9 years.

108 months.

3,299 days.

That’s how long I have been searching for the only woman I ever wanted to love out loud. The only one who made me want to soften, to feel, to imagine a life beyond the families we were born into.

When we graduated high school, we planned to leave fear and expectations behind so we could finally live in our truth, but before we got the chance, our families were attacked and her father was murdered. By morning, she was gone, leaving behind nothing but questions and a silence that haunted me for years. As I rose to the top of the hierarchy, I never stopped searching for the woman I loved.

And then I found her.

She was mine before the world swept her away. And with her back in my orbit, nothing and no one would stop me from claiming what’s mine.

I love being GAYYYY

This book was good and GAY and I loved every minute of it. I loved how sneaux’s family loved her for her no matter who she loved, I loved the dom Fems, the mafia storyline… the drama, the secrets and family ties…

I need more sapphic books like this

2.5/5 stars ✨ attempting to give grace because there's not many black authored urban sapphic romances on the market, but i didn't enjoy this as much as i hoped i would.

☆ the chemistry between the characters was poured into their dialogue instead of being displayed through actions. a lot of telling and not showing. sometimes authors can "dump" memories and experiences into character dialogue (e.g. when they met with the photographer in aruba and he discussed his entire background with sneaux in 3 sentences) instead of allowing the readers to come to a conclusion about the history and importance of the characters themselves. this happened A LOT and it felt like word vomit.

☆ the characters could've been more developed and fleshed out. they didn't feel like real people to me, and it took away from the plot, flow, and pacing.

☆ milani and sneaux knew each other but a nine year gap is HUGE and it didn't seem like they had any time to get to know who they grew to be. again, we were just told what happened instead of shown.

☆ the spice was lackluster and a complete miss for me. TO ME, it read like a very hetero gen pop idea of sex between women. it was giving foreplay.

overall, my rating is 2.5 rounded to 3 stars.

I enjoyed this book overall! It was a fun, quick read that blended romance, mafia drama, and humor in a way that kept me entertained from beginning to end.

One thing I really liked was the relationship between the two FMCs. Beneath all the danger, family loyalty, and mafia politics was a genuinely sweet romance that I found myself rooting for. I loved that, despite everything thrown their way, love ultimately won in the end. I’m always a sucker for a happy ending, and this one definitely left me smiling.

I also wasn’t expecting this book to be as funny as it was! 😭 The humor caught me off guard in the best way, and I found myself chuckling quite a bit throughout the story. The banter between the characters helped balance some of the heavier moments and kept the book from taking itself too seriously. It gave the characters a lot of personality and made them enjoyable to spend time with.

The romance itself had some really sweet moments, and I appreciated that the emotional connection developed alongside the attraction. I also found myself enjoying the chemistry between the main characters and the lighter tone compared to some darker mafia romances.

The reason this lands at 3 stars for me is that I wanted a little more depth overall. I felt the mafia storyline could have been explored further, and there were moments where I wanted the emotional development and character backgrounds to be fleshed out more. Some conflicts also resolved a little quicker than I expected, leaving me wanting more substance.

Even with those critiques, I still had a good time reading it. The humor, romance, and chemistry between the characters made for an enjoyable experience, and I found myself rooting for them from beginning to end.

Overall, Soft on Her was a cute, entertaining sapphic mafia romance with plenty of laughs, lovable characters, and a satisfying happily ever after. If you’re looking for something that’s equal parts romance and comedy with a touch of mafia drama, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

Some People Never Really Leave Your Heart

Nine years apart and the tension between them still felt strong from the start. The connection was believable, the chemistry worked, and the story did a good job balancing the romance with the mafia backdrop.

The character development was solid, and I stayed invested in both of them the whole time. The spice fit the story well too. High heat, but still emotional underneath it.

The last couple chapters moved a little too fast for me compared to the rest of the book, but overall, I still had a really good time with this one.

First of all, I love the idea of a woman being head of the mafia. Sneaux and Milani did not play about each other, this was a cute quick read. I hope we get another book with a couple of the side characters

Oh yeah, Soft on Her was everything it promised to be!
Whether you want action or passion, Lakia delivers it.

