Romance - Hot Rocker

“Mind if I join you?” came a deep voice, sounding a little out of breath and dangerously close. I turned and gasped, immediately drawn to the sapphire blue eyes staring back at me.

I’m emotionally exhausted after reading this book.

Sebastian Miles is the lead singer of the band Paradox. He has just completed rehab and is looking to get his life back together after a tragic event that turned his world upside down 2 years prior.

Brooke Caldwell is a culinary chef looking to pursue an opportunity of a lifetime in LA. Brooke also has some emotional scars from her past.

Brooke has a brief encounter with Sebastian at the beach, he seems familiar to her but she can’t quite place him. While Brooke is leaving the beach she is reminded how cruel the world can really be. Sebastian finds her laying in the pathway and takes her to his place where his doctor helps her. Brooke ends up staying with Sebastian while she heals and they start to bond and grow closer.
Will Brooke get the job that will bring her to LA? Will they be able to make the distance work for them if she doesn’t?

I know that I’m supposed to be the strong one here Brooke, but I’m not. I’m sorry, but when it comes to you, I am weak.

This is the first book in the “The Not So Bad Boys of Rock” by Rhonda James. This is a great read that will take you through an emotional rollercoaster with Brooke and Sebastian. I loved Sebastians family and band mates, they added a great element to the story. There is also a huge twist that will leave quite the cliffhanger. If you like Hot Rocker romance you will love this must read series.

Oh my. This story was so sweet.

description

Seriously yall! <3

In many ways, the way that the characters story/relationship progresses reminds me of my book! (And I like to think of myself as wholly original, so it's quite big of me to admit that!) Granted, totally different story and characters, but I definitely felt a slight similarity. :)

Rock star meets chef, and they live across the country from each other. Can they make it work?

You think "rock star" and you immediately go to the "bad boy" but hence the name of the series, these boys are NOT bad boys. They are in fact sweet, romantic, utterly in love and of course a little flawed.

Kept me interested from page one and I am very much looking forward to book two! Bravo! :)

Across the Miles is a sweet love story about a chance meeting between Sebastian, a rock star, and Brooke, a rising chef. The first half of the novel takes place over one week while Sebastian and Brooke are fatefully thrown together in L.A., and the second half depicts the next three months of their long-distance relationship.

Sebastian is a tattooed, pierced, dreamy heartthrob, and as I first read about him, I imagined someone like Adam Levine -- mega-popular, wild, and probably not someone who would be kind to strangers at an L.A. beach. But Sebastian Miles is not your stereotypical “bad boy of rock”, a point that James makes emphatically in the novel. He is depicted as tender, wounded, and kind. He has grounded and genuine relationships with his band mates and family. I liked this re-imagining of the band front man, even if I still don’t really believe that stars are “just like us”!

James has Sebastian and Brooke alternate the narration of the novel, which is a technique I really like. Sometimes we get the exact same scene narrated from both perspectives, though, which felt repetitive. I want each character’s thoughts, not the same dialogue again.

There’s a review on another site that accuses Across the Miles of being a Mary Sue. That review is mean-spirited and harsh, but I see the point about the novel needing more conflict and more character failures. It’s true that both Sebastian and Brooke have had tragic circumstances in their recent pasts, so you can’t say that they have had charmed lives. But I never really doubted that their relationship would work or last, and they never do anything to significantly hurt the other. They mostly make good decisions that don’t leave lasting scars or cause trouble. Even the nightclub scene or the Hillary scene get smoothed over without much fuss. I want to see the characters at their weakest (so then I can cheer when they are at their best).

Sebastian and Brooke are an adorable couple, and I can’t help but like them and their magical love story. Get ready for lots of kissing and mushy text messages!

Brooke Caldwell is at a crossroads. With a well earned position as head chef in a popular Michigan restaurant, her best friend as her room-mate, and her life settling into an enjoyable pattern, she seems to have it all. At the same time, there is a whisper deep in her soul that there is something more out there for her. Are things too comfortable? What is this odd stirring in her heart asking her to risk? To dream big? Does she dare? What would happen if she stepped outside of her comfort zone?

