In the town of Drummers, some lives are chosen long before they are lived.

Brady Williams has always known who he’s supposed to be—the quarterback, the golden boy, the future everyone expects. But expectations can feel like cages, and lately the life laid out before him feels less like a dream and more like a sentence.
Jade Cavendish has spent her life bound to a world shaped by rules she didn’t write and powers she never chose. Every move promises a fresh start, but the shadows of her fate follow anyway. Arriving in Drummers is no different—just another place to stay invisible while the darkness meant for her quietly closes in.

When Brady and Jade’s worlds collide, they realize their paths are different, but their prisons are shared. In a town where nothing goes unseen and every future feels predetermined, what grows between them is both a refuge and a risk. To be together, they must hide pieces of themselves from the worlds that claim them—and decide how much they are willing to sacrifice not just for freedom, but for each other.

Because in Drummers, falling doesn’t just change your life.

It can cost you everything.

Tom Ormondroyd is a fiction writer and the author of Jaded Falls, the first book in the Jaded Series. His work blends small-town mystery, supernatural elements, and emotionally grounded characters, exploring themes of identity, fate, and the tension between the lives we’re given and the ones we choose.

Storytelling has been part of his life from an early age, when he would write short stories each week for his grandmother—who always believed he would one day become a novelist. Years later, that belief found its way back to him, inspiring the idea for Jaded Falls and a return to writing that has continued ever since.

Outside of writing, Tom spends his career as a business executive and enjoys building new ideas, reading, and time with his family. He lives in North Carolina with his wife, two children, and three dogs.

It's so fun to read a new author but when you know the author and family personally, the experience is even cooler! I devoured Jaded Falls by Tom Ormondroyd in a day! A perfect read for young adults or older craving a coming of age story revolving around forbidden relationships, self discovery and healing from the past. It had just enough drama, mystery, magic and real life scenarios to have you reading page after page, ready for more!

Brady is not your typical starting quarterback from a small town. Sure he's got the looks, the wealthy family and everything going for him. Under the surface, he's trying to find his own path of following what Dad wants for him vs. what he wants for himself. His sister, Beth recently died of cancer and the family is having a hard time moving on from it. The family is really good at stuffing emotions down, as we all can. The image he's trying to keep for himself is proving to be difficult but what he doesn't know is that he'll find his path from an unlikely source, Jade.

When you first meet Jade, think of the Sanderson sisters plus Twilight. Her story is unique without needing so much detail you get overwhelmed that the typical fantasy world building needs. A darker character, with the hidden identity at first as a witch, she and her 2 adopted sisters, disturb the suburbia vibe with their emo looks and dark tendencies. Beneath her dark exterior though, Jade makes the ultimate sacrifice of being friends with someone not of her kind. From this forbidden relationship, the story gets really interesting with learning a lot more of the back story behind both main characters, their families and the worlds they're trying to bring together. No spoilers here as you have to read this for yourself to find out what becomes of a teen jock and a teen witch.

Tom's debut novel did not disappoint. The writing was descriptive and detailed, easy to read and so creative in terms of storyline. I am excited for book 2 to come out to return to Brady, Jade and their families. Solid 4 stars!

Great Read!

Jaded Falls was an incredibly enjoyable read from start to finish. What begins as the story of a high school star quarterback unexpectedly falling for the most unpredictable, and quietly mysterious, girl in school quickly evolves into something much deeper.

The first several chapters do an excellent job of building the world and introducing the characters in a way that makes you genuinely invested in their journey. The pacing is deliberate early on, but it’s time well spent because once the story really takes off around Chapter 10, I honestly couldn’t put it down.

The author does a great job balancing romance, mystery, and suspense while creating characters you can’t help but root for. Every chapter kept me wanting to know what would happen next, and by the time I reached the ending, I was already wishing I had the next book in my hands.

If the ending is any indication, I’m sincerely hoping this is only the beginning of the series. I would gladly follow Brady and Jade’s story wherever it goes next. A fantastic debut, and one I would absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys young adult romance with mystery and supernatural twists.

What a great read I was immediately drawn in and couldn't put the book down! Can't wait for the next 2 books in the series! Hoping this author writes other books. I haven't read a book in quite some time where I could envision the scene playing in my mind like a movie. Great job!

Jaded Falls by Tom Ormondroyd is a sweet young adult romance set against the backdrop of family expectations, small-town pressures, and two teenagers from very different worlds.

Readers should not be discouraged by the slower opening chapters. Once the world expands through the eyes of the main character, Brady, the story finds its footing and becomes a compelling blend of romance, self-discovery, and mystery.

Brady and Jade could not be more different. Brady is the town's star quarterback, carrying the expectations of his family and community on his shoulders. Everyone knows him, watches him, and has an opinion about the future they believe he should have. Jade, meanwhile, is a goth outsider whose family is shrouded in mystery. While Brady's life is lived publicly, Jade's remains largely hidden.

