A new author to me, the second book in the series & a prequel I enjoyed. The start of Cam & Lakey's journey in the Shattered Souls series. Both are broken by the abuse & the system that hasn't defended them.
Cam is likeable,but for me, Lakey not so, I felt she was immature and childish. Athough she has been through alot, I didn't relate to her at all. She was skittish, bratty and unhinged. She looks after Cam & is equal to him. They have an unbreakable bond and have gone to hell & back. Maybe its because she is so young, she can't control her emotions like Cam can. He leart to control his emotions in prison, and through fighting.
A good story, that has unanswered questions that I can't wait to read about. I will continue on their journey to see how it all plays out. The nuns are dangerous, more needs to be revealed. Are they part of the underground network!
Look forward to the next book, recommend reading, and I hope I get to conmect with Lakey as the series continues.

I found this book notable for its urgent, unvarnished portrayal of trauma and loyalty, reflected in the lives of a misanthropic couple bound by Fate to love each other. A simple epitaph, Deliver It to Me Mother, is both Lakey’s dark presence and the ever-looming sense of dread throughout. This one line is enough to draw the reader in with its spooky promise.
I loved the way Harbor made the characters the centre of this story. Cameron and Lakey can easily be defined as a not-so-perfectly perfect relationship – violent yet gentle, chaotic yet unbelievably sincere. Lakey’s punch in the face when Cam comes back is not only a literal claim to territory; it also symbolizes every grievance, promise, and myth from years of pain, looking for closure.
Her name tattooed across Cam's chest adds permanence and desperation to their connection. This complexity elevates the novel beyond standard genre fare; it makes the story searingly authentic, rendering a horrible yet potent reflection in raw, straightforward human emotion.
Plot-wise, the narrative walks a fine line between action and character work. Cam has to go back into the real world of desperate people trying to find footing through child support and finding jobs after prison, while also facing the consequences of his past actions. As the story goes to much darker places, this "mask, cage and cash" deal helps too; it doesn’t feel like a forced character arc but adds an air of moral ambiguity, posing external stakes that reflect the inner battles of these characters.
That being said, the pacing sometimes feels offbeat, especially when the narrative leans into brutal combat scenes or grizzly exposition. These portions may feel slightly heavy-handed to some readers, although they arguably enhance the overall tone of desperation and threat. Even so, the shifts are part of the novel’s grim momentum.
Broken Shadow is a brutal, dark tale that will appeal to those who enjoy character-driven fiction with themes of pain and recovery at its core. It is not for the faint of heart, as the violence and emotional intensity are punishing, but it rewards readers who will sit with discomfort in exchange for layered, powerful storytelling.
If flawed people beating against the bars in their cage to get back out into humanity is your jam, this nopey prequel will find you eavesdropping on all kinds of shadows we carry. It makes you question how far someone will go for love, survival, and revenge—and whether the past can ever be fully fled.
Ultimately, I was mesmerized by Graves’s ability to juxtapose moments of violence with deeply tender ones. Broken Shadow is not simply a story, but an invitation to experience its scars and fractures. From there, Cam and Lakey are bathed in blasphemy; sin-soaked souls. That question will stay with you long after the final page.

I didn't exactly know what I was in for with this book. To be fully honest, I had applied to be an ARC reader, but forgot about it until I found the info in my junk folder! All I knew was the following:
1) The main series doesn't end with a traditional HEA (but does have an alternative ending for those who DO want them to have one!), and
2) There was apparently some interesting banter between the two main characters. That, I can always get behind.
Let's start by saying this book isn't remotely light and fluffy. Lakey and Cam meet as kids in a foster home. Their first interaction consists of Lakey stabbing him in the hand with a fork when he tries to take "her" cereal, and they were inseparable ever since.
Things were tough for them, as we often hear can be the case for foster kids. Some of the worst things we've heard happened to them. It's how Cam ended up in juvie - He was protecting Lakey from a predator, and was arrested for it.
Years later, he gets out at the age of nineteen. He goes straight to Lacey, seventeen, who had been in a home run by nuns (and not good ones). The moment she sees he's out, she leaves and they start their own lives together. Of course it isn't easy now, either. No one wants to hire a criminal with Cam's charges, but he finally decides to take up underground fighting through a sketchy contact he had. This seems to change their lives for the better... until things get ugly.
Despite the fact it seems impossible that they'd be connected, it seems the people who ran the demented nun-run foster home and the underground fighting have something in common. Powerful people who don't like those who don't listen to their every demand and stay in line. There's something dark and dangerous going on, things that have affected Lakey and Cam both, but neither remember what due to blacking out and suddenly losing hours of their lives without explanation.
They know it'll have to be dealt with someday... but for the time being, they have each other, and that's enough. Their relationship isn't typical by any means. They're rough, they're psycho... but they have a deep understanding of each other, they get each other, and love is much too simple of a word for what they feel for each other. They just work, and they wouldn't have it any other way.
This is NOT your typical romance. It's dark, a bit deranged, but the couple will burn the world down for the other and dance in the flames. At the end of this prequel, they are able to ride off into the sunset, but there's much more to come.

