Sinners of Blackthorne U #5

Beautiful When He Breaks

ELI
I’m supposed to have a plan.
Instead, I have a baby daughter dropped into my life without warning, parents who’d rather disown me than stand by me, and a future that looks nothing like the one I thought I was building.
The only thing keeping me steady is the one person who’s always been there—my best friend.
Julian has been my constant for as long as I can remember. My home. My person. I just never let myself question why losing him once felt worse than losing anyone else. But Julian is carrying demons of his own, and loving him might be the one thing that finally destroys us both.

JULIAN
I’ve been in love with Eli for as long as I can remember, and I’ve spent just as long knowing he could never be mine.
So, I let myself get lost in something toxic, something destructive, something that nearly broke me. The last person I ever expected to save me was Eli. Now he’s looking at me differently, touching me differently, loving me in ways I never let myself dream about.
But I’m damaged, ashamed, and still learning how to believe I deserve something good. Eli might be the only thing I’ve ever wanted—but wanting him has always been the most dangerous thing I could do.

Beautiful When He Breaks is the fifth book in the interconnected Sinners of Blackthorne U series, but it is a complete standalone. Readers are advised to approach with caution and ensure they are comfortable with the listed triggers and content warnings before proceeding.

This book was just the sweetest heartfelt surprise in this dark romance series. I have been looking forward to the release of this one since I finished the last book in the series.

Avery Collins prose is absolutely beautiful as always. To me, Julian and Eli are easily the sweetest Blackthorne couple yet. There were moments where I almost forgot I was reading a dark romance because their chemistry is so tender and full of cute, heart felt moments. They are thrown into an incredibly horrible difficult, and yet somehow also beautiful, situation. The way they navigate it together was everything.

My jaw was on the floor when the reveal happened regarding Julian's mess. I loved how Julian held Eli's world together while it was crumbling despite his own struggles. He did it in the most gentle, loving way possible. I adored both of them completely.

I also have to touch on my favorite side character. Mila is an absolute cutie. I'm immediately putting in my application to join the duck cult (if you know, you know). And obviously, Killian remains my favorite, as the stable grounded “dad” of the Sin Bin. Watching him and the rest of the house flip their lives upside down without question to support Eli was the most beautiful found family moments.

This series just gets better and better, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next. I just know Ryan's book is going to be a ride.

In the end, what matters are the feelings left behind after you've been on this massive journey. And this book delivers in spades. It deals with so many important issues and doesn't shy away from the details. And amidst all that, the writing captures the first few months of paternity and the angst of having a newborn in the house. The portrayal is both spot on and also a little fantastical. Hardly anyone has the support of a Killian King and the back up of chosen brothers so fierce. And that is the comforting beauty of this story. The back bone. The solidarity. The love. The HEA is happily crushing and makes you forget all the darkness that came before.
Another wonderful read from Avery Collins

..The first half of the book: Thoughts

Every emotional trick is used in the book. That is what Avery Collins uses in this story. She drags out the angst, pining, self doubt and a ton load of self sacrifice. This friends/idiots to lovers hits all the nerves. Unfortunately for me, so much so, that I skimmed ...a lot, through it to get to the relieving parts. That's not a reflection on the book, it's a reflection on idiot slow burn - friends to lovers definitely not being my favorite trope. So I hung in there and skimmed the boring , over explained, overthinking parts and enjoyed the good parts.

That all said...the second part of the book brings in all the goodness of the brothers from the Sin Bin. This is the stuff that makes this series stand out. The darkness and the support system they all give each other. Loved it!!!
I absolutely love this series😎✨✌️🙈🙉🙊

Could not put this down and stayed up past my bedtime to finish it. This is my new favorite out of the series. It was devastating, heart wrenching, and tender.

Eli and Jules were made for each other. 🥹

Also, can’t wait to read Ryan’s book next and I feel like we’re all being edged by Collins’ re: Killian’s inevitable book.

Received an arc in exchange for my honest review.

Definitely my favorite in this series! After the first book, the others have been a bit of a letdown for me, so I was careful not to expect too much from this one, but it really surprised me—in the best way. 4.25⭐️

This was such a great best-friends-to-lovers read. It’s a true slow burn, but you can feel the love between Julian and Eli right from the start. I really liked both of them as individuals too. I especially appreciated Eli taking responsibility and standing up to his parents. And Julian completely won my heart—and surely the hearts of all the other readers too. The way he cared for Eli was just beautiful. Talk about meant to be. I also liked that we later get a more detailed look at how their relationship began. The story doesn’t spend too much time on their early days, but somehow, it gives us just the right amount.

There was just the right amount of spice too—quality over quantity, which I prefer. Their first time felt so natural and emotional.

And that epilogue…🥹 I generally don’t care that much for epilogues, but this one was so good.
And we also got a couple scenes with Dominic and Brendon (Dirty Hit)—love it.

