Rate this book
When Caris’s unearthly musical talent attracts the attention of the Wild Hunt, the Welsh farm girl is stolen away to serve as a faery grim, a herald of death. Two centuries later, she’s finally escaped back to the human world—and into the present-day life of a reclusive and heartbroken American musician.

Music was Liam’s whole life—until a crushing betrayal left him desperate to flee the public eye. Yet long-dormant passions awaken within him after a powerful storm strands a beautiful, strong-willed woman on his isolated farm. When a fae prince bent on ruling both human and faery realms threatens Caris’s life, Liam must decide if he can finally believe in love again, not just for her sake—but for the sake of two worlds.

From the bestselling author of Changeling Moon, this sweeping and passionate story of paranormal romance follows two souls from different centuries who lost everything…and found that only love can save them.

I love Dani Harper and her writing style always lulls me into a sense of completion... I 'feel' the words in her stories and there is a gentle flow to the books.

It was the Changeling series that introduced me to Ms Harper's worlds and I loved those books, hence the step into the Grim series. These are fabulous books written about the fae and their interactions with some of the human world and The Grim dogs are something to breathe about!

Magical in every sense, eventful and a need to find out what happens, another great book to definitely get your teeth into.

Great read

Another great story.

This time the roles are reversed the woman is the Grimm and the man is the unbelieving human.

Lots of character development. Lots of great secondary characters and visits from previous books.

Enjoyed the series can’t wait for the fourth one to come out

Caris was turned into a grim (a death dog) by a fae prince who sought more power. Prior to that she ran her father's farm, while he drank his days and nights away. Caris was a gifted musician. Liam was also a gifted musician whose career was flourishing. After his wife cheated on him, he retreated and became a hermit on his family's farm.
This was an entertaining read with fun secondary characters. I really liked Caris; she was strong and stood up for herself. Ranyon (I've got a charm for that!) and Morgan make appearances. Aidan, Brooke, and Rhys are mentioned in name only.

The Grim Series by Dani Harper

FYI: this is a short review of the series so there will be a bit about each book in the review.

I loved this series and read all 4 books in a row [Storm Warrior, Storm Bound, Storm Warned, Storm Crossed]. Well actually I listened to all 4 books – I found it easier than trying to figure out the pronunciation of the occasional bit of Welsh. The narrator was outstanding – good use of voice, good pacing, and she got to figure out how to pronounce the Welsh.

The setting is Wales, the Nine Realms of the Tylwyth Teg [the Fae or Fair Folk of Welsh legend – if you're thinking of Tolkein's elves forget it – although impossibly beautiful most of them are NOT pleasant and tend to look upon others as toys or pawns], and modern Washington State. The author mixes the politics of the Nine Realms, the Wild Hunt, Grims [a Grim is a great black dog that serves as a herald of death], and modern Washington with a side order of Ren Faires. She does a good job of giving you what you need to know about Welsh history and mythology within the story flow without burying you in facts.

Storm Warrior
Hero: Rhys, a Welsh warrior who fought against the Romans approximately 2000 years ago. After escaping from the Romans he is captured by the Tylwyth Teg and turned a Grim.
Heroine: Morgan, a Washington veterinarian, visits Wales as part of a tour. She keeps seeing this huge black dog everywhere they go and feels sorry for it and offers it kindness. After returning to Washington she is attacked and would have died, should have died, but the Grim intervenes sacrificing his immortality to save her. He is badly injured but she is determined to save him, taking him home to care for him after the surgery to save his life. She is very surprised to find a naked man in place of her dog the next morning, almost as surprised as he is…

The remainder of the story involves Rhys finding a place in Morgan's world and Morgan's life – with many complications thrown in by the Tylwyth Teg – on the way to their happily ever after.

Storm Bound
Hero: Aidan, a 12th century Welsh blacksmith, is taken by Fae princess on his wedding day. His refusal to dishonor his fiancée and come to her bed enrages her and he is changed into a Grim until he agrees.
Heroine: Brooke, a modern day witch who accidentally saves Aiden from death. Since the princess is not happy to have lost her toy complications result.

