Forever Boston #3

Forever Offsides

Rate this book
I had no clue that the gorgeous man I spent a seriously hot night with was my ex-boyfriend's dad. Or the new coach of my brothers' professional football team.

I didn't discover that until months later when I showed up on the field as the team's orthopedic surgeon and literally ran into him.

Unfortunately, that makes us a penalty neither of us can afford to take. Not when one touch could destroy everything.

It's his first shot at being a head coach, and he's working on repairing things with his son. I'm still a resident trying to prove myself, and the last thing I want is something messy getting in my way or anything to do with my ex.

But that doesn't stop the fire in his eyes or the way he tracks me around the field when he doesn't think I notice. Or how our stolen moments leave me breathless and full of butterflies.

We both know it's wrong. Forbidden.

And for a while, we play by the rules.

Until one night the mounting tension between us becomes too much to bear and his control shatters.

But how far can this love go when we're destined to be forever offsides?

Forever Offsides (Forever Boston, #3) by J. Saman

4/5 stars

Forever Offsides is another addictive book by Julie Saman. This book tells the story of Quinn and Rhett. And goodness gracious I absolutely loved the two of them together. Their story hooked me right from the get go and I enjoyed it all the way through.

The book starts with Quinn being on an awful date. As she brushes off her date and goes to the toilet an older man intercepts her and they instantly hit it off. He honestly tells her she immediately captivated him and sparks fly. They bond on a deeper level and when she tries to sneak out of his hotel room she stops her and they exchange numbers.

Both have busy lives. Rhett is a talented football coach who is trying to secure a new job and become head coach. Quinn is an orthopedic surgeon and is in the last two years of her residency. They both understand each other's busy lives and their connection deepens over texts and some naughty video calls.

Rhett is about to move to her city to start his new job as head coach and everything instantly changes the second they unexpectedly meet each other. Quinn is the football's team new orthopedic surgeon for the year and the second they meet each other in the stadium she realizes he is the father of her ex-boyfriend. And she is the daughter of Rhett's boss and he is about to coach her brothers for the coming years.

They immediately try to sever their connection and keep their distance. Things get even more difficult when Rhett's son Russel and her ex joins the team and doesn't hide the fact he wants her back. Rhett is jealous of his son and Russel doesn't seem to grasp that it is truly over between him and Quinn.

And that is exactly what this story is about. It's about two people who never felt that sort of connection before and it's killing them to stay apart. They are so attuned to one another. Bonded in a way neither expected. And the longer they orbit each other's nearness the harder it is to stay apart.

I really love the two of them as individuals. They are strong, driven and put their loved ones first. Their bond was a pure joy to read and I love how their story evolves and grows throughout the entire book.

I loved seeing all the previous characters from the other books pop up. They added a layer of comfort and it was so special to see their stories continuing in the background of this one.

The only thing that was a bit of a bummer for me was Russel's overall storyline. I kinda hoped for another ending. I can't really say what I wanted to see differently, because it spoils the story, but I wish it was different. For some reason it felt a little out of place for me.

But overall this is a fantastic read and Julie delivered another brilliant and addictive book. 4 huge stars from me for Forever Offsides!

⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️

What is UP with my tried-and-tested authors suddenly writing absolute drivel in a well-established series that was doing perfectly fine?!

After Forever Fighting, where I spent half my review gushing about Roman and talking about how excited I was for Quinn and Rhett's book because the setup was delicious, I genuinely thought this was going to be another winner.

Alas.

It was not.

And my biggest problem was Quinn.

When she first appeared, I found her a little obnoxious with all the trust issues and attitude. Unfortunately, that only got worse once I actually saw the choices she made.

Apparently she's her hospital's version of Christina Yang from Grey's Anatomy, hence the nickname Yang.

Respectfully, absolutely fucking not.

If you know Cristina Yang, you know she would NEVER let a man dictate her career or life choices.

Quinn, on the other hand, is willing to risk her career to be with Rhett even though their relationship crosses so many professional and personal boundaries that it stops being fun and starts feeling ridiculous.

And then there's the whole Russel situation, which drove me absolutely insane.