This was so good but not perfect—there were a few minor flaws. At times, it was close to being a little too sappy and there were some really long, slightly repetitive internal monologues. But nothing that affected my reading experience too much.

There were also a couple of scenes where the build-up was so good, only for the actual moments to feel like they were suddenly cut short and robbed from me as a reader. 😩 I mean, I guess it was intented but also frustrating. But the book made up for it in so many other ways.

I’m also not sure the whole Blakely subplot was really necessary. Not that it weakened the story—it mostly took a back seat anyway—but with everything else already going on in the plot, it felt like maybe a little unnecessary.

But this whole group—the scenes with the Sin Bin guys were so good!! We got more Killian… love him (who doesn’t at this point??) Seriously, what would the others even do without him? 😂 And in the epilogue, ”Kee!”—my heart!! 😭🖤

And Luca—I didn’t care much for his book when it came out, but here, his character was the perfect addition.

Also, now I can’t wait for Ryan’s book. He’s such an amusing character, and I’m already intrigued. And Matteo Vieri… I don’t want to set my expectations too high just yet, but that book cannot possibly be boring.

“I’m sorry for not seeing you sooner. For not understanding what was right in front of me. For… For hurting you.”
“Liefling. You seeing me now is enough.”

“Fuck, baby. Give me more of those sounds. Let me hear how good I make you feel. Been starving for it.

“Don’t hold back on me. I wanna hear every fucking noise you make. I’ve earned them.”
YES, you have🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

“Thank you,” I murmur.
He pulls back, and his expression changes to one of confusion. ”For what?”
I shrug one shoulder and let my hand rest over his heart. “For making it feel safe.” ❤️‍🩹

“But it was you. It was always you. I think I just needed to put it somewhere I could keep it when I didn’t think I’d ever get to say it.”

“You’re beautiful when you break for me. So fucking beautiful.”

I am petitioning to join the duck cult! The Sin Bin is truly the best found family I have ever read, and they really make this story because, to me, this was the darkest book in the series so far. There are some heavy topics that happen off page and are then addressed on page, so please read the trigger warnings if you’re sensitive to certain content.
The first half of this book was a roller coaster. Between Eli and Julian, there were some serious revelations being made that had me on the edge of my seat and itching to see what would happen next. However, things slowly started to taper off, and the suspense and angst died down. It felt like the beginning was so jam-packed with storylines that then had to be quickly wrapped up that, by the time we finally got to Eli and Julian, they didn’t have much page time left. And there were only TWO on-page spice scenes. Two. I don’t know about you, but I NEED the spice, and with how much focus was placed on outside factors in the first half, I was expecting LOTS of spicy times once they finally got together 😩. Eli and Julian’s long-awaited romantic relationship developed seamlessly, and that was great to see as someone who has been a fan of this series since book one. But with this being a romance… the romance was somehow the thing focused on the least. There just weren’t enough moments with the two of them together for me. By the end, the conclusions to their individual storylines felt rushed, while their relationship left me wanting more. I loved finally seeing them together, I just wish we’d gotten more time to actually enjoy them being together.

Eli and Julian were two lovely characters. I adored them deeply because their relationship was bittersweet yet beautiful. Even though I was in love with both of the protagonists, the plot couldn’t convince me to love this book as a whole. It makes me a bit sad because the concept and the characters were endearing.

WOW! This was my first thought the moment I ended the book. With a smile on my face because HEA of course. This is truly an impactful story and although I love my spice, and don't you worry you do have some, the way it came about was perfect. The book really didn't need a ton of it and when it happens it works perfectly within the story. The emotions that I went through while reading this was such a wide range and I was captivated.

Eli and Julian have been friends for most of their lives but in the beginning of this book, something has happened to make it to where there is tension between the two. They aren't really speaking with each other and we see how hard it is on Julian as he has been secretly in love with his best friend for as long as he can remember. It didn't seem like it was a huge fight but something that separated them from each other for a little while. Then all of a sudden something happens and Eli is going to need his best friend more than ever.

The way these situations going on was handled by the author was with such care and in a way where things happen off page but are spoken about on page. That's what I loved about this book. That we are dealing with the aftermath of trauma instead of having the trauma explicitly written out. You still get the small nuances of what happened but without having to read about all that occurred . Definitely be prepared to go through some difficult moments.

I love found families and this book really gives you that by miles. This group of guys living together really rally around each other when aituations arise. They love each other fiercely even if someone likes to pretend he isn't a big softie, *cough* Killian *cough*. This is definitely a book you won't want to miss out on.

Beta Review

How do I even put all my thoughts into words…

This book is truly special. I absolutely loved it. From start to finish I was hooked. I believe if I’d had access to all the chapters at one time, I’d have finished this book in a day. There would have been no way in hell I was putting this book down. This is my favorite of all of Avery’s books and I’ve read them all, so that’s some pretty high praise. It is a 6/5 and I don’t even usually give 6/5s. It’s up there with some of my favorite books of all time. It just has such a special place in my heart.