They started off as friends but the day they plan to level up, the ground is shaken to its core.
Sneaux and Milani have that its always been you energy on 10.
No matter the time (9 years) or the place (the club), the challenges (engaged) or the space (undercover)... if in orbit of one another they will connect again. Fiancee or Family drama be damned.

I loved Sneaux and her family. Honestly I want to say I hope we get more of them buuuuuuuuuuut I don't want to read about Levi ane Deja. Ugh, Lakia we really could have let her get with Terrel and I wouldn't be saying this.

I feel like this book was lowkey dragged out. It had such a cute premise but it was hard to feel emotionally attached since the relationship had already been formed and they were building on something prior to the beginning of the book. idk this didn’t do it for me

Having someone disappear from your life is traumatic to anyone and can lead to doing whatever is in your power to find them or the truth. Sneaux and Milani's families are part of the four major families in their city, and they are aware of what dangers and complications come with that. One of those complications leads to Milani disappearing. Sneaux has gone to great lengths to find Milani, cost never being an issue. Their reunion comes with its own set of questions and complications once Sneaux finds out why and who was involved. Secrets and distrust are lingering on both sides, but Milani and Sneaux still believe their love is stronger.
Sneaux and Milani's story was entertaining; it just needed a little more depth for me. Things move very quickly, so there's no true buildup. However, it was satisfying to find out the truth that created the distance between them. The spice level is mild. Overall, this is an enjoyable novella that I'd recommend to anyone interested in the genre. This was a good introduction to a new-to-me author, and I will read more of her work.

Never thought the day would come where l would read this trope. I think that's what it would be called. Anywho, NEVER thought it would be me. But l loved the cover, enjoy the books l've read by Lakia and so l was like if I read Malice Matrimony with no issues. I should be able to read this too right.

Ohhhhh it was good. I was hooked from the prologue. On pins and needs because I wasn't sure if I could handle the segg scenes BUT I did!!! Love. Time lost. Arranged marriage. Four families. Betrayal. Secrets. LOVE prevails. Sneaux and Milani was truly a love that stood strong despite the time lost.

Okay Miss Lakia you deserve your flowers💐💐💐 you gave us hood lover girl vibes. Sneaux gave us MMC vibes and I enjoyed that. Milani was exactly who she was suppose to be.

Thank you for something that was truly different for me, that was written to give what it needed to give. And don't think she skimped on the laughs because she didn't.

BABY! I need a Sneaux! RIGHT NOW! She didn’t ever play about Milani. The fact that she held out hope for 9 years is madness. I don’t know that I would have that in me. I cannot decide if her not caring about what caused Milani to not only leave, but stay gone for long, is insane or romantic. Im choosing to lean into it being romantic. The fact that Milani’s parents turned out to be the reason for EVERYONES problems was crazy. But I do appreciate, that Sneaux spared Milani’s mom. My favorite aspect was the fact that Sneaux was a feminine mafia boss, who still instilled fear in everyone, all while being a baddie. LOVED THIS!

2.5

I had no care for the characters or the plot. None of it felt real or lived in as we get told constantly what is what, who is who, and stuff like that. We never get to see much to decipher bonds and situations are characters are in because it’s told in recountings by Sneaux.

Things just also moved too fast and out of order in ways that just weren’t smooth enough for me.

The intimacy factor also felt very shallow, unfortunately as urban sapphic reads are to find.

I think if this was a longer book, having the chance to actually build on things and slowly maneuver all of our points, it could’ve done more for me but due to what’s been given, it sadly didn’t.

This book took me for a ride! I spent half the book speculating who had a hand in Milani’s disappearance. Boyyy was I shocked.

This is my first book by Lakia, and I really enjoyed the way she shaped this story. Between the outta pocket banter of Terrell (my boy literally said everything that came to his head) Levi was so no nonsense and for Sneaux to be the oldest they were like her little big brothers.

My girl Milani said she wasn’t gonna be a damsel in distress twice. I was floored with how they talked mess about her throwing dagger. Called it a little knife. Lol.

Def a good read.

‼️

This was such a great quick read that packed so much emotion into every chapter. I absolutely love a good second-chance romance, and this story delivered!

