About the series:
The Shades of Humanity Trilogy is an action-packed sci-fi adventure about what it means to be human in a galaxy without them. Inspired by The Expanse, Firefly, and Halo, it features lovable thieves, diverse aliens, and just enough hard science to make it feel grounded without distracting from the story. The narrative that STOLEN GHOST begins continues with ROGUE SPIRIT and concludes with CRUEL PHANTOMS.

Comfortably settled into the Shades of Humanity universe, this second installment took me for a gallop across the galaxy. We learn more of Captain Abraxi and her crew’s history while jumping from one close escape to the next. The hints of recognizable “human” culture throughout give the reader a taste of the familiar while also reminding us of how different the cultures of this universe really are. A fitting middle-part of the trilogy!

I fell even more in love with the crew of the Dicey Duchess in this one! I think Tuula might be my favorite, but I love them all. We meet new characters too that were just as believable and well rounded as the crew.

It's so hard to give a review without spoilers, but the end has one of the most touching scenes ever. I had tears in my eyes as Ki does something kind for a crew member and shows so much humanity.

The crew infiltrates a fancy party to rescue someone. The crew is betrayed more than once! They discover new (old?) technology that has huge implications for the galaxy. So much action!

Myersmann has really hit his stride with this book as it's even better than the first!

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This books picks up shortly after the end of Stolen Ghost. The action in this book kept me on the edge of my seat, and I cried out at least three times at twists I didn’t see coming (but the seeds were all there!!). The characters are flawed and realistic, but relatable. I’m rooting for them in the final book of the trilogy, coming up soon on my TBR.

“…the whole galaxy is haunted by the shades of Humanity.”

Myersmann spins another beautiful story full of love for family (found and otherwise), attention-grabbing mysteries, and rip-roaring adventure. We pick up where we left off with the beloved crew of the Dicey Duchess as they are on the run from the major factions. Sprinkle in danger, piracy, some Oceans-style infiltration, and some dastardly new characters - leaving you in tears at the end. The quest for humans leaves the crew with way more than they expected, and sets up an amazing finale to come in the last book of the trilogy!
