As authors we often hear, “Write what you know.” I’ve used my personal background, and insights into behavior, to help me write realistic books. Well, as realistic as an in-your-face imaginary assassin can be. So, who am I and what is that background?
First and foremost, I’m a happy person. I’ve literally been caught singing to myself while shopping and had clerks ask me, “Are you really that happy?” Yes, I am! I am happy and I like making other people happy.
For the last ten years, I’ve lived in Asia which is reflected in some of the insights in the books (yes, they do eat, and enjoy, that stuff!) Currently I am a working musician and a writer.
Before coming to Asia, I worked with an at-risk inner city population as a counselor and program administrator. Prior to that, I was in law enforcement as a gang coordinator with the hard core gangs in Los Angeles. Yup, I was a state employed and academy trained peace officer. My everyday clients were robbers, murderers, burglars, and all around bad guys.
Part of what made me good at my job working with the gangs was many of the male members of my extended family were in the gangs as teenagers. Also, as a young single mother, I lived right in the middle of the hood. Having experienced the life in the hood helped hugely with understanding the people and their motives I write about in Michelle’s books.
I can't say the quality of writing in this book was terrific, but the dialogue was convincing, the settings seemed to ring true, and the story rattled along at a steady pace. I read this book while on holiday. Possibly the best time to choose. If the sun is shining, and you have a drink in one hand, and your kindle in the other, the Sisters will do their thing, and you'll top up your tan. What more do you want from a free book?
This wasn't bad. Takes a little bit to get into at the start. First three chapters seemed unnecessary, takes too long to get into the action. It seemed odd that the friends wouldn't know their best friend's brother was killed. Or that she would need to become an assassin at all. Basically just suspend your belief for the start and it's okay. I didn't hate the main character Michelle - just didn't really like her all that much. The friends were okay. I didn't understand the uncle or the names - the uncle is called like five different things. And his girlfriend was Baby Sister. I didn't even realise that she was a girlfriend to start with, thought she was a daughter or something. I certainly didn't understand why he sent her away or came up with the idea she should become an assassin to come back and kill the people who killed her brother. I don't know. The plot was just very convoluted and unbelievable. And there were loose ends - like the second shooter on her job - I thought that was going somewhere but it just disappeared. By contrast the whole setting up the room with food from someone who likely had a record was kind of inspired - I read a lot of crime novels and I haven't seen that before. The language itself isn't too bad. There's a lot of sex and the girls talking about sex can be quite crass, but I'm fairly conservative. On the other hand, their attitude that it's okay for a woman to want meaningless sex and that sex should be fun and enjoyable and not a shameful or slutty act was very inspiring.

Michelles brother was killed in a drug deal gone bad, along with his cousin. Terrified Michelle gets help to disappear and comes back looking for his murderers. The book is set in the hood & the book is American throughout, language, reactions, it's enjoyable and fast paced, at 1st I wondered why Michelle would tell all to her friends but it becomes clear, sometimes you just need the support. The chat between the friends is fun and shows the closeness. Though i wasnt too sure at the start of the book it got better & i really enjoyed it. A good starter book
This is a very good book. Again as I have said before, I like feisty leads and this one is definitely feisty. About a girl from the hood. Like they say revenge is best served cold, and this one is freezing! Highly recommended must read.
Exciting, fast paced storyline. I really liked the girl's sticking together for a common cause. Believable characters, and not to many names to keep up with.
"The Angel of Death." What a fitting nickname for Ms. Angelique. This was a very enjoyable story, and cannot wait to see what else is in store for Michelle and her friends.
Loved this action thriller because of the main character. The main character is someone you could easily identify with but not necessarily be able to achieve their level of expertise.
Waste of my time, this book sucked big time. Glad it was free, because I would've been very upset had I paid for it. They say writing gets better with time let's hope you have a lot of time. Keep trying.
