DNF after 179 pages! I should have done this months ago, but I have thought that one day will I be brave enough to finish this book. But seriously, if I do will it not be soon. And I'm doubtful that I will give this book more than 1 star. I love the original book by Sidney Sheldon, but this one is not even worthy of being called a sequel...

***********SPOILER ALERT **********************

Tracy Whitney was my favorite Sidney Sheldon character, having read all his novels. So you can imagine I was quite excited at the prospect of a sequel. It is now that I truly understand why they say some things are better left untouched (read FRIENDS).
In an attempt to copy his style, she ruined the novel. The novel seemed rushed and very little was done to uphold the integrity of the characters. Time doesn't wait for anyone, true. But in this novel, time seemed it was in a hurry to catch a train.

My specific problems with the novel are as follows -
They are con artists - as Tilly says in her own words- the best and the second best. Jeff couldn't recognize that a con was being pulled on him? And that same woman turns put to be so bad that she gets arrested and might i add so stupidly?
Daniel Cooper leaves a note for Tracy that apparently only she can understand but she ended up needing a lot of help.
Jeff was not upset that Tracy had hidden his child from his? OMG. Jeff is ok letting another man raise his son? OMG. Jeff wanted to leave the business not Tracy but in the end of the novel, it seems like the absolute opposite.
After crying for each other like crazy, what sort of a reunion was that? Don't get me wrong, I don't need a happy ending all the time but it looks like the author was leaving just enough space for another sequel.
Some of the new characters were just taking up space unnecessarily , for example Agent Milton.

All in all a very poor attempt at a sequel to a fantastic novel.

"Usually, when people get to the end of a chapter, they close the book and go to sleep. I deliberately write a book so when the reader gets to the end of the chapter, he or she must turn one more page."
------ Sidney Sheldon, the late American author who has over 300 million books in print.

The world's most notable crime author, Sheldon's legacy is now taken up another best-selling author, Tilly Bagshawe, who has held the position quite remarkably. This time, she writes another sequel to another greatest creation of Sheldon, If Tomorrow Comes, named, Chasing Tomorrow. Well, in one word- the book is thrilling and intriguing but if you are a die-hard fan of Sheldon, then Bagshawe's novel will not intrigue you that much, it might leave you with a frown on your fact at the end of the book!

Synopsis:
Chasing Tomorrow begins right where If Tomorrow Comes ended- right in the middle of a plane journey, but in a different era. Tracy is going to rob the worlds most notorious and one of the richest man Pier. But wait! That's not the real story, for so many years, Tracy and her partner-n-crime, Jeff had been a con-artist. And now they are all set to get married. Finally they both found their one true love. But it seems Tracy's fantasy of a being a married woman is not turning out to be that well mostly because when a twenty-something girl is crushing on Tracy's most handsome husband, Jeff. That sounds like a regular marriage drama! Where's the 'THRILL/MURDER/RAWNESS'? The story's just getting started. Eventually, Tracy left Jeff, after Jeff's slip-up with that twenty-something girl and Tracy get vanished into thin year. Turn the page and you find Tracy eight years later in her home-country-America! But when a ghost from Tracy's past surfaces up and challenges her, it seems to Tracy that she indeed has so many unfinished business to put dirt on her burned past's ashes, since this was the tomorrow she was expecting for herself and she needs it to be perfect without any rivals on her way!

Well, this book didn't turn out to be that exciting like Bagshawe's previous novel, Angel of the Dark, which was in one word- brilliant! Tracy Whitney, Sheldon's protagonist seems to have withered away with time. She didn't have that passion to kill or to take revenge; instead she's more homely who loved fantasizing about her future. A girl with a broken past is now relenting upon her life. Her anger has died away. Moreover, like everyone says that it's predictable, I too will agree with that. Since a Sidney Sheldon fan will always be a Sidney Sheldon fan, no matter whoever comes and mimics his writing style. Well Bagshawe has tried and also tried to write those Sheldon sequels in Sheldon's flawless style, and for that I'd like to hats off to the author, since she almost sounds like him every time. The characters are one a kind, like reading about them will make you feel hell yeah! I know this chick so well. Raw and passion was present in Bagshawe's writing style and I loved that.
The only con would be the plot- it was obviously predictable, unlike Sheldon's riveting plots.
No, I'm not saying that it didn't had any twists to make Chasing Tomorrow riveting, yes there were lots of unexpected twists and turns, which will ultimately leave you with more knots in your brain, but being a die-hard fan of Sheldon, for me those knots were not that complex to open them up.
While reading Sheldon's books, you are bound to get the chills down your spine, since there is too much blood and sex, which will make your skin burn with passion, and this, is what lacks from Bagshawe's books!

Verdict: Read this book to unwind yourself on a boring weekend!

