Sometimes the one you want is the one you least suspect...
Accountant Samantha Ennis craves order and structure. As the bookkeeper at the boutique advertising agency she owns with her three best friends, it’s her job to apply logic to the chaos. When one of those best friends, laid back Hunter Blair, moves in to share her loft apartment, Sam’s carefully organised world is thrown wildly askew.
Hunter Blair’s been the coolest one in the room since elementary school. Until recently, her biggest worry in the world was which of the girls in her cell phone to call on a Saturday night. But it’s not long before Samantha sparks a fire in Hunter that has her questioning her old habits and longing for new ones.
Isn’t it a bad idea to fall for one of your best friends? Samantha and Hunter are about to find out.
Melissa Brayden is the multi-award winning author of more than twenty-five sapphic romance novels and is hard at work on more. She is a wine enthusiast, a fan of all donuts, and is probably staring off into space as you're reading this. You can find her at www.melissabrayden.com and on most social media sites.
Sigh. Sigh. It's been a while since I felt this way at the end of a book.
Okay, I know it's Brayden, and she's a genius, and she writes delicious lesbian romance novels, but this one reaches new levels of awesomeness. Oh lorrrd, the feels. My whole body is alive right now. My heart is beating fast and I'm ridiculously out of breath. I feel almost high. It's the first time I'm actually thinking about reading a book again right after finishing it.
There is something so powerful, intense, beautiful about best friends falling in love. The dynamics are so different than when it's two strangers meeting, aren't they? It's not so much about falling in love, but more about realising what's kind of always been there. This connection. This... potential. It's about realising that what you've been looking for your whole life is actually right in front of you. The universe just needs to give you a push for you to notice. It's such a sweet thing to read. The development from close, fiery friendship with supposedly platonic chemistry, to true love. Brayden always writes about "forbidden" love, but this is really new. It's not so much a forbidden love as much as a.. surprising love. It's exciting. And hot.
Brayden's characters are usually likeable, but I have to say Hunter and Sam are by far the most endearing ones she created. Hunter is such a lovely woman who doesn't take herself too seriously despite being 1) irresistibly sexy 2) exotically beautiful 3) kind, generous and caring 4) and a very talented artist. She's not perfect, no. Almost though. She has the reputation of being a player but is really more of a flirt who hates to hurt people's feelings. She has a real heart of gold and is an amazing friend. I like that she is not the stereotypical lesbian player: butch and broody with a new bedmate every night. She's just beautiful, and people take notice. She's humble, and doesn't hesitate to change her life around, to go out of her comfort zone. It's very brave.
Sam... ahh, Sam. High-maintenance, dorky, kind of OCD Sam. She reminded me of myself a bit... hopelessly waiting for true love, drowning in romance novels because she's a dreamer, an idealist. And she needs to feel. She's smart, witty and beautiful. She's a romantic but not in a naive cheesy way. And she has absolutely no idea her friend Hunter is going to turn her world upside down... and vice versa.
And as it's always been, Sam and Hunter fit together like two pieces of a puzzle. Emotionally, and physically. I don't want to spoil anything. But that last chapter (before the epilogue) made me swoon. Hunter is the SWEETEST. And to think she didn't believe in all that romance crap and happy endings in the beginning... pshh. She ends up being even more romantic than Sam.
The ending is perfect. Simply perfect.
I was so sad to read the epilogue. I wanted a little more time with Sam, Hunter, Mallory and Brook. Because they're just awesome together. Their friendship is real and their dynamics are a pleasure to witness. The interactions between the characters are really fun and cute and lovely.
What I like the most in Just Three Words is how real and organic all the relationships feel. And that Brayden does not indulge in extreme angst, like it's often the case in lesbian romances. She doesn't need to. Just Three Words is a feel good story that is not too corny or too unrealistic and that keeps you on edge the whole time.
Excellent read! emotional, romantic, intense, touching and the friendship storyline aspect was skillfully pen out..great writing to which i would encourage everyone to have a go at the series
In three words, I'm going to tell you how I feel about Just Three Words. However, a confession should make way first. Whenever I'm missing my partner, I will pick this book up and spend some time with Samantha and Hunter. There's a bit of Sam and Hunter in us, he is not only the harbor to my storms, he's also the thunder to them and after all these years, he still responds to my "here, smell this and tell me if it's still edible" with a what am I going to do with you head shake and a smile.