Sebastian Miles has everything: money, fame, and a lifestyle many only dream of. At the end of each day, though, he is confronted again with the empty cavern his heart has become. The guilt and pain of being behind the wheel of a fatal car accident completely fills his mind. No matter how far he runs, the darkness overpowers any hope he has of change. This downward spiral is all he knows, until his friend and band member, Dek, steps in with one last chance to get his life back together. Does Sebastion have the strength to work through the pain and learn to live again? Will his heart ever know true love?

Two hearts torn apart by loss meet one sunny afternoon, and their lives are never the same. Can their love survive "Across The Miles"? Turn the pages of this first book in The Not So Bad Boys Of Rock Series by Rhonda L. James and join the band in making incredible music, one life at a time.

Sebastian Miles is the ultimate rock star suffering and drowning his pain in booze and women. Until his best friend and Band mate tell him he needs to clean up his act or else. Now coming back from rehab he vows to live healthy no matter what. Well healthy brought him to Brooke while on his way to his running path.
Brooke never new love, no she was brought up in a cold loveless home where success was the goal in life and nothing more. So now as she chases her dream of becoming a chef, she never imagined falling head over heals for the man that she has had a fan crush on. There is one problem they live on opposite side of the country. Can they make it work?
This is s love story that you will love. But most of all you will love to kick some butt cuz, let me tell you they will try your last nerve, with all the crap they put the other through. No I am not telling you which one you will want to kill cuz, well it will ruin the surprise. What I will tell you is that Rhonda gives us a story of insta love that has to fight to stay true and long. Sebastian is amazing and will make you swoon. Brooke is funny and charming and will make you laugh. Both are the couple that will make the fight for this love story so worth the time to read.

Brooke Caldwell is an aspiring chef from Michigan, who after apprenticing for five years under her mentor and friend, Donnie, gets an opportunity for an executive chef position in L.A. She flies out for an interview, and afterward goes to the beach for the first time ever. There she meets Sebastian Miles, lead singer for a famous rock band, Paradox. He was out for his daily run. They talk and feel a connection, but they go their own ways. After his run, Sebastian is heading back home, when he finds Brooke with a nasty head wound after an apparent mugging. He takes care of her which is something she is not used to. Due to a concussion, Brooke has to remain in L.A. for another ten days. She stays with Sebastian and they fall in love.
They agree to a long distance relationship. Sebastian has decided she is the one and will wait as long as he needs to. Will they be able to sustain a long distance relationship? Will Brooke let Sebastian into her life?
I enjoyed reading this book. The supporting cast is interesting. Her best friend, Jade, ends up with Dek, Sebastian’s best friend and fellow band member. It does end on a cliffhanger, so get ready and purchase book 2, Miles Apart. There are three books in this series.

Quite a Page Turner! 4.3 Stars
Sebastian Miles is the lead singer/songwriter for the rock band, Paradox. He and his band are living the high life. Their success is threatened when Sebastian turns to the dark side, due to the guilt he carries from his girlfriend’s death.
Brooke Caldwell has only ever loved one man and four years ago he died in a car accident. Her saving grace was culinary school. Now, Brooke is Chef in a restaurant in Michigan.
Brooke and Sebastian have a chance meeting. They become fast friends; their bond grows stronger when they each reveal their tragic love stories. One thing leads to another and a touching romance begins. Everyone knows their relationship is doomed to fail. She lives in Michigan and he resides in L.A. when he is not touring with Paradox.
Oh, why does love have to be so complicated? Just about the time you think things are working out the story takes a huge twist which leads to a shocking cliff hanger.
Quite the page turner!

I'm a big fan of this author, but this series didn't cut it for me. The premise sounded great, but the book just lacked content. After they met, nothing happened. It just coasted along, filled with inconsequential fluff. At the end of book 1 there was conflict to lead into book 2. The second book was much of the same; stubborn/unlikeable female character (Brooke) repeatedly breaks the heart of hot male rock star (Sebastian). More bad decisions. I actually found myself NOT rooting for this couple. While I didn't enjoy this series, I have read other books by Rhonda James and will continue to do so as she is a very talented author.

Have the tissues ready for this unbelievably heart wrenching love story!!

These boys of Paradox are loving and caring friends and lovers. I haven’t seen this type of writing in a long time. The relationship between Sebastian and Brooke will break your heart. Can’t anything go right for them? And when it goes right why does something come along and screw things up?

