Epic adventure in a strange world by the author of "The War of the Black Tower: An Epic Fantasy Trilogy".
A thousand years ago, the sea began to change, and the change spread.
Now the boiling, toxic, lightning-wreathed Atomic Sea has encompassed every ocean on the planet, and the creatures that live in it have become mutated and unnatural. The sea's taint can infect any human who comes in contact with it or with unprocessed seafood, killing them . . . or altering them. No one knows why the sea has become this way or what it portends, only that it's irrevocably changed the world.
Meanwhile, world war has erupted, and the small country of Ghenisa, like many others, is tottering on the brink of collapse under the onslaught of the Empire of Octung. Middle-aged widower Dr. Francis Avery is aboard a military whaling ship far out on the Atomic Sea when a series of murders onboard propels him down a rabbit-hole of danger and terror unlike any other.
Soon he becomes aware of a spy on the ship, but that's just the beginning. With the help of the grizzled whaler Janx and a mysterious woman named Layanna, he will embark on an epic quest to save Ghenisa from Octung and unravel the secrets of the Atomic Sea.
˃˃˃ This is the fourth volume of a multi-part saga of epic fantasy / science fiction adventure and high stakes in an awe-inspiring world unlike any you've ever seen before. Welcome to the world of the Atomic Sea.
Raised in Austin, Texas, Jack Conner is the bestselling author of the Black Tower Trilogy. He's an ardent fan of fantasy, horror and weird fiction, and writes them all. He's lived all over the United States and has traveled across the world, but recently he's moved back to his beloved Austin.
Hildra's been shot by Sheridan, the traitor! The freedom fighters are in dire straits! Sheridan stole The Device! The original band of resisters (Avery, Layanna, Janx and Hildra), must again, rely on themselves and their wit to save the planet. As they race after Sheridan, in the ancient subway car, Avery ignores the shaking/rattling car; he strives to save Hildra who's lost so much blood and her lung's been hit! Can he save her? There's tension, anger and guilt between Avery and Janx because of Sheridan; and tension, attraction and repulsion between Avery and Layanna due to the sacrifices made! Come on people! You've got work to do! Get yourselves under control and DO it! So much is happening during and after the subway chase! So many harrowing events occur along the way. My heart was racing as myhands continually turned the pages! Thank you for this inspiring and thrilling portrayal, Mr. Conner! Ready for Part five!
The ideal and story is quite interesting and makes you think my issue was how audle one started by just throwing into the story with no background information about the story or the characters. I will say it keep you interested but sometimes you are not given information to understand the plot or storyline slowly you do finger out the plot and storyline see so many you get lost from one to another and you are left having to backtrack and read or listen again to try to figure what is happening. The author did a great job in writing the story but a bit more information in some areas would have been good. The narrator also did an awesome job bringing the story and characters alive. So my recommendation is try it out I did like and will finish the rest of the series
I listened to the whole series. Man, the poor narrator. If you ever want a series to listen to for a drinking game, this is the the series. Fantismal, interdementional* and a few other words. If you don't have the background of this story down by the 3rd book, you have not been paying attention. The word count on this series would have been half of what it is if at some point, the author stopped repeating the descriptive words used on the guns and other beings that we already knew what they were. The premise for the story is decent and the characters were okay. My favorite was the big guy! Loved him.
After reading the first three books in this series I felt somewhat jaded so I decided to postpone reading the rest of the series for a while. Now, many months later I started on Book 4 and I'm glad I did. It didn't take long to pick up the thread again and I enjoyed this book immensely. As usual it ended on a cliffhanger and I'll be starting the next one very soon. Hopefully the ending will prove worthy of the body of this saga as it's been a hell of a good read till now.
There are some awkward scenes in this #4, I really did not like some of the so it's getting the 4⭐
The lovecraftian world created by Jack Conner is really good if you let yourself immerse in it. The storyline seems far from any possible conclusion, by the time I am writing this there are 11 volumes out there, thus far the format of the story holds 2 different background places per book, each with roughly half the book, and each "subplotting" its own dangers and challenges, but never going far from the main plot keeping things well connected. As for the characters, this volume focus mainly on Avery again, unfortunately his still lacks development and I think we will not get much more than some small comments on that. Sheridan also had some good evolution this time. Recommend for people that wish some different stuff and are not too much impressed by gruesome, also that had read volumes 1 to 3.
Lots of stuff happens and the factions in the world are becoming increasingly complex, which is great, and the protagonist is becoming irksome with his stupid decisions, which is annoying.
Another great adventure. The ending was outstanding with the epic battle at the necropolis. What an amazing world the author has created. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
The adventure continues, with our increasingly desperate protagonists struggling to accomplish a perilous mission in a world torn by war. Dr. Francis Avery has become separated from his companions and is now a prisoner of Jessryl Sheridan, his one-time lover and deadly enemy, a servant of the Octung Empire and its alien masters, and the fate of a weapon that could end the war for either side is up in the air. The two of them are forced into an uneasy partnership as they must rely on each other to survive a war zone populated by mutant monsters and devastated by space age steampunk tech powered by eldritch aliens from beyond.
Will Avery escape and reunite with his band of comrades?
The theme for this book could be summed up as: secrets revealed and sins of the parents. Here the reader learns long-buried secrets behind the motivations of some of the key players in the game. Secrets that strike very near to Avery's own heart. Sheridan, one of the most dangerous and enigmatic villains of the story, is given a much greater page-count and readers at last come to understand the reason for betraying her homeland to the Octung Empire and their foul alien gods.
On the minus side, the book is a bit on the short side, but a lot of action is packed into the screen.
Avery, Layanna, Janx and Hildra screaming through an underground tunnel system headed for who knows what. They land in an ancient city and what they find there will give you the chills. Sheridan is still on the loose and creating havoc for the group and there's a new character added that will utterly amaze you. All in all the whole four books so far have been excellent. Jack Conner is an excellent story teller, I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
Hello, this is a really great story. Very intense in a thinking kind of way. Extremely well written and very interesting. Keep up with good work. Thanks.