Storm Warned
Hero: Liam is a musician whose world crashed when his wife was unfaithful – in living color on YouTube. He is now a reclusive farmer who has given up music in all forms.
Heroine: Caris is an 18th century Welsh farm girl with a gift for music that is truly magical. Taken by a plotting Fae princeling, Caris and her ability to influence others with her music is 'stored' for future use by turning her into a Grim. Complications ensue…

Storm Crossed
Heroes: Trahern, a Fae sorcerer, becomes part of the Wild Hunt in his efforts to save his twin brother, Braith, from the machinations of their mother who has turned him into a Grim.
Heroine: Lissy Santiago-Callahan, the single mother of an autistic child who seems to have access to great magical powers.
Time passes while they ride with the Hunt and Trahern continues to attempt to free Braith, but to no avail. Then suddenly Braith attaches himself to a child, a human child, and refuses to leave. Trahern is fearful but comes to realize that he too wants to protect the child, and the mother. Both Trahern and Lissy feel that mortal and immortal have nothing in common but they find they do. And yes, complications arise both from the Fae world and from the real world difficulties of raising an autistic child.

Each story serves well as a stand-alone but there is a lot character overlap. Can you read them without having read them all or in the right order? Sure, but I think reading them in order enriches the stories but that may just be me. There is also appears to be a series arc going on with Lurien, the Lord of the Wild Hunt, and Gwenhidw, widowed Queen of the Fae.

The Grim series of this writing:
Storm Warrior
Storm Bound
Storm Warned
Storm Crossed

I truly hope the author continues the series…

3.5 stars for me. I want to shout out yet again to the narrator Justine Eyre! She continues to be amazing and as the story progresses and more and more characters are added, the voices of the old characters are recognizable and the new characters all have their own flare! Book 3 here in Dani Harper's Grim series and surprisingly enough each book has really been unique to itself, the characters all being so different not only personality wise but with their own unique backstories as well. Of course all the while the author has slowly been bringing that secondary story closer and closer to the forefront. In this book the stories collide bringing the fae realm and the human realm together in a battle to save them both.

Caris, our FMC, has endured being the only known female grim for centuries after her love for music got her caught up in a hunt by faeries who wouldn't take no for an answer. Liam our MMC, is battling a life of depression after being treated horribly by his childhood sweetheart. Trying to take one day at a time the anger and betrayal threatens to consume him and even worse, the music he was once famous for has left him entirely. As things in the fae realm heat up, fae begin taking the sides of the Queen, or the evil prince, regarding moving to the new realm. During a wild hunt ride Caris disobeys and attempts to escape the Prince and his evil plans to use her. In the scuffle she lands smack dab in the midst of Liam's farm with the storm of the hunt. Liam, injured in the storm gives the shirt off his back to a beautiful injured dog and has just enough sense to call our good friend Morgan the vet before succumbing to his own injuries. Upon awakening Liam finds not a dog but a naked woman trying to care for him. Liam must face his past and learn to believe in the unbelievable or he may push this miracle dropped in his lap away. Not to mention a war is brewing.. and the bad guys need Caris to play for them...

I have to admit that I liked this book a tad less than the first 2 and I think it mostly had to do with the fact that Liam and Caris seemed a little forced.. or maybe even a little too convenient.. The secondary story playing out was as good as ever though. All the stories have been fast paced and on the insta lovey side so I can't say that it was the insta love itself that was the off part. I am totally looking forward to Lorian's story though.. I can't wait to see what is in story for him in this new land and I hope she gives him hell lol!

Caris Ellen Dillwyn was born in Wales. She is from the year 1820. She loves to play the fiddle. She plays melodious music with the fiddle. Unfortunately her music is what caught the attention of Maelgywn. Maelgywn is a Tylwyth Teg Prince of the House of Ash. He wants to kill Gwenhildw, the Queen of the Fae. He is a distant relative and he believes he should be the King. He turns Caris into a grim for safe keeping even though it is unusual for a girl to be a grim. He wanted her and he did not want the Fae to know he had her. One day when he has accumulated enough power stones he will use Caris’ music to make him stronger and become the King. Music has power. Music is a powerful weapon for the Fae. It can enhance Fae Magic.

Liam Cole was a musician. He used to play the fiddle but he was betrayed and lost his aspiration to play all instruments. He became a recluse. Liam and Caris have lost everything. Can they find love and heal each other? Liam and Caris are drawn to each other. They both will protect the other from harm. They will do whatever it takes to defend the other from danger. Their budding love for each other is sweet.

