About the author

Kago Shintarō ( 駕籠真太郎) is a Japanese illustrator and manga artist. Kano was born in Tokyo in 1969. He debuted in 1988 on the magazine COMIC BOX. Since then his comics, usually short stories, have been published in several adult manga magazines, gaining him considerable popularity around the world.
Kago specialises in ero-guro, a Japanese visual genre that puts its focus on eroticism, sexual corruption, and grotesque body horror. Many of Kago's manga have strongly satirical overtones, and deal with grotesque subjects such as extreme sex, scatology and body modification. His unique style has been called "fashionable paranoia".

A mio parere, uno dei volumi più belli di Shintaro Kago! In grado di mettere in luce tutto il talento e la genialità di un autore unico nel suo genere che, riuscendo a rileggere in chiave moderna gli elementi della corrente ero-guro, crea qualcosa di stilisticamente nuovo, originale e fuori dagli schemi!

This collection is brilliant. All 1-4 page shorts and I adored almost every single one. Several that are inherently enjoyable even without reading the language, some without words, so I may try to make some of my friends read it.

Kago è geniale. Costruisce i racconti facendoli inerpicare per ipotesi fantastiche, al limite del non sense, ma con una vena creativa fertilissima. Questo libro, al di là degli eccessi di violenza, è da leggere e vi saprà stupire.

Shintaro è un genio. Non uno di quelli che si studiano a scuola, beninteso. Ma un'opera del genere è frutto di una mente meravigliosamente deviata. Il tratto è allo stato dell'arte: magnifico, pulitissimo, di una precisione chirurgica, e il termine non è casuale. Ma è nelle "storie" che il genio esplode appieno: racconti brevissimi, a volte ridotti a una sola pagina, in cui il grottesco, il weird, la pornografia, la ricerca dell'estremo sono gli ingredienti goduriosi per una ricetta che non assaggerete da nessun'altra parte. Plauso a questa edizione italiana, curatissima e di grande formato, per non perdersi nulla. Un bel viaggio tra interiora, surrealismi, liquidi corporali, meta-fumetteria e via così a uscire pazzi. Per pochi eletti.

Experimento: ¿Puede un accidente de camino a la escuela terminar en beso?

Hay historietas que son chistes ilustrados. Hay historias breves cuyo único fin es una serie de ilustraciones bizarras, entre el humor negro y la ácida crueldad.

Y hay juegos técnicos como en "cubo de Rubik", "Una historia al margen" o "Últimos momentos de la mangaka" en los que la historia es lo de menos, porque la virguería de distorsionar el mundo, dibujar en el margen o en el otro lado del papel merecen la pena por sí solos.

+ Construction très intéressante, des jeux dans les codes narratifs et graphiques en manga très bien explorés, vraiment rafraîchissant de ce point de vue.
- Un peu dubitatif de certaines des nouvelles - surtout les planches pour Vice - dont l'humour noir m'a parfois semblé un peu réduit à quelque chose d'un peu glauque plus que de l'humour grinçant

Raccolta di storie brevi di Shintaro Kago, una più assurda dell'altra. Ma veramente assurde, eh (non mi tirerò mai più una pellicina in vita mia).

Finisci il volume che ne vuoi ancora. Di solito è un ottimo segno.

Shintaro Kago è un genio.
Le storie contenute in questo volume sono semplicemente fantastiche e dimostra non solo una grande capacità nel condurre le storie verso finali ancora più potenti dell’inizio, ma anche una giocosità fuori dal comune nel nel giocare, appunto, con il fumetto, l’impostazione della tavola e chi ne ha più ne metta.
Lui e Furuya sono due scoperte di fine 2023 davvero sensazionali.

It was ok. The comics varied in quality from bad to great, and each one is very short so that even if its bad you dont have to suffer through it for long. Generally worth checking out if you like how Kago can do interesting things like make a story around fooling the reader's eye or constructing oddly framed and guttered episodes.
