The Clifford Brothers #2

Bending His Rules

I run a global security company with my brothers and negotiate high-stakes deals without breaking a sweat.
But my daughter deciding she suddenly hates every outfit in her closet five minutes before school? That brings me to my knees every time.
Honestly, being a CEO is easier than being a single dad.
That’s why I have rules. Routines. Structure. My life runs a whole lot smoother when everything stays organized and under control.
Then my maintenance company bails on me again, and my house descends into complete chaos. Hiring help goes from unnecessary to essential.
Which is how Melody crashes into my carefully ordered life.
Suddenly, my daughter wants to cook with Melody every evening and runs to her for advice about dresses and hair clips. And I can’t stop thinking about the beautiful woman dancing through my kitchen like she already belongs in our lives.

She makes me want things I stopped believing I deserved a long time ago.

But after losing my wife, I swore I’d never give anyone the power to destroy me again.
Because if I let Melody become part of our lives, losing her would hurt not only me—but my daughter too.
The problem is, every time Melody smiles at me, I want to bend every rule I’ve spent years living by.

oooooo this was so fun and hot. who doesn't love a daddyyyyyyy???!! This is book 2 in the Clifford Brother series that follows Heath who is a a single dad and needs someone to help run his household because he just can't. And things are running out of control. In comes Melody who is a beautiful, young, determined woman and who absolutely has got what it takes to get his life in balance. He wasn't expecting to feel such an attraction pull between them or to feel a certain type of way when Melody interacts with his daughter. And its the cutest freaking thing ever if I say so myself!! He doesn't do the dating thing but things change when you find the right woman amiright ;) I love the found family trope especially when there is a little kid involved, and the cute moments that happen between them.

HELLO SHOWER MOMENT!! My favorite microtrope??? idk if you would call it that but whatever

type: audio (Jason clarke & Mollie stark)

tropes:
grumpy x sunshine
widowed hero
found family
he falls first
age gap
single dad
billionaire

The second book in the Clifford Brothers series and it was just so good.

Melody, graduated from university almost a year ago, but has been struggling to find a good job in her field. All her applications are getting rejected and she's honestly just losing hope. And working nights as a bartender to have a roof over her head & food, is sufficient but she needs more stability.

Heath, he is co-owner alongside his brothers of their security company and he also is a single dad to a nine year old, who in his eyes is just growing up way to fast. One of the things he values most is spending time with his kid, and he doesn't have the energy to keep on dealing with the little things because his cleaning agency is always letting him down. So his last hope is hiring a house manager.

Heath and Melody's book was filled with so much of banter, laughter, and love. The siblings were meddlesome in the best way. But for me I absolutely loved Heath's love for his daughter, it was just written so beautifully 🩷 and Melody's relationship with Evie 💕

Can't wait for Cameron's book next...I have a feeling this Clifford Brother is going to fall the hardest?!

I'm not a fan of dual narration so with that being said, I utterly enjoyed this one. It took me a minute to get used to it, but once I did I was all in.

Mollie Stark, really embodied Melody's character to perfection. From her emotions to all round positiveness, regardless of what she was going through but especially her sad moments. And going from a lighter to deeper voice to potray the male characters was done so well.

Jason Clarke, has always does a fantastic narration. He 100% embodied Heaths character. From his deep, almost gravelly tone to a lighter and smoother voice for the female characters. So good!

Melt my heart! Bending His Rules by Layla Hagen was a spicy single dad romance that simply made my heart giddy with delight. I couldn’t get enough of Melody and Heath’s grumpy sunshine opposites attract chemistry that made these two so easy to love. This is book two in Hagen’s Clifford Brothers series, but it can be read as a stand alone.

Mollie Stark and Jason Clarke perform this audiobook in dual narration. These two were amazing in dual, both delivering an immersive narrative voice and varying their side characters. Mollie’s light, upbeat tone conveyed Melody’s sunshiny, passionate and dedicated spirit. Jason’s deep, rumbly timbre embodied Heath’s conflicted and charismatic lover appeal that ultimately made this man irresistible. Both narrators created a slow burning steamy pull between Melody and Heath that simply had me grinning and blushing.