This is a sequel to "If Tomorrow Comes". The first book was written by Sidney Sheldon and a different author has taken over the series. In this one Tracy and Jeff are married and left the con business for a normal life. It does not take.

In my experience when a different author takes over established characters from an author it doesn't work. Sadly that was the case with this one. There were several reasons why I felt this way. The first book was written way back in the eighties and was a product of its time. It was a fun beach read that was full of exciting cons where it tended to be more of a game than physical harm. This one could not decide what it wanted to be. At times it tried to be like the first book but it could not do it successfully. It did not have the same flair as its predecessor. It also tried to be a cop procedural thriller novel which does not work here. This one was written more recently and the author did a time jump with technology and other areas while the characters did not. We went from characters having a walkman to them having smart phones. It was a little disconcerting. But the main reason this book did not work was that the author did not capture the essence of the characters. It really felt like the author had the idea for this story and after it was done decided to use these characters. It did not work and fans of these characters will be disappointed.

Honestly this book met my expectations as I really did not expect much. I had a feeling it would not be the best book. I really don't care for a new author handling characters and the story from a different author. Something always seems off and that was the case with this one. But my curiosity always seems to win out. I wish it did not as I enjoyed the first book with the characters. This author put these beloved characters on a path that I believe the original author would have never placed them on.

1000000 STARS!!!

description

I think this might be the best book I have ever read in my entire life!!!!!
I can't breathe, I just can't. It's awesomeness is suffocating me! Okay that was lame.

"For Tracy Whitney, tomorrow had finally come."

This is a "kind of" sequel to If Tomorrow Comes and it was even better than that one! The characters, plot, suspense, creepy psychopathic serial killer? It has it all!!! This book was actually written by Tilly Bagshawe after Sydney Sheldon passed away. It's already so hard to write your own book with your own ideas, imagine how hard it is to step into another author's shoes and continue his previous work? It's too damn hard. You need to have a good connection to the previous plot of the previous book and create links with the previous plot to make the readers flip out and faint, you need to have the same writing style to convince the readers that nothing has changed, and most of all YOU NEED TO BE FLIPPING PHENOMENAL if you want to continue the work of a legend like Sydney Sheldon. And Tilly Bagshawe, she frigging nailed it! The plot was BEAUTIFUL. LITERALLY. Even better than If Tomorrow Comes if not less. Her writing, descriptions...ahhh mind blowing!! I don't think even Sydney Sheldon could have done a better job!

description

At every page I died, every word was so intoxicating! I even wondered why people would get addicted to drugs when there were books like these!! And after reading many books with Damsels in distress, this book was so refreshing! And when it ended, I could actually hear my heart shatter.

I wish this goddamn book had never ended!

Sidney Sheldon's If Tomorrow Comes was glitzy and glamorous, I felt Bagshawe's sequel was trashy/tacky in comparison. I am thankful I won this book to read, but I'm not going to ass kiss here, I felt the strong, classy, independent Tracy Whitney who loved being a con artist in If Tomorrow Comes turned into a maternal, bumbling idiot, who's a push over and not that much of an interesting character. I also didn't like how it went from being set in the 80s in the first book to being somewhere where One Direction and iPhones existed. Either it should have been set in the 80s to 90s, or be set in the present day where Tracy Whitney is in her 50s. The timeline made literally no sense.
I didn't want to be one of those reviewers who hates on Bagshawe for ruining the Sheldon universe but unfortunately I have to agree with them, I am a Sheldon fangirl but I don't mind she did sequels, I just wish she did a better job.

1) Tilly Bagshawe is not Sidney Sheldon.
2) Sequel to one of the best books ever written is doomed to be labelled as disappointing.

If Tomorrow Comes is one of my favourite books. Sadly Tilly Bagshawe butchered both the characters and the story with this book. I was very disappointed in reading this.

She keeps mentioning the events of the previous book, and it gets annoying pretty fast. It's pretty obvious as to who the bad guy is, but he's not mentioned until late in the book. The thefts are mundane - the author should probably watch a few more detective shows.

The main reason any fan of the first book would read this book is for Tracy and Jeff. However they seem to be background characters, with the story focussing a lot on Jean, a new character. There is no thrill, no excitement. And the ending really pissed me off.

This book has been deleted from memory, and will not be thought of again.