Russel is constantly texting Quinn even though he has been explicitly warned by his boss — who happens to be Quinn's father — and by her brothers, who are also his teammates, to stay the hell away from her.

And Russel just ignores them.

Now, Quinn does shut him down once or twice when he starts pushing for another chance.

But instead of making it very clear that she wants nothing to do with him, she keeps dangling the friendship carrot.

She keeps responding to him.

She shares her location with him.

She hugs him because he's nervous and supposedly wants to be friends.

She lets him call her his girlfriend publicly and never issues a statement denying it.

And despite knowing exactly what he's doing, she never tells her father, her brothers, or HR about his borderline harassment.

That alone was enough to make me question this supposedly fearless woman.

Then she sees him with another woman and is disgusted, only to admit that it was probably for the best because eventually she would've given in to his advances anyway.

WHILE SHE IS SEEING HIS FATHER.

What are we doing here?!

This entire subplot felt like manufactured drama that could have been eliminated if Quinn had simply established one clear boundary and stuck to it.

And the way Quinn is portrayed as this strong, fearless woman who never quits also made me laugh.

Because... didn't she quit snowboarding after her so-called best friend betrayed her and badmouthed her?

Didn't she also walk away from football and stay away from the team because of what Russel did to her?

I'm sorry, but THAT IS QUITTING.

You don't get to build your entire personality around “I never quit” while repeatedly making choices that say otherwise.

Rhett, thankfully, was much easier to like.

I loved how mature he was. He was transparent about his feelings, didn't play games, and was pretty straightforward about wanting Quinn.

But then the book drops the seventeen-year age gap on me.

SEVENTEEN YEARS.

And suddenly his opening move becomes a lot harder to romanticize.

He deliberately puts himself in Quinn's path at the bar knowing she's considerably younger, sleeps with her, and then spends months texting her.

Which brings me to another problem: we're told that all this texting creates a meaningful bond between them, but we don't actually get enough of that development on the page.

And then Rhett is calling Quinn his girlfriend without even knowing basic facts about her.

Her job.

Her last name.

Sir, HOW are we at girlfriend already?

Of course everything falls apart the second they discover who the other person actually is.

There were some genuinely sweet and tender moments between them, and I could see the affection, but there was way too much emphasis on the physical relationship for me to fully buy the depth of the romance.

And then there are the plot holes.

My favorite one involves Russel.

Rhett and Quinn decide not to go public because Asher asks them to keep the relationship private due to the Russel scandal.

Except Russel is vindictive.

Russel knows about them.

Russel is actively sleeping with a reporter and feeding her stories.

SO WHY THE HELL DIDN'T HE EXPOSE RHETT AND QUINN?

He had the perfect opportunity to redirect all the attention onto them and blow up their careers.

But apparently the one piece of ammunition the man had access to suddenly didn't exist.

And honestly, J. Saman even acknowledged in the author's note that she struggled with the ending and bringing everything together.

It shows.

The story feels like it has too many moving pieces, and then instead of naturally resolving them, the book starts duct-taping everything together toward the end.

Which is such a shame because the series still has some of the things I love most about it.

The secondary characters from the previous books were great. The family dynamics are still lovely. The found-family aspect remains the strongest part of this entire series, and I genuinely enjoy the way these characters show up for each other.

And I am intrigued by Hayes and Serena's setup.

But...

After this book, I'm also slightly terrified because their story already smells like misunderstandings, sabotage, and people refusing to have one adult conversation.

PLEASE. I'M BEGGING YOU.

Give me two grown adults who can sit down, communicate, and solve a problem without dragging it out for 300 pages.

Because this series has already shown me that it can do strong family bonds, found family, loving relationships, and genuinely great characters.

I just wish this particular book had trusted those strengths instead of manufacturing one dramatic situation after another.

So much potential. So many plot holes. And SO much unnecessary frustration.

I went from eagerly anticipating Quinn and Rhett's story to wondering how we got here.

What happened, J. Saman?

ARC Review 📖

An ex-boyfriend’s dad, a huge age gap, and chemistry this ridiculous? I was never going to stand a chance.

The forbidden age gap setup was everything I needed, but what really got me was how natural their connection felt beneath it all. The banter, flirting, and months of getting to know each other made their relationship feel like so much more than just attraction.

