Book two in the Covenant Keeper’s series by Grant Hazen follows pastor Jaydon Parable as he and a team of friends and colleagues work hard to uncover a much deeper, darker plot still lingering beyond the recently fallen Cult of Lilith. As this new threat begins to spread across Detroit, Jaydon, Simon, and Evelyn are thrust into darkness like never before and are forced to make choices that don’t always come easy.
This book masterfully combines demonic horror, occult mystery, and detective investigations while maintaining a strong semblance of faith. Though, I will admit, the ghost detective had to be my favorite part… Evelyn’s character development and/or storyline was the best I’ve seen from Hazen yet. Her strong wit and sharp skills combined with her tragic backstory add a depth to this book that I found to be somewhat lacking in the first. I’m glad to see the author has grown over time and look forward to reading the next installment. Though it will be hard to wait, having been left on that cliffhanger!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (one less than five only because of minor language throughout).
Trigger warning ⚠️: This book does delve into demon possession and the darker side of spiritual warfare so if that is something you struggle with, I would caution against it.