What makes the romance work is not simply their differences but the pressures both characters face. Brady is drawn to Jade because she represents something outside the carefully planned life his parents envision for him. Their relationship feels authentic, tender, and age-appropriate, capturing the uncertainty and excitement of first love. Readers expecting the intensity of adult romance should adjust their expectations. This story succeeds because it embraces the sweetness and vulnerability of young love rather than trying to force emotional drama beyond its characters' ages.

The novel also incorporates intriguing dark magic undertones that add another layer to the story. These elements help elevate the narrative beyond a straightforward romance and create a sense of mystery surrounding Jade and her family.

My one criticism involves the parents. Both Brady and Jade face significant challenges because of the adults in their lives, and I found myself wishing there had been more accountability for some of their actions. At times, the consequences felt too light compared to the impact their decisions had on the teenagers.

Overall, Jaded Falls is a charming YA romance with relatable characters, family conflict, and just enough supernatural intrigue to keep readers invested. It is a thoughtful story about identity, expectations, and finding the courage to follow your own path.

📕 Jaded Falls
✍️ Author: "Tom Ormondroyd"
📚Book Review: Tom Ormondroyd's Jaded Falls is a masterfully written book that combines mystery, romance, and paranormal intrigue into an intensely moving and engrossing tale. The novel, which is set in the seemingly typical town of Drummers, examines the burden of expectations, the quest for identity, and the bravery required to defy a predestined future. Jade Cavendish, a mysterious newcomer burdened by powers and secrets beyond her control, and Brady Williams, the town's renowned quarterback, are compelling protagonists whose journeys resonate with authenticity and heart. Ormondroyd deftly creates tension as their lives converge while delving into themes of sacrifice, fate, and the transformational potential of love. An engrossing reading experience that keeps the pages turning is produced by the atmospheric setting, multi-layered storytelling, and emotionally complex character development. The story is thought-provoking and hard to put down, with new tensions and unexpected revelations revealed in every chapter. For readers who appreciate character-driven fiction with supernatural elements and passionate romance, Jaded Falls is a great option. This book is definitely worth purchasing and adding to your collection if you're searching for an unforgettable book full of emotion, suspense, and memorable storytelling.

Brady Williams is the golden boy of Drummers High, but beneath the surface he’s suffocating. His father’s control and the shadow of Beth’s death leave him restless, desperate to escape the single path laid out for him. The opening chapters capture this ache vividly, showing how privilege can feel like a prison when grief and expectation collide. Brady’s search for freedom is the heartbeat of the novel.

Then comes Jade Cavendish, mysterious and untouchable, with her sisters Harper and Sage. Their decaying Victorian house and the whispered warning “Stay away” set the gothic tone that defines the book. Jade’s presence is magnetic yet unsettling, pulling Brady into a world where love is inseparable from danger. The tension between his football glory and her shadowed life makes every encounter feel cinematic and charged with risk.

By the time the stadium lights blaze, Brady’s world is split between the roar of the crowd and the quiet pull of Jade’s secrets. Ormondroyd blends teenage drama with supernatural suspense, weaving themes of grief, rebellion, and fate. Jaded Falls is more than a romance — it’s a story about breaking free from the life others choose for you, even when the unknown feels terrifying. Vivid, emotional, and haunting, it’s a series opener that lingers long after the last page.

I don’t normally read books from this genre (or mix of genres, depending on how granular you want to get) but I wanted to give it a try anyway. This is one of those times I’m glad I tried something new. I genuinely enjoyed Jaded Falls. The story held my attention the whole way through and the pace continually picked up, which is what I like from a fictional novel. I also appreciate having characters you can root for, rather than an anti-hero (eg Breaking Bad) or worse an entire cast of reprehensible people (a-la Mad Men) - leaving you no framework to decide what outcome to hope for. You will care about how the story ends and what happens to Jade and Brady, because they’re worth rooting for (in my opinion). I’m looking forward to where the story goes from here.

'When Brady and Jade’s worlds collide, buried secrets begin to surface, forcing them to question everything they thought they knew about their families, their futures, and themselves. As darkness closes in around their secret, they’ll have to decide whether risking everything for each other is worth the price.'

The characters were very appealing and complex and complicated. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and expertly drawn. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

This is a story that will unleash several emotions, from frustration to heart warming feelings.

The story is very well written en the character building is great, detailed!

The forbidden love is something that attracts… something you can’t have is mostly the thing that is the most attractive in the world…

I’ve enjoyed reading this book. It made me think about Twilight but in its one unique way!.

I really enjoyed the contrast between Brady and Jade and how both are trapped by expectations in completely different ways. Their relationship felt meaningful beyond the romance, and the small-town supernatural atmosphere kept me curious. Some parts felt familiar for YA fantasy, but overall, a compelling read with plenty of emotion and mystery. 4.5/5 ⭐️
