I’ve spent three years on Chronos as a Keeper of Records, and I walked out with the one thing a powerful Royal Pigment House would kill to bury. Now they know I ran. So I do the only thing I can…I find the one family in the Four Sectors crazy enough to stand against the Xylan ancestral home world.
The door opens and an enormous, gentle Xylan miner fills the threshold. He scents me before I can get a word out, then puts himself between me and his entire family, like I’m something precious instead of a walking grenade.
“You are safe here now,” he rumbles.
Maxon — they call him Rook — is the youngest of the nine Fever Brothers, a male who’s waited his whole life to scent his Bride. He brings me food. He guards my door. And he sets out a board for a game I was sure no one this far from the original planet had ever played.
And they say I’m his mate?
What the heck?
I came here to save these miners, not to fall for one. I will not be the reason this beautiful family loses another brother, no matter what House Vaszneth sends to silence me.
Even if Rook is already the only thing in the universe I want.

Michele Mills lives in California and leads a life of quiet, G rated desperation with her husband and two sons. Rook Takes Queen is the seventh book in the Fever Brothers series by Michele Mills and it was so flipping good! I loved Rook and Hallie's story, and the continued layers we're getting with the overarching drama in the series whilst each brother gets their HEA! And all of my curiosity about Rook was absolutely satisfied! Swoon!
Rook is driven, focused, passionate about his family and his duties, and everything is completely realigned in the best possible way when she shows up at their front door.
Hallie is indeed such a queen! Taking risks, doing all she can because it's right and because she cares, whilst also being such a sweetheart!
I could wax lyrical about them bonding over chess, but you have to read it to really get it, but I'll say, it's magical and lovely! Two different perspectives and approaches, but how they play is so telling about who they are. Loved reading these interactions!
This story is the penultimate in the series, and it's really all coming together - I'm so excited for scar's story and how it will all culminate! This one was a quick read, was engaging, fast-paced, and really had me hooked as they maneuvered their way through the drama and across the chessboard! Rook and Hallie are such great foils for each other, matching up perfectly!
Rook Takes Queen is the seventh book of the Fever Brothers stories and brings to the Timbur mining colony FMC Hallie who has arrived there to find the brothers and deliver important information on what is being planned on Chronos by one of the houses that will effect them all, and she knows because she was the houses keeper of records. When brother Maxon answers the knock at the door he scents the human female standing there and knows he has found his mate. Hallie has quite the story to reveal to the brothers and how that news plays out while Maxon called by his crew name Rook figures out how to fill Hallie in on what scenting means becomes the core of another entertaining adventure with the mining brothers. Hallie fears the danger that follows her to Timbur will also touch their families so she plans on leaving as soon as she can… Um, don’t think Rook will be letting that happen! Loved the nice writing and well crafted characters who brought the story to life with some humor, drama, intrigue, emotion, family dynamics, and passion in an awesome read. Looking forward to the next brother Scar’s story.

Hallie is so brave, leaving the Xylan world of Chronos to come to Timbur and warn the Fever brothers about the plot against them. She knows she must stay on the run, but she didn't count on Rook aka Maxon opening the door to her and scenting her as his mate. Luckily, she has his brothers' human mates to fill her in on life as a miner's bride. Rook is the top chess player on the planet, and that is a game that Hallie also enjoys, so they learn a lot about each other as they play. Now she needs to decide if she is going to stay. I don't think it's a very difficult decision, as Rook and his family treat her so wonderfully.
I loved the writing, all of the characters and the world building. I'm enjoying the overarching mystery plot, in which the family tries to figure out who killed their parents and why. I really can't wait to read Scar's book, as that will resolve the mystery, yet I'm not in a rush to leave this beautiful family behind. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Hallie Longwell escapes Chronos with dangerous information a powerful Pigment House wants buried, forcing her to seek protection from the Fever Brothers. The moment Rook scents her, he shields her like she’s something precious — convinced she’s his long‑awaited Bride. Hallie didn’t come looking for a mate; she came to save this family. But with House Vaszneth closing in and Rook becoming the one person she can’t imagine losing, her mission and her heart collide.
I enjoyed this story, especially the way it finally delivered more answers about why the Fever brothers’ parents were killed and who’s still threatening them. That extra world‑building depth was really satisfying. Hallie was a great addition — sensible, steady, and easy to like — and the gaming angle between her and Rook added a fun, unexpected layer to their connection. I do wish there were more emotions and feelings woven through the narrative, but overall it was an enjoyable read with solid plot movement and meaningful revelations about the family’s past. This was an MF book with mature content.
The Fever Brothers are getting more details on what is going on with the death of their parents and the mines. All with the help of their new guest, Hallie. I loved her wits, that she has an excellent memory and that she wants to do what's right even though it endangers her life. I loved the gift the brothers have that they can smell their their future brides. And that he knows how to play the Earth version of chess. I loved the use of the chess language throughout the story. Even if you do not anything about chess you would be able to follow. This is a standalone, POV of each. Loved the chemistry between them. Truths are revealed. I loved that he saves her and she saves him. They like all of the brothers get the perfect HEA for them.

