I am a fan of the Wine Country Mysteries and have read them all. When checking for anything else by Ellen Crosby, came across this. It is a really, really good read, suspenseful, a pretty good glimpse of Moscow, and, most always, a book you don't want to put down. There are two other Ellen Crosby's that are not part of the Wine Country series that are equally compelling. Absolutely recommend this one to anyone who enjoys mystery with suspense that is neither grisly nor nightmare making, just continually engaging.
I’ve read her collection of wine series, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. It took me a while to get into Moscow Nights. After the the first few chapters, I started to enjoy the book.
Ellen Crosby is a fun writer. I have read and enjoyed all of her Virginia Wine books (6). This past year she wrote a different kind of story based on her life before she settled in Virginia. I heard her speak about her book and the writing of her very first novel. This is Moscow Nights and I just finished it.
I actually rate this a 3.5 because I see so much potential in writer. The idea of the story was awesome, stolen art treasures from WWII, a fun topic after reading and watching Museum Men this past summer! The story takes place in Moscow and involves a group of news correspondents in the city pre wall coming don. Crosby knows Moscow, this is so vivid, she knows the people and how things work, weather, travel, housing, foods - she writes it passionately and I loved all of that. I thought that there were maybe too many characters and a sub plot, involving her family that seemed too much for this book, but may have crossover for future stories that were not written.