Yes, Strawberry Summer has it's own spot in my heart, just like the Beast's red rose but Just Three Words is like the favorite top most of us have that we put on whenever we feel like or on whatever mood we are in at that moment.. It makes us feel happy, safe, beautiful and we matter to the world.
Most of you are familiar with Sam and Hunter, so I don't have to reintroduce them to you hence please allow me to gush over them, I mean, even though in the beginning of the story, Sam and Hunter are in denial of their feelings, it makes perfect sense for where they are at in their lives and who they are to each other. Plus it serves to build the sexual tension between them to epic levels so that by the time they come together, it is just explosive. I mean really, this is about as hot as I've ever seen in Brayden's sex lab.Trust me, you will be fanning yourself for pages. But most of all, I adore that once they are together, they are genuinely together. Yes, there are some bullshits, dramas, stupid fights but they are important exams for them to sit for, to make their friends - lovers relationship to work no matter what comes their way. I love Sam and Hunter individually but together, they are running the risk of women everywhere having heart palpitations, sudden swooning, hot flushes, and multiple orgasms.
The deeply interconnected network of friends, family, and lovers that this series has is so fantastically done. They all have each other's backs and have built such a strong, unwavering support system for each other. Yes, they bicker and tease but they're always united against an outside threat and are incredible caring and protective of each other. And there's just this brutal honesty and openness between them that is so deeply heartwarming. Each of them has their own special and unique relationship or bond to the other and the dynamics as they all play off each other is just amazing.Without a doubt, the Soho series has one of the strongest, most endearing and well developed ensemble of characters I've ever read.
So, in just three words - Old love is tested, a new love is born. Yes, I failed Maths.
Ms.Brayden, I need two things from you. 1. A new narrator to read Sam and Hunter's story. 2. Make a graphic novel based on Hunter's Just Three Words, the book she wrote for Sam.
Can you imagine the stars in Grand Canyon? They all belong to this book.
Do I actually need to write this review? Seriously you are planning on reading this right? I mean if you are a lesbian and you love romance then you probably have Melissa Brayden on auto-read and I am just wasting time by writing an unnecessary review. I could be off reviewing that book I just read that I hated, but instead I am blathering on about another great Melissa Brayden novel.
And yes its great. (But you already knew that.) This story continues the lives of our favorite Soho Loft girls from Kiss the Girl. This time we have Hunter and Sam who keep attempting to run as far away from one another as possible before they are bungied back together and somehow land in bed. Its crazy how that just keeps happening right?
Sam was very adorkable and I kind of loved her personality quirks. Hunter might be too perfect for words, but she still felt real to me.
I actually liked Kiss the Girl more than this one, but that doesn't make this any less of a great book. I suppose I just really connected with Brooklyn and found myself eating up any appearances she or Jessica had this time around lol. I think I'll have reread Just Three Words so I can give Sam/Hunter 100% of my attention.
I suppose the next book will be about Mallory. Actually it needs to be about Mallory. I have a crush on this fictional character that has had very little screen time thus far. I need more.
And thus the conclusion of my very pointless review for a book you will read and enjoy. Melissa Brayden is easily one of the best author's in lesbian fiction and is probably as close to a sure thing as you can get. 5/5
Something special happened here. I'd started reading this back in April and somehow returned to it. This is a big deal! It feels like the few regulars in my 'currently reading' list would be there perpetually. So, on a whim, I reopened Melissa Brayden's 'Just Three Words' on a morning train ride to work.
I previously put this on hold because I wasn't connecting with the characters. That's actually been one of my 'things' about the Soho Loft series. While I enjoy the cast of ladies, I've yet to really relate to any of them, even though I'm of similar age and living in NYC. On top of that, I still think the four mains' comedic voices favor each other too much.
Anyways, I lucked out because I got to the hottest part of the relationship. Yes, yes the sneaking around was pretty damn sexy. I rooted for Samantha and Hunter and internally raged at them for just not GOING FOR IT earlier. I'm excited about the next book since Mallory sounds like a fun/difficult love interest!
Overall, this is a lovely, solid book. Once it started picking up, I zoomed through the rest. I had a pleasant, tingly heart feeling near the end, when the friends were all together, having gone through so much. For that, 'Just Three Words' gets four stars!
