This book brought a pioneer family to life. The approach was innovative. The author took original material from the family and captured the people and places as real characters like a novel. Nothing was fictional though.
I really liked the chapter “What Ruth Left Behind”. It was very heartfelt for her point of view. It made me a bit emotional. Appreciated that the author considered the female point of view. Women often get a secondary role in stories like this.
I found myself thinking about how I would have fared back in this time. Would I have had the persistence to make it work so far from where I grew up?