Julian and Eli were everything I could have ever wanted and more. Their story is heartbreaking, emotional, and moving. It was messy and complicated, but that’s life! That despite everything they come out the other side. It’s such a beautiful story. I found myself crying, laughing, kicking my feet, and yelling at my screen more times than I can count. So many different emotions throughout this story, Avery definitely put me through it this time! I could go on about these two forever, they just have my heart! I don’t know what to tell you guys!

Thank you to Avery for allowing me to beta read this book! It was amazing and an opportunity I will never forget. I honestly don’t know how I got so lucky, but I will forever be grateful. It was truly a dream come true!

And to all of you! Put this on your TBR, get ready, you’re in for an amazing story. You will not want to miss it on August 26th. Can’t wait to see all your reactions <3

Please Note: I did receive a copy of this book in advance from the author for my honest review!

🏈🏉 All roads lead back to Eli Matthews. Always. Every time 🐥💛

"I know Eli Matthews in ways I've spent months trying to bury because loving your best friend while he chooses someone who hurts him is a special kind of self-inflicted hell."

"I want to kill every person who ever taught him his pain had to look neat before it deserved care."

"I missed you."
"I never went anywhere. You just stopped looking."

"All roads lead back to Eli Matthews. Always. Every time."

"Because I'd still be here if you hated me. Because loving you has never been contingent on getting anything back, and I'd rather tear my own skin off than make you feel indebted to me for that."

"I keep loving him from the space beside him because, right now, that's the only place I'm allowed to stand."

"I'm sorry for not seeing you sooner. For not understanding what was right in front of me. For hurting you."
"Liefling. You seeing me now is enough."

"Julian is propped up on one elbow watching us both with this look on his face that makes something in me settle in the deepest place I've got. My best friend. My Jules. The guy who's been right here all along."

"Our daughter. Mine by blood, his by choice, those two words held between us in a room full of things I never expected to want and now can't imagine surviving without."

"I would watch every terrible thing in the world before I let you face it alone."

"I'm sorry. I see it now. I see you. I see us. I'm here."

"You're beautiful when you break for me. So f****** beautiful."

"He chose me. He chose me after everything. He chose me with his hands shaking and his voice rough and his eyes open."

"Fifteen years ago, he argued with me over a rugby ball. This morning, he stands in front of me with our whole impossible future tucked against his chest, messy and fragile and real."

"I did not know kissing my best friend would feel like coming home and jumping off a cliff at the same time."

When the author's note makes you tear up, you know this story will break you and will take you on an emotional ride. This author is not only my favorite author, but everything she writes is phenomenal. She doesn't shy away from sensitive or traumatic topics. I love that she touched on certain topics in this story that usually aren't talked on or mostly get ignored (male SA). Her delivery on these sensitive topics was written with care and flawlessly. This was a slow burn with not much spice, and once you read this story, you will understand why. It made the build-up of their relationship, intimacy, and trust that much stronger. The found family aspect in this series is the best I have ever read. These Sin Bin boys with their loalyalty, brotherhood, and shenanigans are everything! I loved the Brendon and Dom cameos. I can't wait for Matteo and Ryan's story next. I screamed loudly when I saw his last name as Vieri!! Mila was a gem in this story. I loved seeing all these men wrapped around her finger. Especially Killian 🥹.

This story follows Eli and Julian. We finally get to see why these two suddenly have a fractured friendship. We learn that Eli was ghosted by his ex Celeste and Julian kept telling Eli she was no good. Jules has been in love with Eli for a very long time. A baby appears on their doorstep with a note from her saying she's Eli's. Eli is confused as he's never slept with her 😔. So much starts to happen. We see a legal process start and DNA proving she is Eli's. Eli is having a rough time juggling being a dad, going to classes, football, and coming to terms that he was assaulted. We see all these boys rally around him, baby proof the house, and a duck cult is formed 🐥😅. Meanwhile, Jules is hiding bruises and dealing with his own predator. These boys rebuild their friendship even stronger. Eli starts to see Jules in a new light and slowly, their relationship evolves into lovers. We see a lot of emotions from these men. So much pain, grief, shame, and hurt. But there is so much healing and rebuilding along the way.

These two men were so sweet and beautiful. I loved everything about their relationship and seeing it evolve. The growth these two went through was a beautiful thing to read. I loved the slow rebuild of their friendship that turned into intimacy. I loved how they both always supported each other. They always checked in on each other. When silence was what they needed, they just stood and waited by one another. Seeing Jules step up and be everything Eli and Mila needed was everything 🥹. I loved all the baby scenes and seeing them be fathers. All the scenes with the Sin Bin boys as uncle's had me cackling loud 🤣. I hated Eli's parents so much and I was so proud he stood up to them. The vulnerable moments broke my heart 😭. The best part of this book was the support from all of the boys. Killian as usual stepped up big time. That man is something else. The ending of this book gave me happy tears, especially seeing Kill vulnerable 👀. I also loved the justice that was served in the epilogue! Thank you Dom. I need the next book now! 🏈🏉🐥💛👶🍼🫂

This was beautifully written. The issues discussed in this book were handled so delicately. I trusted Avery would handle it before even picking up this book. Julian and Eli's story broke my heart and healed it in the same breath. Two broken men finding love and healing with each other.

