In 1974 Bill Powers’ life was simple, ordinary, and working as a carpenter was what he enjoyed. After losing his wife he left Rhode Island in the rearview mirror and moved to New Hampshire.

Elijah Hearst lived by a code of honor and integrity that few men did. He also knew Bobby Hubble, the man convicted of killing his brother. At the end of serving eight years in Cedar Junction Prison, Bobby was now a changed man, or was he?

New friendships will develop, love will emerge, and acts of deceit will not go unpunished as lives cross over the granite state.

I received a free copy for a review via Thebookclub on Facebook. I really enjoyed this quick short read. It was like watching an episode of a 1970's American cop show, removed from real life without being entirely unbelievable. I felt that it was well paced and well-written but being a short story it didn't really explain some of the things I wanted to know. However I felt the characters were, within the setting, reasonably well developed and the whole thing was very evocative of its time and place. If you don't like scenes with descriptions of drug use or violence then this may not be for you but I would definitely read more from this author.

I was given a copy of this via Thebookclub, and asked for an honest review. Having lived my 30's through the 70's, and on the east coast, this story was right up my alley. Right off the bat I felt the story was very engaging and reflective of the 70's, well written with effective pop-culture references sprinkled in and diverse characters. Having been to New Hampshire a few times, the location was easily pictured and the description was right on key. Although "8-Track" is dark at times, the pacing of the story makes you want to read, at times I wanted more and never bores. I highly recommend this book and would certainly read more by this author.

I received an advance copy of this book through the book club. I kind of enjoyed the book and the writing style with musical references, but for me it was just too short and I had a lot of unanswered questions.
