Meet Me at the Bookstore

“So you have only seen me as a friend? All this time?”
“I’m sorry Fahad. I...I have made my decision…”
*
There are three things that Samirah loves: books, her uncle’s bookstore, and the Arctic Monkeys. She is content with her quiet life at Ilham Bookstore, until she meets Fahad Khan. He is the first person to make her heart beat faster.
But her uncle, who raised her after her parents died, has other plans. He wants to match Samirah with a man of his choice. How can she say “no” to the uncle who gave up his own dreams to raise her?
When Fahad finally confesses his feelings, Samirah feels forced to break his heart. Believing there is no future for them, she chooses to end their story before it can truly begin.
*
A year later, Samirah faces devastating news: the bookstore might close due to financial problems. In the midst of the crisis, Fahad reappears, his new life heavily intertwined with the fate of her beloved sanctuary.
Will they find their way back to each other, or is her gratitude to her uncle a debt that can only be paid with her own happiness?
“What if it’s too late again? What if she had lost the only chance she had?”

PERSONAL THOUGHTS;

The FMC is an avid reader who has been working in her family's bookstore since she was a teenager. Talk about a book lover's dream come true! Since she loves reading, she also shares the books she's currently reading throughout the story. On top of that, she's a fan of Arctic Monkeys, so we also get snippets of her favorite songs.

The bookstore is facing a crisis (don’t worry, this isn’t a spoiler. It’s mentioned in the blurb). I loved how we, myself included, found ourselves brainstorming ways to save it, coming up with ideas for events and marketing strategies to bring more traction, as they always said.

The writing style is easy to follow with moderate pacing. The conflict in this slice-of-life novel is there to keep things interesting, but not so much to bawl your eyes out.
As for the romance, these two fell for each other and were absolutely yearning. Again, it is a cozy romance rather than one that hits you with intense emotions.

I also enjoyed the setting. It felt like taking a little trip around Singapore, post Covid-19 period, especially to places like the bookstore, Arab Street, Sultan Mosque, and more. That said, I do wish the descriptions had been more immersive and vivid.

Overall, I'd recommend it to readers who enjoy slice of life with warm and comforting romances.

Okay, so ‘Meet Me at the Bookstore’ was such a sweet and cozy read! I’d give it a solid 4/5 because the vibes were comforting, the storyline was pretty straightforward, and it gave me that warm, feel-good feeling. Samira and Fahad’s slow-burn connection was adorable though, I’ll admit, some of the work-life details in the middle dragged a bit for me. But the bookstore setting and all the memories tied to it? Loved that! It’s one of those heartwarming stories where everything comes together in its own time. If you’re into light, sweet, and a bit of nostalgic romance, this one’s a comfy pick!

4.6/5🌟!

I gotta say... This book is really comforting for me, with a minor conflict, green forest MMC, kind n independent FMC. Just perfect...

Part 1
In this part, we could see how the relationship between Sam (Samirah) and Fahad grew. Both care for each other but Sam refused to act solely based on her feelings due to her feeling indebted towards her uncle and aunt. Why? Sebab both of her uncle and aunt took care of her after her parents' death. So, because of that she was willing to sacrifice her own happiness by lepaskan Fahad even though when Fahad was so ready to fight for them. But I'm glad Sam came to her senses and be honest to herself and confessed to her uncle and aunt. Eventually, her (planned) engagement with Irman x jadi. And Fahad is a very respectful guy. I love him for that. Walaupun he was heartbroken, he respected her decision and x pressure Sam. He just went away to heal. But he missed her a lot too. Haih.. The yearning this man has.

Part 2
Both of them are adults now. Both mencari what's in it for their future. Ahhh x tau macam mna nk review sebab memang sgt2 matured, sgt2 memahami. Especially si Fahad tu.. Dia punya yearning tu memang WOW. I want that! And Sam! Thank you so much for being true to yourself and berani to say it out loud. She's a really good woman. Even after everything she had faced, dia still fikir pasal uncle dgn aunty dia. Btw, tidak dilupakan jugak Rizqa - a very amazing friend, Sam's uncle and aunt and others jugak.

I believe this novel dh jadi my comfort read. Thank you, miss author!

Rate: 8/10 🌟 (Slice of Life, Drama, Romance)

Fahad really shows reader how he YEARN. Because bro literally not moving anywhere, still waiting for Sam. He just cant move on.

Sam on the other hand, whyyyy just whyyyy would you take your time figuring out your feelings. I mean, I understand the feeling of always indebted to kindness. But please dont ignore your feelings, esp when it comes to the feeling.

I just wish this novel would include the part where Sam and Fahad sit and talk, then Fahad actually told her about their primary school's memories. Its somehow an important thing that need to be unfold. Ive been waiting for that part btw. But all good, they already have their happily ever after.

I have no complaint. Glad that I bought this book at PBAKL. Glad that I choose to read this book to overcome my reading slump. Buku ni best dan tenang je bila baca. Takde apa yg sweet dan cringe pun. Pada saya la. Cuma suka betul lah baca halal romance yg macam ni. Looking forward to read more of the books from the author!

Cuma nak tanya. What happened between Melati and Shahrul? They were lovers before? Ke cemana?

Light reading and calming. I fell asleep every time I read this book, 😂 but I didn't think it was in a bad way. It has the same vibe as Japanese books that I've read before. It's normal for me to fall asleep with this kind of book. Maybe after part two, then only i can read a few chapters at a time. But still, one chapter a day is normal because I am so sleepy.

The romance is giving right person, wrong timing.

It really gives that real bookstore stories kinda vibe, you know when characters casually mention famous books & suddenly you’re like “Okay I know that book!”. I love when authors do this because it makes the bookstore atmosphere feel even more 'alive'.

Definitely a light & cozy read!
