After landing on a world gone mad with a virus that turned the majority of the population into feral zombies, a small special forces team closes in on the answers to so many mysteries about this horrific situation and someone will do anything to keep the truth from getting out. Veronica Scott has kept me on the edge of my seat through this series of ‘nail-biter’ post-apocalyptic sci-fi romances and at last we have arrived at the grand finale. I was all in!
Resolution is the fifth installment in a connected series of stories that must be read in order as this final book wraps up the loose threads for all the previous books and novellas.
The first book, Arrival, introduced Dr. Melly Jericho, Captain Jeff Pearson and his team as they met while trying to survive as soon as their feet hit the ground on the planet. Melly is a fully-trained medical doctor and her skills are of vital importance. Jeff and his team are posing as retired Sectors military come to claim their ‘veteran acres’ on a colony world, but in actuality, they are still active Special Forces who have been sent on a mission to track down an alien signal and other anomalies that have the military concerned. Now, their mission got that much more complicated as all hell has broken loose and survival is the priority.
Jeff and his team that now includes Melly, Tamsyn a rancher, Les and Devora who are refugees and friends of Tamsyn’s investigate the refugee camp and work the original mission Jeff and his team set out to do while bucking a powerful dictator-like general and his people all the while people are disappearing from the camp and weird things are happening beyond the zombie situation. Jeff is focused on his mission, but Melly can’t shake the fear that something’s off and they all need to get out now before it’s too late.
Resolution was the climax of a series and was pitch perfect as it ratcheted up the tension as things grew more dire. I liked seeing all the past couples involved and their stories progressing though Melly and Jeff were the one’s delivering the story from their alternating points of view. There were some surprises and twists when the reveals started coming out. I confess I saw much of it coming with the hints that were dropped along the way, but there were still a few crucial surprises and then there was the need to know how they would pull through it all.
There was a good blend of character, relationship, and action plot development. Melly and Jeff disagreed, but I was glad the drama was all about the external conflict rather than on them and they handled the stress, fear, and acute danger with a little vulnerability, but also courage.
All in all, this was a fabulous series from first to last and Resolution was a fabulous finish to the series. Those who can appreciate some post-apocalypse zombie action in their far-future sci-fi romances should give these a go.

In the conclusion to the series (although there are a couple more members of the team that could meet their match in the future, maybe) the special forces team investigates the settlement run by the remaining planetary military that is surrounded by the infected (zombies) with no way out once survivors are admitted. Something doesn’t seem right, and Jeff, Melly and Tamsyn can’t wait to get out of there and finish their ultimate mission. I loved the action in this one, and the way the guys find a way to acquire the equipment they need to put an end to what is being done to the planet. This was a wonderful conclusion where all of the evil doers get what’s coming to them, and our heroes all get a much deserved happy life working for the good of the planet and its surviving people.

What a satisfying conclusion to the series! It is hard to review with spoilers for the first books, but I can say that once again, Veronica Scott has created a riveting page turner populated with heroes and heroines worth cheering, and villains who get the justice they deserve.
If you like your sci-fi with heart-pounding action and strong, believable characters and romance, read The Planet of Last Resort series.

Fourth in the series. Back to Melly and Jeff. They , along with Tamsyn go to Glastine to find out what's going on. We get some answers in this book. This is apparently the last book but I would love it if the author revisited the setting in later books.

Riveting
There is a small handful of "end of earth" series and the Planet of Last Resort is definitely in the mix. The characters and plot are very well written. This the last book with some unanswered questions still. I highly recommend this series.