I liked how the author wrote Eli's character; it was realistic in a way that made it almost painful. Cause that is almost the first thought of people who were sexually assaulted: the self-blaming, the self-loathing and the immense feeling of shame even though you were the one wronged. To make things worse, it always came with victim-blaming of some kind. I am glad the Sin Bin boys were not the kind of horrible that will hear about sexual assault, the first thing they do is blame the victims.

Julian, beautiful Julian, his character was so well written. Usually, we as humans have a lot to say when people get abused, like "it's not your fault", "you couldn't have stopped it", "it was abuse", until you are the victim. Then the line blurs, the self-blaming starts, and you feel you were at fault somehow; that was who Julian was. I really loved reading about their healing journey; it wasn't beautiful and magical like people would say it is; it was ugly and messy and oh so heartbreaking. Mila was so adorable; she had no idea she was the one reason her father didn't give up and kept moving forward.

The Sin bin boys were amazing and supportive. The kind of support that didn't feel suffocating; they just showed up and created space for baby Mila. I loved them all, especially Killian and Luca. They were really the backbone of the group. This is the first book I am reading from the series, and I will definitely be reading the rest.

Celeste and Bradley were a different kind of evil. I am glad they got punishment for all they did. Parents with conditional love for their kids and pompous self-righteousness do not deserve to be talked about.

Thank you, Avery, for giving me a chance to read this story. This was an ARC read, and please do not forget to read your trigger warnings!

What can I say? Somehow, this was different from what I expected—and even better than I’d already imagined. I haven’t read the previous books in the series (yet), but I read the tropes for this one and I just couldn't resist.

And I loved every second of it—these two guys, wow, they really got under my skin! The tenderness in everything they did, the absolute, unconditional love they showed each other and Mila—it was incredibly moving and really grabbed me on an emotional level ❤️. The story is far from all sunshine and roses, but that made it all the more real and poignant.

“Found family” at its very best. And let’s talk about Killian 😳🔥! He’s simply the best, for heaven’s sake—I’m now going to spend my time waiting for his story.

Well, as you can tell, I’m thrilled and absolutely looking forward to reading the other books in the Sinners of Blackthorne U series. I think they have every potential to join the ranks of my favorite series!

Avery Collins does it again. These books just keep getting better and better and better and better. Usually with romance series like this every book is just regurgitated and the same characters and plot lines are written, but not with Avery Collins. Every book has been so different, so beautiful and heartbreaking in its own way. You can tell they have been throughly thought out and written with intention. This might be my favourite one yet. I loved Liam and Nate’s book but this just had such a deep emotional connection to it, I truly could not stop reading. Avery is in my top 3 all time authors and I will devour everything she ever writes.

I received an advance copy from the author for my honest review.

Oh man. I picked this up because I absolutely adore the surprise baby trope in MM romances. This one did not disappoint. I absolutely died for all of the found family vibes and watching those men trip over themselves for a little tiny baby. The uncordinated obsession with ducks 😍 Killian and the baby... I mean come. On.

That epilogue was EVERYTHING. I love these men so much. So much. Kee 😍😍😍

The side stories for Eli and Julian absolutely broke my heart. I hate that they each went through so much pain. But I loved watching the group gathers round each of them. They never had to question if they were loved or supported. All of the discussions on shame absolutely tore me up.

Eli's parents.... Let's just say I have some strong words for them that can't be spoken in polite society.

I have a new favorite nickname - Liefling. Absolutely nothing will top that I don't think.

I absolutely need Killian's book. Now please.

This was surprisingly sweet and cute in a dark setting. If you've read the previous books, you'll know there will be toxicity and very dark themes, but this was light compared to the others and it was so nice to read about. Eli and Julian both have their struggles and demons, but how they come together and how they are there for each other was so sweet.

‼️SPOILERS‼️
🌟 Read Your Triggers 🌟

I knew without a doubt that I was going to love this book but I just wasn’t expecting how much I was going to enjoy it. This book includes some heavy topics and the best slow burn I’ve ever read.

First out, this little girl, Mila, has all of these guys in the Sin Bin wrapped around her finger. And how and why Eli chose her name was perfection. If not for Eli and Julian, Killian is her favorite person. The epilogue had me swooning because the name she gives Killian was so freaking cute.

I fall in love with Killian more because he’s got that whole don’t mess with my family or else. The things that these guys did for Julian, Eli and Mila made my heart melt! The protectiveness was perfection. I cannot wait for his book whenever we get it.