Quinn quickly became one of my favorite FMCs in this series. She’s smart, ambitious, sarcastic, and completely unapologetic about who she is, while Rhett has that confident golden-retriever energy with the sweetest, most protective side underneath it. I loved how much he supported her, actually listened to her, and never wanted her to be anything other than herself. Their chemistry and yearning were absolutely unreal.

I also loved getting back into this interconnected world and seeing the found-family dynamics continue to grow. Between the romance, football, family drama, and all the reasons these two were supposed to stay apart, this gave me everything I want from a forbidden romance.

I’m completely obsessed with this couple and already want to go right back into this world.

~~~~
ALC Review (Audiobook) 🎧
The audiobook really brought this romance to life for me. Elena Wolf was a great fit for Quinn, capturing her confidence, sarcasm, ambition, and softer moments without making her feel overly serious, while Ryan West’s deeper, grounded voice suited Rhett perfectly. I especially liked how naturally their voices played off each other during the flirting and banter, because you could genuinely feel the chemistry building between them. The duet-style narration worked beautifully for the more emotional and steamy scenes too, giving their relationship an extra layer and making it so easy to stay immersed in their story. Both narrators handled the shifts between playful, vulnerable, and intense moments really well, and their performances made this such a fun audiobook to settle into from beginning to end.
~~~~