You have to read this book series!!! It’s so good you won’t want to put it down.

Personally, I loved this book, but then again I am the author so I guess that is probably a given. Seriously though, this book is a beautiful romance about two wounded souls that meet by fate and fall in love. There is one catch, they live on opposite ends of the country, he in L.A. and she in Ann Arbor. Their romance starts out innocent and blossoms over time, through long-distance romantic gestures and texting. Can a long-distance love last, or will the opportunity of a lifetime be the one thing that can come between them? Only time will tell.

Love this!

Oh my days!........I seem to have approached Rhonda's books a little back to front, starting with Alaska or Bust and then Jersey Girl....but it doesn't lessen the impact that the characters have on me.
Sebastian and Brooke have both experienced similar traumas in their past, that when they meet they feel an instant connection. Their story is just beautiful! The whole build up of their friendship....the long distance relationship........my heart truly melted! And then it almost stopped! What?! Rhonda you are killing me!!

I wanted to like this, I did. But everything about this book was so...sickening sweet. I skipped more than I read and I stopped right as she was leaving LA. This book is written like a teenaged girl's daydream. Totally unrealistic. It just wasn't executed very well. And I'm sorry-falling in love with someone after 2 DAYS? Come on now. Gag me.

Rockstar bad boys always have had a soft spot and an important one in my reading library – they are physically tentalizing and seductive, they are artistically geniuses and captivating, and they have a vulnerability about them that they desperately hide behind their bad boy persona. Rhonda James’ Sebastian’s bad boy image is no different than the ones I’ve come to love, but his personal struggles and the fact that her realizes he can’t continue on his current path have struck a nerve so profound with me that I rooted for Sebastian to pull himself together and become a man Brooke can depend on. I won’t lie on the fact that David was my quick crush of the novel (I’ve staked my claim on that one ladies!), but Sebastian tugged on my heartstrings while Brooke showed me what it meant to persevere when the people who surrounds you won’t give you the support you desperately need to take the leap into the unknown. But it’s not until the two meet and we get to know them that I realize that sometimes all we need is someone to understand our pain and our goals. Some days, that bond will allow us to make us stronger – and yet, we can’t ignore that our suffering and the effects of the events having led to it can also create a wall of doubt. Rhonda James brings to life love, second chances and most of all, fighting for what you believe in – which happens to be for Sebastian and Brooke their dreams, one to stop taking life and everyone in it for granted and the other to make in the culinary industry. This is, quite frankly, another hit in my books and opinion for Rhonda James and has become easily one of my favorite author in the Romance genre (and if she comes up with novels in other genres, I’ll be all over those and curious how she’ll leave her mark on the genres).

First of all, I love books that start off with a bad boy rocker and Sebastian was everything I love and more. He is in a famous band, Paradox and girls throwing themselves at his feet is something he is all too familiar with. He has a past that he is trying to escape from and definently trying to forget. While he is at the park trying to clear his head, he runs in to a pretty girl named Brooke. Brooke has a past of her own and wants to chase her dreams being an executive chef. What Brooke doesn't know is that she is talking to the guy that is the lead singer of her all time favorite band. Once she realizes it's the "Sebastian Miles," she can't believe her dream is actually coming true. With Brooke overwhelmed with meeting Sebastian, she continues her run through the park. What Brooke doesn't know is the danger that is lying ahead and that Sebastian Miles would be the one to come to her aide. I loved the chemistry that Brooke and Sebastian had from the time they met. I fell in love with them from the start and could relate to what they were going through. The only thing I didn't like was the ending. I felt like something was missing. Other than that it was written well and I am excited to start the next one. This was reviewed for HeadTripping Books by Leandra Bright.

This was a good story. I would call it when the Rock star meets the Baker. Sebastian has everything he's in a hot rock band. Girls throw themselves at him. Nothing could be better right. That's what he thinks till he meets Brooke. Brooke is well on her way to making her dreams come true. She has over come what her rough past to be one her way to being the best Chief around. Well the feelings she has for Sebastian just might make that a little harder than she thought. When Brook travels half way across the country for her dream job Sebastian becomes her knight and shining armor. Sebastian has no clue whats wrong with him but every since he laid eyes on her he has a need to protect her and be with her all the time he can't get her off him mind. Will they be able to make a relationship work when the live on opposite sides of the country? Is what there feeling simple hero worship or the real thing? Get your copy today and find out.

