Re-read. The group has increased. Action, awakenings and secrets. Oboro is so entertaining with his weirdness.

Action and excitement! Good job not boring me with your fights Iwashiro, that takes talent. I like the mythology building here and the Asaga-Tatsuo storyline was emotionally effective. Yay friendship! \o/ 3.5 stars

Je continue sur ma lancée de ma lecture de la série, je ne sais plus trop où je m’étais arrêtée la première fois. En attendant, j’ai presque tout oublié, donc c’est plutôt une bonne chose de recommencer la série du début que de manière approximative. J’espère juste qu’elle ne fera pas partie des séries que j’ai adoré il y a quelques années et où ce n’est plus le cas une fois relue… J’ai d’ailleurs Buster Keel à relire et chroniquer également, pour le coup, cette série-là, je ne suis pas sûre de la garder, là où Blazer Drive est une série de cœur que je souhaite conserver.
La fin du tome précédent laissait assez peu de place aux doutes, Hiryu n’a pas la vue qui flanche, bien au contraire. La personne qu’il a vu au loin est bien son ami disparu qu’il recherche. Ce dernier semble toutefois bien différent de celui qu’il a connu et se met même à attaquer et tuer les survivants. Son masque lui permet également d’éloigner un vers géant afin de ne pas subir ses attaques. À la surprise générale, il y a donc un humain qui a survécu à cette époque, les autres se demandent bien comment il a fait. La réalité est bien plus sombre que l’on pourrait le croire, mais en un sens, elle était en partie prévisible. Le gars est équipé d’un masque repousse monstre et d’une arme à feu redoutable. Sans oublier sa quantité et sa maîtrise du Psy impressionnante. Le fait qu’il attaque les joueurs est une preuve suffisante pour comprendre qu’il n’est plus lui-même et qu’il doit sans doute sa survie à cela. Pour Ageha et Hiryu, il est impossible de vouloir l’éliminer. Même si les deux nouveaux ne comprennent pas trop cette réaction. In fine et non sans mal, l’équipe parvient à le vaincre et surtout, à le ramener à la raison. Ageha et Hiryu sont passés à deux doigts de la mort, de quoi énerver et attrister Sakurako. La pauvre a déjà vu mourir tant de personnes qu’elle ne connaissait sans doute pas, alors deux amis je n’imagine même pas la douleur. Ils ne doivent leur vie qu’à la chance selon moi et ils ne pourront pas toujours compter sur elle. L’ennemi ayant repris ses esprits, il en profite pour révéler tout ce qu’il sait et confirme l’hypothèse que quelqu’un est derrière les monstres. Quel est son lien avec celui créant les jeux ? Quel est son but à lui dans un monde où l’humanité a visiblement disparue ? En tout cas, la révélation est de taille, ils ont tués des humains, car ce sont des humains qui sont transformés en monstres. Je ne suis pas convaincue que ce soit le cas pour tous, comme le vers géant par contre. Une seule chose me paraît évidente : s’ils ne parviennent pas à faire stopper ce jeu, je ne vous dit pas l’hécatombe. Vu le nombre de personnes qui périssent à chaque fois, l’humanité va vite descendre en nombre…
Les deux nouveaux membres n’auront pas tardés à faire parler d’eux. Ils ont tous les deux eu leur réaction durant le jeu et non après. Un fait qui est visiblement assez rare, mais qui fragilise également le groupe. Pendant le temps qu’ils ont besoins pour se remettre, il devient difficile de bouger avec eux. Le groupe est donc à la merci de l’humain manipulé qui se trouve sur leur route pour atteindre la sortie. En vrai, ses jeux sont un peu des escapes games, la seule énigme étant la localisation de la porte de sortie. Bon, après, je pense que l’on préfère tous des énigmes à des monstres souhaitant notre peau. L’acteur a conduit la majorité des nouveaux tout droits vers la mort, mais il aura eu la chance de s’en sortir grâce à l’intervention d’Ageha. Cette dernière a été jugée assez folle et déraisonnable par les autres. Toutefois, vu les capacités d’Oboro, je pense que tout le monde s’accordera pour dire que le risque en valait la peine. Le bougre est doté de capacités de soins, ce qui est assez important dans un tel contexte. Le personnage reste capricieux, car il doit serrer les gens dans ses bras pour les soigner et rechigne parfois à le faire. Mais il deviendra un élément important du groupe s’il accepte d’en faire partie et vu sa réaction pour Ageha, je pense que c’est bon. Pour Kabuto, on ignore encore tout de ses capacités. Pour son caractère, par contre, c’est différent, il est du genre à vivre l’instant présent et à agir sans réfléchir aux conséquences. Même Ageha semble plus réfléchit que lui, sans oublier qu’il drague tout ce qui bouge. Il n’a pas suivi Oboro uniquement parce qu’il y avait Sakurako… Comme Oboro, je le vois comme un électron libre qui sera difficile à faire travailler en équipe. Après, une personne maîtrisant le psy en plus, ça sera toujours plus utile que rien du tout je suppose.

