Checking the new releases and special offers of all the many books I would like to read I discovered this in-between the numbers WITSEC Town book. I was disappointed I had to take the entire box since it’s not available as a stand alone novella yet, but it was less then one Euro, so it was fine with me. The other two novellas sound pretty interesting to me so it's even likely I'll read them, too. :-)
#3: Sanctuary Hidden by Lisa Phillips (WITSEC Town Series 2.5) 4* 7/3/15 (100) - re-read: 2/1/22 Miami, Florida; Cyan Greene, Nate Mason, Daire O'Callahan; insta-love This book in series is not set in Sanctuary itself but the 'real world', mainly in Miami, Florida. The story line is following mostly Nate (the football-brother) and Cyan (former Sanctuary resident). One of the former residents and events from the second book are relevant for this one so I would recommend reading the both previous books (Sanctuary Lost and Sanctuary Buried) before you start this novella. The story and the characters are ok but not exceptional. Considering the length of the book and comparing with the previous there is really much going on - it's fortunately not really violent but seems to have much more pace and action - I liked it.
I don't want to punish the author for the mistakes made by the publisher I didn't consider the poor formatting of the book set and sticked to the four-star-rating. Until now there is no table of contents and only links to the chapters in the first book. If you want or need to skip the first book or navigate within the second and third you have a big problem. I'll report these problems via Amazon an expect they will be resolved soon, so I hope I can report some positive changes soon. :-) Edit 2/1/22: I'm so glad the issues from the last paragraph were taken care of. It's so much enjoyable to read a well formatted book. All in all it's still one of my favorite stories in series, though I've not continued this series yet.
#1: False Security by Angela Ruth Strong 3* 10/11/15 (112) - re-read: 11/4-5/21 (single book edition) Spokane, Washington; Alex Pierce, Laney Winters; enemies to lovers
#2: Framed Secrets by Heather Woodhaven 4* 10/13/15 (74) Perry, Indiana; Kathleen Wicks, Matt Kaplan
To be honest I only purchased this box set for the novella by Lisa Phillips. I have enjoyed reading the series and I am glad I finally have additional background on characters that h ave been discussed in previous books. Can't wait to hear how they continue this beautiful relationship in Sanctuary.
Suspense, grabs you as you read this collection some of my favorite authors. I love the well crafted plots, the characters amid interesting settings. This is a recommended read for lovers of romantic suspense.
False Security by Angela Ruth Strong *** I Liked It Short and sweet... interesting characters... chemistry and sparks between the lead characters... fun to read story...
Framed Secrets by Heather Woodhaven *** I Liked It Another sweet Romantic Suspense novella.
Sanctuary Hidden (WITSEC Town Series 2.5) by Lisa Phillips *** I Liked It I've read this before and enjoyed it, again, just like I did the first time. I think the entire series was good Romantic Suspense.
Novellas can sometimes lack depth and good character development, but I thought these books were pretty good. I loved Woodhaven’s the best. I do like action, so that was a plus in all the books.
I borrowed this as my monthly Kindle freebie as I'd enjoyed Lighten Up by Angela Ruth Strong. I enjoyed her novella and feel it was the strongest of the three here. She incorporates the faith element nicely - realistic, natural comments without preaching to her readers. I definitely prefer her more in-depth writing over this work, though. I give this one 2.5 stars.
I was less impressed with the other two. Framed Secrets was just cheesy - from the initial scenario to the outrageously escalating encounter with the bad guy. And Sanctuary Hidden was more of the same - it might have been more enjoyable if I were familiar with the series (and it's clearly written with the assumption that the reader knows about Sanctuary). I felt this novella in particular desperately needed a strong editor; the writing was choppy and just didn't flow well. I give both of these 1 star, and can't say I have any desire to read anything else from either author.
I always love novella collections because they're a great way to try out new authors. I really enjoyed all three stories. They had the perfect blend of romance, action and danger. I'll be looking for more from these authors.
This was a follow up to her last book Sanctuary. It was well written and it kept you wondering when the next character from the last book would be included. I enjoy Lisa Phillips' writing.