Overall, I loved this book. If you are a fan of a boss-employee romance with a hot broody single dad, a devoted hardworking household manager, an adorable sassy nine year old daughter, new job opportunities, close proximity, brotherly support, red roses gesture, shower peeking, kitchen counter spice, jealous landlords, spa dates, meeting the parents, intimate conversations, unexpected accidents, love declarations, and a HEA that is worth bending the rules for, then you will love Melody and Heath’s story. I always look forward to more from Layla Hagen.

Heath is a single dad to his 9-year-old daughter, and watching Melody come into their lives was seriously the sweetest thing. His daughter immediately connected with Melody, and I absolutely loved their relationship. 🥹

Heath is used to having everything organized and under control, but Melody completely throws him off his game. Watching him slowly let his walls down and realize he could actually want more for himself again had me in my feels.

And the chemistry between Heath and Melody? SO good. ❤️

The audio was also fantastic! Jason Clarke and Mollie Stark did such an amazing job bringing Heath and Melody to life, and I loved listening to their story.

This was sweet, emotional, and had ALL the feels. I loved it. 🥹❤️

I love a good grumpy MMC like Heath and a sunshiney FMC like Melody. You also get an 8 year age gap with a nanny single dad trope in this one. Melody may be younger than I like in my characters, but she was one you cheer for. I liked how she enaged with the other characters in Heath life and didn't stoop low when someone else was being an a--wipe to her. She didn't have to lower herself to get her point across. Heath was a great single dad but his trauma ruled his life. It was nice when he finally lived a little. And the mouth on him. Goodness!

The two narrators were really good. Jason Clarke is always good.

As a single father, Heath feels that life only goes well when things are orderly and safe, so when Melody comes to work for him and sparks fly from the very first interaction, his life may never be the same. So when Melody and his daughter, Evie, have an accident, he feels that the risk is too great and his heart does not matter. Good thing in Layla Hagen's world - love conquers all. With wit, wonderful characters and a story that just flys by this was a great addition to the Clifford Brothers series.

