the last entry which people still believe is true about decades after it was first shown to be false.

Right now, someone is hesitating to apply a tourniquet because they're afraid of costing a person their limb. Someone is waiting 24 hours to report a missing person because they think the law requires it. Someone is leaving a sleepwalker alone near a staircase because they think waking them is dangerous. Someone is stopping chest compressions to attempt rescue breaths that aren't required. Someone heard about a lost person drinking urine, not realizing what survivor bias is.

Every one of them is wrong. Some of them are watching someone die because of it.

You WILL find things you believe in this book and learn why they are wrong.

These aren't trivia. The missing persons rule has never existed. The sleepwalker rule has no medical basis. The brown bottle in your medicine cabinet may be making things worse. The CPR guidance most people learned has been revised — and the old version has cost lives. Other entries cover everything from the kitchen habits working against you to the history your teachers got wrong to the psychology research that explains why your instincts are systematically, predictably wrong.

New York Times bestselling author Bob Mayer brings Special Forces after-action discipline to the information you carry every day. The goal isn't distrust. It's recalibration.

Being wrong isn't a character flaw. Staying wrong after you know better is.

Start correcting.

So Much for Conventional Wisdom

Why do we do so many things just because we've always done it that way? Bob busts some old wisdom with new facts and reasons to do things differently.

My biggest take away - Ice relieves pain but heat promotes healing.

so you think you are smarter than most, we get it.

Not at marketing.
Starting by insulting your readers is an incredible level of arrogance.
Good luck Bob.
Been fun.
Too bad it is hard to delete a book once written.