This was a lovely continuation of Kiss the Girl, but this time favorites Sam and Hunter take the reins. Hunter is a confident, laid-back, gorgeous flirt and Sam is a quirky, accountant nerd with self-image issues after a recent breakup. The two could not be more opposite which is half the fun. With a rent increase and Brooklyn moving out, Hunter decides to be Sam's new room mate. After a couple of awkward situations and a college crush confession the two inadvertently begin their bumpy ride towards each other.
As usual of a Melissa Brayden book the characters have great chemistry and their interactions are playful, sweet, and very cute and not just between Sam and Hunter, Mallory and Brook return with a couple cameos from Jess. The plot flows predictably but is done well and with Brayden's typical fun characters makes it feel refreshing. It's fun watching Sam struggle with her insecurities in her adorable way and Jess growing and wanting more from life then just sex and when they get together, watch out, sparks fly and leave me needing a cold shower. The drama with the Ex though was a bit too routine and 'done before' and could of been handled differently, but overall the book was great.
This was almost as lovely as the first book. Overall I had a really good time and enjoyed both Samantha and Hunter as individual characters and in their dynamic. There is a lot to like with the 'friends to lovers', and 'and they were roommates' tropes going on here. I think (as in the first one) I would have enjoyed a liiiiitle more of the girls friendships to take a little more center stage? But I liked what we got, esp with the conflict of Samantha and Brooklyn figuring out their new post roommate new relationship dynamics. I AM still confused what voice the narrator is giving Brooklyn; sometimes she sounds like she had a slight Boston accent and sometimes she doesn’t. I def enjoyed and connected with the first one more (rivals to lovers is a bit more my vibe than friends to lovers) but I really enjoyed this one too and I’m reallly looking forward to Mallory’s story.
When I first heard that Sam the super-efficient accountant and Hunter the laid-back player was going to be paired in this book I was skeptical. Really? Whatever did they see in each other. No sparks or chemistry or even any vibes at all in the first book. But...its a Melissa Brayden, so I'll read it, but maybe after I'm done with all the sci-fi, fantasy, mysteries, dramas and thrillers that are crying for my attention. :) Or maybe even skip it altogether, and just wait for Soho 3 - Mallory's story. Now she's the intriguing one. Except...who can resist so many 5 star reviews? ;)
Unlike the first book, the plot here is completely predictable and sometimes eye-rollingly cliche (secret teen crush, misunderstandings, family drama, ex-drama especially that perfectly-timed kiss, etc). The funny thing is, and this is a testament to the author's skill, I wasn't the least bit bored. Nothing is laugh-out-loud funny, but throughout most of the book, I couldn't keep a smile off my face. Much of it is surprisingly, due to the "boring accountant" Sam's characterization and her attempts to cope with life, Hunter and mice. Ms. Brayden has infused just the right mix of cuteness, weirdness, humor and earnestness into her. Hunter is a bit murkier. All the ladies fall for her, but then so do the guys. Is she supposed to be butch or femme in appearance? Or both at different times? Despite that, her interactions with Sam are the highlights of the book. Whether they're flirting, daring each other, romancing, fighting, serenading or just holding each other and staring into the night--just three words--I love them.
Well, Melissa did it again. This lady certainly knows how to write romance, so if that's not your thing (often sappy, sometimes sexy, always cute and adorable) then it's probably best you read something else. This book is all about the romance.
When I first read Kiss The Girl - which is the first book in the Soho Loft series - I wasn't really focusing on anything but the two main protagonists, so Sam and Hunter kind of passed me by. I actually didn't much care for Hunter at all in that book. All a plan to surprise me with how much I liked her in this book, probably.
Both Sam and Hunter were great characters, in fact. Sam's quirks and Hunter's hidden depths gave them new dimensions; they both had a kind of fragility to them that was endearing. I ended up liking them both even more than Brooklyn and Jessica (from the first book), which I didn't think was going to happen at all.
The story was well paced, well written, emotional where it needed to be, sweet when it had to be, and a bit steamy where you'd want it to be. Some of those heated scenes were perfectly tense (I'm thinking of the first kitchen scene specifically).
I had doubts that I would enjoy this as much as Kiss The Girl, and was dubious about reading it, but I'm so glad I did as I actually liked this even more. Definitely now a favorite of mine.
A lot of people mentioned this being the least favorite in the series. I really enjoyed it. So that gives me positive thoughts for book 3.