When righting a wrong, leads to your forever mate ❤️
The mystery of the Fever Brothers continues- this time Maxon (Rook) literally finds his mate on his doorstep. Hallie, a Keeper of Records on Chronos for House Vaszneth has found something horribly off and races against time to warn the brothers. Timbur has become a hotbed and danger is lurking. Love that both Maxon and Hallie share the same addiction to chess and as always, the heat generated is beyond great. And the attraction to this series has been the bond between the Fever Bros and their human wives and I was thrilled they all played since a critical part of this story.

I do love the Fever Brothers and seeing more of what happens as the mystery involving the death of their parents gets figured out. At this point, it's lovely to see all of the big families of the other brothers who have mated. It would be very noisy. The way that Hallie ends up saving the day, it was great, and I loved her character and how she was adamant about doing the right thing despite the potential risk to herself. She was also the first one who shared my view on what it would be like to run through the forest barefoot, lol! I'm glad that the other brothers finally got to see Rook for the smart and amazing male that he is. I sure hope they remember it.

-This was a fantastic addition to the Fever Brothers series, blending romance, suspense, and family loyalty with the ongoing mystery surrounding the brothers’ parents. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Rook and Hallie are a perfect match, and I love how their shared passion for chess reflected their intelligence, trust, and growing connection. Hallie’s courage and determination make her an admirable heroine, while Rook’s sweetness and devotion made him a wonderful hero. The story has plenty of action, sizzling chemistry, and major revelations. This book leaves readers excited for the final installment in the series.

The characters were very appealing and likeable and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

Rook Takes Queen is the seventh book in The Fever Brothers series by Michele Mills. I have read the last couple books in this alien romance series and enjoyed them, so I knew I would like this story also. Hallie flees with some important information and arrives at the door to the compound. It is opened by the youngest brother, Maxon, aka Rook. He immediately recognizes her as the mate he has been waiting for and that means he will do anything to keep her safe, not matter what comes next. He looks after Hallie and they grow close over a special game of chess. Hallie was not expecting it but she becomes Rook's Queen and that means forever.
This was another fun and engaging addition to the series and I loved seeing Rook and Hallie work their way together. She's got evidence of wrong-doings that are dangerous to everyone and runs to the Fever house with enemies on her tail. Rook didn't expect her arrival to mean so much to him, or for her to match him so well... Expect to get caught up in the adventure, action, danger, emotions and hot chemistry when you crack this baby open ;D I'm definitely looking forward to the next book to see how things wind their way to the end of the series. I'm sure it's going to be epic and I can't wait :D
YAY, another Fever Brother's book! In Rook Takes Queen, we get Rook/Maxon HEA. Like all his brothers before him, he doesn't have to do a thing. His mate has come aknocking on his door. And like all Fever Brother's bride before, trouble soon follows.
I love that in this book, Rook and Hallie get to know one another better through the love of chess/Karrec. Also, we are getting closer to solving the mystery behind their parents' deaths, which has plagued them for years and throughout the entire series to date. I can't wait for this mystery to be solved, and I can't wait for the next book! Recommended read.
This is the first series I read by the author and the one that made me absolutely fall in love with the fever brothers, and in love with the author, she is a tremendously gifted and has such a way with words. So from then on, I've devoured every single book and character and wished that I had a mate like all the ladies in their books. Rook and Hallie are a force to be reckoned with. I will miss the brothers and their mates when this series is finished. To be honest, I'd be devastated if we didn't hear from them again, maybe a spin of series with the Royalty???
Another brother scents his mate - and though she brings trouble with her (in the form of information people would kill to recover), the family rallies around her to keep her safe. While you COULD read it as a standalone, you should probably read at least a couple of the early ones as there is an arc from the first book to now - but if you don't, you won't have a problem following it as the main story is about Rook and his Queen!.