Sidney Sheldon's most prominent and persevering courageous woman - Tracy Whitney of If Tomorrow Comes- - returns in an amazing spin-off loaded with energy, anticipation, and stunning turns. Tracy Whitney never thought she needed to settle down. With her smooth and nice looking accomplice, Jeff Stevens, she'd been in charge of a portion of the world's most surprising heists, savoring the peril and power of life on the wild side. In any case, there is as yet one thing missing from Tracy's ideal life: a child. At first 'going straight' feels like another enterprise. Be that as it may, as the months pass and Tracy's ached for pregnancy doesn't occur, she winds up longing for the adrenaline surge of the past times. At the point when a puzzling and lovely more peculiar enters their lives, Tracy and Jeff's once unbreakable organization is all of a sudden exposed. Jeff wakes one morning to discover Tracy gone, vanished without a follow. For over 10 years, a broken Jeff battles to bear on knowing Tracy is out there some place. In any case, whatever remains of the world trusts Tracy Whitney is dead, until a progression of homicides drives a persistent French criminologist to her doorstep. Eleven casualties, in ten distinct urban areas, more than nine years- - the greater part of the urban areas where Tracy pulled off some of her most splendid tricks. Somebody is focusing on her, controlling a progression of irritating occasions and raising frightening phantoms she thought were dead and covered. By and by, this cunning lady winds up out on the edge, playing the chances in a urgent session of roulette. Be that as it may, this time, she has everything to lose- - including the man she can't overlook. Tomorrow has come finally. Be that as it may, it isn't the future Tracy anticipated"- -

Why couldn't it be a happy ending?!

I couldn't understand the whole thing of becoming straight and starting a new life. Beginning of the book Tracy wants to stay a con-artist, she's bored of living a decent life and Jeff is totally involved in the museum and turning over a new leaf. But at the end of the book, Tracy doesn't want to be with Jeff coz he went back to his old ways (like she had wanted him to) and she was now happy being a mother and home-maker (which she totally hated and was bored of) -_-

If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon was one of, if not the first "grown up" book I read when I was about 13 years old. I loved Tracy Whitney and how she and fellow thief/con artist Jeff Stevens were rivals who fell in love. Chasing Tomorrow, written by Tilly Bagshawe in the style of the late Mr. Sheldon (and fully authorized by his estate), is the sequel.

It was pretty funny though, that there seemed to be a Twilight Zone-ish time warp - I read the first book in the mid '80s, and it was written with the corresponding technology at that time. Tracy was on the plane and on her way to meet Jeff, when she discovered that her seat mate was the elusive Maximilian Pierpont, whom she and Jeff had been itching to rob - then the story ended. Chasing Tomorrow begins almost immediately with a flashback to the plane scene, and its continuation. Book one ended on the plane in the mid '80s or thereabouts, then book two began on the same plane, same flight, but in the 21st century? Once I wrapped my head around that concept, I began to relax and enjoy the story.

Ms. Bagshawe did a superb job in writing the story, but I can't help feeling sad at the way it ended. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book.

This book takes off from where Sidney Sheldon's “If tomorrow comes” ends. Tracy Whitney and Jeff Stevens as scamsters are fascinating characters – intelligent, independent and charming. Unfortunately, that is about the best part of the book though.

The story shuffles between incidents in their past and current. They have been involved in a number of heists from the wealthy, corrupt and insensitive. Tracy and Jeff get married and try to live a normal life. Tracy though soon gets a little disillusioned with the lack of action. At about that time, their relationship suffers a setback after Jeff accuses Tracy of infidelity. As it happens there are others involved who want to get back at them.

Tracy moves to the US, and raises their child in a quiet environment. As it happens, the past catches up with Tracy. Her help is sought by an Interpol investigator to solve a series of murders which happen very close to heists of the kind she used to pull off earlier. And she is the only one who can now save Jeff's life after he is kidnapped, a way to repay him for saving her life once.

While the characters are good – the book disappoints. More than a flowing story, it comes across as events strung together by force. The twists towards the end with the sudden appearance of a devious character do not make good reading either.

In fact, the book ends in a way that it leaves the option of a continuation very much possible. If a further book does come out, hopefully, it will be better than this one.

Tilly Bagshawe has managed to capture the essence of the Sidney Sheldon's novels in many a ways. The impossible heist pull offs, the description of chemistry between characters and everything else has been captured wonderfully. The only flaw in my opinion remains to be the fact that the novel is a tad bit predictable. During the course of reading the novel, I was disappointed to find that my assumptions were proving to be read with each turn of the page. Finally, even the end was disappointing. As a whole, Bagshawe does justice to Sheldon, but there were a few things that could have been woven better.

If Tomorrow Comes was one of my favorite books as a teen. I loved the character of Tracy Whitney because she was strong, smart, and beautiful. She overcame a horrible situation with her wits and her compassion. I was very excited to see what happened next.

Well, I wish I never picked up this book. It was poorly written. The actions of the characters made little to no sense. The continuation of the story was very dissatisfying. I think I will just pretend I never read it so that Tracy and Jeff can live on as I imagined they would when I was a teen. Definitely skip it.

I remember liking "If Tomorrow Comes" so I picked this up on a whim. Maybe it was the different author, but this seemed poorly written, trite, and did not keep my interest. I started skimming it and then skipped ahead to the ending, and nothing I read made me wish I'd gone back and read the whole thing.

