Endless destruction defines human life in a world run amok. There are those who will pick the uncertainty of the alien sky, are the Tonans life or are they death?
Macey learns first hand a Tonan warrior doesn’t apologize for who or what he is or will do. In an unforgiving new world there is one who battles his heritage. Can Taz be the defender Macey needs, or are his four hundred year old decimating roots buried too deep to refuse?
Taz needs to make the decision fast. His mentor slash tormenter will come looking for him. Krish will kill Macey. Indecision rules Taz’s life until in a heartbeat he decides his fate, Macey’s fate and Earths fate. Either way—death will follow.
---------- [READING ORDER NOTE: Although books 6 & 7 are clearly indicated on the covers, the events of Defender (book 7) take place 4 years prior to those in Guardian (book 6). So to follow the story events in order, it is recommended that book 7 (Defender) be read PRIOR to book 6 (Guardian).]
Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.
From the author: Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.
I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.
I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.
I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?
Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.
If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.
This story was a little confusing at first. I recognized Taz's name, but couldn't place him. It took me a bit realize it was the family from Jinx's book and it was sort of stepping back to the beginning. I was really glad to get to go back and read his book. I absolutely loved it, and it was a bit different from the rest of the books.
C.L. Scholey New World series is one of my favorite. This book goes back to Taz's and Macey history before Roam (The Guardian book) met them and took them to Bragon. If you haven't read the Guardian I would recommend you read the Defender first and then the Guardian since it could be confusing.
Taz was sent to Earth to observe the humans by his adopted tormentor somehow father and after days of wandering around he meets Macey. He takes her to another planet when it's clear that the have stared the mating bond. There is a lot of inner turmoil happening to Taz but eventually he and Macey mate and return to Earth to her family. They find devastation at the hand of Tonans but Taz fights to keep them safe. Macey aunt, Skylar and Haven become his family next to Macey.
I hope this story was not the last one of the series and I am glad there is some continuation in the Unearthly series.
This is Taz and Macey's story, so it's stepping back in the timeline of the series. We were introduced to this couple and their little family in "Guardian". Taz is wonderful. He is sent to the Earth's surface to observe the humans by his adopted father. This is quite the culture shock for our hero. Eventually he comes across the heroine, Macey, and manages to run off with her, he even takes her to another planet for a short time. When they get back they find more devastation and Taz makes every effort to keep Macey, her aunt and the two girls they have adopted as their own, safe. It seemed strange to go back to this time in the series. It's like one long flashback. It was nice to read about how these two got together but it doesn't really move the story of the series along. I feel that "Guardian" was probably the last story in the series and this one just gives us some more of the background story. It's enjoyable and if you are a fan of the series, read it :) If you have not yet read "Guardian" you could read this first. In fact you could probably get away with reading his book as the first in the series.
2015 - Have thoroughly enjoyed reading Taz and Macey's story after being introduced to them in Guardian. Feel a little as though this book would have made more sense if it had been released before Guardian, which in turn would have given a little more depth to the Guardian story as well. That aside, still a good read in this series.
2017 - Read this book before Guardian this time and was once again thoroughly devastated for Taz for the events in his childhood - just heartbreaking. I really enjoy his and Macey's story though and can't wait for them to meet up with others like them.
I loved Tax and Macey from Jinx's book, so I was already thrilled to read their novel. One of my favorite aspects of this book is the chemistry between the two. They work well together, support each other, and overcame cultural differences with grace and acceptance. I could have continued reading about them all the way up to being rescued and safe- but I am happy with the ending and plan on rereading Jinx's book as soon as possible.
Another of my favorite!!! I'm so happy to see this is about Taz as I was thinking it'll be great if we at least get a novella about this couple, and boy am I happy to read a full book and see how he got to be where he was at in the previous installment.
The timeline is actually messed up but I understand also why this book has to come after the previous one as we've been told since the beginning how utterly awlful and bad the Tonans are, we need to read the previous book to prepare us for this one.
In here we're given further information and why there are ones that are not all bad but can be gentle kind and totally devoted to the loved ones.
And our H is exactly that stella example. He didn't start out wanting to be good, we see he's just as confused as he actually had no idea why he has to do stuffs and why he just couldn't stay away from h or let her get hurt. Once we got some things figured out, he became the ultimate sweetheart, willing to do everything he can to keep his family together and survive at the worst possible environment.
I really adore this guy, he didn't even plan on being a good guy, but in the end his actions spell him to be so capable of abundance love he doesn't only look after our h, but a whole accolade of people dependent on him. I love his justifying his being kind to people and his misguided belief he was being cruel when he was just doing his best in a horrible situation so people will not suffer more.
The story is also fun to read as it's more of an adventure with things going on left and right. I really had fun with this one.
