⭐️4.5 Eeekkk I was honored to be able to ARC read this book and I cannot thank the author enough for the opportunity!!!! If you’ve haven’t read the first book yet, I highly recommend it! I loved the first book so much as a huge Star Wars fan and as a reader/writer with a particular weakness for shapeshifters as well! So without further ado let’s dive into it!!
Plot: Okie soo without spoiling the first book This Divine Moonfire starts off with a bang as These Starborn Secrets leaves our crew thrown for a loop and everything we thought we knew was a LIE!! It sets up the book with tons of juicy secrets, lots of lore and of course some steamy drama… I love when a book branches off into multiple storylines that are interconnected and woven together with lots of heart-stopping cliff hangers. I think the author did a really good job of knowing when to stop and pick up these different missions to make the book placed well and hold attention. Also, who doesn’t love epic lore?!? This book was full of it! My one critique of all this might be that there was so much lore that I couldn’t keep up and keep it straight. Hopefully things will be revisited later in book 3 so that I can catch up 😅 anyways, the world building in this series is soo unique and intriguing. I just wanted to jump into the book and see these incredible planets for myself!
Characters: Kai!!!! That’s it. That’s all I have to say. 😆 but seriously I love all these characters so much even though I have a few clear favorites 😅 I loved getting to see more of Darci’s POV in this book. It just made me fall in love her even more! I really hope that we get to see more of Newt’s pov next time 🤭 he’s
such a cutie pie 🥰 I was so sad we didn’t see more of Ander in this one (iykyk) but I understand why we didn’t. All of these characters have such complicated lives with the political intrigues and fights for survival but they are also so relatable with their feelings and mistakes. I LOVE when I can actually relate to characters despite our lives being so different 😆
Romance: we didn’t get as much romance in this book as in the first sadly but it was okay. Zeline and Luc are as cute as ever I really loved seeing the two of them grow their trust throughout this book. Also the yearning from a certain hellhound??? Yes please! 🥹😭
Age rating (spice, cussing, gore): there’s maybe just the teensest steamy scene at one point but nothing crazy at all. There’s not any overly gory moments that come to mind either. There is a medium amount of cursing if that kind of thing bothers you. Nothing too graphic though
I am already so excited for book 3 and I just know that it’s going to be epic! If you are looking for a sci-fi, high stakes, political secrets, love stories that’ll make you blush, and multi pov trilogy then this is absolutely the series for you!! ✨🪐💙

Oh my gosh, the way I DEVOURED this book. I had the honor of receiving it as an ARC, and I binge read the entire thing in one sitting the day I received it!
This is one of the few instances where the sequel lives up to and actually exceeds the first book, a truly rare accomplishment! I was blown away by the beautiful prose, the character growth, and the depth of worldbuilding and lore. I was truly glued to the page and could not put it down—I even skipped making dinner so I could keep reading!
Kendra is a master of timing. The characters were largely split into two groups in this book, and just when I was getting invested in one group’s quest, I’d be jolted by a cliffhanger and thrown into the next, desperate to get back to the crew I’d left on the previous page… then I’d get so engrossed in the parallel quest that I’d be dragged kicking and screaming back to the plot I had so desperately wanted to continue! I say this because it’s very rare for me that I find all the POVs equally intriguing, and even rarer for me to be equally invested in all the characters in a large multi-POV cast. But Kendra pulled it off so well, with breakneck pacing that kept me on the edge of my seat while still never feeling rushed or chaotic. Every chapter break, every POV switch, felt very intentional, designed to keep me invested—and for sure, I was invested!! In every character and every plot line!
Getting to connect with the characters on a deeper level in the wake of the tragedy where we left them in Book 1 sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions. After sacrificing himself to save his siblings and his mate, Ander Solost struggles to keep control of his mind while Kai faces the demons of her past to save him. Kai's character development was INSANE. She grew so much in this book and I loved it! Darci was even more fantastic now that her true identity was revealed, and I loved the newest addition to the team, Nyx, a siren from Zeline's past. I can't wait to see more of her! (Also, sorry Kendra, but Kai IS the main character now. More Kai please!!)
Special shoutout to Eden and Sophie, and I’m still eagerly waiting for the lore on both of them. I cannot wait to finally piece together the secrets behind these two vampires!
Also, the Cassiopeia Cluster lore?? I NEED more of the lore, it was so fun watching Luc and Zel delve into the secrets of their system's (and their families') past! The lore reminded me a lot of the Mortis arc of Clone Wars, and I won’t say too much because of spoilers, but I’m obsessed and I truly cannot wait to figure out how the Solost siblings and Kai relate to the prophecy! And I humbly petition for a prequel about the Solost parents and the previous generation… (iykyk)
Truly a wonderful sequel, I highly recommend it for fans of Crescent City who are looking for a romantasy x sci-fi mash up with shifters, vampires, ancient prophecies, and strong sibling bonds!

Such an incredible and strong sequel to TSS. I absolutely love all of these characters and their relationships, and the chaotic found family. The writing style is so fast paced and keeps the story going at a rapid and entertaining pace, while still making room for the emotional heart to heart moments that make you feel extra connected to these wonderfully crafted characters. TDM has the perfect blend of fantasy and sci-fi elements. 😍

Kendra has done it again. This book delivers in every way that a sequel should. The stakes are higher. the world's lore is explored deeper, and it's full of satisfying twists. It had me glued to the edge of my seat the entire read. I am a sucker for worldbuilding and this book is full of it. Kendra did a perfect job slowly revealing the information. I loved how you learned it with the characters. It just added that much more tension to the story! Speaking of characters, I absolutely adored them. I'm in love with Zeline and Luc. Any time they were on the page together was an absolute treat!

Niehaus definitely outdid herself with this second installment! All the galactic magic, intrigue, and adventure of These Starborn Secrets is not only maintained, but intensified as the characters face greater challenges than before. Ander and Kai take the spotlight, and I loved them even more this time around! But Darci, Zeline, Luc and the rest have more than their fair share of fascinating plot points to take us through. TDM outdid its predecessor with higher stakes, bigger reveals, and even more heart-wrenching twists. I cannot wait to see how this series continues!