What Eli goes through is so hard. The fact that he was drug and assaulted, Avery really shows that men can be abused as well by what both Eli and Julian go through. The growth and the healing they go through is everything I didn’t know I could ever want.

When we actually get to the chapter of Julian’s assault, I teared up so hard. I wanted to hug Julian so much because what happened to him was so rough.

Mila’s first doctor appointment had me cackling because Eli was losing his mind. And ugh; when Julian explains what Liefling means to Eli, my heart about melted!

God, this book hit my emotions in the right spot because this whole book had me in my feelings. I truly wasn’t expecting to be an emotional mess but to have all the good feelings.

If you love best friends to lovers, the cutest little baby that has all the men wrapped around her fingers, the best found family and so many good feelings.

I was not expecting the surprise characters that popped in and I was cackling during that whole scenario!

Ryan is a hoot! So many instances with him had me shaking my head.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

ARC Review

Reading Eli and Julian’s story was absolutely amazing.

I adored every single second of this book even if certain characters made me contemplate dark and scary things 🤬🤬. They know exactly who they are😤😤

The audacity of some of them 😡😡😡. I swear if lightning struck them down I wouldn’t even blink. Karma would just be enacting itself on them.

Some of the scenes I read with certain 🤬 characters had me screaming and ready to throw things (thankfully not my kindle. This time).

Something I loved about this story was how much the Sin Bon rallied round Julian and Eli. More than ready to help them in any way they could. I absolutely adore found family and this book had a whole load of it.

Moving on to our main characters 🥹. These two tugged on my heart, broke it and then slowly mended it back together again throughout. 😭😭. There’s so many scenes I wish I could talk about, where these two had me almost sobbing.

Eli getting his unexpected surprise. Julian finally revealing his secret. Both moments were shocking, painful and heartbreaking to read. Nothing could have prepared me for what both of them uncovered.

These two went from not speaking, to mending their friendship to slowly finding their way into each other’s hearts. While one may have pinned for the other for years, watching them come together was beautiful 🥹.

I may have beta read this but arc reading it just brought all those emotions back ten fold. Even when I knew how parts of this story were going to turn out I still held my breath, raged in others and cried at almost everything. 🥹🥹

There is very little spice this book something I absolutely loved. This story worked so well without it. You watched them come together on their own terms, and regain part of themselves they lost, through no fault of their own.

Don’t go into this book expecting heat off the bat. This story isn’t it. While yes there are spicy moments between these two, they don’t happen right away. When they happen it’s because both of them feel ready not before.

Eli and Julian’s bond was strong when they were friends and that doesn’t change once they become more than that. If anything it just intensifies. Neither of them want to see the other get hurt again and will do everything in their power to make sure it doesn’t happen.

Like the other books a certain hockey captain makes his appearance 🤭. And goodness did I love seeing this side of him. I’m not going to spill too much because that would ruin the fun but if you loved Killian’s appearance in the other books, this one isn’t going to disappoint.

Especially after you read the epilogue 🤭🫠.

This whole story was a beautifully painful experience. One that I didn’t read once but twice. As painful and emotional as this book was, I’d read it over and over again just to watch these two fall in love. The journey they went on wasn’t easy far from it but it was so worth the emotion and heartache.

There was also an intriguing moment between a fellow sin bin member (not Killian) and a new character 👀👀. Now that’s a story I can’t wait to read.

If you’re planning on reading this story have tissues and a pillow ready. You’ll need them. I thought Noah and Damien’s book made me emotional 😭, this story hit me like a freight train 😭😭. The tears were worth it though 🥹🥹.

Avery…..let’s have a chat!!! This book!!! Made!! Me!!! Cry!!!

So.
Very.
Much.

And also rage???? And scream??? And want to knock a few people out too??? Might be my favourite Blackthorne U couple next to Damon & Roman.
When Avery said she was bringing hurt comfort she was not fucking lying, I’m pretty sure I was full on sobbing at some points and cursing her out as I always do.

Eli and Jules are EVERYTHING, and little Mila is the light in the darkness of it all and she is so so precious. I love how she has the Sin Bin boys wrapped around her finger. And how every boy interacts so differently.

Listen, Jules yearns a lot in this book and it rips your heart out sometimes cause you just want Eli to open his dang eyeballs and look at what’s right in front of him. I was screaming at him actually!! Eventually, they get their shit together but it’s a longgggg process and they go through plenty of adversity but on the other side of it they find healing too. The thing about these two is they just fucking get each other. They SEE each other for who they really are. They see their entire soul, heart, and mind. It’s absolutely stunning. And maybe it’s because they’ve been friends for decades but when you know who your person is, the rest of it all makes sense. Most of my highlights is just Eli and Julian being well—them. Their bantering, their playfulness, their comforts, their cute as all hell moments that make you wanna kick your feet.