Broken Shadow by Harbor Groves absolutely consumed me from beginning to end. This book is dark, brutal, emotional, and completely addictive. If you're looking for morally gray characters, obsessive love, violence, and a true "us against the world" romance, this book delivers all of it and more.
What makes this story stand out is the relationship between Cam and Lakey. Their bond is intense, unhealthy by normal standards, and yet impossible not to root for. After spending four years apart, their reunion is everything I hoped for—violent, passionate, and full of emotion. The fact that Lakey punches Cam hard enough to split her knuckles before kissing him perfectly captures who they are as characters.
My favorite part of the entire book was when Lakey went after Dragger. The way she toyed with him before killing him showed exactly how dangerous and protective she is. Anyone who threatens Cam becomes her target, and I loved seeing that fierce, obsessive side of her personality. So many books have the male character playing the protector, but Lakey is just as ruthless when it comes to defending what is hers. She doesn't hesitate, doesn't apologize, and doesn't show mercy.
Harbor Groves does an incredible job creating two protagonists who are deeply damaged yet completely devoted to each other. Neither Cam nor Lakey are good people, but that's what makes them so fascinating. Their loyalty runs deeper than morality, and their love feels powerful, raw, and all-consuming.
The underground fighting, dark conspiracy elements, and constant sense of danger kept me hooked throughout the story. Every chapter revealed another layer of trauma, manipulation, and secrets from their past. The dual POV was especially effective because it allowed me to understand both Cam's and Lakey's mindsets.
Be aware that this is a very dark psychological romance with heavy themes and morally black characters. It also ends on a cliffhanger that left me desperate for the next book.
If you love dark romance, anti-heroes, possessive characters, ride-or-die relationships, and stories where two broken people become each other's entire world, Broken Shadow is a must-read.

Cam is out and kept his promise to Lakey. They are now together and trying out life without people telling them what to do.
But Lakey has blackouts and scars she can't explain. They did something to her at the place she was in and she can't remember what.
As they are trying to build a life for themselves, they realize that the system that failed them before doesn't let them move on. And then they have people after them and they don't understand why but are trying to find out.
For me, this book shows us what kids who were failed by the system and failed again when they try to build a life for themselves become. It shows how a society fails to protect kids and instead tries to use them as weapons for their own purposes. In this book Cam and Lakey let the darkness consume them and there is a lot of bloodshed that will follow them.
What i loved most about this book is that no matter how twisted, psycho and monstrous Lakey and Cam become, they are always there for one another and they would burn down the world to make sure they stay safe. How they are and always will be what each other needs. How they accept each other with all their flaws. And I love how he is willing to give her anything she needs without ever judging her or thinking less of her.
Something happened to them. Something very cagey and weird and they don't seem to remember, having holes into their memories. I can't wait to see what comes next for them and what is hidden into the holes.

What a dark brutal emotional read that I was completely addicted to and devoured!! Transfixed!

I can’t wait I’m diving right into the next book! Such an intense dark read, Cam And Lakes bond is so intense, and unhealthy but impossible to ignore and not root for them with everything they have been through and go through! Full of passion and emotion, it’s hard not to get sucked in!
My favorite part of the book was when Lakey went after Dragger. The way she toyed with him
shows exactly how dangerous and protective she can be. Anyone who threatens Cam becomes her target, and I loved seeing that fierce, obsessive side of her personality. Lakey is just as ruthless when it comes to defending what is hers. She doesn't hesitate, doesn't apologize, and doesn't show mercy. She is a baddie! I loved her! Lakey and Cam are damaged and not very good people but I loved seeing such strong loyalty to each other and the passion! So powerful and raw! And consuming. The underground fighting with the dark conspiracies had me hooked and turning pages as quick as I could. I loved the dual pov to understand both characters better! Such a dark physiological thriller I’d definitely recommend this if you’re a dark romance thriller read!

Broken Shadow is book one of the Shattered Souls series. Its a prequel and pucks up picks up immediately after the events of Wicked Sinners. It continues to tell the story of Cam and Lakey. They are both trying to live together taking care of themselves after Cam get released from prison. But strange things are happening where Lakey has scars she doesn’t know where they came from and holes in her memory she cant remember things. Also they have people watching them and are trying to piece everything together and work out whats going on.
Another great book, very dark but I couldn't put it down. It was great to see how their lives started and see how they manage after being reunited. I also enjoyed seeing them not only work together as one but how not only was Cam protective of Lakey but Lakey also being Protective of Cam maybe more so. I loved how she is a strong female character who didn't think twice to hurt someone who hurt her guy. Their love is crazy but so strong. Can't wait for the next chapter in their story
Another great book, very dark but I couldn't put it down. It was great to see how their lives started and see how they manage after being reunited. I also enjoyed seeing them not only work together as one but how not only was Cam protective of Lakey but Lakey also being Protective of Cam maybe more so. I loved how she is a strong female character who didn't think twice to hurt someone who hurt her guy. Their love is crazy but so strong. Can't wait for the next chapter in their story

