A girl with strange abilities must choose a side in a war between gangs… and the two men she loves.
In the ruined streets of Los Angeles, the game is simple. Whichever gang controls the Silvers controls the city. Their blood is the electricity that powers everything.
Lissa Metarro is a Silver who doesn't want to play the game.
Instead, she wants to live freely with her best friend, Tayna, who could maybe be more than a friend if they weren't always so concerned with hiding from the gangs and trying to make it to the next day alive.
But dreams of freedom are ruined when Tayna is killed in a horrible accident, and Lissa is kidnapped by the Cards, the most powerful and lethal gang in the city.
Lissa must learn to navigate a new life as she's forced to serve the Cards as a Silver Queen. And not just any Queen. Her strange and exceptionally powerful silver catches the attention of Gideon Valmontry, the Ace—the leader of the Cards—and a brutal man, who is used to getting what he wants. And he wants Lissa. Not just her body and her silver blood but her heart, too.
But Lissa's heart is the last thing she has that is hers alone, and she won't give it to Gideon, even if part of her wants to. Especially not when rumors of a rebel group begin to swirl and, with it, a new hope that a different sort of life might still be possible.
This is my second time reading. Only via my ears this time. Sean Masters and Heather Firth did an impeccable job. Hearing this story come to life was so amazing. It was 5 stars in 2025 and it’s 5 stars now.
This book follows Lissa who is wanted for her blood. It’s like a princess bride retelling but with gangs and how bunch of twisted lies, hidden history and a delicious love triangle
This was a reread for me. I love the book, but the audio is even better. Heather Firth and Sean Masters are spot on for this!! My 5 star read is a 6 star audio!!!
Gangs rule. Blood is power. Love means war. ⚡ Welcome to Remnants ⚡
I was hooked at a dark retelling of The Princess Bride!!
I don't even know where to start with this review!!
I was engrossed in this story from the very first page. I spent most of the book on the edge of my chair. I am not even exaggerating!
Lissa grabbed my heart strings and didn't let go. She has been through so much and continues to fight. The plot is fast-paced and did not let go of my emotions. All the pages are expertly filled with drama, tension, heartache, and relief.