I'm going to have to read more from this author. I feel like these are the types of stories and dialogue that I want in my romances but so often fail to meet the mark.
I wish there would have been more Brooklyn and Jessica from book 1. I get that it wasn't their story anymore but we should have at least gotten some mention of a fight with Jessica about her messy habits. Am I right, or what?
So I clearly see where the next book is headed. Mallory needs her love story and I think there is a generous bartender that might come in to play.
A perfect friends-to-lovers tale. This was an absolute jam to read. Everything about this book was perfect. The humor, the friendships, the banter, the fluffiness, the sexiness, and the angst. Loved every moment of it, every detail. Could this finally be my all-time favorite Melissa Brayden book? we'll see.
I enjoyed the heck out of it. Great follow-up to Kiss the Girl. The best part of these books has been the humorous banter going back and forth between characters. Just really enjoyable reads - fun, sweet and romantic. Good group of friends, likable characters, well written. I like. :-) On to book 3!
I’ve officially read every book in my library (both kindle and physical) so I’m kind of in a place where I don’t know what to do lol. In the end I decided to pull out one of my faves for a reread!
Once more, Brayden has invaded my reading time with a truly gripping read! She certainly knows how to write romance books and the added sexy flair that is in her stories doesn't hurt either.
I began with Kiss The Girl, the first book and so had been more interested in the two main characters to have any interest to spare for Hunter and Sam. How that would change if ever I read Kiss the Girl again. I especially found myself drawn to Hunter, but of course, I enjoyed Sam too, whose quirky personality made her fun, engaging. But Hunter endeared herself to me the most.
As for the story, it was great, is well written and has a good portion of emotion, sentiment and of course, hot and sexy, (not overly so.) Overall, this story is very sweet. I absolutely loved it!
This is a reread but this time I listened to the audiobook. It's not often that you can say that the audiobook is better than reading the book yourself, but Felicity Monroe is now my favorite narrator. She doesn't read the book she performs and she doesn't "over act" it. At one point I read along with her, and that is when I really appreciated her performance. Her voices for the leads, especially Sam & Hunter are perfect. I listened to another narrator attempt to do a low sexy voice (such as Hunter's) for another book and it was annoying if not comical at times. Monroe's Hunter is sexy as all get out!
If you are thinking about reading or rereading this book, give the audiobook a try. On to book 3!
I only have just three words for this book - I LOVED IT! It’s written by Brayden - what’s not to love, unless if you are not a fan of Brayden or you don’t fancy reading romance 😬. I for one loved it - the awkwardness, the highs and lows, that feeling that tugs your heart and the smile that’s fixed on your face when you have your HEA...
I liked this second book in the Soho series better than the first, but again with the picturesque…
This is the story of Sam and Hunter and that is about all I’ll say about it. I love both Hunter and Sam and this story is cute, but I just can’t with this earlier Melissa Brayden I think. There’s a couple of things I just can’t get over, like picturesque for a (nearly) naked body, calling Hunter exotic and a couple other things. I’m happy the picturesque took a while to show up and exotic was only mentioned once.
I’m happy to see Brayden’s writing has improved so much that these earlier books almost seem like books by a completely different author. Don’t get me wrong, its still very enjoyable, just not like more recent Brayden books.
I finally got around to reading this. I was being really lazy and I think this is one of the best decisions I've made recently.
So... I've said that I've seen this ship sail since KTG. If there really was no indication there, you can just call me thirsty. Haha!
*stops fangirling*
*clears throat*
This has been a real joy to read. Great mix of fluff, friendship, angst, family, and romance. I was giggling, then I was crying but I was left with warm fuzzy feels in the pit of my stomach by the end of it all. I am one happy reader.
Telling the story from both POV's made it better.
*thumbs up* Ms Brayden! *braces self for Ready or Not*
**** I saw the Sam/Hunter ship coming while I was read KTG. Imagine my surprise when I saw this... °o° *excited*
Book: Just Three Words Rating: 5 stars Favorite Quote:“With you. I was always meant to be with you, I think.” She took a deep breath as if about to jump from a very tall cliff. “I love you, Sam, which is terrifying to say. But what’s infinitely more terrifying is the thought of never kissing you again or holding you again, or not walking through this world with you.” She lifted a shoulder. “You’re it for me. And if you tell me that you need time or that you’re not sure, then you should know that I’m going to fight for you and do whatever it takes to win your heart. I’ll give you as long as you need.”