I am totally in love with these wonderful characters. And I devoured this emotional, suspenseful, steamy story with two beautifly broken souls.
Lakey and Cam are finally reunited. They are each other's ying/yang. Two people who have been together since they were 7&9 through deep cruel trauma and love each other deeply. They are each other's ride or die.
This story is very well written. I enjoyed all the characters. All the crazy, bloody, vigilante, psycho love these two share.
I'm so happy they have each other through the hell life has given them and the secret society that seems to control them behind the scenes. And after the cliffhanger I am on the edge of my seat for the next book.

Book one kept my attention the whole way through. I loved that you got more background on them but you also get to see how Cam and Lake grow with each other. Their arrangements to get what they need out of life is amazing. You can fell the love they have for each grow and the sex…. Good for them. The suspense of what their going through is a cliffhanger in itself and I can’t wait to find out what happens with “the father”.

Broken Shadow pulled me in right away, especially after reading the trigger warnings and tropes. Dark psychological romance, morally gray characters, obsessive love, underground fighting, and a ride or die relationship made this impossible to pass up. Cameron and Lakey’s story is intense, emotional, and heartbreaking as they fight for each other while overcoming obstacle after obstacle.

That they very much are both FMC and MMC and what can I say I liked it. Finally a FMC that is just as unhinged as all these MMC's. I love the fact that while he is very protective of her she is even more so of him. I also truly adore the fact that he try to warn everyone that messes with him to not under estimate the pain and trouble she going to cause them but no one ever listens and always under estimates her.

I really loved this, it was all very real. The characters were funny and I liked how they fed off of each other. I liked how it showed them having a rough start and not just another billionaire romance which I love don’t get me wrong but there’s a lot of books out there In that genre. I enjoyed the story being real and how he was very cool and she was more crazy but he loved her for it anyways.

I loved this. You've got that chilling aurora going on with a healthy dose of banter. This story is a happy one but it shows how strong love can be when you continuously fight for it. Cameron and Lakey's story is worth the read. They've been through so much but together their determined to find peace.

Long story short, I absolutely love Cam and Lakey but this book kind of lost the hold it had on me when it turned into smut+gore. Didn't have any problems getting through it and continuing to second prequel but I'm rather scared if it goes into more gore+smut instead of developing the story and the characters.
Still a decend 4* read because still rooting for Cam and Lakey.

Finally after 4 years, Cam and Lakey are reunited. They have nothing to their name so they find ways to make money and provide. Cam joined an underground fighting club and it able to make money to provide for himself and Lakey. They don't have it easy but they have each other and that is all that matters. Both of them sense that something else is going on and they are determined to find out what.

Cam and Lakey are settling into their freedom. They are a perfect match for each other both broken and dangerous. We are seeing Lakey's violent side in this book. She will do anything for Cam and that includes getting ride of anyone permenantly who comes between them or is a danger to Cam. We have already seen what Cam will do for Lakey.

After years apart Lakey and Cam are finally together. But things are far from a happy ending. They are doing what the mist to get by and survive. There is still mystery especially when Cam is watching from the shadows and since I will not be spoiling it, you will have to read it. The story continues.

Broken Shadow pulled me in from the very start and had me turning page after page. Lakey and Cam are perfect for each other. I don't go into details as I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. I can't wait for the next book! Loved it!.

I do like dark romance. And I feel like this would fall into that genre. I think it's very well written it's got a good plot a good characters. It's a really good book and the only reason I didn't get it five stars is because it really wasn't my cup of tea but because it was so written and good plot and everything else I thought it still really good book

Intense, emotional, violent, dark. That’s what this story is. So much going on when these two feel like it’s them against the world. Fighting for a place, a life, something more. This was an excellent story. I felt this deep inside. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

This is the second book in the Shattered Souls series. Cam and Lakey’s story continues. I am totally hooked on their dark story. It’s heartbreaking and spicy. I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping episode and can’t wait to read the next! I am voluntarily leaving this review

From page one I was hooked on Lakey and Cam’s story. Two kids who found each other and were destined to take on the world together.
The characters draw you in and you can’t wait to find out what happens next. Lakey and Cam were dealt a hand in life that no one should have to endure. They fought to get back to each other and ready to burn the world and those that wronged them.

Cam & Lakey!! love getting their backstory!
This one picks up after Sinner with Cam & Lakey reuniting!! It’s a wild ride and they are perfect for eachother!! They find their rhythm with life and starting fresh learning what they need to do to quench this “need” inside them! It’s not sunshine & roses. It’s twisted, dark and crazy but I loved every unhinged page!!