I was so excited to experience this one in both formats. Having the ARC and ALC meant I could fully sink into the story, and honestly, it made the experience that much better.

~~~~
A sincere thank you to J. Saman and Valentine PR for the ARC & ALC! 🥰📚
I’m so grateful for the early read. As always, all thoughts and opinions are completely my own. ✨
❤️Review❤️
I just absolutely gobbled this book up. I can’t pretend that I will be coherent about it in anyway. So, I’m gonna be so for real with ya’ll, this was exactly my brand of drug in romance book form. Old man/ younger woman. Meet at a bar, have a HOT one night stand. The man is obsessed, the woman has a career and doesn’t have the time for him, but he keeps pursuing her through text and phone calls until they can meet again.
Then when he moves to her city for a new job… BAM! We learn that Rhett is actually Quinn’s brother’s (and brother’s as in PLURAL!) football coach. He works for her father AND.. AND Rhett is the father of her ex-boyfriend. Who is also a football player. GURL….
This is why that first meeting, one night stand, and texting chats were SO important. Because if we didn’t feel that chemistry… this would all be WAY too much drama. But ya’ll I felt it! And not just the sexual chemistry. Which was off the charts. Quinn and Rhett just click and it makes the juice worth the squeeze for sure.
Plus, I was already just very invested in this world. The Boston universe is my jam. But even if you’ve never read one of these books yet, you should absolutely give this one a go, and then go back and binge them all!!
Duet Narration by Elena Wolfe & Ryan West, who were both fantastic.
Rhett and Quinn, I melted. If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with Mason Reyes so to see his sister get her book, just GAH! The chemistry Rhett and Quinn had, the YEARNING! GOOD LORD. Dare i say this is my favourite of this series so far. Also the perfect cure if you have Liz Tomforde's In Her Own League withdrawal. Thank you to valentine pr for this arc
I feel like I say this every time I read one, but I have a new favorite J Saman book! She always delivers the best drama and spice. And this one, with a forbidden workplace situation (they both work for the same NFL team as coach/doctor) and the realization that he’s her ex’s dad (who she dated for years and is coming to work with the team!) - ahh obviously so juicy and SO GOOD! These two just couldn’t help themselves 🤭 and I am here for it!
The audiobook is narrated in duet by Ryan West + Elena Wolfe. They were perfect for these characters - his southern drawl had me swooning, and she was captured all of Quinn’s sass and sweetness.
Tropes:
Ex-Boyfriend's Dad
Brother's Coach
Golden retriever NFL coach
Sassy black cat surgeon
Secret relationship
Workplace romance
Age gap
He Falls first & hard
Forced Proximity
Hands down my new favorite J. Saman book 👏🏼👏🏼 the audio was slayed by Ryan Stone & Elena Wolfe.
Give me the upgraded Ex-Boyfriend's dad any day of the week.
Quinn is a badass Orthopedic surgeon resident, Rhett is the newest Boston rebels head coach, and when they meet by chance they have instant chemistry.
Add in forced proximity with her being the resident assigned to the rebels team, her twin brother playing on the team, her ex trying to get back on the team, and the mystery man she's been infatuated with as the new head coach. Messy messy messy.
Rhett was the perfect balance to Quinn's black cat energy. I just loved them together ❤️
4.25⭐️ 3🌶️ the title phrase "forever offsides" was used three too many times for my liking lol. i normally love a cheeky little nod to the title whenever it comes up in books... but apparently i do in fact have a limit to how many times that happens.
this was so fun, sexy, witty, and there was just the right amount of drama mixed in! i adored the FMC Quinn. she was smart, accomplished, quick-witted, and knew her worth. i love a lady with a backbone and a smart mouth hehehe. i did wish that she had been more serious about putting her shitty ex in his place sooner... but she truthfully just didn't give a fuck about him i can get over her not immediately brushing him off since she was just indifferent towards him- instead of being scared to do so. our MMC Rhett was also a breath of fresh air. i love an age gap romance, but so many times we see an older man who still acts like a stupid little boy... and Rhett was thankfully not like that at all. he had a great head on his shoulders and he fully acted like the 40something year old man he was supposed to be (which is to say he was a hot gentleman and not at all whiny or intimidated by Quinn's success).
Rhett & Quinn's relationship was organic and believable which was much appreciated. there was a bit of insta-lust/infatuation for sure, but then they didn't see each other in person for months. so the progression of their romance developed appropriately after that, given they were only communicating over the phone until he finally moved to Boston.
i love the close knit family vibes and little glimpses of side characters from past books and series... but i will say that it can get a little overwhelming with the sheer amount of friends and names and family members if you haven't read any of J Saman's other series before. i think you can still pick this up as a standalone and have a good time, it might just get a tad confusing at times with who is related or married and who works at the hospital together.
