World War Two: A Bare Bones History

Rate this book
In the early hours of 1st September, 1939, the big guns of the German battleship Schleswig-Holstein opened fire on the Polish garrison of Westerplatte. Adolf Hitler had ordered his armed forces into battle against Poland, and in doing so he sparked a wider conflict which would lead to the deaths of tens of millions of people and destruction on an unparalleled scale.

World War Two changed the world forever, brought about an unlikely alliance between a brutal communist dictator and the Western democracies, and ultimately left two of the world’s most powerful nations utterly defeated and at the mercy of the victors.

Written in an engaging and entertaining style, World War Two: A Bare Bones History is a fascinating short history of the most destructive war ever fought.

Barebones indeed

If you are unfamiliar with the war and just want a basic understanding then this is the book for you. Perhaps for the youngest among us that to my experience have very little understanding of this history changing event. Just really how close us later generations came to know the feeling of freedom we enjoy today. Thanks mostly to the maniac who started this mess and his self delusions we enjoy the world we have today because had things gone just a little bit different Germany certainly could have won that war.

A really good start

This is a good book for those looking for a quick, yet concise, story of the second world war. Of course there is much more to learn, but this is a great walk through, and it's even better as it dodges almost entirely the usual "good guys x bad guys" kind of story, giving the right merits and faults were they are deserved.

Good quick read

This book delivers on what it set out to do, it's a quick read and gives good info for someone interested in the subject. I read the book to brush up on my WWII history and it was well worth it.

Great easy refresher or introduction

Just the write amount of detail for a WWII refresher. Would also be a good easy read for a pre-teen to help spark their interest in history.