-second time reading (april 21, 2021)-
This was just as amazing as the first time I read it. To be honest, this may have been even better than the first time. This is just one of the CUTEST romances I have ever read. I only wish I could find more F/F romances like this one! This should be the blue-print for any friends to lovers sapphic romance. I really loved, falling in love with Samantha and Hunter's story again. I also realized this time how much more Samantha and I were similar; like, to be honest, it is uncanny how much a like we are. And plus, Hunter. I love her so fucking much. Its truly sad that the love of my life is fictional character. Anyways, I already miss them and want to read the whole story again. This is one of the few books were I actively tried to read every word, did not even bother skimming any lines just because I didn't want to finish it too quick. Anyways see you guys at my next reread, Samanatha Ennis and Hunter Blair.
-first time reading (october 31, 2020)-
THIS WAS FANTASTIC. LOVED EVERY SINGLE MOMENT.
Book two of the Soho Loft series, picks up right where book one ended. Jess and Brooklyn are secure in their relationship and are getting more serious by deciding to move in together. This leaves Samanatha roommate-less but before she knows it Hunter agrees to move in with her. And what happens when two best friends start living together and then suddenly become attracted to each other?
From the start of this series, I fell in love with Hunter. The moment she walked in I liked her character, the inexplianable beauty, the player, the charming and the artsitic one out of the friend group. And I did not stop loving her in this book, I truly loved her personality and everything that came with her. She was very funny and of course, very charming. From book one, we knew that Hunter was a bit of a player with girls all around flocking themselves at her, but to be honest this book just showed there was more layers to her than that. She was actually such a softie, given her cool exterior. Luckily, I loved Samantha as well. The more organized of the duo, liking life to be predictable and simple. I definitely could relate to Sam, as I also like a organize schedule and doing things my way. But like Hunter, she also had a funny side and a very compassionate side.
Hunter and Samantha's relationship was so adorable and very steamy! I loved their friendship and the way they connected before any of the friends with benefits happened. And when the friends with benefits parts started happening, that was pretty sexy. From their kitchen kiss to their shower scenes, they were just amazing. Plus, they had so much little sweet scenes, as when they first held hands, their first date and when Hunter sung for Sam. I can't even cope at how much I loved this book. And I was even more glad when Melissa did not have a ridiculous climatic break up, they did still have a falling out but it was a natural one that made a lot of sense for the couple.
The only thing that annoyed me was the constant mention of how hot Hunter was and how all the guys and girls just wanted her. I understood that she was lady magent from the very first page in book one so the need to continue this effect was unnesscary. As, in every book so far Melissa has not failed to mention that fact. An example, “Damn right he did,” Hunter said, slowly licking chocolate off her thumb with the sexy finesse only Hunter could master. A waiter on his way to the kitchen paused to take in the visual. A girl at the next table did the same. ” This was so unrealistic, I could not imagine people stopping at their seats just to look at a beautiful girl so randomly.
Overall, I loved and devoured this book. And I am so excited to see how the last girl in the group of girls to fall in love and so far I think I am going to love Mallory's and Hope's story!
Melissa Brayden's romances are really hard not to like. She definitely has a gift when it comes to writing romance. I find myself really enjoying these SOHO Loft books. The characters are likable and it's nice that we are getting the individual stories of the four mains in each book. I'm looking forward to reading the next book about Mallory, as shes more of a mystery than the others. If you enjoy a nice sweet f/f romance, these books are for you. I would recommend reading book 1 first, as you get a nice character progression that way.
This is Samantha and Hunter's story. Brayden has the romance trilogy formula down pat. Like the queen of the romantic trilogy Nora Roberts, there are rules to be followed. Identify the women who will be central to the current book. Samantha and Hunter, check. Mention the couple from the previous book and have them on page for a short period of time. Brook and Jessica, check. Mention who will be the star of the final book in the trilogy and mention something about their personality but leave the readers guessing on a possible match. Mallory, check. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Lovely.
Samantha Ennis, on the heels of a nasty breakup ( my favourite quote in the book: “Bitter, party of one?”) needs a room mate so she can afford to remain in her Soho apartment. Enter Hunter Blair, the graphic designer in the Soho Savvy group who is looking for a new place to live.
