She came to Paris to bake. She stayed to catch a killer.
After inheriting a mysterious fortune from her grandmother, Hazel Chase travels to Paris for a prestigious pastry course—and a fresh start. But on her first night at the exclusive L'Académie de la Pâtisserie Française, the director recognizes her instantly. He knew her parents, who died when she was two, and promises to share something that will change everything she believes about them.
Hours later, he's dead. And Hazel finds the body.
Trapped in a French villa with seven other students—any of whom could be the killer—Hazel must navigate a world of butter-soft croissants and bitter secrets. As the investigation unfolds and the murderer remains among them, she realizes that solving this crime might be the only way to uncover the truth about her parents.
But in a place where everyone has something to hide, the deadliest secrets often wear the friendliest faces.
Interesting and well written mystery. Enjoyable story and characters. Some good plot twists. Good transition and preparation for the next book. I am ready to dig into it.
This was my first time reading this author's work. Will definitely read the next book in the series. Fun characters and a story line that keeps you reading. While I did figure out "who dun it" right away there were enough twists and turns along the way to make me doubt my conclusion.
Great story with amazing setting and interesting characters. Would have liked a bit more tension though. Enjoyed reading, though a bit "matter of fact" as compared to your other books.
Overall a good plot, well developed characters and an atmospheric setting. I would have liked more tension displayed in the writing. It was a little more matter of fact than the story deserved. Interested enough to read the next book in the series.
