She is a Japanese manga artist known for creating The Magic Touch and Oresama Teacher which have both been serialized on the Hana to Yume magazine.
Tsubaki began drawing manga in her first year of high school. She was soon selected to be in the top 10 of Hana to Yume Mangaka Course, and subsequently won the Big Challenge contest.

Mafuyu is away at boarding school to clean up her thugish ways and runs into the man who influenced her, who is now a teacher, Takaomi Saeki. She has finally made her first friend, Hayasaka, a rather dense thug. Together they are the Public Morals Club!
This is a review of volumes 19-20 which I read together back to back. See the plot section for my thoughts on the individual volumes.
Oresama Teacher vol 19-20 reveals the mystery behind Hayasaka's dissolving memories. Actually I was surprised by how quickly this storyline built up and then was resolved. Sometimes with long running stories everything is dragged out more and more. I really appreciate that Izumi Tsubaki doesn't do this but keeps it tight around whatever works well to showcase the reveals and events.
As a long time reader of Oresama Teacher I've always been curious about Hayasaka's home life as he keeps it shrouded in secrecy. And now in vol 19 we meet his entire family!! It's totally crazy what has happened to Hayasaka. It's a neat way to show us how much he's changed from the past. I love how Okegawa and Saeki come into the drama and make some connections to a certain someone in the student council. And I was blown away by what Saeki chose to do at that point. It was super fun and I found this volume one of the best in the series! Certainly a volume I will remember from the entire year.
In vol 20 we come to understand why Momochi targeted Hayasaka for her mind games. And we see Hayasaka take matters into his own hands to resolve his memory troubles. The filler chapters were super fun with some drama with our pigeon friend and a Christmas birthday. Most fascinating was a dastardly plot Aki comes to see right under their noses between Saeki and Momochi!! That was hilarious and a great way to resolve her machinations. What does this mean for the student council?! I don't know but I'm dying to find out...
Actually I was on the edge of my seat the entire time through Oresama Teacher vol 19-20. I was really caught up in the things we learned about Hayasaka. Rumor and how rumors are erroneously taken to be gospel truth is used to great effect.
In vol 19 Hayasaka's family acts quite mysteriously relieved at odd times and overreacted quite strongly at others. It was fun though how Saeki, Yui and Mafuyu came at the problem from different angles using the skills that best suit them and work with who they are. But its Hayasaka's own efforts to figure out what's going on that really kept me hanging on to every page.
In vol 20 we did get some hilarious and totally fun filler chapters. The outrageous things that Izumi Tsubaki comes up with to feature! I was quite anxious for Hayasaka's plan seeing as Momochi didn't have to work very hard to totally destroy him the first time. But as with all of our tough enemies in Oresama Teacher... these are ultimately kids fighting to survive anyway they can. They aren't evil or unredeemable at all.
There were so many good moments between different characters in Oresama Teacher vol 19-20. We have come to love and respect all the different personalities to be found in this series and to see this really tough time come and their reactions... its gorgeous!
In vol 19 Okegawa works to reassure Mafuyu and their bancho past really bonds them in this issue. Yui connecting with Hayasaka's siblings was really neat and showcases his strengths with people. Saeki had his moments of adulting that hinted at the fact nothing was as it seemed here. But its Mafuyu doggedly pursuing Hayasaka like she did when they first met and the outcome from that... totally went right to my heart!!
In vol 20 I really couldn't handle how strong Hayasaka faced up to everything! This has been a long time coming for him and if not for Momochi and her machinations he may very well be living in that horrible limbo he was barely surviving at home. While vol 19 is hands down one of the best volumes I've ever read in the series I was surprised at how well vol 20 worked to follow and be just as good.
The covers for Oresama Teacher vol 19-20 are in the new style and I LOVE them!! The simple one with Hayasaka and Mafuyu on 19 WOW! Emotional and a little different angle with that simplicity works to showcase what we find inside the volume. Two of the most powerful of the scenes were between Momochi and Saeki and then again when Okegawa confronts her. This is why I love these two!! Their smouldering gazes was perfect for these confrontations hahaha.
Yui has a really funny couple of pages in vol 20 where he's supposed to be unhappy but can't suppress his joy hahaha. It's totally a fun way to highlight that they are acting totally at odds with how they should be feeling. Izumi Tsubaki takes every moment she can to pack in the funny, drama and heartfelt feelings in a visual and stunning way.
Oresama Teacher vol 19-20 are two pivotal volumes in a stellar series! This is truly about friendship in high school and the joy and heartaches and roller coaster rides that it is... but also highlights the best things in life like lifetime bonds, unexpected connections and standing by your friends. If you haven't checked out this series you really should... It's worth it!!

