Mia Harper's life now is radically different than the one she has known. She lives in a world with no power, no phones, and practically no human contact. She and her best friend, Andrew Greene, are raising her two-year-old sister Jilly, on their own.

Mia, Andrew, and Jilly have been living in the dark for ten months; ever since a Coronal Mass Ejection changed life as they knew it. They made the best of it, and have settled into a routine, until...

A stranger appears out of nowhere as summer approaches, shattering their peace. How will these three survive a hostile government, old enemies, and learning to become a family- all while scraping together enough food to fend off starvation?

I stared at the biography, couldn't think of anything interesting to write, and decided to say screw it.

"The only way for evil to win is for good men to do nothing."

A quote in this book that pretty much says it all. Sarah Jayne is a terrific writer. This series gives the possible senario of big government gone bad. Not all, just some. Enough to wreck the rebuild after a solar flare destroys the infrastructure of normal life. Now on to book 3. Kudos!!!

Excellent 2nd book in series.

I really like this series. Only thing I don't really like is how this baby turned toddler does everything right & on her own mostly. I don't care how often a 2 yr. old hangs with older kids, she's not gonna potty train herself just because she sees these kids doing it. Also feel when confronted by the Army, with all those people who are armed & not trained, someone would've started a war by shooting someone. Too many people with guns & everyone was patient??? I don't think so. I'm looking forward to the 3rd book, though. Good story. Most apocalyptic stories are unbelievable, if you ask me. I just read them for entertainment value. This one entertains.

Excellent!!

Well that was really good. Some parts were a bit repetitive but overall the book was really good. Read book 1 though before this otherwise you'll be lost. The story has moved along at a good pace and I'm really looking forward to book 3. If this book were indicative of what could be if faced with these circumstances we, the human race, are in for a world of hurt. Great book and I highly recommend it to anyone out there interested in post apocalyptic scenarios. Thanks to the author!!!

Too depressing

I guess it's good that it's realistic, but the whole story overall is very depressing. I like to have a bit more hope that they aren't completely screwed. But that's just me, I prefer feel good stories and this one isn't one for me.

Wow did not think the writer could keep up the fast pace and intrigue, but I was rocked by how fast I read this. Couldn't put it down.

Loved that the characters have grit, intelligence and good intentions, while still giving us a little bit of soapy love and animosity

Great read!

The journey these young adults are on is making for a fantastic read. The depth that the author has written them in is perfect! They go from kids to adulthood in a snap because they have to and are learning everything the hard way. So far I love this series!!

Still with it

While I am liking this series,it is time to give the love section a rest.We all know how much they love each other. And even OK with that she is not ready for sex yet,but it is taking up too much of the story.

Prison- after the Flare bk2

I definitely loved the faster paced story lines in book two. There is a lot more subterfuge and rebellion in this installment, along with a lot more answers. I am excited to see where the story will go from here.

This series should be read in sequence. The characters are interesting and the scenarios are fairly realistic.

Excellent

A great follow up from the first book in the series. Mia and Andrew are both relatable and loveable characters.

Love this series

The characters in this series are so well fleshed out that you quickly feel like you know them. You quickly find yourself cheering for them to make it.