lastly, the audiobook was just so good! Elena Wolfe & Ryan West absolutely killed it, 10/10 would recommend if you're an audio girly like me:)
✨Arc Review✨
Rhett is a new top tier book boyfriend for me!! He is so mature and him and Quinn communicate so healthily! He is the type of man that loves to take care of her and is a true listener! This was such a good take on Exs-Dad and an age gap!! It felt mature. I also just really love revisiting J. Saman’s universe and watching the found family continue to grow and blossom! The Fritz empire is my favorite ever!! Quinn is probably one of my favorite FMCs that Julie has written too! She is so unapologetically herself! She’s sarcastic and witty and fun and ambitious! And I love that Rhett loves that about her. He truly is her biggest cheerleader and doesn’t want her to change a single piece of herself and I loved that too! That man is OBSESSED with his woman! This book was so incredible.
I absolutely loved this, it was so good!
Age gap, ex’s dad, work place romance, forbidden.
The banter & the flirting in this? 👌🏽 and the yearning? THE YEARNING.
And the spice 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 I am obsessed.
Rhett was just absolutely delicious. His son was an absolute pillock.
And the fact that Quinn, the FMC is a orthopaedic surgeon & I work in orthopaedic surgery was an extra bonus for me, it was so interesting to read about. Reeeally different to most jobs in books I loved that! She had so much sass, such an independent queen which I’m all for! I am rooting for this couple that is fictional & no f*ks given. 👌🏽
Cute enough. Quinn and Rhett meet and have a one night stand - after that, they stay in touch through texts and FaceTime.
They both end up working for the same football team. Quinn's dad becomes Rhett's boss, there are protective brothers and the realization that Quinn's awful ex-boyfriend is Rhett's son. Lots of drama in this one.
I kind of adored Quinn and Rhett and like the other characters in the series, too - I might need to revisit it, because I do believe I've read snippets of the other books.
It's an easy, fun read.
I love reading age-gap love stories. When it comes to J. Saman writing them — I knew it would be the perfect combination.
Rhett and Quinn had the spiciest one-night stand that ended with the promise to keep in contact with each other. Four months later, they meet again. Both of them were so excited about meeting again, but unfortunately, life gave them a surprise. It turns out she has to spend part of her residence with the NFL team her brothers are at and Rhett is going to be the new head coach. And the trick part . . . he is her ex-boyfriend's dad, and he is 17 years older than her. They promised each other to stay away, they promised that it was a one-time thing, they also promised that a relationship between them would hurt the people around them and jeopardize their careers. But promises are made to be broken and both Quinn and Rhett are meant to be together.
I love these two. I loved how forbidden their relationship was. But I was also excited to get to the point where they would finally say "fuck it" and be together. I was so damn happy when it happened, because I could clearly see from a mile long that they wouldn't last long away from each other. However, there was one thing that bothered me. I was quite irritated by Russell showing everywhere and harassing Quinn with his love bombing. I actually wished for her to be more firm about him leaving her alone.
When it comes to the age-gap trope, I have the feeling that the love scenes are hotter than usual and I was so right. Everything between them was so passionate, so spicy and so full of smut that my ears were burning every single time when a love scene came up. This is one of the reasons I love reading J. Saman stories. She is brilliant when it comes to spice.
Overall, I loved their story and I can't wait for Hayes's book next year ♥️.
I love the forbidden love trope, so imagine my delight when this story gave me not one, not two, but three reasons Quinn and Rhett shouldn't fall in love. Needless to say, I was glued to my Kindle.
Quinn is a surgeon and the daughter of Asher Reyes, the legendary Boston Rebels quarterback turned coach. Her brothers, Crew and Mason, also play for the team. After escaping a horrible date with a misogynistic lawyer, she meets Rhett, a gorgeous, intriguing stranger. The attraction is instant, leading to a memorable one-night stand.
What starts as chemistry quickly becomes something more. Rhett is in Boston interviewing for a job, and after months of texting, he lands the position, buys a house, and asks Quinn for a chance. Their banter, connection, and obvious admiration for each other made it clear they were perfect together.
Then the complications arrive.
Rhett's new job is head coach of the Rebels. Quinn's father becomes his boss, and her brothers will be playing under him. As if that weren't enough, Quinn's ex, the football player who dumped her via text, gets traded back to Boston wanting a second chance. The real shocker? The ex is Rhett's son.
The resulting conflict is messy, emotional, and completely irresistible. Rhett wants to rebuild his relationship with his son, but he's already fallen hard for Quinn. Watching him navigate those competing loyalties made for a compelling story.
I loved the author's sharp, witty writing style (also very steamy!) and her ability to balance a complicated plot with so much emotional depth. Add in the lively family group chats, full of banter and chaos, the wonderful supporting cast, and a significant age gap between Quinn and Rhett, and I was completely invested.
