Robyn Elaine Donald was born on 14 August 1940 in Northland, New Zealand. She was the oldest child in her family, and as a child, she thrilled her four sisters and one brother with bloodcurdling adventure tales, usually very like the latest book she'd borrowed from the library.

Robyn owes her writing career to two illnesses. The first was a younger sister's flu. She was living with her husband and Robyn and spent most of that winter acquiring, suffering, and recovering from various infections. One day she croaked that she had read everything on Robyn's bookshelves, so would Robyn please buy her something cheerful and sustaining. Robyn found three paperbacks- one Mills and Boon Modern Romance novel and a couple of other romances. Robyn read them, too, of course, and so enjoyed them she spent the next couple of years hunting down more Mills and Boon books. This was much more difficult then than it is today, so she decided to write her own, and for the following busy 10 years she wrote and hoped that one day she would finish a manuscript good enough that was good enough to send to a publisher.

The second illness was her husband's, and it was bad a heart attack. He was so young it terrified them all. While he was recovering, he suggested that Robyn finish the manuscript she was writing and send it off. It wasn't a perfect manuscript, but the doctor had said to humour her husband, so she finished the manuscript, edited it as best she could, and sent it off. Three months later, she was astounded to read a letter from the editor saying that if She made a few revisions they would buy her novel Bride at Whangatapu.

Published since 1977, Robyn sees her readers as intelligent women who insist on accurate backgrounds, so she spends time researching as well as writing.Robyn Donald sometimes thinks that writing is much like gardening. It's a similar process creating landscapes for the mind and emotions from the seeds of ideas and dreams and images. Both activities can also lead to moments of extreme delight, moments of total despair, and backache. Now Robyn lives in the Bay Islands. She continues writing, and also finds time for a very supportive husband, two adult children and their partners, a granddaughter and her mother, not to mention the member of the family that keeps her fit - a loud, cheerful, and ruthlessly determined "almost" Labradordog.

Languid story of an H/h who must live together for six months to inherit from the H’s stepfather/h’s aunt’s employer. Hero (and the entire Island) thinks the heroine was his step father’s mistress.

Hero is wildly attracted to the heroine who cooked for his stepfather and was a companion, but also started her own skin care company. Heroine is attracted to the hero even though he shows his disgust for her at every opportunity.

Just another day at the office for Robyn Donald.

What’s missing is a lot of angst. Heroine is hurt by the hero’s attitude, but she’s not devastated. She’s got a business to run and it’s only six months out of her life. With that kind of equanimity, the angst never really gets off the ground.

Heroine eventually discovers that she is the dead man’s

This definitively puts the hero in his place and he eventually admits his feelings long before the six months is up.

Robyn Donald – lite.

I'm not even sure why I picked this one up. The h/H had a relationship that was mostly lust and insults. The H judges the h before he even meets her and gives her a barrage of slut shaming insults. They are forced to spend 6 months sharing the same cottage on a little island in order to get their inheritance. The h really doesn't like the H and his disdain, but she just can't control the way her body reacts!!! Oh boy, this got ridiculous.

They finally decide to try to get along when boom! the h decides she's in love with him after only a few paragraphs of "a few months later and this is what's going on" type of writing. The romance was never developed. We never get to see their feelings grow and change of understand the why. I love yous are spoken and the book is over. What a huge waste of time.

I loved this book. Luc and Jo were perfect for the other even though Luc hated her in the beginning. Luc believed his step father to leave a vast fortune to his last mistress and wants to know what type of women she was. They are forced together to get what they want from the will. I realized the truth about Maddie and Tom even before I read the book because it made sense. I loved the ending with them together.

"He'd shown himself to be judgemental and inflexible and autocratic and intolerant......" That is a quote from the start of chapter 10. That describes Luc MacAllister exactly. For about 3/4's of the book I was totally annoyed (nice word but not the one I am thinking) with his whole attitude. I am so sick of stories where the "male" thinks the "female" is sleeping around or is a "whore". Why is it that if a female is living with a man, old enough to be her father, she is a gold digger and his mistress. I am thankful that everything was sorted out in the last chapters but it still did not endear me to Luc.
Another crap thing is the cover of the book I read. Luc had ash brown hair with golden streaks and Joanna did not have black hair. "Don't judge a book by it's cover". Sorry but I do.........when the cover does not match the description of the characters. The covers of some of the other editions do. :(

After reading a lot of online self-published romances, it was refreshing to go back and read something written with stringent copy editors on hand!

Typical Harlequin-style hero and heroine, full of misgivings and misunderstandings, but having instant chemistry. What I love about the RD books are her descriptions of Pacific Islander cultures and life, and the beautiful flora and fauna. Some people want to read romances set in bustling cities like New York or London -- but give me a tropical beach, or the stunning landscape of New Zealand any day.

And the stories are HEA, guaranteed, so anyone who's ever read a Harlequin knows that everything will be ironed-out by the last page. With everything that has made up 2020, a little escapism is required...

Low angst story. Fairly decent hero, but largely forgettable book. The descriptive writing is superb though.

A temptation too far…The only way Luc MacAllister can get his hands on his inheritance is to spend six months on a Pacific island with his stepfather's alleged mistress. Joanna Forman could tempt a saint, but if Luc wants to keep his sanity, and his secrets, he should keep her at arm's length.

Taking her inheritance would confirm Luc's belief that she's a gold digger, but turning it down would cost Joanna everything. So she must stand toe-to-toe with the powerful tycoon and hope that until the end of the long, hot summer she can fight the attraction that burns between them….

Decent. The pacing was a little off for my tastes, I would've liked more modification of the dude's thoughts/behavior earlier than it happened. But overall it was fine.

This review is just for the Island of Secrets story, I reviewed/commented on the other book separately: Ruthless Billionaire, Inexperienced Mistress

Joanna Forman has spent a lot of time in Rotumea over her lifetime. Staying to start her own business while caring for her aunt and the only father figure she knew, she was devastated when Tom died.

Luc MacAllister can not stand the duplicity Joanna represents. He must spend six months with his step-father's young mistress and then hope she will allow him his inheritance.

Overall, OK.