I’m glad Hayasaka’s backstory is over with. I do feel sad for Momochi though. She definitely had a traumatic childhood and used Hayasaka (among many others) to make herself feel better.
I quite enjoyed the random chapter about the penpal letters being intercepted, causing confusion. It was very funny!!! Especially, when Hayasaka jumped into the pond to save Torikichi so majestically. LOL.
But my fav part of this volume was the “surprise birthday party for Yui”/Christmas party. They were hanging brass knuckles like it was Christmas decor…LOL

I really enjoyed this volume, we saw a conclusion to Hayasaka's story arc and got insight into a mysterious member of the student council.

the balance of soap opera drama to humor was much stronger this volume. would lol again!

In Summary
Hayasaka’s past is revealed! His family background is nothing short of unbelievable, though not in a particularly good way. Fortunately, we have the PMC’s particular brand of friendship and loyalty to keep us entertained as well some additional Hayasaka memories that reveal the true nature of the enigmatic Runa Momochi.
The Review
The first half of Volume 20 is all about Hayasaka’s past. After the dramatic end to Volume 19, an explanation is necessary to reconcile Hayasaka’s memories with the situation at the Hayasaka mansion, and Hayasaka’s dad finally provides it. This mystery is something Tsubaki-sensei’s teased readers with for several volumes now, and whatever you might have guessed about the Hayasaka family, it’s probably wrong. To put it another way, the true nature of the Hayasaka relationships and the circumstances that got them there are too illogical to be reasoned out. At one point during the explanation, Hayasaka’s dad and mom are both labeled “delusional,” which pretty much sums up the environment that saddled Hayasaka with a girly name.
While these revelations are more weird than satisfying, the more important thing is that Hayasaka’s back with an intact set of memories. In fact, he remembers more than anyone might have guessed. However, the one who meddled with his memories remains to be dealt with, and Hayasaka is the one who proposes a plan to ensnare Momochi. It’s a risky ploy, and as it plays out, you’re never quite sure whether the Public Morals Club or Momochi has the upper hand. At the same time, Tsubaki-sensei does an excellent job of weaving humor into the tension.
Then the Hayasaka’s past/Momochi battle arc concludes, and Tsubaki-sensei turns the attention to the two PMC members that had largely been left out of the loop. First, we have an Okegawa-centric or, more accurately, a Strawberry Love-centric chapter. After Momochi’s nefarious scheming, Mafuyu’s and Okegawa’s girlish correspondence delivers on some much needed lighter bird-brained fun. Then we have an Akki-centric chapter, which, in addition to updating us on the state of his relationship with Komari, hints that the Momochi/ PMC battle might not be completely over.
The volume concludes with a Christmas chapter. As it turns out, Christmas Eve is Yui’s birthday, and Mafuyu insists on hosting the party. Between the mashup of celebrations and all the gang-related stuff Mafuyu forgets to hide from her friends, it’s a chaotically fun time that ends with a tantalizing hook.
By the way, if the notes at the end of the book are correct, the Student Council President’s arc will conclude in the next volume. Considering all the rounds that have taken place between the Student Council and PMC, it does seem about time for it to wrap up.
Extras in this volume include Characters and Story Thus Far, 4-panel comics, and a character relationship chart.

It has been quite a while since I’ve read one of these volumes. And it very much feels like I’ve missed a lot.
There are still a ton of characters, but there’s also some real story development happening here. Hayasaka is getting some memories from his past back, and trying to figure out what happened and confronting the people behind it. It’s a bit emotional, and surprising in its depth and seriousness.
There’s also, of course, a lot of hilarity. We see some letter-carrying pigeon make some mistakes. I also got to meet Komari for the first time (I don’t remember her from when I paused the series), whom is adorable, and I find her relationship with Akki very interesting.
This was a fun volume, though I felt a little lost at the beginning. It does make me want to pick the series back up, though.

This many volumes in and I still kind of like the series. I mean there's too many characters but for some reason I still want to keep reading since I at least want to know what the characters will get up to next. Good volume at least.