Hiryu joined Psyren to hunt for his old friend Tatsuo, who vanished after getting into Psyren himself. Now that Hiryu knows they're being sent to the future, he's determined to find his friend---but Tatsuo is closer than anyone thought.
This volume covers a single trip into the future Japan, but once again there are a number of twists. On a surface level, the problem is obvious: there's no safe route to their destination. And soon they realize why the map is marked "dangerous."
Even worse, though, is that a masked man shows up . . . and Hiryu is convinced this is Tatsuo. I love the brief but impactful backstory here. Tatsuo's existence spurred Hiryu into both his nickname of "Dragon" and his desire to be more of a hero. Because remember, Hiryu was pretty much a wimp as a kid himself, but his desire to help someone else is what turned him into someone stronger.
There's more explanation of powers here as well. Ageha's unique blast is dangerous to others and himself. He's too prone to pushing past his limits, and if they hadn't found some unexpected help at hand, he would've killed himself.
I also like the additional layers to Oboro and Kabuto. The actor is incredibly annoying for everyone else to put up with, because he's got a childlike love of adventure, little common sense, and doesn't particularly care about anyone outside himself. His powers are incredibly useful . . . but with that personality, do they even want to risk depending on him?
Kabuto, ironically, is at least more honest in his sleeziness. He likes Sakurako, dislikes anything resembling personal risk, and keeps noticing things about this future land that will likely come up again once they aren't fighting for their lives. Even though his powers still haven't manifested, he behaves like a scout, which is a role their team sorely needs.
Overall this is another action-packed adventure. I rate this Highly Recommended.

When it comes to the characters from this series Asaga is probably the one I like the most. Backstory is alright, he was seen as a weakling but made himself tough in front of his friend. Do I care about the friend? No cause I forgot his name lol, I’m sure Asaga doesn’t die so it was shocking to see him get blasted for a second but immediately I’m like oh he’ll live lol

Asaga gets a backstory! He has a friend he knew, and now friend is... enemy?! Wowow exciting. At least the dude has a big gun, love big guns, and the reveal of our protagonist's psy power thing was neat.

Loved this volume - completely in Psyren except for one flashback scene.
Hiryu finds out shocking knowledge about his friend, Tatsuo. It's quite a fascinating arc for Hiryu and I love how we are learning more about Psyren because of it. Oboro and Kirisaki are weaknesses right not so Amamiya has to fight it out.
I have to say Ageha wins the series for me. I love how he supports Hirya and Amamiya already and thinks of Oboro and Kirisaki as part of their team now. He has this innocent openness that is quite endearing. We aren't expected to like Ageha on his own merits though - no, we are given Oboro's view of Ageha which makes us love them both all the more:
"He knows he's weak. He's owning up to it honestly - with a sort of graceful strength... his emotions blaze white hot... sometimes producing dazzling tongues of fire. He's holding himself back cursing his own helplessness..."
I love how we are learning with Ageha and his friends about the black sphere and their own emerging abilities. Tatsuo's story is obviously part of a larger story arc but I loved the introduction and how it had an end but also continued.
BOTTOM LINE: This series reminds me of Deathlands, a fav of mine, crossed with a Naruto-like Ageha who also feels it's important to always pursue helping people. Oboro is just delightfully odd and unexpected!

I don't know why I had this marked as already read, because I do not remember getting this far last time.
I'm really enjoying the plot of this so far - the Psyren world is really interesting to me, and there's enough mystery to keep drawing me back in. I'm getting really strong Arrancar vibes from the Taboo too, and I am not complaining about it.
That said, I had a few problems with this volume:
1) Oboro's behaviour towards Ageha is... hmm. Pretty gross?? Like... Ageha is a sixteen year old kid, and Oboro is in his twenties. Not to mention it's playing into the stereotype of LGBT people being predators - I don't know for sure if Oboro even is queer, but he's leaning into a pretty harmful stereotype, regardless.

