For Matlock the Hare, beginning his second Most Majelicus task is the last thing on his mind as he sets off for a quiet even’up at The Winchett Dale Inn – but he hasn’t bargained on the snoffibs, the witches, the Krettles and all the other glopped-up creatures and saztaculous events. They leave him no other choice but to begin the hunt to find the Tillian Wand in his most dangerous, peffa-twizzly and clottabussed adventure yet…
Award Winning short-story writer, author of four crime novels for HarperCollins - chronicler of the saztaculous and sometimes peffa-twizzly adventures of Matlock the Hare...
A wonderful, nail biting magical adventure. If you are the sort of adult who relishes Harry Potter, Narnia and the like, this is for you. However, you need to pick up a copy of the first book, The Riddle of the Trefflepugga Path before delving into The Puzzle of the Tillian wand. This is not the kind of series where you can jump in part way through and expect to know what's going on. The world is too complex, the plotting too intricate and the characters too deep to make full sense of without reading the first book first.
If you have already read the first book, this one is full of surprises and developments, the glorious world of the dales gets that bit more visible, more detailed, more glopped up and more saztaculous all at the same time and the story is everything you could possibly hope it might be.
I liked the first book. I LOVED this one. The pacing was much better. There were times the first book could lag or it wasn't clear what the actual plotline for some character arcs was. It was great seeing so many of the characters again--and I also REALLY loved some of the new ones. They and the creativity and humor are the driving force of this trilogy. The plot has gotten very complex, and the author likes to leave us with a lot of questions. Some were answered, but a lot more occurred. A few, including one big one, I did see coming a mile away, but there was plenty more that was a surprise. Some of it almost feels overly complicated, but I'm loving the overall story too much to care at this point. Keeping my fingers crossed the final book can hold up to this one.