Layla Hagen has done it again! I absolutely LOVED Bending His Rules! It is the second book in her The Clifford Brothers series; Bending His Rules is a wonderful single father/boss-employee/age gap love story. I was hooked from the first few pages, and I loved every moment on every page of Bending His Rules, it filled me with a rollercoaster of emotions, and it was impossible to put down. Layla Hagen definitely did not disappoint her readers with Bending His Rules and has once again delivered an incredible story filled with everything that I love in sizzling romance stories. I have discovered that whatever Layla Hagen writes, I will love to read. Bending His Rules was one of my favorite books that I have read recently. I loved meeting the Clifford family members. Who does not love hot sexy men, who make you swoon, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another, and wonderful characters? Bending His Rules is the love story of Heath Clifford, co-owner and co-CEO of Clifford Security with his brothers, single father of nine-year-old daughter, Evie and Melody Fletcher, recent college graduate. Melody recently graduated from college with a marketing degree specializing in the fashion industry and is not having any success in finding a permanent job. Her landlord, Paris works for Heath as a programmer at Clifford Security. Heath is looking to hire a house manager after his most recent cleaning lady did not show up. The house manager would be responsible for cleaning Heath’s house, preparing dinner, and managing household maintenance and repairs. Paris recommends Melody for the position. Heath and Evie each fall in love with Melody. As Melody and Heath spend time together while she is his house manager, cooking and sharing dinner things quickly change between them. Heath has insecurities and guilt regarding the deaths of his parents in a car accident when he was a child and his wife, Gabby in a helicopter crash eight years ago that he does not want to open up to the possibility of losing someone again. Conversation between Melody and Heath flows so easily, with innuendos and playful banter, and Heath constantly flirting and dirty talking to Melody. I love Melody’s relationships Evie and all the fashion tips that she gives her. I love all the little things that Heath does for Melody, especially the trip to the spa and the amethyst jewelry set he purchases when Melody accidentally texts him a picture of it. I love how Heath tells Melody the reason for the tattoo on his back. The heart-to-heart conversations that take place in Bending His Rules are one of my favorite parts of the book, especially when Heath reveals things to Melody about his childhood that he has usually does not talk to anyone before. Heath and his brothers, Grant and Cameron grew up in the foster care in a group home. As teenagers they were adopted by Sybil and Thomas. The response that Heath gives Melody when she asks if her remembers his parents is truly heartbreaking and truly relatable to me. Heath’s heart-to-heart with Sybil, is another favorite part of the book. Melody reveals to Heath the issues she has been having with her job search, especially since she does not have any relevant job experience. Heath gives her a glowing letter of recommendation and Melody gets a job at Swimming & Other Sports. In spite of her new job, Melody tries and joins Heath and Melody for dinner. One of my favorite parts is how Heath calls her Mel. I love Melody and Heath’s love story, and all the plot twists and surprises that changes things for Heath and Melody, their relationship, and how things quickly heat up. Their relationship is put to the test with the plot twist, but I love everything that Heath does to resolve it, comes to terms with what happened and how they both admit their feeling for each other. I love everything that Heath does for Melody, how he is always supporting her, and complimenting her. Heath and Melody are willing to make changes in their lives to have a life with one another, because of their love for one another. I love the chat stream between Melody and Heath and Heath and his brothers, it is one of my favorite parts of the story. I love the perfect ending of Melody and Heath’s love story, with my favorite part of the story Heath’s proposal to Melody, and the significance of the engagement ring and Evie’s participation in the proposal. Another favorite part of the story is the epilogue that is told from Melody’s perspective, at Christmas, it was truly a perfect moment. I love how it hints about the identity of Cameron’s love story. Layla Hagen always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy men. Not sure how she does it, but Layla Hagen has once again given her readers another amazing book. She has once again proven that she is an amazing storyteller and continues to be one of my favorite authors to read. I really enjoy how she writes her stories in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love knowing what the main characters are thinking and feeling. Bending His Rules is filled with all those elements that I have come to love and expect in a Layla Hagen love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments and the plot twists and surprises that filled this page turner. My favorite moments are the ones that leave me laughing. Layla Hagen creates such wonderful and memorable characters and has once again done this in Bending His Rules. I love Melody and Heath’s story and the descriptions of the Portland setting, the characters, and the family dynamic in Bending His Rules, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoy all the interactions among the Clifford brothers; it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I love Melody’s relationship with Ruby. I highly recommend this sizzling romance. I cannot wait to read Cameron’s book. Highly recommend this incredible love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.

💗 The Rules Never Stood a Chance Against Her 💗
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars | 🌶️🌶️ 2 Chili Peppers

Give me a devoted single dad whose daughter starts falling for the heroine almost as quickly as he does, and I'm basically done for. 🥹 Bending His Rules absolutely melted my heart!

Heath Clifford can run a global security company without breaking a sweat, but raising his nine-year-old daughter Evie while keeping everything else in his life under control is another story. He lives by rules, routines, and structure, so hiring Melody to manage his increasingly chaotic household is supposed to make his life easier. What he definitely didn't plan for was her becoming such a natural part of it.

Melody and Evie's relationship was easily one of my favorite parts. From cooking together to fashion advice, dresses, and all those everyday girl moments, their bond felt so genuine and sweet. Evie absolutely stole my heart, and I loved that Melody never forced herself into their little family. She simply showed up as herself, and before Heath realizes what is happening, she's become someone neither of them wants to imagine their lives without.