All of my favorite elements ~ conman ship, psychopath, suspense and thrill , all are here, but the brilliant sparkle of "If Tomorrow Comes" is somewhat lost. Not the same glamorous and independent Tracy whom I loved. Also, the ending is achingly sad.
Still worth reading, though! :D

Let me be straight..It was just an average read ...

I liked some characters and definitely hated some characters...

I loved Jeff till the point when he blamed Tracy for cheating on him ..
Was he doing something different?
I guess no!!

Infact he was being dumb all this while ..

And this character Rebecca she is just......
I would rather not describe her ..

Tracy is an interesting character .....

If I judge Sidney Sheldon books I would say they are awesome but this book specially is just overrated in my humble opinion...

If you liked it well and good ...

If you havent tried it better don't give it a try or read once and let me know what you feel about it ....

Any book recommendations?

I’m a sucker for a good story about con-men and women. There’s just nothing like pulling off a good caper, especially when it’s the less savory people who get conned. Sidney Sheldon, one of the most popular writers for TV in the 1960’s and 70’s and who then turned to writing novels in the 1980’s, was adept at creating interesting characters and subjecting them to all sorts of thrilling conditions. By no means have I read all of his works but of those that I have, If Tomorrow Comes is one of my favorites. It’s a very nice novel about running cons and featured the character of Tracy Whitney, a girl who suffered immensely at the hands of fate and got into the con game largely for revenge. She was definitely a character worth rooting for, even as she became one of the most elite high-end thieves in the world.

And now, Tracy Whitney is back. I was very happy to win a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway so I could see what happened next to these characters. Author Tilly Bagshawe has penned several “sequels” to Sheldon’s novels as she has picked up his mantle and very accurately captured Sheldon’s voice. This novel picks up with Tracy living the happily-ever-after scenario that we had all hoped for her after the first book. Tracy and her husband, (and former partner in crime), Jeff Stevens are settling down as it were but it isn’t long before people from their past intrude and force them back to their old lives. Tracy and Jeff put the “artist” in con artist, and their reputation sometimes works against them, especially when they need to work with law enforcement as happens in this novel.

This is a nicely plotted novel and definitely kept me turning the pages. Once again I rooted for the main characters and hoped the plot twists wouldn’t leave them too battered and bruised. The author brings her A-game to this one and it shows. Tracy and Jeff don’t always make the best decisions and that leads them further into trouble. Sometimes it seemed like I was watching a movie-of-the-week from the 1980’s, but then again, that was Sidney Sheldon’s style. I appreciated that not all challenges were neatly wrapped up and the ending is very appropriate, even if somewhat bittersweet. I suppose there could be another novel with these characters but I think this tale is nicely complete.

Make sure to read the first book, If Tomorrow Comes, before beginning this one. Many plot points tie in directly to the first book and several shocking events won’t have much of an impact if you don’t.

This book is the sequel to If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon. That book is one of my all time favorites. The sequel is written by someone else who writes exactly like Sheldon. Sheldon died a few years ago but you would never know it by the writing style of Tilly Bagshawe who is the author of Chasing Tomorrow. This book is worth the read, edge of your seat in some places and uses the same words as Sheldon did all those years ago such as heist, caper, pulling off scams without ever getting caught. A great piece of fiction although I was disappointed with the ending.

Tracey Whitney is someone I aspire to be!! She’s such a bad ass in every way. You don’t HAVE to read them in order, each can stand on their own. I read ‘Reckless’ first and i was sucked in and now have read every single item Tilly has written. There’s never a dull page, always something happening and her books make you THINK!! Brilliant series!

Tracy Whitney is back but with big disappointment. Bold n beautiful enduring Tracy was the protagonist of Sidney Sheldon’s very famous book “If Tomorrow comes”.
Tilly Bagshawe wrote sequel and tried to recreate same magic which was done by Sidney long time ago.
Original book was divided in two parts. First part was revenge drama while second part was focused on con-artist Tracy and her thefts.
Tilly divided this book in three parts with no proper rationale. Book started with a robbery followed by Tracy and Jeff’s marriage and their new life followed by their unexpected breakup. Story then moved to ten years later when there is serial killer mercilessly killing prostitutes all over the world which has some distant relation with Tracy. Interpol officer Jin Russo appointed to investigate this case. His character is well written. While reading, sometimes we feel that Jin is the main lead character and Tracy is second supporting character.
Both murder investigation and robberies by Jeff, Elizabeth and Tracy run in parallel in the book.
It is good combination of elements like love story, drama and crime thriller. It entertains us in some parts but falls bit shorter to the expectations set from Sidney’s original book and do injustice to memorable Tracy Whitney’s character.