I’d also like to command Avery on her ability to talk about hard topics and she does it with an incredible amount of passion, and delicacy. She doesn’t shy away from the brutality of said hard topics but also makes you look at it without wanting to turn away.

A lot of this book will make you want to scream at the unfairness of it all. It’ll make you want to rage that actual human beings are like this and feel it’s okay to hurt someone so cruelly, to the point it changes them and makes them fear for what’s next. It’ll make you realize the importance of having your safe people and that you’re never alone even if everything feels so fucking isolating. And finally, that even with all the fear, trauma, loneliness, and hurt, beautiful, amazing things can grow out of them.

This is one of Avery’s best work and it came a really really close second to Reign for me. She is truly an extraordinary author whose prose never fails to amaze me. She makes you gasp with one sentence because of how insanely written it is. Beautiful When He breaks was no different.

I look at him now, and I see a man trying so hard not to break apart in front of everyone that he’s holding himself together with sheer force and not much else.

I’ve been in love with him for so long it barely feels like love anymore. It feels structural and built in. A load-bearing wall in the center of me that I stopped trying to knock down because all it ever did was leave me bruised and still standing in the same place.

not for the first time, that love wears some strange fucking shapes.

Just some examples and this is just scratching the surface of Avery’s writing. I urge you to start her backlist now and so we can all freak out together!!!

PS. she fed us with these Killian crumbs and I ate them the FUCK UP.

So….. I’ve been here since the beginning. Fell in love with Roman. Watched all these boys become men, actually finding themselves, accepting themselves, accepting love. This is still on that continuation, all be it a more tender installment. One thing that is always constant though is Killian. I have my nicknames for him. Killian; Mama Sin Bin. Mother of the Lost Boys. Luca as Bi Godmother is on par as well!

He doesn’t need my pain right now. He needs my spine. That’s everything you need to know about Jules. About his devotion, his level of self and want he is willing to sacrifice. That’s him as a person. “I never went anywhere. You just stopped looking” his brand of commitment, of patience, of loyalty. Though he was going through hell, his beliefs and heart never wavered. He was living his trauma in real time, just unable to claw out while also trying to protect those around him. Pure is the word that comes to mind, though I’m sure Jules would never agree.

Eli-naive, brash, reluctant, others beliefs come first, beliefs that were trained into him through shame and guilt and threats, almost reluctant towards himself, engrained that what he wants doesn’t really matter in the whole scheme of things. You do what is right, how it is right, and for the reasons it is right. Anything beyond that is unacceptable in the eyes of God, but more importantly, in our eyes! His world has been artificially molded to be the epitome of what a richeous, virtuous, well versed and religious family should have as a son. He has no idea almost of how the real world turns. Like he could never venture out of those lines that were drawn for him, and it showed how terrified he was that his reality had now shifted beyond those well painted lines. Honestly, it’s terrifying in its own right because of how many people actually live with this reality. I kept thinking that every time Eli would have a flashback, or an unwarranted thought about his claustrophobic reality. But when he fully looked at his daughter, recognizing her as his and he as hers, and almost no questions regarding that broke through that initial barrier, I can’t explain how much I melted. How fast he accepted that he WAS a father, and he wanted to hold her. I’m used to these Sin Bin boys being a certain way. I read Roman and Damon’s book right when it came out and followed along the whole way with Mother Killian by my side. I’m still in awe of what we get each time another book comes out. I still relish each and every one of the boys’ POV, their story, their addition to the series. Their outpour of events from their minds. This is a series that will always be with me since I was w/ the author from the start, and i can’t express enough how much I love being here for the ride.
You love Kill more with every book. His steadfast devotion. Once that baby crossed the threshold, she’s one of us.

“She looks too peaceful for the amount of damage she has done to my life in less than 48 hours” but said with tenderness, without fault, with devotion and adoration.
Killian “being scared doesn’t make you unfit, asking for help doesn’t make you weak, loving doesn’t make you stupid. It makes you human”

4.5 rounded up to a 5. Like I said, I love each and every book in a different way and I can’t wait to read the other series in this universe. I’m not sure how to handle myself when we finally get Kill’s book. I ARC read Dirty Hit so their little cameo was a little treat indeed! Highly recommend not just this book, but the whole Blackthorne U series and all coming books in this universe!!! READ IT!!!!!

Eli and Julian - Book 5 in the Sinners of Blackthorne series.

Well, this book sucked me right in from the get-go and wouldn't let me go.

I was invested in these two from the very first page and quickly made my way through the entire book. When I got closer to the end, I forced myself to slow down because I didn't want my time with these boys to be at an end just yet - although I was able to take comfort in the fact that there are still more stories to tell in this series.

In this book, we've got Eli and Julian, two male bestie MMC's, who have recently grown apart thanks to a certain female who was frankly more than a bit of a mole (mole is really putting it lightly). She up and disappears leaving a void between the two that neither knows how to cross until a knock at the door... On the other side of said door? A baby, Eli's baby with said mole.