Rook never thought a woman coming to their door with their enemies on her heels. Hallie ran to the Fever Brothers when she got some evidence of things that were going on way higher up then anyone knew. She never expected to find Rook and all the feelings he makes her feel. This is full of adventure, and chemistry. Once you start this book you will not be able to put it down. The end is coming soon and I can't wait to see how this author brings this series to an end with all the answers we have been waiting for. This is a must read!!!
Danger, Intrigue and Chess Hallie has come to Timbur to tell the Fever Brothers about a genocidal plot, but then she plans to leave to protect them. But Rook takes on whiff of Hallie and knows, he can’t let her go. This story really builds on the overarching storyline of who killed the Fever Brothers’ parents, but it’s the sweet romance between Hallie and Rook, built across a chessboard, that really stands out. I loved the family dynamics, and the switch-flip that was the mating chase. An exciting read.
This is the seventh Fever Brothers book. I love the plot over the course of the series but if you’re only here for the romantic element, you could read this as a standalone. Rook has a lot of human sisters-in-law but no person of his own. That changes in an instant, when the honourable Hallie arrives to help the Fever brothers. Rook is so proud to have a mate that is clever and Hallie showcases Rook’s accomplishments to his family. My favourite scenes are their daily matches and getting to know each other. These suspenseful alien fated mates stories are a quick, engrossing read.
I am enjoying this series so much! We are finally finding out more details on the death of the Fever brothers' parents. Hallie has run from her employers on Cronos with evidence proving who the killers are. Rook instantly knows she is his mate now. Hallie has a lot to learn about the Fever brothers' mating instincts. I love these books, have reread the previous ones several times, and will be rereading this one too! Fantastic addition to this series.

I absolutely love The Fever Brothers! Rook is the youngest of the brothers and possibly the sweetest. He is also very smart and understands strategy. Hallie is beyond honorable and caring. She is very smart and very kind. They are such a perfect couple. In Rook Takes Queen we get closer to solving the mystery of who killed the Fever Brothers parents and why they were killed. I can't wait for the final book..Scar's story. So good!
Rook and Hallie were so good for each other! I started reading and deliberately stopped halfway through because I didn’t want it to end yet. Having the baby of the family scenting a human just as smart and geeky as he is was all the Rook could have asked for. The way the bonded over chess and strategy was so endearing. And that was what made this book so enjoyable. I’m looking forward to Scar’s book next.
A knock at the door of the Fever Brothers' compound one night brings Rook his mate in the form Hallie, a human who was working on Chronos and came to give the brother proof of a plot against Margol Xylan miners. She never expected to be asked to stay and be protected or that she would meets a sexy Xylan miner that would end up being her mate. This engaging tale gets us one step closer to the truth of the tragedy surrounding the brothers' past.
Michele is back with book 7 of the Fever Brothers and it was so good. Rook and Hallie were wonderful together. While they are fated mates, these two had wonderful a connection and chemistry. Hallie is there the brothers find out more about their parents, putting herself in danger. Thankfully Rook and Hallie are able to get a great HEA. I can’t wait for the next book.

When Rook opens the door he never expects to find his mate. Hallie is a Keeper of Records from Chronos and found something the Royal Pigment house was trying to hide. She ran straight to Timbur to let the miners know. She has answers and proof that the Fever Brothers have been looking for. She had no intention of staying but finding out she is Rook's mate has her rethinking leaving.

I really enjoyed this series and read every book in it. I always look forward to the next one and the interesting mystery about the Fever Brothers' parents' death.
As I thought, I loved our main character's story. The title was awesome, and I liked how the author mixed in the game of chess or Karrec — it's even a big part of the story.

Rook opened the door to a scared and wet Hallie. Hallie was there to share a terrible secret plot to harm the illibrium miners and mine. It’s a race against time to unravel things further and decide if staying and embracing their mate bond is something she should embrace. It’s a great story and I couldn’t put it down. Loved the HEA too.

Hallie has information that is vital to the Fever Brothers. She arrives at their door step drenched and looking to share what she has discovered. Maxon answers the door and with one scent knows she is his. A friendship forms shared interests, attraction is mutual and danger is looming ahead. Storyline is engaging and entertaining.

Rook is the latest brother to find his mate. Hallie comes with new valuable information that could be dangerous for all of them. I loved how the game chess was used as a game and a strategy. I'm both looking forward to the next one but sad because it's the least one in this series. Another winning story!
I love this series, I love the brothers and how protective they are and the sassiness of the brides. Hallie and Rook are perfect together and bring much to the family. Can’t wait for the final book in the series!!!.