What broke my heart the most was seeing how years of deceit, secrets, and manipulation kept these two women apart. Knowing how much they loved each other while outside forces and lies stood in the way made the reunion great! The tension between them was undeniable, and I found myself rooting for them from beginning to end.

This book had so many twists and turns to the plot. It’s like Lakia was teaching us that you never know who to trust. Sneaux and Milani were separated for a time but their love brought them back together. One toted a knife while the other a gun lol. What a dangerous combination. Overall, very interesting. Sneaux didn’t play about Milani . She didn’t play period and was the epitome of a boss chick. The ending with Levi was hilarious! I would love to see what happens with him. Terrell is a fool, but his character adds laughs to the story. This remind you that family isn’t always loyal.

This was my first saaphic romance and I loved it! It was a goal to read my first this year and when I saw Lakia was coming out with one I knew this would be my first! Sneaux and Milani have been friends for most of their childhood and started connecting on a romantic level as they neared graduation. Unfortunately Sneaux's graduation party ended in tragedy and led to Milani disappearing for the last 9 years. Once she finally reappears Sneaux is not letting her go! The dual possessiveness! The spicy scenes! It was obvious that Sneaux and Milani were 10 toes down for each other. The secrets that were revealed added something extra to the story. I would love a story about Levi and Deja as well as Sneaux's other cousin!

If you are looking for a Black, sapphic romance then this may be for you!

-mafia princesses
-arranged marriages
-only child FMCs
-Black family empire
-violence and revenge
-soft spice
-funny & relatable characters
-strong epilogue

A Black WLW romance with blickies, violence and fem’s who don’t play about each other? Sold.

This was funny, passionate and relatable.
My only qualm was that there wasn’t more of Sneaux and Milani.

This is exactly what the WLW girlies have been asking for!

Sneaux 🫶🏾🫶🏾

Soft on Her was such a beautiful read. I love how Sneaux and Milani got a second chance at love and how Sneaux never played about her. The writing style and pacing kept me hooked on every page, and I got to see the love and chemistry that never left them. Terrell had me weak every time he opened his mouth lol. Overall, the book is worth reading. You will enjoy their story and hope to read more about this family. I want to see Deja & Levi's story unfold.

I wanted more because I was very hype to read a sapphic mafia romance. This started strong, but the end wrapped up pretty quick, this had the potential to be a full length novel honestly. But I liked Sneaux and Milani’s chemistry, then starting as teenage crushes was very cute. The flamingos (my favorite bird) were a nice touch, and I like that both FMC’s were still very much in tune to each other despite the 9 year gap.

I loved it!!

This story was so good. The way that Lakia hid that plot twist was so good and I wasn’t able to fully figure it out. I loved that they were equally possessive over each other and I died when she said she wanted her fingers 😂😂 I would like to read about Levi situation and how that’s going. I also want to see Terell goofy self fall in love 👀

Cute Story

It was cute and fast-paced. I felt like the plot moved so quickly that there wasn’t much suspense, but I was happy Sneaux and Milani were finally able to be together after nine years apart.

Sneaux’s father and cousins were hilarious throughout the book and added a lot of fun to the story. I’d definitely love to read Levi’s story next in this family series.

I had a good time with this one. Sneaux was not one of demmm! I love a strong FMC & that was Sneaux. She didn’t let nobody play with her or Milani. I liked that this moved quickly after they reconnected. Once Sneaux & Milani ran into each other again, that was it. They never left each other’s sight. Overall I enjoyed it.

Aww

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was good to read one of my favorite tropes in sapphic pov. I loved how Sneaux stood on big business and didn’t let nobody tell her nothing! It was all or nothing with her especially about Malani. I liked how the story wasn’t predictable and it kept me locked in! 10/10 highly recommend

Loved It

It's a great story about love and loss. Regardless who you love, always be true to oneself! Sneaux & Milani knew they were made for each at a young age. Unfortunately, the Milani family couldn't handle her desires, while Sneaux family was more open! I loved the ending, and Levi needed a book with Deja

Sneaux and Milani were meant to be. Nine years of searching and they never left each other’s minds and hearts. Milani’s father and that hateful heart were really disappointing. I loved that it was actually sapphic and not stuck in the middle. I loved how Sneaux's family loved her for her no matter who she loved. I enjoyed seeing dom Fems represented.