It was fun to see characters from the previous books such as Morgan Edwards, Jaye Browning and Ranyon. Morgan and Jaye are veterinarians that Liam calls when he needs help with his farm animals. Ranyon is a fun character who is an ellyll and a type of Fae. Ranyon is entertaining when he interacts with everyone. I also enjoyed seeing Lurien, the Lord of the Hunt again. His interactions with Gwenhildw show Lurien’s tender side. I hope Lurien finds his happily ever after in a future book.

This is book three in the Grim series. There is lots of suspense, intrigue, action and danger to keep you turning the pages. It can be read without reading the previous books. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

This is a fantastic series! I’m so impressed with each new story and the characters that it brings. This book is a little different than the first two because it’s the first time that we have a female Grim. But it’s filled with just as much magic and drama.

Dani Harper’s STORM WARNED Strikes a Chord!

Original Post: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/201...

Although we’ve never met outside cyberspace, I consider Dani a friend so, of course, that has some impact on how I feel about her work. But, I have given her work both favorable and unfavorable reviews so I am not just a sycophant.

Tomorrow, Dani will be by with “Fae Facts ” and an audiobook giveaway exclusive to Fangs, Wands & Fairy Dust readers!

In this story, Dani does the unusual and flips the gender of the character who has been turned into a grim (death dog). That’s interesting because it gave me, as a woman, more insight into what that kind of creature would feel.

Grims have an advantage of having lived through the centuries since having been changed and so, when one becomes human again, as in each of the three stories in the series, they aren’t astonished by all the modern conveniences. And, they have learned the hard way to have a healthy fear of the fae.

On the other hand, Liam has built a wall of anger and hurt around himself that only a hurt animal, and a seriously huge storm, can undermine. It takes some time but the wall comes down, and when presented with enough evidence he realizes what is happening around his farm is real and not just a by-product of the major concussion he suffered.

It feels like a real conversion from unbelieving to skeptical acquiescence, which is a tough feat to pull off in this genre; it is often the downfall of the paranormal romance.

And, Dani also possesses the skill to portray the fae in a way that strips away every Disney-Princess fantasy. I have a healthy fear of ever meeting one.

The physical relationship develops quickly with the situation, musical sympathy and undeniable attraction between the characters overcoming a lot of obstacles like dating, disbelief and that wall of anger. Dani writes some nice steamy scenes with respectful language and emotional content. The musical sympathy is vital to the characters and the story and their sharing of the love of their music is the glue that holds the characters and the story together.

The story includes a suspense aspect as well; I was always wondering whether the story would have a happy ending; and whether the villain would “get his” in the end. Dani doesn’t telegraph the ending ahead of time. And the villain is very strong, evil and heartless — a female Maleficent without the mitigating circumstances. I enjoyed seeing the fairy queen stiffen her resolve and I got the feeling the character knew the story would lead to this outcome from the first book.

Dani writes a huge, extremely believable, storm into the beginning of the book. Only someone who lived through such a maelstrom could have written it!

The character that actually seems the most important to me is Ranyon, who I first met in STORM WARRIOR. Aside from his curious manner of speaking, which I found kind of annoying, he is a darling and powerful creature. Dani calls him an “Ellyll,” and I have found that pronounced as Essiss (http://www.forvo.com/word/ellyll/).
According to the online Dictionary of Mythology:

Ellyll (Welsh): A small fairy or elf. In some accounts, ellyllon are fiends or ghosts, the souls of druids which are destined to roam the earth until the day of judgement. http://www.mythologydictionary.com/el...

I’ve also seen ellyll translated as “troll” and “elf.” To find out more about the fae come by tomorrow for Dani’s guest post, Fae Facts!

Ranyon is the character who makes the story, the magic, and needed repairs, work. I found him so important to the story that I spent a lot of time looking for a picture I could share with you after asking Dani whether he resembled a mini Groot. So now, in my mind he’s the Dsiney dwarf, Sleepy, mixed with Groot! I have found one picture I cannot figure out how to ask permission to use so I will give you this link to LEGION OF PAGANS, More Faery Lore instead: http://static.sgv2.com/img/183924/asp...

Oddly, except for the head and size it is pretty much how I saw him in my mind’s eye. Dani has done a lot of research into the fae and Welsh.

