An eternal love that has been through every storm, dragged into the dark abyss without a chance of climbing out, but through all the battles they find themselves in a place they call home, away from the darkness and away from the fear. With a glimmer of hope, they look directly into the light
Julian – Book 3 (companion novella) Julian Baker had it all. Stunning good looks, wealth, intelligence, and the girl. To everyone around him, he was Mr. Perfect. Fate was never on his side as he loses the girl and much like a domino effect, his life starts to spiral out of control. Behind the mask lies a broken man, taunted by his tragic past. In a bid to forget, he finds himself desperately trying to hold on to someone who is equally unattainable, Charlotte Edwards. In a last attempt to save himself, Julian reaches out for help and finds it in a sea of lost souls, all in the same boat, trying so hard to stay afloat in this cruel and tormented game called life. The universe has other plans when someone completely unexpected walks into his life and an unlikely friendship is formed. Will Julian find his piece of happiness or succumb to his old ways, falling in love with a woman who belongs to someone else at the wrath of his archenemy?
Adriana – Book 4 The vows were exchanged and Adriana had her whole life planned out. Marriage, babies and a fabulous career. Life was perfect, until the day the only man she had ever been with, the man who had stolen her heart at the tender age of seventeen, was taken away before his time. Desperate, angry and unable to heal, Adriana hits rock bottom and is forced to seek help for the sake of her son. What she doesn’t expect is a friendship from an unlikely source: Julian Baker, her best friend’s ex-fiancé. Julian is every bit the man she isn’t expecting to walk into her life. Intelligent, witty and extremely handsome. Their unique friendship soon turns into a forbidden relationship. As lovers, they form a bond that must remain hidden from their family and friends, but secrets can only be kept for so long.
Born and bred in Sydney Australia, Kat T. Masen is a mother to four crazy boys and wife to one sane husband. Growing up in a generation where social media and fancy gadgets didn’t exist, she enjoyed reading from an early age and found herself immersed in these stories. After meeting friends on twitter who loved to read as much as she did, her passion to write began and the friendships continued on despite the distance. “I’m known to be crazy and humorous. Show me the most random picture of a dog in a wig and I’ll be laughing for days.”
I had a real love/hate reaction to these books, being completely honest, book number one I almost gave up on reading, I hated the cheating! Ok Lex and Charlie were great characters BUT let’s be real, they were Both cheaters! They started off when Lex was quite newly married so he didn’t even try with his marriage, ok what Samantha did was totally out of order but come on he did it first and shut her out, and it being with a young girl who was his younger sisters best friend, and then Charlie was really even worse with Julian because she knew how it destroyed her and yet she did it to Julian and even kept him hanging until she made up her mind between them! So this didn’t sit right and I never give up on a book but almost did with this one, but I carried on because all the other characters were great, loved how their stories all interacted, from book 2 things got better, until chapter 25/26 where I absolutely sobbed throughout, I Loved Elijah and Adrianna, and their story and Julian was the one throughout that was the most captivating (I only use that word because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone) the last book was the best of the series(and it was a long series!) and this last book was what earned it 5 stars for me, I cried several times in this book, and of course the ending was perfect 👌😁
Ladies and gentlemen. If you're looking for a great love story and great characters and storyline overall, these books are not it! Go somewhere else and pick a different series.
Multiple perspectives (which get repetitive and confusing), cheating, more cheating, bickering (and not in a cute way), cancer death, tons of insecurities all around, and poor writing overall with only slight character development sums up these books. I got the boxed set of 6 books on Kindle unlimited and I'm on book #5 now. I wouldn't recommend this series to anyone but I'm not one to DNF a book and since the boxed set is like one book, I can not quit. Sigh. If I was that person, I would have quit before I finished book 1. Feel free to read my individual reviews for each book on why they don't rate high in my world... Only book 4 got 3 stars. The others all received 2 stars. I'm usually a 5 stars type of gal too!
I grabbed the box set because of all the mixed reviews and the promise of the forbidden love between a girl and her best friends married brother but “oh m gee” I was ready to throw my kindle out halfway through the first book. It started out well but the dual POV was like playing UNO. “Reverse, Reverse.” I would read a scene in the heroines POV and then It would switch to Lex who told us what happened all over again from his perspective. I got use to it though, but the bickering, childish behavior, cheating, and indecisiveness drove me crazy. But sadly that wasn’t the worst of it. Charlotte had this secret for the whole first book that was hinted at, but never revealed... not until halfway through the second book and to me..... that was the perfect place to end this story. That scene tied up everything nicely and if the author had of given a nice flash forward epilogue after, it would have been perfect, not to mention could have fit in one book if the repetition was edited out. Sadly, the story continued from Eric’s POV and back to them and Nikki. It was also unnecessary and dragged all the good points back to zero. I finally just gave up and skipped to the last chapter, which I never do, but after spending 3 days wading through most of it I was done. I gave this book 2 stars because that one scene and flashback was beautiful. So were most of the flashbacks.
