Your symptoms are not here to punish you. They are your most loyal friends, gently calling your name.
Until now, you may have thought that physical pain was a malfunction. A nuisance. You probably didn't think it could be an invitation to finish processing your old grief. Or to start setting boundaries. Or to address the shame that's gripping you.
After reading this book, you'll see how physical pain becomes the conversation your body has been trying to have with you all along.
Your Body Remembers What You're Trying to Forget is a somatic field guide to 122 physical conditions across 11 body systems. Just look up your specific health challenge — tension headaches, TMJ, IBS, hip tightness, eczema, autoimmune flares, insomnia, and far beyond — and begin there.
For each symptom, you'll
The emotional pattern driving the symptomA specific somatic exercise to address that part of the body and release what's storedA reframe to shift the old patternHolistic healing recommendations, including supplements and herbsA journaling prompt to help you see how this applies to youThis is a bottom-up approach — when we work with the body and nervous system rather than against them, the body can tap into its natural ability to heal.
You don't have to figure it out alone anymore.
I write from inside this work. I spent years carrying a long list of symptoms and a quiet belief that my body was broken, before my body began teaching me something different. This is the book I wished someone had handed me then.
I wrote it for readers of Bessel van der Kolk's The Body Keeps the Score and Louise Hay's Heal Your Body — for readers who want both the science of how emotions live in the body and the practical tools to release them. I drew on the lineages of Peter Levine, John Sarno, Stephen Porges, Wilhelm Reich, Louise Hay, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and decades of mind-body research.
When you're ready to listen to your body and learn its language, this book shows you how.
Wishing you a rich, embodied life — where emotions light you up and move through you,
I’ve always heard that the body and our emotions are one and the same, that we just need to learn how to listen to our body and understand our emotions. This book had me in AWE! I already have 2 copies in my cart because I know 2 people who can benefit immensely from this book — well, ANYONE can benefit from it, but one must be OPEN to trying something new, as weird and “pointless” as it sounds. I already started doing some of these exercises for my own benefit, and plan on having my kids join me.
Thank you so much to GoodReads giveaways, T. Klein & Publishing Innovations for this book.
oh, what an incredible read this book was. i took my time with it and approached every corner with genuine curiosity. it’s now my second favorite book after the body keeps the score.
i genuinely hope anyone struggling with pain they can’t even trace back to a memory reads this book. it’s fascinating and a little unsettling how the body can hold on to wounds long after the mind has buried them.
I’m just getting into this book, I saw someone highlighting a page about on instagram and was so curious. It’s a mix of Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life (I believe it’s that one) and Chinese medicine with just a page for each body ailment. It also has what else could be going on and then has a quote and a prompt. A nice little intro to somatic healing I believe, if nothing else a starting point for interrupting the patterns that may keep our ailments lasting longer.
After reading this book I will be able to bring these practices to life and hope they bring success. If you are looking for a light but informative read this book is a good one to pick at or simply just go to what applies to you.
