When LAPD Detective Gabi Longoria comes home one night, she discovers that her husband Nick has been brutally killed. Next to his body is a note that says: “Rats always get what they deserve.”
Her captain refuses to let her join the investigation to find Nick’s killer and instead puts her on paid leave, leaving Gabi no choice but to do her own. Convinced the reason for her husband’s murder can be found at the New York health club where she first met him, she heads to NYC and goes undercover as a trainer again—but this time around, she’s on her own.
Gabi is determined to learn the truth behind her husband’s murder—even if it means she herself will die in the process.
NOTE: GIRL UNDERCOVER is a twelve-part crime drama serial with some strong language.
Was disappointed with this book. It rambled on and on about theories and trying to solve murders that didn't have anything to do with the lead character. Also didn't like the ending. You have to read the other books to see what happened. Also so!e grammatical errors as well. I do not recommend this book unless you plan to read the whole series.
Excellent story with meeting Gabi and her need to find the people responsible for her husband Nick's death. Will continue reading this terrific author.

Wonderful characters, good twist at the end as to who is the real bad guy. Loved the whole series. My kind of kick-ass female lead that makes me happy to be a woman and not ashamed to be a woman who likes men but can still take care of herself in this modern age of shaming people who hold to traditional roles of sexual orientation. Can't say enough how I admire Gabi's initiative and go-get-'em attitude when it comes to making sure things get done.
Girl Undercover is the start of Gabi's post Nick life . After finding her husband brutally murdered and being side lined from the investigation by her boss Gabi decides to take matters of revenge into her own hands. She sets off for the place she believes will be the center of the investigation. Throughout this first episode you see Gabi coping and making discoveries about the place she once worked. All leading to a pretty big ending and leaving you wanting to read the next episode! I recommend Girl Undercover: Mystery Man, you won't be disappointed! I cannot wait for the next book!
Threats at random intervals, people walking up buildings without visible help, two opposite stories about a killing. A page turner keeping my kindle right beside me until was read. A cliff hanger at the end I will have to read the rest of the series. Julia Derek writes well constructed exciting stories. I received this free and am writing a review.
I was so disappointed with this. the idea was great, and sounded good, but the writing wasn't good. Too much telling instead of showing, repeating her thoughts over and over, as if we didn't get it the first time. And the character just annoyed me. Humility is not a concept she's heard of. Don't tell us you're amazing, show us! Anyway, didn't finish, as life is too short.
Gabi's husband is murdered and she starts of determined to find his killer. Her superiors refuse to allow her to join the investigation so she goes solo. She undertakes several disguises to accomplish her goal. While attempting to do this her main disguise is a red headed trainer in a gym where she worked previously undercover? It is under new ownership though with little of the old employees still working there. Eventually the brutal death of her husband takes a back seat. So far back it barely gets a mention for most of the book. Her main goal becomes finding a serial rapist/murderer with the help of a handsome stranger called Ian which she suspects is said person.
Ok this book started of really strong and just well dwindled from there. Ending gave no real closure. Yes I understand it's a series of books but it ends so abrupt. I stuck it out hoping it would get back into the main reason of the story which seemed to be the death of her husband but it didnt really. Too much other side stuff going on and dare I say too much gym time and not enough investigation time.
Very good story in theory but very poorly written. It was like a soap opera that never got to the end, the story just drags on and on and left you hanging but not in a good way and definitely not wanting to continue reading. I'm giving it 2 starts instead of 1 because again, I thought the storyline was going to be good & it could have been if it was written better.
I really wanted to like this book, it had such potential but so many parts seemed to get lost. The beginning starts with the murder of her husband and drifted so far from that. I had a hard time connecting or feeling anything for any of the characters, the attempt at romance between her and this mystery man felt so wrong as she was searching for her newly murdered husbands killer.

This book was a fairly good read but I'm not into what I would call "science fiction" type of reading; alien types of subversive people that are planning on taking over society as we know it. However, some readers would like it.
The book is well written and a mystery for sure. However , It just moved along too slowly for me keep my interest and at 55% I decided to stop reading it .
Flows well, enough twists and turns to make me keep.wanting to.find out what's next. Characters are well developed and easy to like or hate, as it should be.
'Mystery Man' is a good start to the 'Girl Undercover' series. The storyline is pretty intriguing. The way it plays out is full of mystery, suspense and some good characters. Gabi makes a good lead. I like her strong will. And then throw Ian in and you get quite the the mystery. I look forward to reading more.
Not a fan of this one. Luckily it was a free download, but it ended basically mid paragraph. The main character seems all over the place and hard to believe a police officer can go off to another city when she’s supposed to be on bereavement leave and start a new job and not be found out. Also the writing of the actual story is really not well done
Now this was a good story. I can't wait to read more. Great storyline, great theme great detective work. Just the right amount of twist and surprises. If you love mysteries, thrillers and, our great detective stories this is for you.
Returning to where she first met her husband, Gabi must assume a different identity and mingle with her former coworkers without being identified. The most unlikely person does identify her, but is he a psychopath or an ally?
It won’t let me purchase the test to see how it ends!!! My Kindle app on my IPhone won’t do it!! Please let me know the titles so I can IBook them!! What an interesting read. I hope it ends like I think it will!!!
Left you feeling like you read chapters of a book but not the complete book - need to buy parts 4 & 5. Then will it be more "parts" before it has a conclusion?
This is more of a continuing story. This book was the introduction to the series, first of 4. A fast read with little excitement and more investigative work.