And Heath... 🥹 This man got me. Underneath the successful CEO and protective single dad is someone who has experienced so much loss. Losing his parents young and then his wife left him terrified of opening his heart again. It wasn't that Heath didn't want Melody. Their chemistry made THAT pretty obvious. 🔥 He was afraid that loving her meant giving himself, and more importantly Evie, another person they could potentially lose.

I loved watching Melody slowly break through those walls without ever asking Heath to forget the people he had lost. Their quieter conversations gave the romance so much emotional depth, while their flirting, banter, and seriously sizzling chemistry brought plenty of heat. Once Heath started bending those precious rules of his, there really was no going back. 😂❤️

Melody was also so easy to root for. She was struggling to find her footing professionally, but she never stopped working toward the career she wanted. I especially appreciated how supportive Heath was of her dreams. She could love Heath and Evie while still wanting something for herself, and I loved seeing her begin to find where she belonged in every part of her life.

Add in the Clifford brothers, their teasing and support, and all those wonderful family moments, and this gave me exactly the kind of romance I love. There was grief and healing, but also so much warmth, humor, family, swoon, and spice.

Heath thought his rules were protecting his heart, but Melody showed him that loving someone again didn't mean leaving the people he'd lost behind. Sometimes it simply means allowing your heart to grow around everything you've already loved. 🥹

Sweet, sexy, emotional, and full of heart, Bending His Rules was everything I wanted from Heath and Melody's story. But watching the three of them slowly become a little family? That was the part that completely melted me. ❤️

Thank you to Layla Hagen and Wordsmith Publicity for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

There is something about a millionaire single-dad romance that gets my romance taste buds going, but when you combine it with the writing talent of Layla Hagen, you know you’re in for a treat. And Bending His Rules, the next book in The Clifford Brothers series, absolutely delivered!

When widowed dad Heath needs someone to take care of his home, he certainly isn’t expecting Melody. Beautiful, efficient and completely unaware of the effect she is about to have on both him and his daughter.

Melody has been struggling to find her footing a year after graduating with a degree in marketing and fashion, so this job feels like a godsend. But what she doesn’t expect is to fall instantly under the spell of Heath’s adorable nine-year-old daughter, Evie — and watching their bond develop was honestly such a joy.

Beyond the Synopsis…

What I loved most about this story was watching the relationship between Heath and Melody slowly unfold. The chemistry between them is sizzling, but it never overshadows the emotional heart of the story.

Heath has spent eight years living with the loss of his wife, and watching him slowly open his heart and realise that falling in love again doesn’t mean leaving his past behind was beautifully done.

And Evie? Absolutely adorable! Watching her connection with Melody grow added such a warm, heartfelt layer to the story and made the romance between Heath and Melody feel even more special.

Layla Hagen has once again given us that perfect blend of chemistry, family, emotion and swoon, and I was completely invested from beginning to end.

Watching Heath fall in love again after eight years had my heart doing all the things. And that HEA? Chef’s kiss! ❤️

Read it for…

✨ A millionaire single dad
✨ Sizzling chemistry
✨ An adorable nine-year-old matchmaker
✨ A widower finding love again
✨ Found family vibes
✨ Emotional healing
✨ Plenty of swoon
✨ A seriously satisfying HEA

WOB65 VERDICT: 💜💜💜💜💜

Another gorgeous addition to The Clifford Brothers series from Layla Hagen. If millionaire single dads, second-chance-at-love vibes and plenty of chemistry are your romance kryptonite, add this one to your TBR!