This new living arrangement starts off as an Odd Couple parody. Sam, meticulous, regimented and predictable vs live for the moment and love 'em and leave 'em Hunter. Brayden's easy writing style makes their interactions endearing and fun. Sam and Hunter both enter into this relationship skeptical of their own and each other's ability to make a lifetime commitment. It's a big step and of course there are bumps along the way. Like all good romance novels, the reader gets to come along for the ride. We are rooting for this couple to find their HEA.
The book isn't perfect but what book is? I was expecting Hunter to be much cooler and detached, the consummate player. Instead we get all kinds of cuteness with little conflict. Even her dog is adorable. The stereotypical seniors in the old age home where Sam volunteers were predictably loveable. At times the gosh golly sweetness and earnest niceness of most of the characters was overwhelming. Just as I was about to give up on the story the author introduced some drama which helped soften the sugar overload.
A light hearted read when you need to escape the harsh cold realities of life.
ARC received from publisher via NetGalley for review
Yet another satisfyingly sweet book from this author- she certainly has mastered the art of the feel-good romance, yet continues to have great characters and good plots. A winner for Brayden fans!
“Make sure you’re eating. Read a good book. And find someone to fall in love with.”
I mean, what more could you ask in life, right? This book was my favourite in this series! I liked both Sam and Hunter because they were two distinct personalities but they shared such an affection and respect for one another. The hesitation to pursue something more beyond friendship was perfectly understandable but when they did finally get together as a couple, there was this sweetness mixed in with this chemistry that was sigh-worthy and in a totally good way! I can sum up my reading experience with Just Three Words in exactly the same number of words: I. LOVED. IT!
I have discovered I have a "thing" for lesbian nerds. Hence my love for sweet Sam in this book. I was so glad to see Sam get a happy ending. Although with Melissa Brayden, that's par for the course.
DNF @ 60% on day three of reading this (10/20-10/22). I’m trying to be better at DNFing in 2025 and onward.
One of the FMCs is considering getting back with her ex-girlfriend who she was with early on in the book. No. Absolutely not. I can’t root for the best friends-to-lovers and failed FWB dynamic Sam & Hunter had going. These two should not be dating until they sort themselves out individually in therapy.
Such a shame since I enjoyed book 1 of the series so much; unsure if I want to read book 3 despite liking Mallory.
my heart is full OK SO i liked this better than the first one (brooklyn is still my favourite tho) this was truly bffs to lovers excellence soho loft series is just so comforting to read i wish i had a sapphic squad like theirs
4 years later: I don't know why I decided to read this book again considering I only gave it two stars last time. But it was somehow calling to me and I just had to read it. And now I take almost everything I said in my earlier review back. I enjoyed this book thoroughly. Best friends who also work together dealing with their attraction to each other is just as valid as any other complicated situations I listed earlier. There was definitely intense chemistry between the protagonists (though I am completely incapable of suspending disbelief when a woman picks up another woman; it's pretty tough for a man to do it, so a woman would need to be exceptionally strong to do so.) –––––––– I am quite sad that I've had to give this book only 2 stars. Considering the kind of 'love complications' that Brayden has handled in her other books - class differences, different career ambitions, falling in love with the sister-in-law, and love between business rivals - this one was a disappointment. Is old friends falling in love such a big no-no? And only because they work together? I'm not so sure.
While Brayden's other stories had difficulties inherent in them, this one seemed like it was desperately hunting for conflict to create drama. The storyline involving Hunter's family felt forced, and seemed like a blatant ploy to move a story that wasn't going anywhere. Also, witnessing the lover kissing the ex-lover and the ensuing drama has been done to death in not just lesbian romances, but all sorts of romances in all sorts of media. Even the spark between the two main characters seemed artificial, unlike the seamless "snap-crackle-pop" of Molly and Jordan, Brooklyn and Jessica, Jenna and Adrienne, and Sarah and Emory from Brayden's earlier books.
I really like the way Brayden writes. The humour always gets me and it was true for Just Three Words too. I had a smile on my face almost the whole time, and especially when Brooklyn made an appearance. But what I didn't appreciate was the repetitiveness in the language, which cuts across all Brayden's books, and sometimes even the blurbs. The usage of pet phrases like "in shocking news...", "in a move...", "in a turn...", "in more exciting news..." start getting a bit jarring after they appear a few times. I wish the book had spent a little more time in the editorial department so that these types of glitches could've been smoothed over.