Without giving too much away, both Eli and Julian get put through the absolute wringer in this one. Eli is dealing with becoming a father and all that it entails. Julian has his own set of problems that he has managed to get himself into that are slowly breaking him apart. Everything was looking a bit bleak and a bit hopeless for a second there but then... there are two areas where this book was able to really shine and that was the friendship between Eli and Julian and then the found family vibe between these two and the rest of the dudes in this college house.

Everyone comes together, steps up and helps out in this book. It was so refreshing to see guys actually leaning on their mates to help them out when times are tough. It didn't happen immediately but even just them offering and letting Eli and Julian know that they're there when they needed support was so lovely to read.

Then of course there's the friendship that blossoms so beautifully into something more between Eli and Julian. Julian has always been in love with Eli, but Eli, coming from a religious background with two wackadoo parents, was operating under the impression that he was straight and would always be so. It's not until his life is thrown into literal upheaval and he sees his parents for who they really are and what their beliefs are doing to his mental health that he realises what and who is going to make him happy.

I just loved it. It was so good. I want a shelf copy of this whole series now and can't wait for a certain someone's book... you know who I'm talking about if you've read this series...

So far in this series, I've read book one and then jumped straight into an ARC read of this book. I plan on going back as soon as I have a free moment and reading 2, 3 and 4 as well to gain a better understanding of the other couples mentioned in this book as well. It is not necessary to have read all the previous books in order to follow along with this book, but it will certainly provide a lot more detail and context for the side characters mentioned in this book. Definitely check content warnings with this one as we deal with some heavy topics throughout and then I hope you enjoy!

Before reading please look at the TW at the beginning of the book.
"Beautiful when he Breaks", is the fifth book in the Sinners of Blackthorne U series by Avery Collins. Julian and Eli have been best friends for a long time so long they know every little tell and body change the other one has. However Eli and Julian have had a disagreement and aren't on the same page like they have always been. That changes however when a one month old baby is left at the door of the "Sin Bin" with a note and paperwork saying she is Eli's. There is one small problem Eli never slept with the young woman Celeste that he can remember. Eli needs Julian all the pettiness of their fight goes out the window and they are back to being the best of friends. Eli really needs the strength of his best friend but what Eli doesn't realize is Julian needs Eli's strength just as much. See while Eli was being angry with Julian, he found himself in a situation that he can't get out of and its becoming more and more dangerous and soul crushing for Julian. When Eli begins the process of figuring out what happened to him and how he has to fight for his daughter. Julian is trying to keep his head above water and he's at the point he needs help. As Eli and Julian begin to navigate the turmoil they are in feelings begin to change. For Julian he has always loved Eli so much so he gave him a term of endearment that Eli never figures out its meaning until now. Eli however he finding that maybe the feelings he has had for Julian are maybe more than being just friends. When they begin to act on these feelings the chemistry is undeniable and their love for each other begins to burn brightly. You an feel the love they have for each other they have become a family. Not just Eli and Julian but the entire Sin Bin family this is evident when Eli's daughter Mila takes her first steps. Ryan, Thorne, Luca, Liam, Nate , Adrian and even grouchy Killian have all fallen in love with Eli's daughter. Together with Julian they have found a family and a love that will only grow stronger with time. I loved this book I have read the entre series so far and I have to admit Eli and Julian are my favorites. The way that they love each other you want that you want that love that will be all consuming and catch you when you fall. That is the type of love Eli and Julian have it way beautiful to read about and to discover just how much they truly needed and loved each other.

I couldn't put this book down. I literally finished it in one day because it was just too good and juicy as hell. 😂 There wasn't much spice between Eli and Julian, but honestly, it wasn't needed because this book was really about forgiveness, maturing, and friendship.

I love reading friends-to-lovers books because there is something so special about transitioning a friendship into a romantic relationship. You already know this person—you know their quirks, dislikes, strengths, fears, and goals—and when those feelings start to change, it makes the whole thing incredible to read as a reader.

Eli did some hurtful things to Julian, but for some reason, I couldn't really stay mad at him. What his ex did to him was wrong on so many levels, and honestly, I was happy she got the ending she deserved because what she did was cruel and evil. She deserved every bit of the consequences that came her way. Eli was manipulated, and when you're in love—or think you're in love—with someone, everyone else becomes noise. Deep down, you convince yourself that the relationship needs to be protected, so I could understand why Eli did what he did to Julian, even though it was still wrong. He was emotionally abused and manipulated into believing that he was doing the right thing.

I'm really happy with how everything turned out and how their relationship developed throughout the story. I'm especially happy that Julian was such a forgiving and understanding person.

And Julian—WOW. What a strong and powerful character. I honestly wish there were more people like him. He is such an inspiration because he refused to let the darkness he experienced make him bitter, mean, or cold. He had every reason to become that way, but eventually, he realized that enough was enough and that it was time to speak up. That takes so much courage.

