Don’t bother
He cheated on her and she saw it, 12 years ago
She left and now is a doctor, there’s absolutely no grovel, just a sad story with his sister’s death
I was expecting all through the book for a real conversation about the cheating and it was disappointing, only two paragraphs where he explained “daddy issues” and pufff, everything is solved like nothing happened

If his sister had not died, the reunion wouldn’t have happened, he never came back, called or anything

Very disappointed
No sex scenes
She’s a doctor and an idiot
He is not worth it at all
No connection, no love and honestly a very bad romance book
I don’t understand this type of authors, they don’t write sex scenes but don’t have any problems writing cheating in front of the heroines!

I’m not really sure what to write about this book because, honestly, it was all too depressing.
I never felt the love between H and h, so his cheating came across as more of an irritation than a genuine betrayal. There simply wasn’t enough emotional connection between them for me to feel invested in their relationship.
The storytelling felt robotic at times, with so much of the book consisting of conversations but very little sense of direction or purpose. I also felt there was no proper explanation for why H viewed his relationship with h so negatively. Was it because of his father’s words? Was he abused? That possibility was raised and then dismissed. Did he have a difficult upbringing? If so, it wasn’t explored in any meaningful way.
As a result, I was left wondering: why exactly did he cheat on h? Nothing was explained properly, and his motivations never felt convincing.
Twelve years later, h is still hung up on H, and I genuinely felt that she loved him far more than he ever loved her. I saw very little in their relationship that justified such unwavering devotion. He may have been a decent person overall, but frankly, he seemed like someone who needed therapy—though I’m not entirely sure for what, because the book never clearly established the root of his issues.
What frustrated me most was that during those twelve years of living as a nomad, H never seemed to realize how deeply he had hurt h or that he owed her an apology. The sister served as the main link between them, yet even after her death, when he finally returns, his focus is largely on feeling overwhelmed by responsibility which is okay but nowhere later did he reflect on the pain he caused h.
He sends a few messages, makes a few calls, and suddenly she comes running back. It didn’t feel earned.
And finally, the child was far too mature for a five-year-old. The dialogue and behavior felt much older than the age the character was supposed to be.

I’m loathe to write this, but honestly, this was awful.

Looking for angst? Don’t bother. A real love connection with raw emotion? Missing in action. I was so disappointed, for way too many reasons… but here’s a few:

1. He cheats randomly, (or so it seems) but there was no exploration of the couples relationship before, so asking the readers to care was frankly ridiculous.
2. He doesn’t know she’s spotted him cheating (he’s down a dark alley kissing a stranger), so the whole thing (including a bizarre confrontation before the FMC disappears from the town) was implausible. How the bloody hell did he know that she knew if it was never spoken out loud???
3. The dead sisters child was cute, but also spoke like a teenager, another implausible figure considering she was supposed to be five years old.
4. The MMC would never have come back, reached out, or had any desire to rekindle his great love 🙄 for the FMC without the tragic death of his sister—and were supposed to believe that they’re end game? Puh-lease.
5. Weird errors in the story. Small but annoying. E.g. MMC’s boss tells him to get a car fixed by 4pm. Next line, the MMC is picking his niece up at 3:15. Not a mistake but felt like an after thought.
6. Conversations that led nowhere, which led to off the scale boredom for me.


I could go on, but if you’ve read this far, you’re probably not going to need it.

12 year reunion romance

Madison and Jack were in love and had a beautiful future planned when she received her medical school acceptance letter, or so she thought. Jack isn’t as sure when he lets his father’s words change his future. Twelve years later they find each other again after his sister dies and leaves his 5-year old niece needing a family. Madison is slow to see a different Jack but both have to let go of the past to find a future.

The real star of this story is Lily, Jack’s niece. She has opinions and they are the best. Gerald, the stuffed rabbit, helps Lily along.

Great read with no sexual issues, just a beautiful love story.

It was fine I guess

It bugs me that he never really named what he did; neither did she. I mean he ghosts her for the night. Next morning he comes back, she tells him she saw him in the alley and he just says she's going to be okay, that she deserves better. He's not apologetic.

12 years later...no grovel, a couple of half conversations then a real one and by the end there's still no naming of what he did. It's acknowledged, implied but not specified. He does say sorry, but not for what he did just that she's carried it.
No drama, very flat and not easy to connect to either of them. Even Lily. They're all pretty dry and stoic.
Disappointed.

Journey Story of Hope and Healing

Beautifully orquestrated story of 2 people brought back together by the magic of a mother and her little girl. It struck just the right tone. So very glad the author found Lily.

The book setting is in Colorado. They are using phrases like "bin bags" and "school term." "At the cinema." "Metres" wasn't even spelled in American.
"tinned tomatoes"
"Windscreen"

These prases are not 'merican. Just set the book somewhere else.

Also, the book was dull which is why two stars.

A Second Chance Romance for a doctor and the man who self-sabotaged 12 years previously because of his fear that he wasn't good enough. Excellent MC's and Lily was a delight.

I think this is the best thing Grace Mitchell has written so far.
