Surviving Puberty: Erecting Your Future and Making the Breast Decisions

Rate this book
It’s rare that a person comes into contact with their former self, real time, as they are going through the difficult years of puberty. The self that was struggling to be adult while dealing with the complex emotions and situations of growing up -- all while being hammered on a daily basis by life’s most confusing questions.

Puberty is rough. But author Chad Bishoff shares his own journey through his raw, sometimes hilarious -- and often surprisingly profound -- journal entries as a preteen boy. Surviving Puberty explores Bishoff’s shocking realization of how those thoughts and experiences shaped and changed him as an adult.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

As I have an 8th grade son, I thought that this book was a scary view into what my son may be going through. I mean that in a coddling mother way. Just reading it and not thinking about my son, I thought it was quite funny. The ups and downs in younger Chad's journal entries and the extremes of things is so child-like. I can see why his mother made her comment of saying it is honest and revealing, there is nothing left out. Very quick read but entertaining!

This is a clever book . A disturbing, hilarious & accurate description of a pubescent boy growing up in the 90s. I found myself really rooting for the young Chad as he emotionally navigates his way through the common male adolescent experience. Using his real journals, he leaves nothing out.
Bishoff weaves a story that has adult Chad chapters intertwined. The Chads of the past and the present both seek an understanding of themselves. It's interesting to read this kind of documentation, I wonder how many other boys in the 90's kept a journal this detailed?

GOODREADS GIVEAWAY:
I finished this book in one day (mainly because it's a heatwave right now and it's just too hot to do anything but lie down and read). It reads really fast and it's an interesting read although I remember puberty differently. For example I didn't curse that mutch and I was never that sex-crazed. But I guess puberty is different for everyone.