Five stars, as always, for this author.
Forever Offsides is book 3 in the Forever Boston series and can be read as a standalone. This series is becoming one of my favorites by Julie! I didn’t think anything could top my love for Forever Fighting, but Rhett and Quinn are definitely fighting to be my new favorite.
𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑵𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔: Rhett Jones & Quinn Reyes
𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: Boston
Rhett and Quinn meet by chance at a bar when she is on a bad date. They end up talking and finishing off the night together. What should have been one night turns into late night texting. That is until Rhett becomes new coach for the Boston Rebels. There is a 17 year age gap between Rhett and Quinn but they couldn’t be more perfectly matched. They had all the chemistry and their spice brought all the heat. They tried to resist each other but it was quickly determined that it was going to be impossible to ignore their feelings.
The audio was narrated in duet by Ryan West and Elena Wolfe. They really brought this story to life in the best ways. Each narrator brings their own emotional texture to this story. You could feel all the tension brought to this forbidden love.
🌶️🌶️🌶️
Forever Offsides is the 3rd book in the Forever Boston series and delivers one of my favorite tropes, ex-boyfriend's dad. I am a sucker for this trope and it was done perfectly in this forbidden, age gap romance.
Rhett and Quinn shared such an amazing night together they kept in touch for months since they didn't live in the same city. Rhett is excited to pursue things with her once he moves to Boston. Unfortunately, they realize he is actually her ex-boyfriend's dad and the new coach of the football team her brothers play for. His son has also started playing for the team and is trying to get Quinn back.
I loved how they built such a connection through texts and calls for a while before they see each other again. This made it even more difficult to deny their feelings. They had great chemistry and I loved the way Rhett supported Quinn and her career choices.
I absolutely loved Quinn and Rhett! Forever Offsides had so many tropes I love: 17-year age gap, ex-boyfriend's dad, forbidden romance, secret relationship, workplace romance & resident doctor x NFL coach.
The best part for me was how Quinn and Rhett connected before they even knew who each other were. All those texts and calls made their attraction feel so genuine, and I loved seeing them fall for each other before all the complications came into play.
Rhett was such a protective MMC, and I loved watching him make Quinn believe in romance again after her awful ex. And their chemistry was honestly amazing. The flirting and banter were immaculate!
I also love how J. Saman always brings back characters and little connections from her other books. It makes her interconnected worlds so much fun to read.
THIS is how you write a strong FMC and an alpha MMC without making either of them less for the other.
Quinn is smart, ambitious, hilarious, quick-witted and completely owns who she is. Rhett is cocky as hell—but he can back up every ounce of that ego. He’s persistent, possessive, funny, ridiculously confident, and he can actually keep up with her.
The banter was EVERYTHING. Their chemistry was instant, the baby girls nearly killed me, and I loved watching Rhett go from interested to completely, unapologetically gone for her.
Strong FMC + possessive alpha + fantastic banter + laugh-out-loud moments = apparently the fastest way to my five stars.
Rhett: welcome to my book-boyfriends shelf. ❤️‍🔥
I love a book that is full of drama!! Meet cute/one night stand, Nope but it does Age gap, ex's Dad, workplace romance, forbidden romance, dad's employee, brothers coach.. can it get any messier than this?? Probably.. but I love it!!
And what I love more than drama is a strong, independent FMC! The only quirk I had was Quinn's interaction with her ex. She definitely should have knocked him down 5 pegs from the beginning.
Absolutely recommend reading this book!!
Let me give you the formula to one of my favorite books of this series!
Sports Romance + Forbidden, Secret Romance + Workplace + Ex Boyfriend's Dad + THE FREAKING REYES FAMILY!
One of the things I love most about J. Saman's books is that I never have to say goodbye to my favorite characters! Forever Offsides was an anticipated read for me because I knew it would feature my OG faves Asher and Mason Reyes and I was so ready to meet Quinn!
She was everything I wanted from a Reyes woman - smart, confident, a mature soul, and a perfect match for an older man. Perfect for Rhett Butler, the new head coach of the Boston Rebels. He's lived some life, having a rough relationship with his son and giving up so much to get to this point in his career. He's not going to let anything stand in the way of this big opportunity, until he meets her...again. Quinn Reyes is the new doctor on his medical staff and none other than the woman he took back to his hotel room the night of his interview. Oh, and did I mention she's the sister of two of his players and the daughter of the GM. Is she worth all of this? Are they worth it? He definitely thinks so and he's willing to go all in to make it happen, even if they have to keep it a secret.