The story offers excellent continuity and inclusion from the first two books in the series. It was interesting that Dani doesn;t include the other Ex-Grims in this book, but refers to them and includes one’s mate and friends. This offers the continuity but the book can stand on its own.

I recommend the entire series, in order, for the best experience. It has a lot of heart and is another winner for Dani Harper!

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
REVIEW:
One wickedly crazy prince trying to take over two world. One woman who just wants to be human again. One man who wants to be left alone with his broken heart.
Secrets will be revealed that will change the fabric of both the Nine Realms and the Mortal world.

In Storm Warned we get to meet Liam Cole an amazing musician who has everything going for him. That is until Liam’s world completely crumbles around him. Now he finds himself a recluse on his Uncle and Aunt’s farm and wants nothing to do with anyone.
Caris’ has lived for many years in a prison. A prison in the form of a Grim’s body. But when her captor leads a rogue hunt across a mortals farm, Caris see her chance to finally escape. As long as she doesn’t get caught.
Another great Grim story by Dani Harper. Liam and Caris are great. And we get to see some of our favorites from the first two books. Of course the Lord of the Wild Hunt, Lurien has some major page time in this book. Which leads me to hope beyond hope that Lurien’s book is next.

I had the great honor of listening to Storm Warned on audio book. The amazing Justine Eyre is will just amazing!! I love that Justine can take a great story and bring it to life for me. I am already looking forward to Justine reading Dani’s next Grim story to me.

If you have not checked out this series and like Fae mythology and lore you need to pick up book one Storm Warrior. And find out why the Fae should never be trusted.

WowStorm Warnedthis is such a good book that I struggled to put it down. What I love about Dani Harpers books is that the characters are so real, they have great back stories and the prose changes to the views from each person in turn so you know what they are thinking, why they do the things they do.
Although there is a fantasy element to the book, the situations seem real and logical so that I got a real empathy to the situation and characters in it.
I really don't like plot spoiler reviews so no details will be release by me - I like the twists and turns in the book and wouldn't want to know in advance what occurs. Its a love story, an adventure, good verses evil, unseen peril and light relief from a "Ranyon" I let the book tell you who/what he is. Only slight negative was that it was over very quickly after the climax towards the end, I would have liked a little more in depth after story mainly because I didn't want the story to end.
This is the third book in the series although it works well as a stand alone story, once you read it you will want to read the other two. 3 of the characters from book 1 do appear in this story and mention is made to the 2nd book, so it you like to read books in order get Storm Warrior and Storm Bound why not treat yourself and just get all three. You wont be sorry

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle:
*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review

I utterly enjoyed this book. It seemed to be exactly what I needed at the time, and kept my interest from beginning to end.

It should be noted that I hadn't read the previous 2 installments of the Grim series before reading this for review, and that was O.K. Sorta. The book was absolutely fine as a standalone, but now I have 2 more books that I've bumped up in my TBRSoon list. :)

Storm Warned had one of those despicable villains that you love to hate, heroes and heroines that you cheer on every step of the way, an interesting and beautifully built world with some very cool intricacies, and a supporting cast that will definitely make you want more.

Liam is a tortured hero. He had a bad break in life and it caused him to put aside his dreams and secret himself away. You can't help but feel for him, and while there were times I sort of wanted to shake him, it all played out beautifully. Caris was fun, feisty and independent, a true counterpoint to his misery. The two of them together blended harmoniously to create a beautiful melody of love (yes that was a terrible punish statement, as the storyline very heavily revolves around music, something I absolutely adored!!).

I am really looking forward to reading more in Ms. Harper's Grim world, and I definitely recommend Storm Warned if you're in the mood for some Fae.

Love, love, love this book! It was so good! I loved seeing my favourite characters (especially Ranyon!)and meeting amazing new characters (namely our heroes Caris and Liam).

The Fae prince responsible for turning Caris into a Grim was a true villain and it was easy to hate him! He kinda got what he deserved although I'm not sure I'd have been so kind after the cruelties he committed!

I loved seeing the Queen and Lurien again, they are my favourite Fae (Ranyon would no doubt be insulted to be called Fae which is why I don't include him in that!) I love to see them both find happiness, they aren't like most of the other Fae at all, particularly the Queen! I'm liking the new ruler of the Dragon Fae though, she reminds me a lot of the Queen but she has a good dose of Lurien's attitude in her too! I hope we see her again!

