After reading Little House on a Small Planet, which had far superior writing, and more interesting houses, this one seemed kind of lame. There were a couple of interesting ideas in it, but although the author seemed a little self-deprecatingly ashamed of how ridiculously self-indulgent some of the designs in the book were, he still featured a bunch of stuff no-one needs and just seems like a tactless display of wealth. On the other hand, there were a lot of really beautiful (if impractical) things in it.
This is a wonderful resource book for architects, interior designers and homeowners who are interested in designing architecturally interesting homes and spaces within homes. The book is over 500 pages in length and is loaded with interesting photographs. Topics include exterior and interior styles, exterior details, doors & windows, floors, walls & ceilings, architectural details, light and heat, kitchen fittings, bathroom fixtures, hardware and more. This book is filled with ideas and resources.