You will swoon and fall in love with single dad Heath and his daughter Evie! Add in Melody and you've got the sweetest family! Get ready to fall hard in this one by Layla! 5 Hot Single Dad stars for this one!
Heath has always been guarded. After losing his parents, then his wife, he's super protective of his daughter Evie. So when he starts to feel a tad overwhelmed, with his busy schedule, they suggest he gets a house manager to take over that end of his life to lessen the load. When his employee finds someone for him, Melody, he's taken aback at how beautiful she is, and how natural she is around his daughter. Not only is she amazing at organizing all the things going on around his house, his daughter has also taken her on as her fashion consultant! He can't blur the lines, he can't love and lose again. So how is going to do this? No clue!
Melody worked hard her whole life so she would have little college debt. But now that she is job hunting, they all want someone with experience. Well she was busy working her way through school and missed out on that end! When her landlord approaches her about this job, she jumps at the chance to take it. This will help somewhat get her some type of experience, though not in either of her degrees of marketing or fashion, but it's a paycheck to keep her afloat. She wasn't prepared for the handsome Heath, or his amazing daughter to worm their way into her heart, yet here she is.
When these two cross the line, there is no going back. And let me tell you, you will not want them too either! This was such a well written story, about healing and trusting your heart to love again! Grab this one asap!

Another amazing story from Layla Hagen! She is one of my absolute favorite authors because her stories are always sweet, romantic, sexy, and low-angst. I love her family series; watching the broader family grow and change throughout the books is wonderful. Even though each book focuses on one main couple, you still get to see the rest of the family develop. Ms. Hagen writes incredible characters that truly pull you into their world, allowing you to feel everything they are experiencing.

Heath’s story absolutely broke my heart. He has endured so much loss that he completely locked his heart away. It has been nine years since his wife passed away, and as a busy security company CEO, he has zero interest in dating or sharing his life with anyone. However, his nine-year-old daughter, Evie, needs a mom. You really feel that Evie is craving a female role model in her life. While Heath is an awesome dad, his structured world gets turned upside down when he meets Melody.

Melody is young, graduated from college about a year ago, and has been struggling to find a good job. When she is hired to help manage Heath's chaotic household, her presence changes everything. I loved her enthusiasm and determined attitude; she works hard to remain positive even when life doesn't go her way. Watching her naturally bond with Evie and slowly chip away at Heath's strict rules was incredibly moving.

Bending His Rules
The Clifford Brothers 2
By: Layla Hagen
Narrated by: Jason Clarke, Mollie Stark

How does Layla Hagen do it? Every time she tugs at my heartstrings and keeps captivated as a couple finds their way. This one was so much fun right along with all the feels. Heath has hit a snag. He has hired several people to come into his home to clean but each one failed. When it was suggested to hire a house manager, his employee suggested her tenant. Melody recently finished school and is having difficulty finding employment to keep her afloat. This comes just at the right time. Take care of the house something she is really good at. What she didn't plan on was getting to know his nine year old daughter Evie and being wildly attracted to Heath. Where do we go from here? Glitter hair dye, avoiding their feelings, secret kisses and talking fashion, Hagen took me on a ride of all the feels, all the ups and downs and I can't forget all the sibling banter! It's a feel good story that made me all warm inside.

Jason Clarke and Mollie Stark are the story tellers for this and they must have been in Hagen's head as she wrote the story. Perfectly cast, they bring their talents for voices of all ages and all emotions. Clarke brings Heath in a bit hesitant, but his warmth and passion comes right through. Stark is full of energy and love for her new found family. I loved these two, they were amazing together and made for a fabulous listen.

This was a fun grumpy/sunshine story with the most adorable little girl.

Heath is a wonderful single father and being the part owner of a very successful security company gave him the options of spending as much time as possible with his daughter. But between work and Evie, all the normal household things were becoming too much to handle. When he decided to look for a house manager he never expected to find a beauty like Melody, who he was attracted to from the very beginning.

Melody has graduated and is looking hard for her first career job, but the search isn't going too well. She is finding that working a job to pay the bills vs taking an internship and learning the ropes might be her biggest challenge. Finding a house manager job that gave her a better schedule and hopes to add something more to her existing resume while she continued to look.

Heath and Melody were not looking for anything romantic. But the more time spent in each others company, the way Melody was with his daughter, thought began to wander. Would Heath push aside his strong felt rules after the tragedy that lost him his wife all those years ago? Or will he push her away when he gets scared of loss once more?

