Follow the career path that took Bill Gates from being a Harvard drop-out to one of the wealthiest men in the world, and learn how to think like the genius businessman himself
A household name for his role in the founding of ubiquitous computer software company Microsoft, Bill Gates is one of the world's great businessmen. Brought up to compete rigorously in all areas of his life, he dropped out of Harvard in 1975 to follow his dream of starting his own firm. He formed "Micro-Soft" and set about coding his way to the top. But creating software language was just the beginning of a journey that would eventually see Gates become the wealthiest man in the world. He not only knew how to develop a product, but was great at selling it too, becoming a figurehead of the staid but booming corporate America. In recent years, Gates turned away from the computer screen to combat injustices in the world, channeling huge amounts of his personal fortune into the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a body whose operations are changing the way the charity sector goes about its business. How to Think Like Bill Gates reveals the key motivations, decisions, and philosophies that made Gates a name synonymous with success. Studying how he honed his business acumen, faced down all competitors, overcame adversity, and stood strong in the face of overwhelming odds, with quotes and passages by and about him, you too can learn to think like Bill Gates.
Можливо тому що я читала біографію Стіва Джонса, можливо ні, але 1-у половину книги наче читала те, що вже знаю, затягнута дуже, і одне і те саме по колу, вже десь остання 3-я частина доволі цікаво про філантропію.
This book allowed us to discover more about the mind and life of one of the great figures in modern history, Bill Gates. One of the quotes I like, " I can do any-thing I set my mind to" should tell us a lot about this intense, very ambitious, competitive, crazy workaholic and yet humble and wise when he become older. Starting his mark in the world as a computer scientist turn one hell of a sharp businessman, then later a philantropist, make us wonder is it possible for someone to achieve a lot like he did? It turns out it is not impossible to achieve anything you want as long as you willing to take the necessary steps and calculative strategy along with persistent mind, optimism and a trust for yourself. Just like he said, " Don't compare yourself with anyone in the world. If you do so, you are insulting yourself".

How to Think Like Bill Gates offers an insightful glimpse into the mindset and strategies that fueled Gates' success in technology and philanthropy. The book covers his early life, rise with Microsoft, and his impact on modern computing. It delves into his disciplined work ethic, critical thinking, and constant learning habits, as well as his competitive drive and approach to innovation. The narrative also highlights his philanthropic transformation and contributions through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, redefining him from a tech mogul to a global humanitarian. This book is an engaging read for anyone seeking inspiration from Gates' multifaceted life.
Strengths: The book excels in presenting Gates' disciplined work ethic and strategic thinking. It outlines how his keen analytical skills, competitive spirit, and lifelong learning drive his success. Readers gain valuable insights into his approach to problem-solving and innovation, which are applicable beyond the tech industry.
Weaknesses: However, the book sometimes overlooks the criticisms of Gates' methods, particularly during Microsoft's early years when aggressive tactics led to anti-trust issues. Additionally, it focuses heavily on his successes, offering limited insight into his personal challenges and any internal struggles.
An amazing book which provides insights about Bill's foundation of a firm (in the form of Microsoft) which provided platform for creating basic documents in a windows machine and then extending his valuable contribution towards world as well through philantropism but the striking feature you would obtain from this book is getting to know about the values through which this remarkable person has lived his life. I also obtained a rich collection of words through this book which really would spur my vocabulary enhancement. So, A Big Thanks to Daniel and I look forward to catch up his another book.
This was a great read from Daniel Smith. What is striking about it is that it captures how Gates has evolved in his approach to business, philanthropy, and work-life balance over the years (as Microsoft has been growing). It also provided a look into the Team that Gates has built and how they have contributed overally to the position Microsoft is now at. However i also expected Daniel to outline Bill's thought process as the Book suggests, ie, how does he really make decisions, what is his investment philosophy, etc Generally the book is a good read.
This book tells us about Bill Gates' life journey in general. How he could win the battle between computer companies is described in detail. Also his thinking pattern along with his tips to overcome the market needs. The complicated story between him and his best friend, Steve Jobs, who is also his competitor, is written in this book.
But overall, this book is just a must for people who want to think innovative, unstoppable, and competitive. I'd like to recommend this book to my startup friends.

I've read several books on Microsoft and Bill Gates and have enjoyed them all. What an amazing American success story! This was a quick, easy and enjoyable read. I liked some of the personal elements and facts I had not remembered hearing about before. Particularly his interactions with others - Paul Allen, Steve Ballmer, Steve Jobs, etc. - were interesting. His passion for reading and learning is inspiring. His leadership style leaves much to be desired but one cannot argue with the results and legacy. For $5 at Barnes & Noble, this was a nice pick up!
Very informative book. Tells the tale of different scenarios in Bill Gates' life and the decisions he made regarding the situations and how he went about doing things. Gives you a good perspective into the mind and thinking process of Bill Gates.
Good Read. Delivers what the title offers to explain.
I liked the writing style of the author Daniel Smith. And have wishlisted on Amazon to read next: How to think like Da Vinci & How to think like Sherlock Holmes.

Small book with brief information about Gates's life. Written in such a succinct writing style, this book gives you an opportunity to understand Gates. I guess, what I have learned from this book is that, his family background really plays an important role in making him who he is :)
I really enjoyed this book. It’s well written, clear, and refreshingly precise…exactly what I was looking for.
The insights into Bill Gates’s way of thinking felt focused and practical, without unnecessary rambling or filler. An engaging, informative read. Would recommend!
Um livro simples e acessível, muito baseado em entrevistas que Bill Gates à Playboy, ao que talvez um dia queira ler algo de alguém que tenha falado com ele directamente.
An amazing book which provides insights about Bill Gates & Melinda Gates foundation of a firm (in the form of Microsoft) which provided platform for creating basic documents in a windows machine and then extending his valuable contribution towards world as well through philanthropism.
My personal favorite chapter is “Give Something Back” where he clearly mentioning about giving back to the society which provides a lot more than ask.
“I believe that with great wealth comes great responsibility: a responsibility to give back to society, a responsibility to see that those resources are put to work in the best possible way to help those most in need”