This was a sweet story of long distance relationships. For me it dragged just a bit, but this is a great story and sweet with a touch of spice to make a great read.

Amazing freaking book!!! You will need some tissues for this one.

Brooke is a culinary chef who has an opportunity of a lifetime in LA. She also has some emotional scars from her past that are always with her.

Sebastian is the lead singer of Paradox who just got out of rehab. Hes trying to get his life back on track after a tragedy that happened a few years back derailed him and ended with him in rehab to begin with.

Brook and Sebastian meet on a beach and at first site Brooke has no idea who he is. They spend some time together that day but when they part ways Brooke soon realizes how cruel the world can be. Sebastian finds her and takes her back to his place to help her heal. During that time they get closer to one another.

Will Brooke get her dream job? Can their new relationship withstand the distance between them until they can be together again or will it all be to much?

I am near the end of the book and feel that I should write my review before I completely finish, I can tell I will not be happy.

When Brooke goes to LA for an interview she meets Sebastian. After an accident Sebastian takes care of Brooke, they develop feelings for each other. Brooke goes back home to Michigan but the relationship still goes strong.

OK just finished the book, I can say at the moment I hate Brooke.
Wonderful story. Ends in a cliffhanger so make sure you have book 2 ready.

Holy emotions batman!! This book was one giant rollercoaster of heartache, angst, love and yearning. These two are absolutely perfect for each other. I LOVE Sebastian and Brooke together and I need to keep seeing that. Sebastian had the world at his fingertips and in a moment, it all slipped away. Spiraling down a never ending hole, he tumbled into the welcoming arms of alcohol and drugs to relieve the pain. With help from those who loved him the most, he took those painful steps towards recovery and to feeling whole. All it took was one look up to find the one who would shatter him yet complete him like he's never felt before.
Brooke has been on her own for many years. She's learned that her work is what she needs to fill her up, to ease the aching holes in her heart from her past. Following those dreams leads her to the one she never knew she was searching for. Miles may separate them but can you ever really separate souls mates? A journey of heartache, pain, joy and the sweetest love awaits you in these pages. I've fallen hard for Sebastian, not gonna let this one go. I have got to start the second one right now.

Sebastian And Brooke's story will have you mesmerized and you will not be able to put down. I read both books in two days. This is an amazing, sweet story. There are so many similarities between Sebastian and Brooke. They both lost the person they thought they loved. Sebastian feels he needs to save her and also anyone who crosses his path. It is a whirlwind relationship they fall in love within the first week. They have a long distance relationship and make it work in book one. This book does not have sex scenes in it, but it is still a very good book. It kept me interested.

Rhonda James had me from the first word, she had me experiencing what the characters were. I could not put it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

This could have been a good book but there was so much boring fluff I probably skipped over 3/4 of the book just to figure out what was going on with the story. I actually stopped completely at 90%. I have never read so much mush, nothing about a rock band except occasional practice, the adult women refused to have any sex, it was just really bad. I won't read any more of these books. I was hopeful that this would be a great Rock Star book but I was so disappointed after the first chapter. Glad it was a KU, I would have been upset if I had had to of bought this.

This book is a whirlwind romance. It leaves you thinking if people can move on from their past, fall in love instantly, and overcome many obstacles thrown at them. You are rooting for Sebastian and Brooke and can't stop turning the page and then your sleep deprived and get to the end to sort of cliffhanger. And your like what the heck...and have to start the next book to see what happens.

Ugh, so I almost gave this one star but I guess it couldn’t have been that bad if I’m gonna read the next one since this ended in a cliffhanger so I’ll give it three. It was going pretty well, although some of the dialogue felt stilted and awkward and the execution wasn’t perfect, but then there was the moment when he hangs up after talking to the guy at the club and she apologizes to him as if she did something wrong. Neither of those was good. And it kept going downhill.

Loved Sebastian. He was almost too good to be true. The alcoholism seemed to be a minor play in this book....mostly a dreamy romance. Brooke got her ego stroked a bit in London. I was bummed she couldn't communicate her decision.
I always take a star off for cliffhangers.