Grab your copy and enjoy.

The narrators did a wonderful job of bringing the story to life. Sharing the feeling and emotions of the characters.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and I’m so excited to share my honest review!

Heath may be in charge at work, running a company alongside his brothers, but at home, he runs on structure. His daughter is his entire world, and after losing his wife, he swore he would never let anyone else become part of their lives again. Coming from foster care and experiencing people leaving him time and time again, trusting others doesn’t come easily to Heath. Then Melody comes crashing into his perfectly structured world. What starts as simply finding some help around the house quickly becomes so much more. She somehow brings order and ease to his life, taking care of everything around the house while also becoming someone his daughter, Evie, genuinely connects with. Evie looks to Melody for everything from fashion advice to cooking tips and, most importantly, the kind of female perspective she’s been missing. Watching their relationship grow was such a sweet part of the story.

What you’ll get is some of the best tropes out there besides a single hot dad: Boss/Employee, Single Dad/Nanny, Age Gap. But at the heart of this story is a man who seems to have everything—but is still missing the one thing he hasn't allowed himself to have: love. And Melody may just be the person who shows him that letting someone in doesn’t mean losing everything.

Once again author Layla Hagen delivers a heartwarming, sexy and low angst story with Heath and Melody in Bending His Rules and I loved every minute of it. Add in Evie, his adorable nine year old and I was in heaven. Single dad trope is my favorite and Heath had me swooning at his utter love, devotion and protectiveness for Evie and my heart broke at the circumstances that made him a single dad. He put some rules in place to avoid suffering pain and loss again, but Melody’s positive attitude and her bond with Evie warmed her way into his heart and chipped away at his rules. I loved watching these three enjoy family time with just them as well as with the entire Clifford family. Another wonderful read that I highly recommend and I’m looking forward to the next Clifford brother fall in love.

Audiobook review:

I loved listening to Bending His Rules with narrators Mollie Starks and Jason Clarke bringing Heath and Melody’s story to life. Mollie was able to capture Melody’s upbeat personality to life with her performance and Jason with his gruff voice captured Heath’s grumpiness perfectly while showing Heath’s softer side when it came to his daughter, Evie. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook to experience all the emotions of the characters these narrators were able to convey.

Heath is trying to juggle it all: running a global security company with his brothers, raising his daughter and keeping up with his big house. When yet another cleaning company turns out to be unreliable he decides to hire a house manager. Melody is trying to make end meet while working at a bar and applying to every marketing job she can find to finally put that college degree to use. When her landlord tells her about the job as a house manager she’s instantly interested. Not knowing that not only Heath’s little daughter but also her new boss might just steal her heart.

Bending His Rules is book 2 of the The Clifford Brothers series by Layla Hagen. It’s a standalone in this interconnected series and in my opinion you could read this book first and then the other one in this series without any spoilers.

I always enjoy Layla’s books so much. They are an easy and cozy read and Bending His Rules fit perfectly with this description. It’s a beautiful slow burn romance although there is instant attraction with a heart-melting love story. The dynamic between Heath and Melody but also with Evie was incredible. The story is mostly focused on the love story but I love that we get to know more about Heath’s childhood and teenage years. He’s quite an interesting character. There is also some spice in the story. There is however not really any suspense which honestly makes this book the perfect cozy romance for fall.

OMG I absolutely loved Bending His Rules!! 😍 Layla Hagen seriously got me with this one.

A single dad who lives by rules, routines and control, only to have Melody come crashing into his perfectly organised life and completely turn it upside down?? YES PLEASE. 😂🔥

Watching Melody become such a natural part of his and his daughter’s lives absolutely melted me. The cooking together, the dresses and hair clips, the way his daughter just adored her… my heart could not cope. 🥹❤️ And then there’s him trying desperately to stick to all his precious rules while clearly falling HARDER by the second. Sir, those rules never stood a chance. 😂

I loved the chemistry between them, but I also loved all the emotion underneath it. His fear of loving someone again after losing his wife made my heart hurt, especially because this time he wasn’t only protecting himself, he was protecting his daughter too. 😭

Melody was exactly the chaos his carefully controlled world needed, and I ate up every second of watching her break down those walls and make him want things he’d convinced himself he couldn’t have anymore.