Ageha, Sakurako and Hiryu are transported back into the Psyren world. There, they meet a mysterious psionist who looks a lot like Tatsou, Hiryu's childhood friend. Tatsou was transported to Psyren the first time with Hiryu but it was thought that he was killed. It is revealed that the psionist is indeed Tatsou but he has been brainwashed and turned evil. After an intense battle, Ageha and Hiryu are able to recover Tatsou's memories, but Tatsou can no longer leave Psyren because his body is too weak.
I thought this book was definetly more depressing and thought provoking than the previous two. In this book, Hiryu's characters is developed a lot more. We find out how he went from a dorky kid who was always picked on in grade school, to the cool, top notch fighter he is today. You get to see a softer side of his character and I really enjoyed that. The reader also gets to see a more vulnerable side of Sakurako. You realize that underneath her tough and protective exterior, she is really terrified and weak. I would recommend this book to people who like manga and action books.

Psyren takes place a carefully constructed world and its overarching plot continually builds chapter by chapter. Don't start here - it really must be read from the beginning.
Ageha's second trip to Psyren has gone wrong fast, as his group finds themselves caught between a deadly monster and a powerful Psi-weilding Taboo. A Taboo that looks strangely familiar to Hiryu…
The pace at which Iwashiro is organically increasing tension is incredible. Developments and twists feel natural and even the cliched elements that appear are used in unexpected ways. The expanding central cast is wonderfully diverse and quirky, particularly new addition Oboro. The dilemmas our protagonists face, the variety in Psi powers emerging, and the glimpses of the emerging bigger picture are all carefully detailed and instantly compelling. Key reveals are perfectly timed for maximum impact and leave quite an impression.
Only three volumes in and I love the way everything's coming together in Psyren. This series could be something really special if it can keep this level up through to the end.

Hiryu is just...just....so kawaii!! Ageha is funny and cute in a stupid sort of way, Kabuto is hilarious, Sakuraku is strange and sweet, and Obero is funny and mysterious. But Hiryu is just so kawaii!
The battle scenes flow smoothly, the dialogue is relevant and funny, and Toshiaki Iwashiro's art may not be horribly original, but it has a uniqueness all of it's own. The story is intriguing, and I'm left with more questions than answers...dying to know more is a good thing!
As they say in Bakuman (another awesome manga series), some manga writers are just geniuses. Iwashiro, I applaud you as a genius. ^__^
I was surprised to find out just how new this series is. As of now, only volumes 1-4 are available in the USA.

Ageha, Amamiya y Hiryu regresan a Psyren. En esta ocasión, como es normal, hay otras personas que también ingresan a Psyre, entre ellas están el idolo juvenil Oboro Muchizuki y el mujeriego Kabuto Kirizaki.
Este volúmen explora un poco más la historia de Hiryu, también apodado "El Dragón", y su relación con el enemigo principal de este arco argumental: Tatsuo.
Ageha despierta su poder interior al ver que la vida de sus compañeros corre peligro, un poder de tal magnitud que su usuario, Ageha, no podía controlar. Sin embargo, Ageha logró su objetivo y pudo derrotar a Tatsuo. Tambien se muestra, por primera vez en el manga, el poder de Oboro.
Me gusta este manga porque está lleno de acción y tiene sus partes de humor, es un manga tipo Shonen que recomiendo mucho a aquellos que les gusta Naruto, One Piece o Fairy Tail.

Well, that picked up in a hurry. I wasn't sure after either of the first two books if I was willing to keep going on this series, but now it's starting to get its hooks into me.
We get a few more characters, we get a bit more humor that actually made me crack a smile, and we get some pretty great action scenes. We get our first mini-boss, and he's got a pretty solid story of his own.
I think I'll keep going as I can get the books frojm the library. It took longer to get going than I am really happy with, but I think it's starting to make a turn into more solid footing.

Wonderful. The Ageha/Tatsuo plot was handled brilliantly, with just the right amount of emotion. Plus, Oboro is a fascinating addition, as he has just enough quirks to make him fresh and interesting. I considered taking off a star for the abnormality of the newbies' psionic powers coming online while in Psyren, but considering that it was pointed out in the story, I'm assuming that it will be covered later.

The series continues to be quite good. This volume introduces a new character and sets up what I imagine will be an ongoing subplot about him. No new information about the mystery about Psyren has been revealed yet, so I'm hoping that will happen in volume 4.

Involving Tatsuo and the Team Dragon situation, I felt as though it was pretty harsh. Tatsuo wasn't reached by Asaga until Yoshina intervened. Even then he was unconscious until they left and didn't get the chance to work anything out. I do like Mochizuki's approach and use of his Psy.

The unexpected twist of finding out that the blaster is that guys friend is really cool. It is completely cool that they are starting to find out about the taboo more and more.
