That’s how long I have been searching for the only woman I ever wanted to love out loud. The only one who made me want to soften, to feel, to imagine a life beyond the families we were born into.
When we graduated high school, we planned to leave fear and expectations behind so we could finally live in our truth, but before we got the chance, our families were attacked and her father was murdered. By morning, she was gone, leaving behind nothing but questions and a silence that haunted me for years. As I rose to the top of the hierarchy, I never stopped searching for the woman I loved.
And then I found her.
She was mine before the world swept her away. And with her back in my orbit, nothing and no one would stop me from claiming what’s mine.
This book was good and GAY and I loved every minute of it. I loved how sneaux’s family loved her for her no matter who she loved, I loved the dom Fems, the mafia storyline… the drama, the secrets and family ties…
2.5/5 stars ✨ attempting to give grace because there's not many black authored urban sapphic romances on the market, but i didn't enjoy this as much as i hoped i would.
☆ the chemistry between the characters was poured into their dialogue instead of being displayed through actions. a lot of telling and not showing. sometimes authors can "dump" memories and experiences into character dialogue (e.g. when they met with the photographer in aruba and he discussed his entire background with sneaux in 3 sentences) instead of allowing the readers to come to a conclusion about the history and importance of the characters themselves. this happened A LOT and it felt like word vomit.
☆ the characters could've been more developed and fleshed out. they didn't feel like real people to me, and it took away from the plot, flow, and pacing.
☆ milani and sneaux knew each other but a nine year gap is HUGE and it didn't seem like they had any time to get to know who they grew to be. again, we were just told what happened instead of shown.
☆ the spice was lackluster and a complete miss for me. TO ME, it read like a very hetero gen pop idea of sex between women. it was giving foreplay.
Nine years apart and the tension between them still felt strong from the start. The connection was believable, the chemistry worked, and the story did a good job balancing the romance with the mafia backdrop.
The character development was solid, and I stayed invested in both of them the whole time. The spice fit the story well too. High heat, but still emotional underneath it.
The last couple chapters moved a little too fast for me compared to the rest of the book, but overall, I still had a really good time with this one.
Never thought the day would come where l would read this trope. I think that's what it would be called. Anywho, NEVER thought it would be me. But l loved the cover, enjoy the books l've read by Lakia and so l was like if I read Malice Matrimony with no issues. I should be able to read this too right.
Ohhhhh it was good. I was hooked from the prologue. On pins and needs because I wasn't sure if I could handle the segg scenes BUT I did!!! Love. Time lost. Arranged marriage. Four families. Betrayal. Secrets. LOVE prevails. Sneaux and Milani was truly a love that stood strong despite the time lost.
Okay Miss Lakia you deserve your flowers💐💐💐 you gave us hood lover girl vibes. Sneaux gave us MMC vibes and I enjoyed that. Milani was exactly who she was suppose to be.
Thank you for something that was truly different for me, that was written to give what it needed to give. And don't think she skimped on the laughs because she didn't.
The pacing of "Soft on Her," was good, the storyline unfolded in a way that was predictable yet also gave differing perspectives on how a family might come to terms with sapphic love and women being in the drivers seat of their own destinies. The storyline did plateaued early on and there weren't many factors propelling the story to keep it interesting, however, it's important to see families go against the grain of a traditional value system and be open to love no matter the form it shows up as.
This book took me for a ride! I spent half the book speculating who had a hand in Milani’s disappearance. Boyyy was I shocked.
This is my first book by Lakia, and I really enjoyed the way she shaped this story. Between the outta pocket banter of Terrell (my boy literally said everything that came to his head) Levi was so no nonsense and for Sneaux to be the oldest they were like her little big brothers.
My girl Milani said she wasn’t gonna be a damsel in distress twice. I was floored with how they talked mess about her throwing dagger. Called it a little knife. Lol.
Def a good read.

Soft on Her was such a beautiful read. I love how Sneaux and Milani got a second chance at love and how Sneaux never played about her. The writing style and pacing kept me hooked on every page, and I got to see the love and chemistry that never left them. Terrell had me weak every time he opened his mouth lol. Overall, the book is worth reading. You will enjoy their story and hope to read more about this family. I want to see Deja & Levi's story unfold.
Very very very disappointed in this books from the horrible writing to the barely there storyline it felt rushed and nothing planned out which is sad bc I do like Lakia work but what I’m starting to realize is she will have a banger then the next read with be dog shit 🫣 idk this was sad bc i want a FF romance but extremely disappointed in this book
Lakia, what a great read. I love the unexpected twist the story held I loved the openness and the parents love as well as showing the other things that can happen as well. To say everything you write I totally enjoy. How about a mystery next. Whatever you roll out with Im rocking with. Great job🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This story was so good. The way that Lakia hid that plot twist was so good and I wasn’t able to fully figure it out. I loved that they were equally possessive over each other and I died when she said she wanted her fingers 😂😂 I would like to read about Levi situation and how that’s going. I also want to see Terell goofy self fall in love 👀
It was cute and fast-paced. I felt like the plot moved so quickly that there wasn’t much suspense, but I was happy Sneaux and Milani were finally able to be together after nine years apart.
Sneaux’s father and cousins were hilarious throughout the book and added a lot of fun to the story. I’d definitely love to read Levi’s story next in this family series.
I had a good time with this one. Sneaux was not one of demmm! I love a strong FMC & that was Sneaux. She didn’t let nobody play with her or Milani. I liked that this moved quickly after they reconnected. Once Sneaux & Milani ran into each other again, that was it. They never left each other’s sight. Overall I enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was good to read one of my favorite tropes in sapphic pov. I loved how Sneaux stood on big business and didn’t let nobody tell her nothing! It was all or nothing with her especially about Malani. I liked how the story wasn’t predictable and it kept me locked in! 10/10 highly recommend
It's a great story about love and loss. Regardless who you love, always be true to oneself! Sneaux & Milani knew they were made for each at a young age. Unfortunately, the Milani family couldn't handle her desires, while Sneaux family was more open! I loved the ending, and Levi needed a book with Deja
I love when a FMC drops bodies and doesn’t play. Sneaux acts just like a ruthless, possessive mafia MMC but in a dress. Poor Milani. But uh Levi and Deja ummmmm what’s going on there?!!!
This is how you do a mafia sapphic book! The way Sneaux family lived on her and her choices was everything to me. She looked for her love for 9 yearsssss you hear me! Now that’s love! All I know is that plot twist was twisting.
There’s a warning about the sexuality in this one, but to me, I don’t think it was needed. I loved every bit of this story! Milani and Sneaux are too cute! Glad things worked out for these 2 ladies. Their families always looked out for each other.
Baby Lakia did her big one with this one! I looooove me a dom femme! I love how serious Sneaux was about Milani, she did not play! These two are so cute and I love me an unhinged lesbian in the mafia 😏 this def did it for me!!!!
From the very first chapter Sneaux had me enamored. Something about her protectiveness and overall demeanor that did it for me. The ending was everything. Read this book because I can’t say more without spoilers.
