It’s amazing what is conveyed through the silence in Luke’s books and how much these characters can say with just an “okay” or a brief touch. The detail that goes into every single scene and setting SPEAKS TO YOUR FUCKING SOUL.
The relationship between Max and Lee is subtle in a way but also incredibly loud when you see the deeper meaning… what starts out as unintentional betrayal and gradually becomes more as the prophecy unfolds and the life Max thought he wanted slowly becomes something he doesn’t recognize. Lee was something outside his comfort zone. He wasn’t the familiar everyday routine he had with Jordan. It was a different kind of ecstasy that Max didn’t know he needed until it was standing in front of him.
The prophecy wording and the way everything plays out was absolutely genius!! The little things, like the tattoo and the red shirt were *chefs kiss*
"Your life will end at the hands of a bull. You may refuse its flesh. But you will not escape it."
Taurus made me emotional in ways that aren’t necessarily sad or angry or the “normal” emotions when reading about distrust and betrayal… but it was just emotionally thought provoking (if that makes any sense-it makes sense to me). I mean, I feel like a lot of us have been in a similar situation (even if small and insignificant) like the one between Max and Jordan, where we find our lives being TOO consistent. And then something small is spoken or changed in your life that makes you start seeing things in a different light… but all it took was that small thing to change everything. In Taurus, it was words spoken by “fate” that led to “destruction” - if destruction is the way you end up viewing their story. I don’t. It was a change that was inevitable in the lives of two people who were maybe soulmates years ago and have been driven apart by predictability.
I loved this book.
Dig deep into the meaning behind the words and have an open mind.
ANDDDDD, I think we can give like 1/2 🌶️ for Taurus (those bathroom scenes were INTENSE - and the billiards game 🥵) Y’all know I love me some chili peppers!! I am currently LIVING for the billiards game:
“The touch moved lower. Lee's palm rested briefly against Max's hip, turning him by a fraction toward the table. Max felt the adjustment everywhere. "There," Lee murmured near his ear. "Now stay still."
The last page gave me literal chills.
“… Friday he would be behind the bar.
Lee would come in… and…“ CHILLS.

When you get too comfortable, you might not realize that it's time for a change, or that your relationship just isn't working anymore. It makes you question if it's actually still love, or just a matter of habit/convenience.
A very relatable read, at least to me. I would definitely recommend it. The prose is beautiful, as is all of the author's work.
