There's a new ghoul in school named Isi Dawndancer and Frankie has volunteered to show her all around Monster High--after all, she knows what it's like to be the new ghoul! Isi is scary-sweet so Frankie is thrilled to help her out.... even though Frankie's new pet seems to prefer the new ghoul to her. But when it starts to seem like maybe Frankie's BFFs prefer the new ghoul too, Frankie starts to feel really lonely and confused. What's a ghoul to do?
Nessi Monstrata is the author of the all new Monster High Diaries series. When she's not writing about the Monster High ghouls, Nessi enjoys going out to eat with ghoulfriends, shopping (shoes are her weakness!), and watching romantic comedies on TV.
An easy-to-read book for children. I like it very much, because such books help me to relax and read for reading, not thinking. I'm a doll collector and always read books about my favorite dolls. It's a very good book for Monster High fans and younger age teens and children. Easy to read and enjoy a simple story written in simple words.
This is an adorable book for middle school kids. It has the added bonus of plotline involving pets which I am sure many will enjoy. We all love our pets right? The hardback itself is adorable and has at least 20 pages of lined pages for someone to start their own journal. I thought was cool since I have kept a journal since elementary school when I was given one as a gift. All in all it was pretty voltageous!
This new girl moves to school. Her name is Fawna. Frankie and Fawna start to hang out a lot. Frankie's dog starts to get lonely, so Frankie starts to try to make a new pet for her pet to be friends with. Frankie names him Zappit and he runs away. The ghouls go and search for Zappit. They find him in the woods. Frankie brings him home and Zappit runs away again. Frankie goes to look for him again and Fawna tells Frankie that not all dogs are meant to be pets or stuck inside that he most likely wants to be in the woods. The ghouls find Zappit and Frankie gives Fawna Zappit sense he liked the woods and Fawna. They became pals and Frankie and her made Zappit a tiny wood dog home. Fawna told Frankie she could visit him when ever.
Not bad. Some good lessons on feeling jealous over friends hanging out with other friends. But the monster-themed puns were really on overkill this time around. "Voltageously" so.

Reading the second book I realized these were stand-alone books which makes it easier if you have a later book. Frankie's diary, like Draculaura's, was a fun ride and I enjoyed learning more about one of the more minor characters, Isi. Frankie, as always is full of energy which is contrasted by Isi's quieter personality. Again, it was overall good, quick read.
I enjoyed this one but I think the first one with Draculaura was a bit more captivating. That being said I do realize these are children's books that deal with children's problems and I think this one does cover some important social lessons.
Frankie Stein And The New Ghoul At School PLOT: Frankie learns a lot during her first week back for a new semester at MH. First, she discovers a love for something near and dear to her father when she comes up with the brilliant last minute idea for an independent project at school to use her father's lab to create her own pet (Zippit) Only Zappit isn't the social type and the next morning she's gone. This year at MH there are some international ghouls that are there for a semester. Frankie's been appointed a guide to Dawndancer and she think's they'll be instant besties. Because why wouldn't they be? Other than the fact that Dawn seems to want to spend more time with her old friend Twyla than Frankie. Frankie soon learns an important lesson that not everyone has the same preferences as she does and that just because someone is your friend doesn't mean that they can't have other friends outside you.
MY THOUGHTS: I haven't really honestly connected with this new group. I'm starting to think they're adding *too* many MH characters just in droves. Dawn on the cover is cute. I think I remember her in one of the webisodes but it's a little hazy. I liked how she freezes up when in the spotlight. BUT the daughter of the deer spirit? Really? Again I think they're running out of monsters and now they're just making stuff up. They gave her a couple of characteristics. One being a dancer. The other being an animal lover. Since I'm not either she didn't really spark as much interest in me as say, Frankie. I felt bad for Frankie. Not only was this her first creation it had to hurt that it kept choosing Dawn over her. OUCH! But it just goes to show you can't make someone love you. I thought it was cute that Frankie had that bond with her Dad. A little inconsistent because the first thing she made was Hoodu Vodu according to the cartoon. Or was it the gingerbread man that came alive? Either way, Zappit wasn't her first creation. And then also a little unbelievable that she got that good that quick (in a day and a half). But I guess we are dealing with fiction here.
RATING: 6. There are two good messages in this. One is that sometimes (people) don't care for crowds and prefer solitude. And people like Frankie don't always get that (extroverts). And that your friends can be into other people as friends. Doesn't mean they don't want you as a friend.
This is written as a mix of diary entries and regular prose writing. In this case there are two things going on. First, Frankie has a school project to work on. The project succeeds and disappears. The second thing is that Frankie is to meet Dawndancer, a new exchange ghoul, and help her adjust to Monster High.
Something else important happens and that is that Frankie is able further develop her bond with her father as she works in his lab and finds out she has a talent for working there and making something.
So, you have a young girl (Frankie) who has normal problems at school (her school project), and important development in father-daughter bonding and also has Frankie helping a new student (from a different country, too) adjust to her new life at Monster High. You have some really good themes going on, themes that relate to the types of things facing teenagers as they go through their high school years. There are problems they will face, of course, but with inner strength and the help of friends they will deal with those problems and go on to help others.