Sweet, emotional, funny, swoony and HOTTT 🥵🔥 I couldn’t put it down. I loved these two together and the little family they created had me in an absolute puddle.

The Clifford brothers are back, and I couldn't wait to get Heath's story! Heath is in need of some help, while Melody is searching for both a job and her dream career. I loved getting to know Heath better and learning more about everything he's been through. The way Layla creates such layered, relatable characters is one of my favourite things about her writing, and Heath's journey was no exception. Melody was an absolute sweetheart, and the relationship she builds with Evie throughout the story was so special and heartwarming to watch. The brotherly banter between the Cliffords had me smiling the whole way through, and every scene with Cam just made me love him even more. I already can't wait for his book! The chemistry between Melody and Heath was undeniable, and I loved how supportive Heath was of her as she chased her dreams. Their relationship felt genuine, tender, and completely believable. The found family element has always been one of the standout aspects of this series, and it shines brighter than ever in this book. Filled with heart, humour, friendship, and romance, this was another fantastic addition to the series, and I loved every minute of it.

⭐️ARC Review⭐️

I love getting to read ARC books, especially Layla's. I've been a fan of her work for ages now, and one of the things that always captivates me is her emphasis on family values and strong family relationships, not to mention her 🌶️ scenes are always on point.

The story of Heath and Melody starts as employer and employee, where no lines were meant to be crossed. But Melody had that natural charm, and what really sealed it for Heath was how she treated his daughter, Evy. I really enjoyed watching these two fall for each other, and the bond Melody built with Evy along the way. Evy lost her mom so young that she barely remembers her, so it's easy to see why having Melody around means so much to her, and the same is true for Heath, even though he tries his best to hide it.

Losing his parents young, and then his wife, isn't something easy to move past. Opening himself up to being vulnerable again, and risking that kind of loss a second time is a lot to process. I loved how deeply this book explored a subject that isn't often talked about; grief and irrational fear are such normal responses after enduring something as traumatic as what Heath went through.

Bending His Rules is widowed, single dad Heath Clifford and Melody the woman who has come into his life to run his out of control household. It’s book two in the Clifford Brother Series and I’m loving everything about this family.
Heath is determined to run his house and look after his daughter himself but he is struggling and that’s when his family step in and tell him to look for a housekeeper come nanny or they will. Melody is the perfect woman to get his house under control and his daughter loves her…..problem is he is feeling an attraction towards her and he is finding it hard to fight it. He wasn’t looking for a relationship or love so what happens when a line is crossed.
I loved everything about this book, I fell hard and fast for Heath, I adored Melody but it was nine year old Evie who stole my heart. I swooned, I smiled and I giggled as I watched this little girl interact with Melody when her dad was trying to run in the opposite direction. These brothers and their partners are becoming one of my favorite families and this book drew me in, didn’t let me go and even when I had read the final line I still wanted more.

I've been a fan of Layla Hagen's work for years now and I'm not sure what it was about this book, but OMG, our boy Heath (the name fits him 100% 🔥) was something else.

Their connection was there from the start. Melody wanted to make their lives easier, and she was just the right woman for the job. The slow burn at the beginning was driving me CRAZY, and when they ignited... holy hell, the smexy times were FIRE. 🔥🔥 (My husband sends his thanks 🤣.)

I loved how she embraced his sweet little girl and how she fit into their lives. And when Heath finally admitted he wanted her, he knew nothing was going to stand in his way... well, nothing except (almost) himself. 😂 Luckily, he got over that pretty quickly and vowed to make her the happiest woman there is.