I adored Quinn and Rhett together! Their age gap was non-existent to me because of how well they meshed. I enjoyed their "courting period" which consisted of getting to know each other solely via text messages. Their connection through the months of messages translated so well to their in person romance and had me rooting for them from start to finish!
The audio is FANTASTIC! Elena Wolfe and Ryan West brought Quinn and Rhett to life! Elena gave Quinn all the confidence she needed in her relationship with Rhett and Ryan's voice quality gave a spot on schmexy maturity to Rhett.
Thank you so much J Saman & @valentine_pr_ for the opportunity to receive this alc in exchange for my honest opinion .
This is the third book in the forever Boston series , and they were all 5 stars for me - but this one I would have to say is my favorite . Ex boyfriend’s dad ? I eat that trope up every single time .
Quinn was a force to be reckoned with , smart , orthopedic surgeon- take no shit from anyone dealt with a breakup via text from her ex bf of 4 years . Avoiding men like the plague til she ran into Rhett after a terrible date .
Rhett is an NFL football coach , who’s a single dad to a child who doesn’t bother with him and keeps his distance . His priority was to be a good father to his son and focused on that more than on his career in football . Noticing Quinn going towards the bathroom after a terrible date , ended up getting her to agree to have dinner with him .
What would you do if you found out that after having an amazing night with a guy , that you communicate with for months after the fact .. is your ex boyfriend’s dad ?
They have about a million reasons why they need to stay away from each but they simply can’t stop this chemistry between them - it’s explosive , insanely hot and tv spice . Habanero peppers got nothing on this .
I absolutely loved Quinn and Rhett’s story ! The narrators : Elena Wolfe & Ryan West did such an incredible job with this performance . 🔥
Amazing Story & Narration🎧Riveting & Beautifully Complex!
Forever Offsides
Forever Boston, Book 3
By: J. Saman
Narrated by: Elena Wolf, Ryan West
J. Saman continues to blow me away with another amazing novel, another set in her fabulous “Forever Boston” series, and it is great to be back in that fantastic world again, one of my favorites to visit and spend time in. I know I have said this before, but she has outdone herself once again with Quinn and Rhett’s story, an age-gap, forbidden romance with an ex-boyfriend’s dad, and the complexity of it all does not end there. I found both characters to be intriguing, and I was rooting for them right from the start. The two meet by chance, Quinn on a date that she could not get away from fast enough and Rhett new in town for a job. She captured his attention, and he made his move, and the two clicked like no other despite their age differences. A steamy encounter that leads to so much more, from a distance at first, but that changes when he gets the job as the new coach for the Boston Rebels. His move not only brings him into her orbit, but her family’s orbit too, and with her connections to the team, makes her off-limits. Further complications arise when his mostly estranged son wants to join the team, something he had hoped for so they could repair and build their relationship. Except the Quinn and her brother, who plays on the Rebels, are not happy to see him, and then Rhett finds out who his son was to her. It was great to learn their backstories, and I enjoyed watching them get to know each other and see their relationship grow, until it couldn’t. The undeniable chemistry between them was sizzling hot, and they could only deny each other for so long. A masterfully crafted, multi-layered story that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings throughout. There is never a dull moment in this book, and the story has the perfect balance of drama, including an ex who comes with a boatload of drama, angst, witty dialogue and banter, some charming and heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. As always, Saman’s writing, plot, and world-building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. J. Saman, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Once again, J. Saman chose the perfect cast to bring her characters to life, and Elena Wolf and Ryan West delivered an incredible performance of voicing them. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Elena Wolf was a natural in Quinn’s role, strong, confident, sassy, and witty, and West was just as amazing as Rhett, and will make you swoon. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the side/secondary characters too. Their expressive delivery conveys all the characters’ emotions, making you feel them all, and they were amazing at handling the witty banter and dialogue. These two make a fabulous team, with voices and talent that complement each other and an engaging performance that keeps you entertained and hooked on the story.
Julie Saman has done it again! She knows how to make you fall in love with the main characters and wants them to overcome any obstacles to be together.
Rhett, a football coach, is trying to land the head coach position for the Rebels, while Quinn, an orthopedic surgeon, is in her final years of residency.
Their story...
Quinn meets Rhett after she ditches a bad date at a hotel restaurant. Rhett is a gentleman, and they share a meal before agreeing to spend one night together. It was an amazing night, and the next day, when she tries to leave, he convinces her to exchange numbers. They start texting and having sexy video calls while not sharing any details about their life.