Okay, let's start with the 1st book. It was tedious to get through. The POV changed almost every chapter, and at the beginning of every chapter, the new POV would re-tell the 2nd half of the last chapter. Then, there was the telling of the past, which would go on and on, so much so that when I'd get back to the present I'd had forgotten what was going on. Also, I think the editing could have been much better. The dates of Charlie's grandmother's death changed a few times, then in a flash back Charlie referred "Alex" to "Lex", when supposedly he was "Alex" until he later changed to "Lex", tedious, I know, but it bothered me. Now, the 2nd book, complete opposite. It rushed through the details so fast, it made my head spin. The chapter in Eric's POV, while maybe funny, was completely pointless and went on and on and on.... I liked Julian's and Adriana's books much better. I feel like it took me forever to finish this series, I think I kept getting bored with it. I just have to add, Lex got away with way more bullshit than I usually like my alpha to get away with. I was irritated with how easily everyone forgives him for his bullshit. This wasn't a great series, for me, but I could see how some may enjoy it.
Cheating is never right, but sometimes you read a story where you can kind of understand what drives someone to commit the ultimate betryal. Here I found Charlie utterly heartless and selfish. Instead of choosing to do the right thing when she cheats she justifies it and continues to lie. From that point on I found myself rooting for her fiance.
Charlie has moved on even though he still haunts her. She thought she met her future until he came back only this time he's not letting her go. She didn't mean to hurt Julian with her past. Her past, Lex's sister is finally getting her dream wedding but ends with heartache and a baby. Julian hits rock bottom and is slowly climbing back up when he meets someone he should walk away from but can't.
Wow. You know when you are about to start a book and you have to prepare yourself to get invested in it? I knew this would be one of those times. The characters were relatable and their stories were written in a way where you were so invested in them that you didn't know if you wanted to yell at them, love them, or anxiously keep reading! I truly enjoyed these books and definitely recommend.
3.5 because the dual POV was unnecessary and redundant. It made it hard to get through lots of the box set. Overall though I did like the characters and enjoyed how they were all woven together and we were able to see the continuous relationships evolve over time. Adrianna and Elijah’s story was definitely a tear jerker… 😢 I’m glad I read it but never need to do it again if that makes sense. (I do often reread my favs)
It was decent but my emotions weren’t engaged with it too much. I honestly kept getting annoyed with the two especially Lex. I literally wouldn’t have forgiven him for basically committing adultery. Though hers was emotional because Lex wasn’t treating her right I don’t blame her. He neglected and hurt her more and I would’ve left him.

I'm not one to normally leave a review but felt compelled. I read a lot and it's not often that a book leaves a big imprint, this series was amazing. I lived the continuation of the storyline from the different characters.... truly one of the best book series I have read!
This series was such an emotional ride. I loved Lex and Charlie!!! They were OBSESSED with each other in the best way. Struggled at first with Julian and Adriana but then fell in love with them also. Would love to read about Eric and Tristan
This was a very good (dark) romance. I loved all the books in this series. The characters are awesome and the stories are amazing as well. Definitely glad I invested to read the whole thing!!
One big bundle of emotions! I had a love hate relationship with this story and the characters. I was happy, angry, laughed, cried... thought about giving up on the series at times but felt emotionally invested. Haha. Definitely worth it.
I loved these books. It took me a little bit to get into it, but it’s nice I did I was hooked on the characters and had to know what was going to happen. Definitely recommend!
So many emotions through this series. I absolutely love Lex in the first 2 books but then I started to hate him through the next 1 and a half books. You will go through the whole gamut of emotions two or three times during this series but, it's totally worth it.
This is amazing. You really don't expect the last book at all. I'll be honest and took me a few days to read it again but I'm so glad I did. I totally cried
this series was brilliant it had me laughing, sobbing my heart out, tears joy tears of sadness, the author really had me hooked and i just couldnt put the book down.
Well that was a rollercoaster sad up lifting brave cannot put all the right words for this series it's just brilliant read for love caring losing depths of despair
Loved this series! Characters so real you feel for them, you go through everything with them. Amazing writer. Will definitely read her again. Thank you.
No. I do not like cheating and both were cheaters and tried justifying it. Absolutely not. I won't star rate this since I DNF and I won't be reading the rest of the series.