And honestly? Mission accomplished. Melody got her HEA, Heath got his woman, his little girl got someone who loved her completely... and apparently my husband got something out of this book too. 🤣🔥 So the way I see it - everyone wins. 😂

I LOVED Bending His Rules by Layla Hagen! ❤️
Heath Clifford is handsomely hot, single dad to Evie, and the middle brother. Enter Melody—Heath’s new house manager. My heart hurt for Heath as continues to learn how to navigate life with a young daughter and a heart that wants to re-enter the world of dating. Their journey is emotional, heartfelt, and beautifully written.
I love how this author writes meaningful, sexy, spicy stories with characters who always have each other’s backs. The family dynamic and emotional connection between these two made this one special.
And ladies….The chemistry is HOT, and the spicy scenes are VERY spicy! Especially when you listen to the amazing voices of Jason Clarke and Mollie Stark. Oh wow, do these two bring their “A” game to this audiobook. Jason Clarke just melts me because he has one of the s*xiest voices EVER!! Mollie Stark has a beautiful voice and her performance is just as amazing as her counterpart! These two narrators make a great duo. I truly could hear the passion and emotion they brought to Heath and Melody’s characters.
Definitely a story that pulled at my heartstrings while keeping me turning the pages. ❤️

The Clifford Brothers #2

Heath Clifford is co-CEO of Clifford Security, a business he runs with his two brothers. He has zero interest in dating. He lost his parents as a kid, then his wife nine years ago in an accident and is raising their nine year old daughter Evie by himself. He likes order, structure and of course routines. As a single dad he has a lot on his plate and needs help running his household as all his maintenance companies keep bailing on him.

Melody Fletcher graduated college over a year ago but hasn't found a job in her field. She's been working in a bar but when the opportunity of managing Heath's household comes up she takes it. She's enjoying the work and loves Evie and the time they spend together.

Now Heath's house is running smoothly, the sparks are flying and he and Melody are getting closer and she has finally found a job in her field and is leaving even though she hates the idea of not seeing them every day.
Will he finally drop his walls?

4 stars
This is a sweet emotional story of learning to trust again and finding love.

Loved Melody and Heath’s story! I was hooked from the very first few pages and couldn’t put it down. I loved watching Melody slowly break through Heath’s carefully controlled world, especially seeing the relationship she built with his daughter. The chemistry between Melody and Heath was so good, and their story had all the feels!

If you love single-dad romances, strong family dynamics, and a swoony romance that will keep you turning the pages, definitely add this one to your TBR!

Heath Clifford, CEO of Clifford Security, has strict rules for himself which mostly has to do with protecting his young daughter. As a single father, he feels he has to be. Things start to go awry when the landscapers didn’t show up and the maintenance crew was a no show, to just trying to keep his head above water with household chores. It was suggested he needed a house manager to run the household for him so he could concentrate on work and his daughter. In walks Melody, who desperately needed a job, as she was struggling to find one in her field of marketing and fashion. Immediately his daughter fell in love with her. She loved that Melody was always helping her with fashion ideas and wanted to cook with Melody. Heath realized he might be falling for Melody but had to deal with his past, as well. I won’t give this away, but know that Ms. Hagen is a great storyteller and Heath did way more than bend!

I am always a sucker for a single dad romance, throw in found family vibes, close proximity, love after loss, sizzling chemistry and I am hooked. Melody and Heath’s story is full of raw emotion and tender moments.

Heath has been a widow for eight years and watching him slowing open up to Melody was beautiful. Explaining the meaning of his tattoos and growing up in foster care had me a mess. But it had him realizing that it is ok to move on and doesn’t mean he is leaving the past behind.

Melody was amazing. She may have been struggling to find solid ground for a little bit but once she started working for Heath, everything started to fall into place. The connection she formed with his daughter was beautiful and heartwarming.

Melody and Heath together was perfection. The attraction, the witty banter and the off the charts chemistry…I couldn’t get enough of them.