Honestly, this book also made me realize something very important: rape can happen to anyone, regardless of whether they are male or female. If someone does not give consent and another person ignores or overrides that lack of consent, that is rape. It was difficult to read about these experiences, but I think it was an important topic to discuss. It is something we should take seriously, talk about, and remember.

I absolutely fell in love with this book.
I love this whole series although you can read it as a standalone. The world Avery Collins has created with Blathorne U and the way she’s intertwined these books is why she’s one of my favorite authors. The Sin Bin is thriving with its usual chaos until a baby is left on their doorstep with a note. They quickly learn it’s Eli’s baby, a baby he had no idea existed and in a moment of panic he instantly looks for comfort in his bestfriend Julian. They have both gone through a lot of trauma, there friendship is rocky but they are each others person.

This was written so well, I found myself really sitting with the story instead of rushing through it. I genuinely enjoyed reading about Julian and Eli although they go through such heart breaking trauma the way they hold each other up is so important. This is one of the most beautifully written slow burns I have had the pleasure of reading. I didn’t find myself waiting for the spice because it was there when it was needed, but the way their relationship grew before the intimacy was so beautiful, kind and what these two both needed and felt so right in their story. The intimacy between them evolved into something so genuine kind and trusting. Julians patient love for Eli is so special, the way these two are there for eachother is so important. Fatherhood is also another important aspect of this book and was written so beautifully. The way Eli accepts and embraces his roll as a father was so adorable.

Julian and Eli are so clearly each other’s person, that person who is there for you no matter what.

The found family aspect In this universe, specially Beautiful when He Breaks is so important. These men are there for eachother without question and with such loyalty. The instances we get of Killian are absolutely legendary.

And OMG wait until you get to the epilogue 🫶🤭.

Avery Collins wrote such a beautiful story I can’t say enough how much I loved this book and how well it was written 💜.

Beautiful When He Breaks completely surprised me. I hadn’t read the first four books in the series, but this worked perfectly as a standalone, and now I NEED to go back and read them all because I absolutely fell in love with this found family. Every single character brought something to the story, and I already know I’m going to miss them.

Eli and Julian completely stole my heart. Julian has been in love with his best friend for years, so the yearning in this book? PERFECT. I suffered with him, I rooted for him, and watching Eli finally realize what everyone else had apparently known all along was everything. 🥹

I also loved Eli’s growth throughout the story. He starts off terrified and completely lost after a baby is left on his doorstep, not even knowing how to hold her, and ends up fighting with everything he has for his daughter. And seeing him face his own fears and accept his feelings for Julian without turning it into endless internal drama was something I really appreciated.

And then there’s Mila. 🐤💜 That little girl was EVERYTHING. I loved watching this whole group of huge, badass athletes completely surround her with love and support. The found family aspect was definitely one of my favorite parts of the book.

The story also tackles some heavy topics, including male sexual assault, and I really appreciated that it brought attention to something that is so often overlooked or dismissed. Men can be victims too, and I think it’s important to see that reality acknowledged in romance.

If there’s one thing I needed more of in this story, it was Eli and Julian together. After all that yearning and finally getting to see them find their way to each other, I just wanted more time with them as a couple. More of their relationship, more of them being in love, more of them simply being together. I could honestly read another 200 pages of these two. Give me MORE. 😭

If you love yearning, best friends to lovers, found family, a surprise baby, and a duck cult 🐤 you NEED to read this one. 💜

Join the duck cult

This book is different from the others in the series but it is absolutely beautiful. This one is not spice heavy because these boys have a lot of healing to do before they get there.

I absolutely love the friendship Jules and Eli have. As soon as they need each other they are there. When a baby shows up on the frat house steps their relationship really shines. Eli has no clue what to do but Jules has younger siblings and does.

The really great part of this book is how the entire house shows up. We've always gotten the found family vibes but this book really puts that into perspective.

This book touches on two very serious situations that are often swept under a rug or never reported. Avery dies an amazing job at showing all the sides of both situations.

"Being a man doesn't make your consent automatic, and dating someone doesn't give them the right to your body."

Killian is amazing in this book. He is quick to handle situations that come up. He is happy to use his families name and money to protect his family. We have seen some of what he does but this one really relied on his name and money to ensure Jules, Eli and Mila were safe and cared for. Killian with baby Mila though will melt your heart.

Watching Eli and Jules piece their friendship back together and realize they were always meant to be more was so rewarding. Their gradual move from friends to more is so tender. Their first times together were everything their hearts and bodies needed. It was perfect.

"Your daughter arrived and the whole house got drafted into a duck cult, but life's weird."

That birthday party at the end though is absolutely EVERYTHING!!!! It shows how far these guys would go to make a frat house a safe place for a toddler. It shows how close these guys are too.

I've loved every book in this series and this one was no exception. It was different but everyone's journey has been different. Seeing them support each other is everything. I also loved Avery connecting Dirty Hit.