Into The Darkness I loved this book. I loved the main female character Charlie. I found her relatable and real. Lex is just swoon worthy. He messed up years before and will so anything to make it right. Poor Charlie doesn't know what she wants and you know it's gonna end up a mess. Can't wait for book two. I hope it's as funny, sexy and addictive as this book was.
Into The Light I loved this book, i feel it reflects real life more closely than a lot of other books. It picks up where Into the Darkness ends, with everything a mess. Charlie isn't handling things well, Lex is trying everything he can to make things right and i was right there with them willing them to sort things out. More emotional than the first book, we not only see the struggles Charlie and Lex find themselves with, but other friends and loved ones who have problems of their own. This story has it all, the highs, the lows and everything in between. It had me screaming at my kindle for Lex not to be a jerk, and at Charlie to not be so stubborn and i admit it brought a tear to my eye, not to mention the absolute love i now have for Kate. Loved the whole journey with these two characters, the insecurities and problems, the way they deal with life changing events are all written brilliantly. Definitely need to hear more from some of the other characters, especially Adrianna and Kate's. This book really does have it all, brilliant realistic characters that will make you laugh (especially Eric), cry and fall in love with them.
Julian Let me start by saying i'd already made up my mind about Julian when i read Into the darkness and Into the light. I really didn't like him, no real reason i just didn't click with him, so i went into Julian's book expecting to hate him. I couldn't have been more wrong. Kat T.Masen made me slowly fall in love with him. Finding out his side of the story and understanding why he's the way he is, she made me slowly start to like him. Starting with Julian as a teenager, we get to meet his 'love' Chelsea, and find out a major part of Julian's story. Fast forward to the present and to say Julian isn't coping, even after having time to get used to what happened with Charlie, is putting it mildly. I love how this series is written. It has a really good realistic story, it's not all happiness, just like real life, and i think that's what i love most about this authors work. I loved the journey she took me on with Julian, his road to rediscovering himself and what he really wants from life. Old characters pop up and Julian's nephew comes to stay, but he's keeping something from his uncle. Of course Eric is back providing some hysterical moments. I would definitely recommend you read this after reading the first two books in the Dark Angel series. It gives you that added insight into one of my new favourite book men. Well done Kat, i'm honestly surprised you made me fall in love with Julian.
Adriana We meet back up with Lex, Charlie and the gang after Julian has left for Australia. Adriana is coping better now and her and Julian have grown close despite him been in another country. Deciding to see where their relationship is going, they decide not to rock the boat and to not tell anyone about 'them'. Now this book is so much more than just Adriana and Julian's romance, it really is Adriana's story. She is so bitter and resentful towards Elijah for leaving her and Andy, and she really struggles with her insecurities and lack of confidence. Bringing them into her relationship with Julian, who's still battling his own demons, is a mistake waiting to happen. Then throw in brother Lex unexpectedly finding out and the fireworks really do begin. I've always loved this series. I love the emotion Kat always puts in to her books but Adriana's story will always have a special place in my heart. The feelings/emotions and situations are all something i could easily relate to. I love the realism, especially the first sexy scene, it was absolutely brilliantly written, the emotions Adriana goes through are put across very well and although i wanted to slap her at times, i could understand why she was the way she was. Eric, as always, provides some very funny moments making this book a nice balance of funny/sweet/sad. Julian is delicious in this book, i hated him for the first two books, warmed up to him in Julian and fell hook, line and sinker for him in this one. Highly recommend this book, especially if you've read the other books in the Dark Angel series.
Alex Edwards and Charlotte Mason are the 2 main characters we meet along this journey. We have lust love loss betrayal heartache and ugly crying. lots of ugly crying. These two have it all, or so it would seem. A young Charlie falls for her best friends Adriana's older brother the only problem is he is married. This story breaks your heart in so many ways, with emotional twists and deceit that's sometimes feels overwhelming . As time passes and the fallout of their actions play out as many lives are changed for life. They say time heals all wounds, sometimes it deepens the heartache and betrayal. Discover what happens when soulmates struggle to overcome the past. As their lives unfold their families become entangled as Andriana who is Lex's brother sinks lower into her own destructive depression finds herself entangled with Juilian Baker who happens to be Charlie's ex-fiance and who still secretly can't let go of Charlie. Adriana and Juilian's relationships changes and develops into a complicated mess of destruction. That pulls everyone they love around them into chaos. These characters have such tales to tell that you leave you captivated, and so invested with them and their lives. Discover and live and breathe with them all, and take on a life of loss heartache overwhelming betrayal lust forgiveness and moving forward to discover that families and love come in all forms, through compassion developing through unbelievable heartache. This box set was so well written the storyline was so emotional charged. I can't recommend this series box set highly enough.