As for the main characters, Liam was still very much a broken man who'd lost his connection to himself and to music when we met him because of some serious heartbreak and betrayal. Caris really healed him and he helped her find her place in a unfamiliar (to her) world. They were perfect together and I was routing for them to get their happy ending throughout!

All in all a great book that kept me hooked from start to finish! I would highly recommend getting it!

STORM WARNED is the third book in the Grim series. Two centuries ago, Caris’ rapturous and forbidden music catches the attention of the fae’s Wild Hunt. Her defiance in the face of the fae cost Caris her freedom and she was transformed into the first female grim – a death dog, a harbinger of death. In the present day, Liam has moved to his aunt and uncle’s farm to lick his wounds after his music cost him the person he held dearest. An unnatural storm blows through Liam’s farm and leaves behind destruction, as well as an injured dog. When Liam meets Caris and the dog has disappeared, he’s not sure what’s going on. With the help of some friends, they discover what the fae are up to, but can Liam open his heart again to love and to music in order to save Caris? STORM WARNED is captivating! I didn’t feel as if I missed anything important by not reading the first two books in the Grim series. The characters are great and the world the author has built is strongly reminiscent of the original dark faery tales. STORM WARNED is an excellent story. I was immediately engaged with the characters and the unfolding events. I plan on going back and reading the first two books in the Grim series if they’re anywhere as good as STORM WARNED!

STORM WARNED is the third book in the Grim series by Dani Harper. It introduces Caris and Liam. I reallt liked Caris she's fun, smart, beautiful, feisty and independent. Caris’s bold musical talent catches the attention of the Wild Hunt, leading to her being taken and forced to serve as a Grimm, a herald of death. Music was Liam’s life up until betrayal left him desperate, broken and in need of hiding from the world. Liam is a bit broken and lost in the beginning but he comes through for Caris when she needs him. I liked them and the chemistry they had. You can easily find yourself cheering them on.

I loved loved loved that Ranyon was in this book also. He os my favorite character over all. It was also nice that the Queen and Lurien are in this book.

I am still hoping Lurien gets a book. HINT HINT Ms. Harper ;)

I look forward to and hope there are more books in this series coming.

Bought the book loved and chose to leave a review.

I haven't read the first two books in this series, but having read and enjoyed Storm Warned, I might just have to. The way Harper weaves Celtic mythology into modern-day America is really well done. Her fae are just as they should be - beautiful, horrible, wonderful, weird and terrifying. Her characters are well-written and her stories are part fairy tale, part modern romance. I'll be interested to see how this series progresses.

All Caris Dillwyn wanted was music, humming, singing, playing it was all the same to her but her father forbade it and decreed it as sin, so did their minister. Caris snuck off to the woods to enjoy it to her hearts content. Until a brutal fae prince came and decreed she would be an awesome weapon. Poof, Caris was a voiceless Grim for the next two centuries.

Betrayed by two people he trusted with everything, rising musical star, Liam Cole walked away from what had been his life for as long as he could remember. Liam took over his uncle’s farm and became a hermit refusing all requests for concerts, albums, interviews. But a horrid storm did it’s best to ruin all Liam had been building and he had to call for help.

Liam was concerned about an injured dog caught in the storm and realized he also was hurt. A childhood playmate had become a vet and came to help. Caris was seen trying to run away from the pack and her cruel fae master; she was struck by lightning and fae magic as the fae prince began executing his plan to take over the fae and human worlds.

Well written but, if you read the first two books in the series this can seem a bit redundant. You pretty much know the set up and by the third time you know what will happen next. The change up of the female Grim and incorporating the magic of music was wonderful, especially as I believe that music is life. Well written over all though! Captivating book and sucks you into the pages to not escape until you are forced to put it down. I don't know how many times I went back from my lunch late from reading! I lost track of all time.

Great battle

I really enjoyed listening and reading . I have read all four books. The first book I bought, but haven't read it. First purchased. I bought the other books during an sale of month offered. It is worth the prices I paid for. I try to buy different books that isn't in my personal interest. In the past I have purchased many books from the monthly offerings sales. They have been great books.

Wow! Great story

I absolutely loved the side story with the queen and her right hand man better than the main characters.

The main couple is good but felt as though their love was rushed. The queens story however was great. The ending is oh my gosh.

Must read!!! I am on to the next book.