A few months later, Rhett moves to her city to start his new job as head coach, and everything changes the second they run into each other at the football stadium. Quinn is the football team's new orthopedic surgeon for the year, so they'll now be colleagues. She's also the daughter of Rhett's new boss, and two of her brothers are on the team. They both find out he is the father of her selfish ex-boyfriend.
Quinn and Rhett realize they can't be together and agree to keep things strictly professional. Then Rhett's son joins the team and wants Quinn back despite her turning him down repeatedly. His son's antics only complicate things further. But despite all the reasons they should stay apart, the deep connection between Quinn and Rhett isn't something either of them has felt in a long time and is impossible to ignore.
My thoughts:
✓ Quinn is a really strong woman. She impressed me with how she handled herself while dealing with so much.
✓ I felt like Rhett's son should never have been signed to the team for so many reasons, including how slimy he is.
✓ I loved the sexual chemistry between Quinn and Rhett. The sexual exploration was hot.
✓ I like how other characters from previous books continue to be part of each other's storylines. It makes me want to see HEA's for other characters who haven't gotten theirs yet.
What to expect:
🩷 Ex-boyfriend’s Dad
💜 Brothers’ NFL Coach
🩷Golden retriever/black cat
💜 Secret Relationship
🩷 Billionaire
💜 Workplace Romance
🩷 Age Gap
💜 Close Proximity
🩷 Super Steamy with k!nk and play
Audiobook:
The audio was narrated in duet by Ryan West and Elena Wolfe
✓ Elena Wolfe brought out Quinn's personality, including her playful, sassy side.
✓ Ryan West’s deep voice brought out both the serious and sexy moments.
I want to thank Julie Saman for the ARC & ALC
I picked this up already prepared to make Rhett Jones my problem, and Forever Offsides delivered him on a plate with a headset and full coaching credentials. Quinn Reyes is an orthopedic surgery resident who lands a spot on the medical staff for the Boston Rebels, the football team her own father runs and her brothers play for. Fine, normal, a family business. Except the new head coach turns out to be the very man Quinn had one delirious, no names exchanged, never speak of it again night with months earlier. And also, separately, devastatingly, the father of her ex.
What follows is months of Quinn and Rhett texting a stranger they can't stop thinking about, then having to stand three feet apart on a sideline pretending they've never seen each other undressed. Seventeen years between them and Rhett wears every one of them like a personality trait. He is not broody or cold about any of it, he is quietly, embarrassingly gone for her almost immediately, and watching a grown professional coach try to keep his face neutral in front of his boss's daughter is some of the most fun I've had with this trope in a while. The forced proximity does exactly what it's supposed to do. So does the guilt, because Quinn isn't only risking her job, she's risking the family that built this entire team, and the book actually lets that cost feel real instead of glossing past it for the spice.
Fair warning too, near the end, once the ex's real intentions come out, you're going to be furious on Quinn's behalf, and it is completely earned.
The world building is genuinely this series' strength, I would read every branch of this family tree given the chance.
Trope Chaos Check
✨ Age gap, seventeen years, and Rhett spends the whole book proving he can handle it (barely)
✨ Secretly dating my ex's dad, a genuinely unhinged premise I did not know I needed
✨ Forced proximity (sidelines, hotel rooms, hallways, pick your venue)
✨ One night stand to lovers
✨ He falls first, he falls hard, he has zero chill about it
✨ Forbidden workplace romance (her actual father runs the team, so, stakes)
★★★★☆ the sexiest ethics violation in Boston sports and I would still refuse to file the complaint.
I Love Her Sass!
LMAO! I have to tell you. You may want to avoid drinking during the first pages. I could've spit my drink across the room because this is HILARIOUS! Dr. Quinn Reyes is so stinking sassy, and I LOVE IT!
Oh, and that chemistry with Rhett Jones is off. The. Charts!
I’m going to feel him tomorrow. That’s for damn sure. But for now, I have another hour, maybe two, before my night with this gorgeous stranger who knows how to work my body like a bullfighter is over.
-- Dr. Quinn Reyes
This couple is fun and easy to get behind, even when the dramatics ratchet up. I love the way they build their relationship. When their resolve disintegrates, that's when the real fun begins! 😘
I'm not a fan of the whole Russel thing as it relates to the present, but I do like that she eventually pushes back and sets clearer boundaries. In general, I do like the twist it adds to her budding relationship with Rhett but not the rest of it. Julie makes sure he's easily despised.
I adore her family and friends. The love and support are fantabulous, adding plenty of humor and head slaps. 😂 The banter is 🤭
I see myself reading and listening to this again. I'm seriously tempted to do it now. It's highly entertaining, very engaging, and absolutely unputdownable! 🩵🩵🩵
I read along with the audio book. The narrators, Ryan West (one of my favorite narrators) and Elena Wolfe, are magnificent in duet. 🎧🩵🎧
